Dip It #7: Crayon Wrapper Bottle Stopper
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 9 сен 2024
- You asked for it, I delivered! This is made from the discarded crayon wrappers that were used to make the Rainbow Bud Vase.
I took 33 empty crayon wrappers, cast them in polyester resin, then turned them on the wood lathe. I also had a few bumps and hiccups along the way...

Haha, "I'm sorry, but mines not". That turned out looking great Peter.
+April Wilkerson Thanks April!
I'm waiting for you to finally get a damn sponsor from Crayola.
Dip an entire Big Mac, then use it for the top of a wizard staff!
Yes
+Anthony oh my god, that's great
LMAOOO!!!
Has to happen at some point on this channel
Best idea so far
you should take an old mirror, brake it down into shards and dip it! I think it will look cool!
Lorenzo Giancristofaro bad luck
Seconding this
Break
That would make a really cool screwdriver handle too.
That would be perfect for my mom, she is an alcoholic and a kindergarten teacher.
well how the hell else is she going to be able to deal with kids all day? lol but yea that woukd be great for art teachers too!
MEEEEE
😂😂
@Brenda Singer Do you mean CHRISTMAS 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄 ? Or is that a swear word now ? SMH. 🤬🤬
Hilarious
Teacher: "now class, what does 4 bottles of jack Daniels plus 6 bottles of jagermeister equal" ?
Billy(the cool kid): " a weekend at my Dad and new stepmom's house"?
Teacher: correct ★★★
Hahaha
You should try this again but with one color. I really liked the looks of the purple one in particular and would love to see one made COMPLETELY of that color.
Yeah the purple was my favourite too, maybe purple and green striped??
You should use old wood shavings of multiple woods and mix it in epoxy and do some sort of project with it
Totally surprised at the result. Awesome job!
Now, I just need an excuse to buy a lathe... and some crayons.
And a house that has a place for a lathe
Insane to think this video is eight years old. This is the video I come to when I'm stressed and I know I need something to calm down. The process of seeing something as simple as crayon wrappers turn into something so stunningly gorgeous - this video brings me a comfort I cannot properly put into words. If someone asked me what my favourite video on all of youtube is, I would say it's this. I've loved your content for nearly a decade now and this video has gotten me through more stressful times than I can list. I hope wherever this bottlestopper is, that it's loved. Such a beautiful piece should be appreciated.
that turned out amazing.
+Arklan Uth Oslin Thanks!
+Peter Brown screw driver Handel from the wrapper
hey apply clear nail polish no it it look cool on mine
tbh peter's videos always calm me down when I'm having major anxiety or depression issues. i dunno why, but the vibe in the videos relaxes me a lot, and I really enjoy seeing the projects. they're all really good. so, thank you for this.
+Peter Brown After watching your videos with crayons, I was wondering if you could pour drips of molten crayon or shavings from crayons into the epoxy? If you were able to catch multi-colored drips of wax in the epoxy, that would look awesome. Another idea would be to fill gel caps (from medicines) with gold and silver leaf. After you put the flakes into the gel caps, you can fill them with a mineral oil. Since it's crystal clear, the flakes would look like they were just floating in the epoxy. Hope my ideas will spark new projects from you. 😎
yes! this one.
yes yes
I love how you turn scraps from everyday items and turn them into actual everyday items, it's amazing!
The final product looks like blown glass
what I like best is that you show us what didn't work instead of a perfectly finished end result.
Yep..........are you sure....mmmmmm...........yep............another winner from the Peter Brown stable of quirky videos.
You my friend are a joy to watch.
Take care
Mike
Yes, a winner! I love that you're not only willing to do crazy experiments, but that you seem to love doing crazy experiments.
you won me at "33 is the year hobbits come of age"...lol fyi
Peter, that is a work of art that could sell for a high price. This is an amazing project.
Lol! " crayons melt at 140 degrees, if your house is that hot.....I'm sorry!"
That is by far one of the coolest things you've ever epoxy'd!
...the hobbit speech was so beautiful... :')
3:20 I love it when you have enough experience and knowledge of your material that you can solve problems like this. I don't work with epoxies as anything other than adhesives at this point, but someday I hope to add that versatile material to my repertoire.
Very cool bottle topper, Peter! I especially like that some of the papers are intact and legible enough, and angled so that you can still not only identify what they were, but still read what color it was. :)
GREAT end result Peter!!!
Yeah, if the inside of your house is 140' then your Crayon Bud Vase "should" be the least of your worries.
Yay..at 4:07 he used the milk jug mallet! I am SO addicted to this channel! I have been binge watching for 6 hours since I found these videos! Don't ever stop creating! You are a true artist and your work is stunning!
One of my favorite pieces you've made! Great job!
