- Yes, that is a candle holder made COMPLETELY out of Jolly Rancher candies.
This medium was suggested to me by Jeff @ TAOFLEDERMAUS and I knew I had to try it! The shop has never been this messy or smelled this good. Now, I'm off to find someone willing to clean up all this candy.

wow. your drill press pulled jolly rancher into taffy, neat.
Wasn't that amazing! It was just like taffy....
Only on his channel would a comment like that be normal.
+nboese90 I did, and my kid tried it. Super weird...
Nothing like jolly rancher / cutting oil taffy. Puts hair on your chest.
from oriana. I like your moves😩😩😂🙄😍
I guess now you need to make a candy bowl out of candles.
I'm from the future and he did it with Tootsie Rolls!
@@ArchangelExile umm it was a cereal bowl and he left it edible.
@@helema23 I misread the original comment. I thought it said, "candy bowl out of candies".
@@ArchangelExile so did I lol...
"i'm gonna melt down these candies and pour them molten hot into a mold!" *proceeds to use the one and only glue that will fail with the application of heat*
Project Idea: a dipped twizzler turned into a pen👍 That would be awesome
*something potentially project ruining happens* peter: *slowly turns of lathe* "HAHAHAHAHAHA" >live life like Peter
off*
I'm assuming you're talking about 4:40
drill press*
Hah, this was an AWESOME episode, Peter. The Kavity King commercial, your uncontrollable laughter, and the ungodly mess were just hilarious. Oh yea, and the unicorn voice! Hahaha.
That's awesome! I love the colour variations between the layers. As soon as I saw you drilling the hole I thought "Oh No!!! Heat (from friction) + candy = one giant mess!" Glad you got a good laugh out of it tho. I bet it was a beast to clean up.
If that tool was mobile I'd just take it outside and use a hose to rinse it off.
I want to see a cleanup video. like you did with the rust on your drill press.
Alright. I'll make one then! :)
+1
Peter Brown +1
Clean-up live stream!
YES! DIP IT: iPhone 7 !!
Dip a pizza. Make a epoxy pizza, pizza tray.
Jirou Lierge ur not supposed to put food on epoxy
Kieran !! He maid a epoxy cake tray
noma jhondeere your still not supposed to put food on epoxy if you plan on eating it
take it up a notch and eat the epoxy preserved pizza ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
That is such a cool idea.
I swear I could smell apple at times ;)
That's awesome! The shop has never smelled so good before!!
ayy this candle project was pretty s w e e t if you ask me ;)
wow
but if it had gone wrong he would have been in a sticky situation
+Spark Gap BWHAHAHHAHAHA
As sweet as that axe handle.
i bet Kate cant bear that joke
I would have hated to have to clean up that mess. You should try glass blowing melted jolly ranchers.
Can you do a Lego dip it? Maybe you could make another axe handle - this one being more stable
Demolition Man yes dude that would be very good
that would be awesome
i second tyne dipping of the legos!! make it so Peter lol
I 4th this motion
Fellas, check his Instagram (@peterbrownwastaken) and I think you will be happy👍🏻
When I get made at my tools, I threaten to send them to Peter Brown's shop... ;-)
Dip it idea: bread specifically garlic bread.
Please?!?
Or lasagna
Bella Holman I don't think the oils will let the resin cure properly
won't know til someone tries it....
Hah. Dip it: bread. Specifically into garlic sauce.
GARLIC BREAD YES!
Dip it #13 skittles door knob
I actually made a breakaway stained glass window for a show with Jolly Rancher candies. It looked fantastic, but I had to keep the cast and crew from eating them. Backstage smelled delicious, though!
What a great idea! Do you have any pictures of that? I would love to see it!
