I feel finding clever storage solutions is a never ending story... Who's with me on that one ?
The only thing I cant find is how to store away tools when living in an appartment 😭
TBH, the usual answer isn't to have better storage solutions, it's to have less stuff. Occasionally, you do need clever, but that's usually because you're trying to use a weird space.
Use a command stick and hang Wicker baskets 🧺 on the walls and you have a little cubby
These kids. They keep growing... then you have more of them... then they want more toys... it’s just crazy. 😂❤️
Kudos for the Video! Forgive me for butting in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you considered - Mahorrla Control Clutter Method (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is a good one of a kind product for decluttering your home minus the normal expense. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my good mate called Gray finally got great success with it.
Duuuude when you talked about how husbands never know where anything goes even though you’ve lived in the house the same amount of time. Felt that ✌️😂
Allison J right??? Like "we moved in here together. We both work from home. Is my uterus a tracking device? Is that why I know and my husband doesn't?"
My fiance and I are pretty much on top of the stuff we each use the most but that is about it. If I ever need the packing tape, I have to ask him where it is even though it is always in the same spot. He is the same way with things like scissors and wrapping tape. It's like we ignore each others stuff until we need it. Lol.
It’s all about the brain: see stanmed.stanford.edu/2017spring/how-mens-and-womens-brains-are-different.html
My husband still asks me where his tools are after he used them. And, I was perplexed that I know where they are!
Haha so true, but he’s learning. It’s because I’m the one who does all the cleaning,& taking care of everything, though we do take turns cooking dinner. I work just not as much right now because I’m trying to study for my license and go back to college. I was working almost everyday but they were only giving me 3&4 hour shifts,so I went to 1 and was getting 7-8 🙂 way better. I added in two more for my availability but if they pull the short shifts again I’m going down to 2 & then 1 if I get two four hours instead of one eight.
I get x 3 daughters age 20s and hubby 50 yr old, contstantly yelling where his stuff is..like put a gun to your head...😵
I think the point that everything needs to have a place cannot be overstated. That’s the fundamental key to keeping order anywhere!
My problem is the cables and plugs 😂
Katherine Canon Label them, what type of plug, + what it can be used for, esp if multifunctional. Don't ever pull from the end, where it connects. In time the cable can split, exposing the wires.
@@viviennejordan215 I keep mine in zip lock bags with an index card that reads what type of cable it is or what device it's for. The bags then go into a box with other cables. The end result is that I know very quickly where the cables themselves go. Fortunately, the variation in cables seems to be subsiding as most of them are now some sort of USB cable that are usually interchangeable with others of the same variety.
I also make a point of labeling power bricks that don't come with clear labeling about what device they go with. It can be a royal pain dealing with them when the power brick and the device get separated. But, you can usually get a generic power supply, provided it fits, has the right polarity and has the right voltage/amperage to match the device. And that's usually labeled on both the power supply and the device.
In that same vein, I have to take issue with builders who don't include necessities in a home/apartment structure: coat closet, linen closet, drawers in a kitchen or bathroom, food pantry, outlets in all rooms and hallways, ....and a multitude of other things. Don't laugh, as someone who has rented all over the USA, major things get skipped in apartments when the owners never have to live in them!
B I know, it's a crying shame
I use to keep a tiny blow up baby pool under my toddler's crib, filled with toys- It comes in handy to easily pull it out and set your little one inside the soft pool to play with their toys!
What a SMART, CLEVER person you are!!!
People tend to forget vertical space. Love the shelf you put up near the bathroom ceiling!
Another tip I’ve learned in trying to maximize our 1400 sq ft house is using back-of-the-door shoe holders, the pocket ones. I have them on multiple doors-to hold medicines, gloves, scarves, and hats, and on the back of my pantry door to hold lots of extra items. They’re a life saver! This was a great video, and I think you’re my new hero! (Most RUclipsrs have big, perfect houses. 😒) More like this would be great!
A hack to putting away winter blankets when not in use; Fold them between your box spring and your mattress. Might fold them to give one a slight height on the pillow area. They won't get musty and put a couple of fabric softener sheets so they smell nice.
I have a tiny bathroom so I utilized the back of the door for storage. I got one of those shoe organizers that hang on door and store soap, toothpaste, etc. in all the little pouches.
*I like the little notes included in the videos, especially when there's a hint of sarcasm in them lol.*
Being organized in the kitchen is key to saving money on groceries. By knowing exactly what you have you can then shop around it to save money. My kitchen has a few cabinets that are way up high especially over the refrigerator. My husband made me a stepstool that actually is the same color as my kitchen cabinets. I love it and use it every day. I really enjoyed your video.