You're right about looking like glass! It's BEAUTIFUL! Well done.
That is beautiful! It reminds me of a screwdriver handle.
The other day my English teacher asked us to pick an inspirational person, I picked you peter. You take the usual and make it unusual. What I love the most is that you prove that it can be done. Keep up the great work dude
very cool Peter!
+Geeksmithing Thanks man!!
+Peter Brown My husband said that it's sad that the bacon went to waste. :(
+Blackfish Dude :|
+Blackfish Dude u hijack threads often?
+Geeksmithing Big deal that your thread was hijacked. Were you the class monitor back in grade school when the teacher would step out? Don't you have more important things to worry about in life?
love the fact you show your "bloopers"! saves a lot of time finding out on my own! bravo!
OK! THat is cool! thanks for the great inspiration!
You should do a give away for some of your projects. Not all because I imagine it must be pretty cool to have some of these things around your home, but it definitely helps to connect with your audience. Especially for those of us who aren't talented in the way you are and can't make the awesome things you do.
do a dip it with cereal and make a bowl
Yeah, with Fruity Pebbles,
That would be cool. Maybe also Spaghettio's alphabet would look neat.
+RaveBlade7 like this comment so it could happen
I’m from the future. Guess what?
That turned out fantastic! Glad the suggestion was made. You keep making them and I will keep on watching them.
Can you make a coaster made of epoxy and crayon shavings?
Great job Peter, I didn't expect that to come out so well, really nice,
Take care Harry
Next Dip It you should try Hair! Either Pet shedding or Human Hair! I'd say that would look pretty unique!
One of my favourite of your creations, so glad you did it, Peter!
how about dipping some peas?
petty peas?
give peas a chance! :)
Sure, I will have a peas of pie.
peas!!
Persomnus 😝😝👍🏻
+Peter Brown this is by far my personal favorite bottle stopper you've made, keep up the good work!
Very cool and never would have thought of doing this. I sometimes sit and think to myself, one day, in the far far away future, someone's going to find the things we make and sit there thinking, wtf was this used for, why is their bacon in this plastic.. just why lol
I love that you include the errors in your trials, really appreciate it 😚
Oh how familiar I am with the epoxy volcano. Polyester, eh? Maybe I'll try that for sponge bowl attempt #4.
+krtwood It's nasty stuff to turn, but can't argue with the results!
+krtwood YESSSS! We need to achieve the sponge bowl greatness
+Peter Brown did you scrap the first two trys or are you going to do something with them and I wonder what that would look like as a drunken cutting board
+Peter Brown do something with airlift bb's pls.
+krtwood would it help to do it in thinner layers so you're not getting the whole mass at once?
I find it amazing just how beautiful something that starts off so simple can look.
I just saw the thumbnail and thought this was a "man vs pin" video. I was quite chocked to hear peter's voice
did not expect it to come out that clear. you are right it looks just like glass great job!!
YOU NEED TO USE IT AS A SHIFTER NOB IT WOULD LOOK SO GOOD IN ANY CAR THAT YOU PUT IT IN
orlando astorga that must happen now!!!!!!!!!!!
I really like how the wrappers around the circumference aren't complete tubes. They look great having turned them down to the point where they're "C" shaped.
I saw one of your videos on my recommended list and subscribed immediately after watching, I've now seen almost all of them! Watching your videos has really inspired me, keep up the amazing work! P.s Just an idea, but I'd love to see autumn leaves in resin. Perhaps a single one, sanded with a domed face would make a pretty pendant? Or perhaps crafted Into a fruit bowl? The reds yellows and browns would look beautiful :)
Crayon wrapper end grain haha that's where I was spitting coffee all over the living room. Great project Peter
HEY MY NAMES UP THERE! Please do an epoxy spinning top made from crayons or wrappers
+Blake Sorenson Thanks for the ideas!
+Peter Brown Thank you for the videos!
I haven't watched the making of the bottle yet, but this stopper is insanely cool!!!!!!!!
epoxy and turn an ear of corn
The bottle stopper would make for a great wine bottle stopper. Many wine fanatics often hunt for decorative corks for their bottles that are reusable.
Hi, Can you make something out of glow sticks or glow in the dark paint?
way cool Peter! I don't know if I told you before, I use the cardboard center of a paper towel roll to make bottle stoppers, cut to length, put tape at one end and fill the other, once cured, drill your hole ,mount, turn off the cardboard, a little shaping and sanding and there you go. Quick and easy. Give it a try sometime
CHALLENGE!!!!: Suspend melted crayon into resin!!!!
*Takes Superhero Pose*
+AngryCornflakes Challenge Accepted...
Now, that is a striking piece! Who knew?