Peter Brown Somewhere, I do. 'Twas the days before digital cameras, so let me see what I can scan. I got the idea from those stained glass cookies you make at Christmas.
a cereal bowl made out of cereal for your dip it's
hey peter congrats on winning the instructables woodworking contest with you secret wood ring it was a great instructable i should know i was one of the judges XD. great build this week too
DIY Jet Engine Guy hey cool! I love Instructables! I'm a finalist in an Instructables contest right now, as a matter of fact. And I second the congratulations Peter!
Thank you very much! I love Instructables. Such a great site and great community!
.........we got maniacal laughter twice in this video....
Score....
I wonder what you can do with those wrappers?
He kinda reminds me of Rob Dyke! Voice and all
you don't need to be rude about it
Bella Logos
Bella Lugosi I've been thinking the exact same thing. Also I appeeciate your username. Classic.
*cannot unsee*

Im sorry for that pun i couldn't help my self
No need to apologise, after all it's all Jolly good fun.
cleanurpants no.
Chet Brayton yes.
+cleanurpants LMAO
John wolf yas I love it lmao
Ever think about making something out of books? Maybe a bookshelf?
Mr. ROFL he should!
Book bracelet.
He made a tablet stand out of a book so maybe
Your workshop is going to be sticky for the next month! Funny video, you crack me up.
Wow, this will be so awesome for christmas
Do you want ants? because that's how you get ants.
shit, someone already said this.
same
like the reference
sick reference game
My thoughts
I'd like to see you turn a bowl made completely of resin with some glitter or some other kind of thing suspended in it. Maybe a resin bowl with a bunch of random wood off cuts.
I was just watching this video again with my daughters and the oldest one thinks you should make one big enough for cereal... "then you could just eat the bowl after!"
i aspire to live my life with the same level of joy , optimism, and creativity as Peter
Forstner Bit Taffy. I think that's a world first. Nice video Peter. I liked the way the colours flowed into each other. Do you reckon that effect can be replicated with coloured resin?
100% sub out the candy for resin and you've got a much more useful object. I would also say, adding an HDPE plug in the center to avoid having to drill out that gigantic hole...
If you have a food grade drill press then just do this when making toffee, 5 hours of kneading into 30 seconds of drilling and 4 hours of cleaning
Who thinks he needs a television show? Like if agreed.
I have to say this is *puts on shades* a pretty sweet project.
Your laugh is infectious! I love watching your videos.
guess who's gonna have ants in the workshop
is it me?
Peter Brown haha yup
Ya know. You've gotten to experience the craziest things doing this stuff.. Who can say they've done this shit, really. It's incredible. I hope you never stop Peter.
You see Peter, this is why there's ants in the workshop. The end result really looks like glass.
One of things I love about your show is you just don't give up on a project. You find a way and that's inspiring!
Very interesting material to work with. Would not have expected it to turn to taffy when you drilled it.
It might be that it had not cooled down completely in the middle.
Chase Wilbur The heat from the friction of the drill bit caused the candy to melt
This episode is just so fun. Peter's laughs are pure.
You just made taffy out of jolly ranchers xD
I'd stretch the jolly rancher taffy, then sell it unless it hardens
Haha I love how much whimsy was in this episode! An instant favorite with all Peter's laughing and giggling at the sugary mess everywhere!
Halloween is coming up, you HAVE to make something with candy corn. Maybe a trick or treat bowl?
UndeadPasta dip it candy corn bowl- for holding candy
Brilliant!
Dude, Major props for being willing to sacrifice your tools and/or work area for our education and entertainment. I love this channel!
My god your laugh is contagious.
I am so impressed that he managed to keep his sense of humor throughout the video.
I kinda want to try melting down some Jolly Ranchers now. Giant block o' candy, woo!
I just discovered this channel, and while these type of videos are usually not my normal watching, Peter always manages to make the process interesting and easy to understand, and I love it. Thanks for opening up your shop to let us see your skill and creativity!
You know for a fact that as soon as the camera was turn off Peter ate the shit out of that candle holder 😂
But he sprayed it was lacquer. I don't think that is something that should be eaten.
