I bet your kitchen draws are filled with some amazingly unique cutlery.
Haha probably!
It seems like everyone in the comments knows what tools and machines you are using. I can't be the only who doesn't know but watches these because they're interesting. I wish I knew more about this stuff because it looks like a fun hobby but I'm sure it's more than a hobby for you.
He names almost every tool
That scoop is defective. It served a bowl of ice cream that was clearly too small. Back to the drawing board.
+SJWoodworks LOOLZ
looool
SJWoodworks + Ha! Ha!
SJWoodworks I like the way you think!
Not gonna lie, I laughed a bit too hard at this.
The plastic would melt much better in small pieces, with much less browning... Perhaps you should add a sturdy shredder to your workshop, such as the kind made to accommodate credit cards. Wash them and toss them in the shredder as they are used up, and you will always have a ready supply of plastic shavings to play with.
Precious plastics has a tutorial on how to make a shredder, as well as Colin furze
you should make a toilet seat out of resin that has barbed wire inside it... that would be fun
I actually really like this idea😂 +Peter Brown
...just not gummy bears.
yesss
10/10 would bang again
You totally did this to justify having ice cream didnt you
no.... maybe.
+Peter Brown No shame in wanting ice cream man👍
Peter Brown hi
Hello Peter, I really like your videos. You make this kind of work/art seem accessible. I'd totally attend classes in your workshop. I know you are much younger but the first time I watched one of your videos was cus you reminded me of my dad. He was a POW, and a navy seal in Vietnam. He didn't have a lot of education and unfortunately we lived well below the poverty level. I got my artistic skills from him. He wanted a lathe but no way we could buy one. We took trips to the dump and he found an old handheld electric drill. He took it home, mounted it and turned it into a lathe. I still have a bowl he made for me. Couldn't get big pieces of wood to turn so he'd use what precious little glue he had and bond together stacks of throw away pieces. Taught himself. I'm sure he would have loved to try the stuff you do, just didn't realize he could use the materials you do. He's been dead seven years now and I miss him so, so much. I would loved to have watched your vids with him. Thank you.
your story brings back some nice memories...thanks
Tracy Herwig RIP Your dad
Rest in peace to your old man
perhaps a hdpe bottle opener. a bottle opener made from bottles.
Can you please please make like a pot for a plant out of this stuff, just imagine how cool a plant would look in a pot of this 💕
Gabby K that sounds like a awesome idea I like it
Great. Now I need an oven in my shop. My wife is gonna love this.
i love what you do peter, but i swear sometimes i watch you just to make sure you still have both your hands and eyes and a working pair of lungs... this always looks SO DANGEROUS! :p
Why??
He always takes care
+Jordy Nico dude, lighten up. yeah, he's really good at what he does, but he's only human. Aren't we all? Is it so surprising that a person would worry for another when they're handling really hot or sharp objects? And didn't i already say I love Peter's videos?
that's because you're a woman Hajra, and you don't understand these things. Just listen to Peter and follow his directions and you'll be fine. We would follow your lead in the kitchen, so you just do likewise in the shop!

I use these videos to relax after a stressful day.
It's a lot of work for an ice cream scoop handle, but you showed that it could be done - self-recycling and repurposing of trash into something useful, with a cool DIY vibe and an artisan's flair . Kudos to you!
I use deer skin gloves for wood burning and can touch the tip and not get burned. I also melted a penny and it got on my glove and I did not feel a thing.
It seems to actually be _serving_ a function.. ehehehe
+ARTbyRMF nice!
that is a really "cool" joke
+Peter Brown what Im trying to say is that you are really chill on this video.
That's a nICE joke you got there
+Enclave General this comment is so bad i scream.
I love these HDPE videos, I had no idea about the reusability of it until watching your channel.
How funny that I am eating ice cream as I watch this lol. Yes it's almost 3 am, you don't know my life ok!!!
+brikhouse22 Same over here coconut ice cream
Can you make a video on the purposes of the different lathe tools?
When you pulled it out of the oven-it looked exactly like my mother in law's jello salad that I have lovingly dubbed ninja turtle soup. Very cool project and video.
Hahaha 😂
Lol. I'm glad I wasn't the only one that found that quite funny.
I absolutely love your channel. It reminds me of a hybrid between DIY and How It's Made. I've been binge watching your videos for the past three days.
Peter Brown, thanks for sharing your struggles and successes with us. You've saved us a lot of time.
I want ice cream now:)
+Shop built Me too!
I went and bought ice cream before I watched this
I would say the only thing you can do to make any of these plastic melting projects is to cut up the plastic into smaller dime sized pieces. It may be more time consuming but I think you'll like the end result better. Not to mention less of a chance of air getting trapped within.
I’m glad people in other parts of the USA recognize the Oregon has better ice cream
I love this! I find this sort of thing deeply satisfying- turning something that would have ended up in a landfill into something useful!