Debby, give your thoughtful hubby a virtual hug for me.
I am tall and usually can technically reach those spaces & usually have stuff on the fridge in way of easy access, so what I do is keep rarely used items there like box of misc. light bulbs, vases and any other extra and rarely used items which are however still of occasional need to me, worth keeping. :)
As I am a student, it is crucial to have a clean space so that I can improve my study efficiency. I had already labeled different kinds of storage areas before I watched this video.
These tips are useful for organizing my messy bedroom. Thanks for sharing!
What I've discovered about that specific label maker (I have that one) when the printing starts to be not-so-clear, it's because it needs new batteries. I was so stressed because I couldn't figure out why it was not printing so clearly, and then just gave up and replaced the batteries and then it printed beautifully!
Literally trying to reorganize the storage space in my small house today. Took a break to feed the baby and put on RUclips. Perfect timing! Great ideas, I never thought about shelves up high before!
We donate toys once a year to Goodwill or salvation army, my kids go through all their toys and we make a pile for keep toys, broken toys and donation toys. They love doing this and they are always proud to say mom these toys are going to go to a child that didn't have this before. Great video definitely going to try some of your tips to get my small apartment less cluttered
Same! My family did a yearly purge before school started which turned me into a big believer in keeping a donation box at all times.
Just want to share a quick hack (if you can call it that) on an alternative to label makers (if you're unsure to buy or not)
Use masking tape or paper tape for labeling stuff. So long as the tape is sticky enough to stick on to things but not too sticky that it's difficult to rip it off. And you can just write what you want to label on them with marker pens 👍👍👍
You can use blue painter's tape. I labeled everything fridge, stove, microwave, and everything else I could put a tape on but I was doing it to get my children familiar with word, letters to get them reading.
@@crybebebunny awesome.... I'm an avid belolievervin education. Any time the govt/congress have to cut spending in the so called budget, well, it's been education. No wonder our children are in need pf an education...... Go back and see how many times education has taken the hit and our children and us now have been hurt and deprived of a good education.
@@animalsareloveandhappiness4505 yes but they can't budget my LOVE. We as parents need to understand that We are our children's first Teachers and educate our children both in fundamentals and valuables. Let the "school teachers " strain if, we happen to fall behind. Let's get knowledge and wisdom to educate ourselves and our families.
True practical ang easy to removed
Great idea, especially if I’m not 100% that’s going to be the permanent home.
I've had my label maker for about 10 years and I LOVE it! I used it to label all the switches in my house so guests (and children) aren't stuck turning every switch trying to figure out how to turn a ceiling fan off.
I did the same thing. It’s a lifesaver.
I've had a label maker for years and I've literally never used it. And I used to be an elementary school teacher. 😂😂
These are fantastic tips, especially Clean As You Go. That one helps me from being overwhelmed.
Try over the toilet storage!! It added so much space for me, its like a stand with shelves that was super simple to assemble
"You've lived here as long as I have and I don't know how you still don't know where everything goes." LOL!! spot on.
I for legit KNOW where everything in my house should go/be! The others never put stuff back so low and behold, the things aren't there when I need them! 😁
Yes, and I was that kid 😁😁, so, I get it on both sides. It seems to me that the only way 2 really break people of that is to have them have to find it when it's needed ( by whomever ) when they'd rather be doing something else (or getting on with the project using it ). If several people and who knows who used it last, may have to be a rule that everyone who isn't in the middle of something urgent had to drop it and help look, every time. Share the pain, share the motivation to put stuff back !
The vacuum sealed bags for clothes and bedding are awesome! It makes storing things you aren’t currently using so much easier! Great space savers!
I just started watching your videos! I'm so glad I found them. Not only do I appreciate what you're showing, the tips and the help. I love your personality, you're real, funny and just refreshing and not putting on a "persona" for the camera! Yeah!! A chick I can watch! Lol
I love utilizing the stairwell to the basement! You could even add some shelves on the header to store things.
I live in a small apartment and there was no place for me to hang coats up not even space for a coat rack near the entryway. So I put an over the door hook rack. It works perfectly for hanging up coats.
Lol!! Naptime coffee😆 I never thought to call it that and I have it every single day!!! Great ideas! There are 6 of us in a less than 1000 sq ft space
I’m a new subscriber as of when you said “how to organize a small home”. Moving into a a townhouse forever home soon! So thankful you exist.
