The amazing Ridgid octane 1/2" impact wrench testing

  • This tool is the real deal. I used to work in a tire shop with air impacts and this gun tears them off faster with less effort from looking for hoses and dragging them around a shop. Not as powerful as the 2 top tier Milwaukee, but more versatile in many ways. It's more compact, the lighting is bar none, and the auto mode takes away error of over tightening. Get you a good set of torque sticks and you have a tire changing, suspension removing, and everything else that's not in too tight of space or too small of fastener, do it all machine. Virtually no fatigue to the hand and light than the mid and high torque Milwaukee. If this is the only ridgid tool you ever get, you won't be disappointed.

    Hey man a pro tip for the future. Don’t use chrome sockets when impacting. They can break and shear into a lot of little pieces that could go in your eyes if not protected. Use the black/grey impact sockets. They crack when taken to failure rather than shear/shatter

    • @InNerdimensional
      @InNerdimensional  4 года назад +2

      Oh I know, I've been trying to break these damn Chinese craftsmen sockets for a while. Only broke the 17mm once with over 600ftlbs or more. Worked at multiple tire shops. And I always wear safety glasses. Just out of habit. And got my osha 10 a while back. I personally think they lie about the impact rated stuff, because I've broken impact rated hex bits and not broken normal bits with the same impact. If it breaks, it breaks. Btw, I did find my impact sockets for my other test video. The softer metal doesn't make as much torque

    • @InNerdimensional

    Over on the "Tool Review Zone" channel there's a comparison of this with a DeWalt impact wrench, and he notices it actually drives lags a little slower with the 3ah octane battery compared to the 4ah. The 3ah only has one row of cells and probably fewer peak continuous amps than the 4ah which has two rows. Each parallel set adds more current. Also noticed that on the Workshop Addict channel, they recommend this unit and say it's equivalent to the Milwaukee mid-torque. So that sold me - this unit is not lacking in power.

    • @InNerdimensional
      @InNerdimensional  4 года назад +1

      The warranty and the price got me, I picked it up on sale, $149 with 2 3ah batteries and a charger. The batteries drain very quickly on some tools. The 4ah lasts almost twice as long on some tools. Jobmax, sanders, recip, drills, lights, router, ect... eat these 3ah like nothing. I came from c3 craftsman tools and it's a major step up. Milwaukee almost got my $, but they could not match price or warranty. And it would have been a 6 1/2 circular saw. I accidentally got the gen5x circ saw... that sux but it came with the octane jigsaw that is better than the Milwaukee. So I'll pick it up some other time

      @@InNerdimensional That was a really great deal! I wish they still had the 3ah/6ah starter kits available. Even the two 3ah kits have been gone for a few months now. In another youtube channel, someone stated that they're going to release a new charger soon and might be dropping the bluetooth functionality on the batteries because too many people are locking them up and returning them! Unfortunately after waiting for a few months for a deal with a starter kit, I couldn't wait any longer, so I just got one from DTO on their 20% off Labor Day sale, but had to buy a cheapie charger from ebay to get me going. I had no other Ridgid tools previously, just Ryobi. The Ryobi (p261) impact wrench is a brushed tool that has less than half the power, otherwise I would've stayed in that platform. Anw, thanks for taking the time to make and upload these videos - seeing real world usage on old/rusty stuff is in a way more valuable (due to being realistic) than watching someone drill in some big lag bolts or take off some low torque lug nuts.

      @@InNerdimensional Well, personally I mostly use tools for auto DIY work, so anything that's doing something in that area is interesting to me. For anyone that's ever struggled to break/loosen a really stuck nut it's just amazing seeing these things work. Anything where the quick spinning torque will remove a nut, where you'd have to manually hold something in place is also impressive -- removing a lawn mower blade nut, water heater anode (some people strap them in place to prevent the heater from moving, WAY harder than just using an impact like this!), or the top nut from a strut assembly. In general I think any kind of everyday or DIY use case where a tool is needed or would be greatly helped by a power tool, is fertile ground for a youtube video. There are tons of videos already, but often just showing your own specific real life situation is still helpful - I know seeing videos on my exact car/generational variant is even more helpful than seeing the same job performed on a totally different car, for instance. Cheers!