SUPERMAR10312 dictionaries are good for looking up words you don't know, such as; a joke. 😂👍🏻
"a joke" is two words thank you very much.
SUPERMAR10312 touché good sir
The laugh at 4:51 is pure joy. Pure. Joy.
"That's how you get ants!" That drill bit though... dang.
Taofledermaus is by far one of my favorite Chanel's to watch by far
Sweet project :)
good morning from germany :D
Goodnight from America
1:10am in Michigan so goodnight but also good morning
Guten Morgen von Amerika. Ich spreche ein wenig Deutsch. Ich lerne.
I used to live near the JR factory when I was a kid, before Hershey got their grubby hands on it and it was still in Colorado. You could always tell what day of the week it was by the flavor of candy they were making. The smell was awesome!!
How to get ants 101 XD
Never in my life did I expect that a workshop channel would be one of my favorites but yet several videos later here I am.
Seriously though, your personality just sells the videos so well and I love watching them even though I don't have a huge interest in this stuff. Pretty sure I've seen the majority of the videos on this account at this point.
Ants for days on the shop?
Please tell your tools "Thank You" for their continued sacrifices for your frequent experiments and our enjoyment.
At least if you mess up, you could just eat it!
Oh Peter Brown, how I enjoy your shop time follies! 😸
How's the epoxy bacon holding up?
Peter is such a good sport. When he started laughing I was already having a heart attack and I'm not even the one who has to clean up the mess 😂
Oh Peter! Rockler isn't even going to know what hit them! Woodworking! Ha!
I keep telling them that. We'll see what happens!! :)
you've probably already thought of this but next time make the shape you want the candle holder to be out of wood/something easier to turn, then make a mold out of it, then fill the mold with the melted candy as you wish, then just bore out the center. going slower and using a dry lubricant would help you keep your tools from getting all gummed up as well.
on a side note, this might work better with a harder candy. jolly ranchers are kinda soft for hard candy.
p.s. watching you turn jolly ranchers, my favorite hard candy, into a giant multilayered block made me want to do that as well, but then eat it instead of turn it into a piece of art. great video, i look forward to your next project.
Love to hear you laugh, obviously enjoying what you are doing.!!
This was entertaining as hell Peter, I would hate to have to clean up all of that sugar. Have you ever tried to make micarta? It's made out of epoxy and sheets of whatever material you want to try and I think it would be right up your alley
Comrade Frost he made one with jeans then one with wire
Oh cool, thanks! I'm going to have to find those videos now
after a couple weeks with no new videos from you I was stoked to see you posted one!! thanks for sharing and please share more often! a vlog would be awesome!
Wow, that honestly held up way better than I expected on the lathe! Looks amazing!
epoxy a bunch of cd / dvd's together and turn it into a goblet!
Those discs are pretty brittle, unfortunately.
I'm sure they'll be fine. He's turned more brittle things before
MAN Peter, you and the tools really gave it up for the team on this one. There was a sugary mess all through out the shop on this one. At least, you achieved a good result. Thanks
Peter, we've been through this. Why don't you plan this shit out?
TRY THINGS BEFORE YOU FILM THEM YOU BUFFOON. I WILL NOT CONTINUE TO WATCH YOUR SHIT.
it's more fun this way Shaun. Honestly though, buffoon is a great word....
I'm sorry to shout. I very much enjoy your content, and watch your videos as soon as they're posted. As an artist and a builder myself, I see so much more in your work than the finished product you produce for your videos sometimes. Do you give yourself small time constraints? Why not just wait between Jolly Rancher layers and let the colors solidify in this instance?
With the gummy bear axe, the cardboard mould frame you made obviously wasn't adequate for the weight of the urethane and handle, and you seemed to know this by your frustration. You follow this up by sanding exposed sugar on the surface of the resin. Then ran over to the sink with the axe handle, put it under water and didn't expect it to break. I feel like something like this happens in each video, and I know it's part of the creative process. I, and I'm sure many others, view you as a professional. I'm just proposing increasing the professionalism a bit.
