- A quick how to on how I made a recycled plastic mallet using a concrete mold and a handle out of pallet wood. Please leave a comment with any questions regarding this process. I'd love to help others explore using recycled plastic as a material.
This is also part of my entry for #makewhatyoufear challenge

“A bit more joy to hitting things”🤣 great work Bryce!
Thank you father in law haha
Thanks bryce good job. Mallet looks good
My wood mallet is perpetually covered with wood glue, so I like the non-stick aspect! Nice project, it looks cool.
Thank you jer! Since I made more concrete molds, one of my mallets have been covered in concrete. I was glad to not have to use my wood mallet.
Good job man 👏👏👏👏
Salute from Egypt 🇪🇬😊
Thank you! I need to update this vide as there is an easier way to make a mallet as well
Awesome mallet
Thanks. I do like these a lot. This style of handle seems to be more durable too, it's just so much work to make this way...
Love how both turned out!
I like the mold. I've been dreaming uo making a few concrete form pieces later on this year.
I need to make more molds myself... I've been thinking of making a smaller mallet head and still need to make a chess piece set.
Great work Bryce!
Thanks Chad, working on my goal to become an Etsy boy
Been seeing a lot of mallets recently, but that is a very unique design 👌
It’s an odd obsession that woodworkers have with mallets. Having a nice one does add joy to hitting stuff.
Great video and project!
Thank you! I’m still improving this design too.
This video should not make me want a cheeseburger...but it does 😆 great video Bryce
Wait... How does this make you want a cheeseburger?
@@wafflebeaver when you were making a plastic patty in the skillet
@@corystanley62 you must have been hungry at the time...
Great job mate👍
Thank you! I’m no turner but maybe in 10 years, I can get decent.
Love these mallets. 🙂👍#upcycle
Wow I had no idea it's possible to recycle plastic line that.
Yeah it took me some time to figure out… the @brothersmake show how to get that pattern using a panini press. I modified the method a little to just use cast iron pots and an induction hot plate. A litt more labor intensive but still cheap equipment.
Beautiful
Thank you Tory! I realized that I have to make a bigger effort to pretty up my plastic pieces and try to use plastic with other materials to make it more appealing.
While I am sold on your cement mold, with my limited experience with molds for aluminum, I would leave a small hole in the mold for the excess plastic to go to if you have overfilled the mold. Question; Could you use an electric fry pan to melt the plastic?
The exit hole is kind of there from the screws but I would add more exit holes on the next mold. Also, I like high heat silicone as a mold.
You can use any heat to melt plastic, I would just recommend being prepared to lose your cooking tools to just plastic. Also, I recommend using a good respirator and ventilation
What was the weight of the Hammerhead when you were finished?
And do you sell them and if so how much?
I think they’re about 300 grams now. I started making the handles a bit different. I’ve been selling a few of them on my website wafflebeaver.com but I’m out of stock currently
LOL, losing your cooking tools! We have thrift stores for an unlimited supply of old cooking tools. I want to build a plastic croquet mallet head and this will work wonders! There is no end to what can be done. Thank you.
Appreciate this! 👍👍👍... However, many watts of energy did you use during the whole process ?? Don't mind ... Just a lil suggestion 😂
Yeah. Probably a 1000 watts.
lots of smoke during the melting process, if someone reading this wants to try it, don't do it without an organic vapor filter on your respirator.
I support this message and I’m also adding an additional 6” ac infinity fan to help me control the smoke
Good work
Thank you