Question: Do you ever do voiceovers? Its hard to tell..
also, you should do "dip it" and try to make sonething cool with mirrors or little mirror rhinestones and stuff to make something cool
+Jillian Evans No voiceovers, It's all just me in real time in the shop!
I like the rhinestone idea!
Love your videos! Please don't cut out or shorten the turning process in your videos. I really enjoy the gradual transformation. So relaxing :)
maybe im just weird but ive wondered how long food lasts and whats the longest. ive seen in Japan they dip popcorn in resin to make earrings and jewelry. I wanna try myself but idk where to even start lol
Look on amazon or ebay for epoxy resin :) I found some on ebay last night, the same brand used in the video, for only £30 approx $35-$40. Mix according to instructions. Then just use a piece of thin thread or fishing wire so you can dip the popcorn in the resin. You might need to use a cocktail stick to submerge the popcorn so it's coated all over, then tie the string onto something so the pop corn hangs free (put something underneath to catch drips). Leave to harden. You can buy drop earring pins on ebay, you can thread beads onto the string if you like, then just use the thread to attach it to the stem, and voilà! Popcorn earrings!! Hope that all made sense!
Your videos are the best, Peter. You've become my favorite RUclipsr over the last year and a half that I've been watching.
You should Dip it with a cooked egg.
Awesome! It really looks like a glass art. "And this is a rare peace of a bottle cap, from the late 14th century...". 😁
IM IN THE VID MY COMMENT IS IN THE VID
+Pedro Rodriguez Thanks for commenting!
+Peter Brown Why wouldn't I?! You are one of the greatest RUclipsRS EVER to me !!
+Pedro Rodriguez Congrats!
+Pedro Rodriguez #bromance :')
+Derpy McDerpinstein lol but true
Wow! That is wonderful my friend! Who would have guessed they would come out so good! The stopper looks amazing! Thanks for sharing! Cheers! Daniel
I thought from the thumbnail picture is was a bowl peice 😂
Holy moly! That turned out awesome! Totally unexpected! A true winner!!!
You could sell that thing for over $100
That is so cool! Why would someone dislike this video! Who would have thought that crayon wrappers would have looked so cool!
what about live insect specimen using epoxy?
I think you're right, an inlay would be AWESOME, especially the blues and purples and really strong gem tones on a dark wood.
LOVE it!!! Almost like a stubby screwdriver I have, but more stylish! Well done, sir!
the difference when you polished it was amazing. good work
Really cool! I wouldn't have ever thought of using crayon wrappers like that! It turned out great!
Peter Brown + resin = LOVE!!!!!!!!!
I love micromesh...
It's so satisfying to use and rewarding to see the mirror polish.
That turned out AWESOME, no pun intended! Epoxy+Peter+Basically Anything=Something cool and unique :D
that turned out way better than I expected. very nice
The perfect gift for teachers everywhere
ok, you get bonus points for making a LOTR reference within the first 45 seconds of your video. I think we'll get along juuuuuuuust fine.
I have no idea why I watch this but it's fun. Love this channel
What an amazing effect! It's like thin tubes of wood veneer, and looking at it end-on, you get a coloured "light pipe" effect. Very cool! :D
I have never seen anybody comment this, but I think that your displays of the final product are very interesting and give the project an interesting flare.
So fancy! Thanks for talking about the overheating. It happens nearly every time for me and I didn't know about the difference with polyester resin. Great video!
idk anything about resin or wpodshop or anything that you do but i love because of your creations and creativity
Looks a lot better than I first thought. Looks really cool.
Wow that came out beautiful, beyond what I was thinking. amazing how the color comes through with a good polish.
Kinda in the same boat as you in that I never thought it would turn out that awesome. Also, so glad it didn't catch on the lathe. Nice work.
You should put 2 of those crayon tubes stacked vertically and put some graphite inside it to make your own pencil. I think if you could get a high gloss finish with the entire crayon tube intact that would look so awesome.
I really like the challenges you give yourself, the results are always fascinating. Thanks. I worked with resins for many years and the over heating is always controlled by how much catalyst you put in, if its a cold day you put in more, if its humid and hot day you put in less. No resins should become so hot that it bubbles, as this reduces the strength of the resin. I would try a couple of experiments by halving the catalyst each time until it stops bubbling but still hardens the mix.
thanks again for the videos you do, I hope this helps. Cheers from Paul from Adelaide, South Australia.
For everything to be right in this world, Devo need to re-record their classic hit for you to use on this series!
IT LOOKS LIKE HARD BOILED CANDY!!! Like a lollipop or something - turned out really cool! Nice job Peter! :)
That turned out SO COOL Peter!
That turned out so nicely. I would love to see more DipIts.
That turned out pretty awesome, Peter!
Omg that second cast looks really cool!!!!
this would so cool as a child's room door knob