Shaun Lambert II I'm glad he doesn't get the process down pat before filming them. Trial and error is how we learn, and watching that learning process is what makes the videos fun. You're not guaranteed what you're watching happen is going to work out, just like real life. It inspires me in my own creative process. This show isn't How It's Made. Also, nobody is making you watch these.
There are so many workshop videos showing nothing but success. I do the best I can with the information I have. I like shooting from the hip.
I'm a "what if" channel. Not a "how to" channel.
It was like a cube jaw breaker, it looked SOO good
wait until the first layer dries yhen move on to the next layer
Zane McCleery that's what I thought
Only problem with that is the long times it takes for EACH and EVERY layer. It all adds up
Then there would be a weakness between each layer which could separate when it's worked.
The candy totally turned into taffy when you drilled the middle hole! How funny! 😂
I wanna know who cleaned that mess
I hear that's the thing to watch out for in your kids Halloween candy this year - spray lacquer.
Looked like a unicorn threw up on you then immediately exploded
I love that you can laugh at this, it warms the heart
How to make candy floss with a drill press 101
Very cool! The laughing throughout was the best part!
Mine would have had a huge bite mark on it when I finish it.
How does one resist eating it?
The Mad Hatter the epoxy helps with that
Super Video, Peter.
The idea from Jolly Rancher to make a candlestick is "mad" super.
There you have some to snack, the chips from the drilling and turn. :-D
you poor tools, salt was painful after but this just looks like torture in motion. i bet that was a bitch to clean up... probably not as bad as sanding rust off after salt though.
Ha! Sugar comes off pretty easy and isn't corrosive. But dang, it is a bit sticky!! :)
I totally love the random spurts of laughter throughout this video. Totally shows you're doing the right thing with these whacky ass experiments. Good job sir! Another fun one.
How the buggery did you clean all that up?
I love when 18month old videos I have already watched pop up on my recomended list.
7:40. The moment when my desire to lick it disappeared.
I absolutely love that you can cracking up laughing at having your tools and self coated in melted chipped up candy.
Why did you choose to use that tool?
+Hans Starks I picked it because it was the smallest sharpest tool I had. Just trying to eliminate breaks. :)
This is probably the best project for tasting the fruits of your labor😁
isn't sugar highly flameable?
It's coated in laquer.
No
I'm not going to lie. I am so glad you exist, Peter. Your videos make me so happy. I've watched them about 2-3 times over the months since I randomly found this crazy dude carving acrylic, but man I don't regret subbing. By far my most watched and favorite channel. Keep up the sweet work, I'm excited for the future Shop Times!
You should have polished it with your tongue
His laugh is infectious, it's amazing
0:00 - 0:05 what the hell is wrong with you
HAHA!
So many things...
Shitty Rip-off Edits ikr
It gets better and better from there 😂
The whole video I was going "NO! Oh my god what? NO! GOD no!!" at the screen :P Then right at the end when Peter put a fucking candle in the thing xD!!
Peter you're insane, don't ever change man :D
It was both terrifying and awesome. I love it. Nice pic of 2D there.
When you took it out of the mold my first thought was "lick it!" 🤣
I know this vid is old, but your giggle still cracks me up!
I can't even remember if I subscribed for wood working videos or dip it, crayon, colored pencil and jolly rancher videos. Either way I love them.
You turned jolly ranchers into laffy taffy with that drill
Hard Candy Hives and the laughter after is the best part of the whole thing. Your forstner bit was becoming a jolly rancher cotton candy machine. It is obviously very difficult to machine sugar with its low melting point. Water "sanding" was a great idea. A segmented jolly rancher turning would be neat to see as well. Would be a 3d "stained glass" look.
That turned out beautiful!!! Jolly Rancher candle holder! The water was a great idea. Nice Job!
