      Why not the 6ah max output?
      While using the new ridgid tools every day at work, i definitely notice a power difference between the 6ah and 4ah despite the two batteries being identified inside and out.

    Ive been using the ridgid impacts in the real world for years at transmission shop daily and beat the crap out of them, theyve been great!! I own all the milwaukee line in the impacts and ratchets as well and the funny thing is the mid octane 1/2 gun actually outperforms new milwaukee 1/2 or 3/8 in bolt removal speed even though its listed lower power on here. Ridgid has a different hammer mechanism it seems and they can snap the bolts loose faster. I got rid of new 1/2 milwaukee mid torque cuz it was disappointing and slow. 90% of time octane 1/2 can take a whole car apart, otherwise I grabbed milwaukee high torque to finish the job. Ever since the high torque ridgid 1/2 came out and the new impact driver i believe the Ridgid line is the best out there. The power, the light weight and the warranty cant be beat. My milwaukees have parked themselves in a drawer

      So they don't outperform and take sales away from their more expensive tools. Milwaukee tools and packouts are marked up 100s of %. We know this when they go on sale and because less than 2 years ago most of the packouts cost $20-40 less per piece.

      Just for reference, the milwaukee gen 3 impact, drill, 2 x 5ah batteries, 1 x 2ah 12v battery, charger kit costs over $1300 AUD at the moment. I bought this exact kit 18 months ago for $650 AUD. That price difference isn't covid, it isn't sales or discounts, it's just TTI being dicks.
      Makita have their 40v impact, drill, 2 x 4ah batteries, charger for $1000 AUD. And it comes in a systainer (cheap plastic box is always better than a blow moulded case)
      That price difference (between makita and milwaukee) is almost 2 days work for a skilled worker on minimum wage.

    Great test/great channel. How about testing these in the different modes tightening fasteners? Many times we will snug or pre-tighten fasteners using an impact and then finish with a torque wrench. If we have a ballpark max torque for each mode this would make that process easier. Also, to be honest most home mechanics don't have a 250ft-lb torque wrench much less something higher so they (we=me) will likely use an impact and guess at the final torque. A hitch ball requiring 450ft-lb would be an example. I would say most have a 0-150ft-lb. Thanks! David

I have several adapters and they typically only have two electrical connections, which makes me think high output batteries, which many tools rely on to perform at their best, may not provide the max output compared to using a batteey directly with the tool. I.e. Using a Dewalt powerstack battery-> adapter-> Ryobi or Rdigid, and testing performance(then compare to existing torque numbers from your previous tests).

      @@mike_t_007 i’ve only used it once so far, but it worked great.
      I used it to help a friend change the tire on his truck. His lugs are torqued to 140 foot pounds. Even with the slight loss of torque from the adapter on my flip socket, it had no problem breaking them free.

      @@mike_t_007 I don’t think I will ever really need a high torque impact wrench.
      Honestly, if I hadn’t been able to get the deal I got on the mid torque, I probably would’ve gotten the Kobalt, the Hercules, or the Dewalt.
      The new Dewalt is an absolute beast, and I already have a couple of Dewalt power tools.
      By the way, I paid $169 for my Ridgid impact with the battery, a charger and a bag.

    I have an interesting idea. Try testing the differences in torque to yield with an impact vs by hand. See if you can see the difference between the two. I know you should do this by hand but I can’t find any real information on why you can not use a impact and a paint mark.

    Has anyone looked at the Bosch GDS18V221N ? It’s a nicely sized mid torque that feels great in the hand. Lowes currently has a deal, buy the tool, get a 4.0ah battery and charger for free. Bosch doesn’t give much in terms of torque spec on it, just 221 ftlbs. Doesn’t say if that is tightening, max, breakaway, etc.

      Me too. Doesn't help that the ridgid power tools promotions for upcoming tools website lists the 6ah as "coming soon" still. They don't keep it up to date. That and they dont even have the 1250 in lb high torque hammer drill on the 2022 list.
      Wish they'd keep up with things so i didn't have to walk in to home depot every single day asking if they're in yet.

    I know these are measured relative to a IR 231H, but how would they compare to a torque wrench? If you torque the bolt with a torque wrench set to 250ft/lb how many ft/lb does the gauge show when calibrated to the 231H? It would be interesting to see how the impact wrenches perform when the gauge is calibrated with a torque wrench. To be as accurate as possible I think it would need to be torqued to approximately the expected torque of the impact wrenches being tested. i.e. if you calibrate the dyno by torquing the bolt to 400ft/lb and then measure an impact wrench that only shows 150ft/lb it wouldn't be as accurate as if you calibrated it by torquing it to 150ft/lb because of any nonlinearities in the torque/force curve of the bolt and nut. It would also be interesting to see how different size nuts and bolts change things when calibrated the same way.

    I have noticed with the Octane Midtorque despite its lower tested output that in daily use it does as well if not better than some others in its class when removing fasteners. With a higher ipm it seems to heat fasteners crazy fast which I believes helps it a good bit.
    The largest fasteners I have used it with successfully with were 1-1/8 headed 5/8 threaded lug nuts. This is about the peak of what it can do and usually grab the hi torque.

    Do you think it would be possible to test the regular RIDGID batteries vs the Max Output on the impact wrenches??? I can't decide whether or not the Max output batteries would be a worthy upgrade like the octane batteries were on the octane lineup 🤔!!! Love the vids and thank you for doing these tests!!!

    • @mattek519
      @mattek519 2 года назад +1

      100% they are an upgrade. If you look at the new tools, they have extra side contacts in the battery terminal that match up with the side contacts on the 4ah battery. The old batteries lack these battery leads.

      @@mattek519 Hey thanks for the reply! I am aware that the new tools have the extra contact points and so do the new batteries( as I have the old ridgid batteries from 10 years ago), but I was curious as to how big a power difference there is between the new regular Ridgid batteries vs the Max output as I recently bought the R86011B 1/2'' impact (formerly the Octane 1/2'') and am curious as to how it will perform with both batteries. :))

    • @mattek519
      @mattek519 2 года назад +1

      @@ryanchu2037 well, to be honest, the new brushless impact does not have the corresponding battery contacts to match the max output batteries, even though it's advertised as a tool that will benefit from using max output batteries. And as far as i know all of the octane batteries actually have the same side contacts as the maxoutput ones. That said, uf your octane impact battery terminal has the matching side contacts for the octane/MO batteries, i think your impact may be able to dish out more beans than the newer impact can.