+Laynie Fingers Im losing weight right now, posting weekly updates on the progress. would appreciate some advice. come check it out!
Watching the spoon glide through the ice cream was strangely satisfying.
Cool video Peter, I really enjoyed it. Not only are you repurposing trash but the waste can go right back into the mix.
God Bless my friend.
I don't understand how you're not extremely famous. you explain how you mess up and you try again! youre amazing and I love your work!!
It looks very icecreamy. The swirls of color capture the spirit of icecream just right.
Sweet! looks great Peter, the scoop and the Tillamook :)
Another awesome project, dude.
Side note: I put in a comment about making a folding knife using plastic a while back. It would be really awesome if you gave it a shot.
I think the satisfaction we get in a little (ha!) project like this is may things together. We feel useful, we feel a certain independence and autonomy, we feel clever and creative, and we don't have to go the the store again and buy another questionable item that might go bad in 6 months. It's a good lineup of complimentary feelings and thoughts. And we are not arguing with the wife or kids while we are doing it!
The world needs more people like you!
For some reason, these videos are super satisfying, especially when you sand it all down. So pretty!
Almost looks like colorful marble. Really nice.
I feel like this episode had some great quotables/taglines for your channel: "You should be sooo not doing this!"
Awesome project!
I've done some woodworking back in my high school in the past. It's always my dream to do woodworking and occasionally I would thought about how plastic working. My teacher told me that what I'm thinking does not exist because plastic working is not realistic if you are to do it from recycled plastics. Didn't know that after 15 years, it's becoming more and more common to be done. Even you don't need a huge gigantic Industrial machines to bake them into malleable results. It's nice that you found a way to recycle plastics in a creative way without having to dumb it out and have it chuck out into the sea of trash plastics.
i never would have thought about recycling old bottles like that. seems like a great success, i look forward to seeing more.
I checked my email before watching this and saw that this project was featured in an instructables email! I'm happy to know that I can enjoy learning about your projects on that site as well
Yes! An informative video that's also entertaining... I love that you didn't edit out the burns or imperfections before you revealed the finished product. D.I.Y.ing can be very frustrating on first-trys and you humanized it which motivates me to stay calm and enjoy the journey. Thanks!
thank you for being real and screwing things up in your videos and going back to fix them or just going with the flow. I wish more people were like you in their videos. Keep up the awesome and creative work!
i literally just watched ever HDPE video on youtube today. Thanks for one more!
Nice save with that patch Peter! You have excellent taste in ice cream too!! Tillamook is in a class of it's own... cheese is top notch too :)
Peter, you are the Man...love what you are doing with HDPE. And the ice cream at the end just made it that much better.
What a perfect project for Pi day!
Am I the only one that gets really damn excited when a video gets out out by this guy?
+Zack Meagher Thanks! I really do appreciate that!
I like the upcycling feel to reusing the plastic at home. Drawer pulls would be cool for a future project.
YEAHHHH TILLAMOOK!!! REPRESENTIN' MY HOME TOWN! Good choice for ice cream Peter!
+Caleb Faulkner I've been there, it is a beautiful town!
+Caleb Faulkner My funny Tillamook story:
In Dec of 2001 I lived in Salem and it snowed about 6 inches or so. Which filled up the bed of my pickup. My wife and I took a drive from Salem up the OR coast, stopping for a bit in Tillamook. I shoveled out a bunch of snow on a street corner just for fun and went into a place for lunch
We then returned to find two older ladies playing in the snow saying " I cannot believe it snowed in Tillamook!!"
+Peter Brown Hahaha yes!! You probably started an entire town-wide spectacle once word got out!! We rarely ever get real snow, so when we do, it's a big deal!
+Peter Brown also Peter I should mention, the ice cream scoop came out great! It's certainly a beautiful and priceless kitchen device to have!
I have some of those ov-gloves from Walgreens, they work great for playing around with stuff in my fireplace. They would probably work well for molten plastic too
Dear Peter, I would recommend that you get some silicone oven mitts or silicone BBQ gloves to protect your hands.
I think I've already said this, but I think it bares repeating. You always make the neatest, most unique things ever, I love watching your videos.
At the start I didn't think the yellow would go but at the end I'm impressed with then end product the green and yellow and white go well together.
Tilmook Ice cream! I am jealous! Using the good stuff to show off the new scoop!
I don't have any of the necessary tools to do any of the stuff that you do but for whatever reason I binge watch your videos.
Can't fix a void in your walnut "on the fly"
Very cool project Peter, awesome!
Now that is one seriously COOL ice cream scoop Peter.
Keep having fun and being creative.
I think the scoop is going to need more testing.
Really like the principle of recycling hdpe too. I did it myself, put way too much effort into shredding the plastic and making a mold, but as it does the result was porous and inconsistent. You've got the right (forgiving) approach I think, and it's great that you show the things which don't go right.