I have just started the task of really organizing my small home and ur videos are so helpful:). Thank you for your help and inspiration! I do think you are a queen of organization:)💗❤️
I’ve moved 28 times in 65 years. My #1 piece of advice is “purge purge purge”.
My small space hack is already opt for rectangle storage. Everything fits together so nicely and is much easier to utilize the most space
Brought back old memories, the area by the back stairs my Mom had heavy duty hooks in the wall so each kid had there own space.
diane brenna it doesn't take much to be organized, little, but Regular. Soon gets done.
Love the tip graphics that pop up!
I love the vacuum space saving bags for extra sheets and blankets! They shrink down so small and I am able to store them under the bed!
So, true on the needing labels so the husband can find things...he never knows where things go! :P
It’s kitchen cabinets that drive me nuts because I try to keep everything in order (too many Chinese soup containers) and he just sticks crap anywhere! He’s trying to help me... but just don’t! He decided to clean out my spices one time and I seriously thought I might need to call 911 to protect him! Hahaha! He’s never touched them again! 🤪
Yes. I prefer them always asking me. Than trying to figure out how they think it's organize when they can't find something and I have no clue how they put them "away".
It sounds like your organizational system that isn't working. If it were working, then he wouldn't need to ask, he'd know where and there would be space.
Chris L trust... he doesn’t care! Haha! After 25 yrs we just go with the flow
One of the hardest aspects of keeping a home organized is when others don't want to make the effort. This was a point of constant argument between myself and my former roomate when it came to putting the quilts in the ottoman. Not using it? put it away. But the roomate reasoned that using it once a week for movie night was reason enough to leave it out all other 6 days.
Did they at least fold it????? I’d lose my minddddd
Yes, we all meed to learn to be creative when sharing a space with roommates or spouse etc. , and find creative compromises. Each states their preference, then works to find a compromise each can handle. Maybe even take turns doing it the other's way ( week at a time ?) , if there's no real middle-ground solution. One book which may b an unexpected huge help with this is " The house that cleans itself" . It's super, duper helpful in many ways, one of which being to work with your family and habits as is wise/do-able vrs. always trying to change them. For example, they just never used the other door/area which had the coat etc. storage and the area by door they did use, was always a mess. Rethinking trying to get them all to finally adopt a habit of the other door, which wasn't working, mom and author created storage and seating by the door they used and everything was way better. Just a super helpful book even for we who thought we were good at trouble-shooting.
I'm so late to find this, but I'm thankful that at no time in this video, you advised buy this or that or go to the dollar store and just buy a bunch of baskets to put all around. You actually found small spaces that were being unused and that could now be used for things cluttering up the house, which had no home. That's exactly what I needed. Thanks.
Clutter is downfall of every house...not just small house my friend!!!💕
Great insight🧐
Very helpful.
I agree, the advantage of a small house is that it forces you to clean and tidy up more frequently.
Great video.
Yes! Seriously, God bless the label maker inventor!
All of these tips are very useful. I have been in our 1600 sq ft house for about a year now and while we do have closets and storage spaces, our kitchen and bathrooms are very small. The bathroom does have a small linen closet, but having two different medicine cabinets (one above the sink and one above the toilet) is amazing!!
Label maker works well to label where things go - but if you need to make sure everything fits a certain way, take a picture of what “done” looks like! Helps kids know where things go and how to put them away!

"What's for dinner tonight; What do I need to pick up from the store; What time do I pick up my kids; *When is my anniversary* " LMAO
I lived for 19 years in a 9'x11' room. Less than 100sq ft I am a queen of storage solutions. I'm also an artist so the amount of art supply clutter I have is insane. I had a loft bed by utter necessity. A drafting table wouldn't fit if that bed was on the ground. My dad built my bed when I was 12 based off a drawing I made. The outer ledge to keep me from falling off the loft doubled as a bookshelf from the inside and a ledge shelf on top. Instead of a ladder I had stairs that were cubbies that my dad also built. Underneath the bed i kept my drafting table and attached to the "ceiling" of the desk area I had a cubby for papers and artwork with track lighting there too. I had framed corkboard strips on the wall and that same paper cubby area by the track lighting also had magnetic sheets where I kept my metal palette knives. That tiny ass room had 6 outlets that I had my dad install and I was genuinely sad to leave that room when I moved out and got married. Its still set up how it was before I left, just now its my parents storage. I'm glad I grew up in that space though bc it helped my creativity flourish. My current apartment is 1100sq ft and I'm not lacking storage space, its just awkward storage space so the ideas I had as a kid in that bedroom definitely help in my apartment now
Love your stairwell coat closet!!! Great tips!