It came out pretty awesome! I really like that swirly look!
we want more frequent videos ... i know it's a hobby but we are dying for more
Re-watching these because I recently bought a gear knob from a UK company called Toxic Knobs. They melt HDPE from bottles into blocks and turn it in a similar way, with great results. This is where I first got the idea though.
Peter the new handle really turned out great, thanks for sharing
That looks awesome. definitly gonna try the mallet sometime
I am just absolutely enthralled and amazed by the things you make! I honestly wish I had your level of creativity!!! Keep up these videos! It is awesome to see you put what would have otherwise ended up in a dump to good use!
I have been watching... And rewatching these videos, and have finally managed to convince my mum to let me use the old toaster oven in the garage to try this myself, might make rings or knife handles
I've been obsessed with watching your videos cx I really like them. I'm 17 and I really like how creative and simple your projects are and I wish to recreate some eventually!!
I do like the dark brown handle with the brass type scoop but that end result dose look pretty awesome.
These are things where I'm going "Wow thats neat! Totally gonna try something like this" and then never even think about it again haha
Pretty cool! I really dig the patterns!
way to recycle, Peter! Very, VERY cool! love the handle, and I thought it was kinda cool how the ice cream scoop was gold!
Tillamook ice cream (the best!) and Oregon Duck colors.... Awesome!
This is a great idea reusing plastic for different purposes
That Tilmook Chocolate Mudslide ice cream is the best ice cream I've ever had. My favorite for sure lol
Also, I love that you always get such beautiful hardware, it really sets your projects apart that much more. Love it!
It is funny how much effort we will put into something we love vs. something we don't. A day in the shop to avoid 1 min of hand washing.
This is the only you tuber I don't mind watching adds for.
Just for future reference, there *is* glue that can bond HDPE. I would try 3M ScotchWeld DP8005. It's a very weird tube, unlike most adhesives that are 1:1, this one is 10:1 so it has one really skinny tube and one fat one that dispense at the same time. It can also bond other low-surface energy plastics like PET. It's definitely not cheap (usually around $60-80 a tube depending on where you can get it from) but it's something you don't use often and it seems to have a very long shelf life because it's a 2-part adhesive. Also, for most plastic adhesive needs, I get DevCon plastic welder. There are a few products out there that claim to be "plastic welders" but make sure you get the cream-coloured stuff, it uses a different chemical composition and it bonds plastics *exceptionally* well. It can bond plastics to other materials too, like wood, metal, rough surfaces, smooth surfaces, it's awesome stuff.
Peter! You need some cheap welding gloves! a little insulation goes along way. This reminded me of the direct glass casting I did. You are often handing the glass with only kevlar gloves which protect you initially but can build up heat to that feeling where your hands are "cooking" :) We use welding gloves for handing torches/molds etc and would be a big step up for you here beyond mechanics gloves.
Now that's a cool way to recycle!
Peter, one day you'll go in the history books as a modern urban artist.
Nice project. I like how the colors came out. Your imagination far exceeds my own. Hope you report back how well it holds up in the dishwasher.
That is such an awesome application! It reminds me stylistically of kinda like the plastic equivalent of glassworking, then crossed with woodworking...
You should invest in a pair of "Ove gloves"
I remember they used to have commercials where one of the recommended uses was to reposition logs in a fire. Then they'd show someone reaching into a fire and grabbing a burning log like it was nothing.
Cool!
Now, make a set of bed knobs from that stuff!
I have to say, my favorite RUclips channels are the ones where as they tell me not to do something, they are doing that exact thing lol thanks for the info buddy lol
and we never do these diys we just watch
+mona pedro it's true lol
+mona pedro it's true lol
Love the ice cream scooper! Hope the new shop is coming along nicely as well...
Good job Peter. I like that you don't give up on your projects.
Great ice cream too. I really like Tillamook products.
Great idea, I'd like to see more of this type of thing done. I really like that it wasn't put in a landfill, so good on you buddy.
You did a fantastic job Peter.
It looks great 👍👍
This one is great too. I always want to fill my garage with power tools every time I watch one of your videos.
This should become an actual product available on the market. With the handle made of recycled plastics plus maybe a heated scopper end.
Liked that repair mate, very clever and tenacious.
Tillamook mudslide is my favorite Ice cream of all time! It is LEGEND!
That's really cool, and the swirly design definitely fits the function!
Tillamook ice cream is the best! I love going to their creamery and getting ice cream and cheese fresh. So good!
10 past 3 in the morning and i've never clicked a notification so quick :D another awesome video
I don't undeestand, but Peter's video's always satesfies me.
I really dig these HDPE projects...almost more than I like the epoxy stuff you've done!
Can we take a minute to agree that tilamook ice cream is amazing.
+Saul Ramirez Yes. Yes we can.
I think certain ice cream companies use HDPE for their plastic cartons, it'd be really cool and fit with your "ironic reuse" theme to make an ice cream scoop handle out of ice cream containers!
Looks like a mixed flavours icecream handle!! greaT!