U guys are blessed with a gift
One thing that helped me when my son was young ( and then when the grandkids were young!) was to put some of his toys away in a bin for a month or two (or longer), then rotate something else out and bring back the first batch. It keeps them feeling like they have new toys to play with and decreases boredom. When you pull out a box and get a big ho-hum response, it may be time to donate or pass on to a younger child. (It also minimizes the overwhelming factor when it’s time to have them start learning to put things away!)
One thing in one thing out! My daughters parted with 40 of their whopping 257 stuffed animals, so I treated myself to a shoes rack and I'm so happy to be able to find my shoes and stop tripping on the pile!
Stairwell storage is brilliant!
She's so enthusiastic this is the first video I saw from her I love her already
Lol! My husband still doesn't know where everything is. After 19 years together. 😂
Lettuce Eat With Suzanne Ridgeway I think that's Mostly Because women Start off doing it. Should be Shared, Equally, the Responsibilities. What if one of You gets Seriously sick? That would be bad enough, + stressful, but more so if Your 'other half' hasn't a clue. Help + Teach each other. Being on Your own, You hve to deal with things. You can Learn in So Many ways Nowadays.
@@viviennejordan215 my husband tries but, always stress that when we are older we will have less things. Now is the time that my children need to learn. He dose work too much for our family. My children are going to be great spouses. They have resolved that by saying we are to live with them so we only need to take care of ourselves then.
Ha Ha! On the flip side, we moved so much growing up...that I know where my mom tends puts everything in her kitchen even when we've moved to a new place. She puts the day to day dishes and tools in easy access areas between the sink and the stove. : ) I guess I have learned her logic! Maybe husbands need to learn their wives logic?
@@viviennejordan215 In truth -- when we gals started out -- I think we coveted that "position of power", in that WE decided where things went. AND, if we were the ones to go get "whatever", we could then "maintain the order" we'd managed and we kept others from mucking it up. Sadly, we haven't learned how to achieve the power to command our housemates NOT to MUCK UP the works, and to "MAKE IT RIGHT" when they're done with whatever.
Great ideas! Just a note on medicine cabinets. Don’t put anything that shouldn’t be around damp/hot places. Since you shower in this room, you don’t want to keep medicine, makeup or perfume.
The one tidbit that I hadn’t thought of was the one item in, one item out. Like that a lot. If I buy something new, it needs to replace something else. 👍
Girl same I put one thing away and my daughter & husband take out 5
Heh, heh, heh...Try this...Get one large box; put it somewhere discrete (under the dining room table if you have one?) Whatever gets left laying around, put it in the box. When they come looking for the item, tell them to check the "depository".
>>> The first lesson we need to teach THEM is the one WE have to teach OURSELVES, and that is WE are NOT their maids!! A CHILD -- or for that matter, a HUSBAND -- does not become (or sustain) SELF-RELIANCE when they are not EXPECTED to be SELF-RELIANT!!!
@@amkarei ,I wish this could work!but alas all tips and tricks fail!
@@kittybegum8486 Sadly then, Girl...You are DOOMED!! I will say prayers for your aching back. (Naw, I'm guessing you're still young; there's hope for you yet!)
@@amkarei when I used to move my partner’s stuff like keys, phone, briefcase to either a safer place (not a tripping hazard, or something our cat would knock into the kitchen sink), he would get so angry with me. “Don’t move my stuff! I Now can’t find my (keys, phone, wallet...).” So now I just kick the briefcase out of the doorway, and, as for the keys, phone, wallet, etc, you’re on your own, buddy. Not my responsibility.
@@HeronCoyote1234 I can SO understand why you have taken this tack. No one's psyche can long sustain snarls and attacks. Sadly, given his attitude toward your efforts, and your VERY understandable response, I won't be buying you a "Happy 50th" card.
Never thought about over the door storage, thank you.
LOVE, LOVE my label maker..💜🧡💛💚💙
Thank you, Kallie, for the great organizing tips! You’ve inspired me! 💪🏼
Love “...when is my anniversary” 🤣
Thank you for this! I have a 1600 sq for house with 1 eight yr old, a husband and a 3lb teacup poodle (3bed 2bath) and I'm always trying to find more storage. Houses built in the 70s do not have enough storage lol! I am an organizational nut. Love your videos!
I wish I had that much room, I live in a two story cap cod with a basement. 780 sq ft footprint. Built in 1926 with one closest upstairs.
Ok, I'm definitely going to put a shelf in my spare bathroom!!!
Great stuff helping me improve myself
Thankyou for video also hanging baskets from ceilings good to put things in x
Very useful tips. Thanks for sharing.
Love the color of the spare bathroom
Great tips, Kallie! TYFS!
These are some great ideas! I started storing out of season stuff under the bed this last fall, I'll have to figure something out for the winter stuff, since sweaters take up WAY more room than tank tops, lol
My Mom always to keep our home neat n tidy with 7 in family. I know she would take cardboard boxes of different sizes and put contact paper on them for storing things and storage dressers. But she made everything work. Sure miss her greatly.
I love your creativity! Awesome ideas!
love this!
Love it. Thanks for the motivation and the tips!
Excellent tips...I'm getting started right away!!!👍
I agree with everything you said some of the tips you gave I will have to use. thank you
Always happy to watch your videos!!
I love having a label maker!!
Label maker can’t live without one
Yes ty for these hacks ideas
Dead space use up high. Love it. Great honest video that is doable.
I love the shelf in the bathroom. That’s a great idea. 💡 !
You are a genius! Loved these tips!
Love your video... Great tips!! I'm a professional organizer & the vertical space & space behind doors (medicine cabinets too) is most looked over. There are great magnetic products out there I use in my own home that are awesome!! 😊
Great tips. I recently bought shelves for bathroom. I also have that same rule of thumb. When something comes in, something must go out.
I've been watching a few of your videos, and that Lil Miles is so adorable!
I LOVE the ceiling shelf idea 😍 Such a great use of space and I can definitely make one in my kids bathroom 😃 thanks for sharing 🖤
Love this! Cant tell you how many times i have struggled with trying to find a home for all of my stuff since i moved into a smaller house! I love to declutter my stuff regularly because i have 5 kids and i homeschool so stuff accumulate quickly! The less stuff i have the less stuff i have to manage and find homes for things lol
Love this video
I would have never thought in the basement stairwell!!! Thank you so much. We just bought a new house and no main level closet!
Love this. I want a label maker so badly! And the comment about husbands = 100% true 😪😄 It made me (and my husband) laugh
Before you buy a label maker, check the cost of replacement tape, cause that can be more expensive than the machine itself.
😂 yes and my kids old enough but I guess I still need do some picture and writing labels for their stuff.
Yeah, I was going to say, paper sticky labels, cheap as chips, though they can fall off, or get dirty. Doesn't hurt, just to re-do them .

Coat rack on the stair wall, genius.
What changed my life was the Ikea-type shelves with storage cubes. I stacked two in our bedroom, so they are about 6 feet high. 16 cubes, I think. I got two colors of fabric cubes that matched our bedroom colors and alternated them. So instead of my tiny vanity, suddenly we had 16 storage spaces, and it really solved a lot of our problems. Now everything has a home, and bedroom clutter has been eliminated. With children and a small home, our bedroom was the dumping ground and it was never company-ready. Not anymore!
Great tips Kallie. Our home is older (1953) and our storage options are awful (the bedroom closet is so small my hubby keeps his clothes in the spare room!). I’ve been using the under bed storage for years and it works great (shoes are perfect for this space) and the label maker is also so useful, especially in the kitchen. Thanks for sharing and I hope you’re enjoying your weekend. 🤗

Excellent tips!💕
I like to use a door hanging shoe holder on the back of my bathroom door. It holds all the bigger stuff that won't fit in the drawers.
I'm in love with my new label maker lol
Thanks for this hacks 💖
The Tribble sitting on your camera surprised me. ♥
Highly useful tips, thank you...oooh and I love your coffee machine!
Label maker! Hallelujah! You cracked me up. I have used a label maker for years!
You look great in this video .. that lipstick blends so well with your skin.. 💛
It’s like you are making videos specifically for me lol. ❤️
Totally agree with shelves at ceiling height.
Another tip is to set limits. That is to say figure out the amount of space and par down if needed. I kept trying to fit 5 lbs of stuff in a 3 lb bin. Didn't work. Now my house is getting organized and I feel at peace. Great video!
You're the cutest! I love how your quick videos always give me ideas for getting my sh*t together lol. I so wish I could do a medicine cabinet! When you said not really an option for renters, I thought oh crap....the under the bed idea has been saving me lately, my bed is high up so I can fit quite a lot! Less dust bunnies accumulate under there now too..at least that's what I'd like to think!
Try a clear plastic over-the-door shoe organizer. They come in different widths, in case you have a narrow door.
