If you listen to the lyrics, it's a journey through life. I can relate. My love was Sandi. She made many promises. It was me and her against the world!.. she screwed up horribly, hurt me deeply. I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then!... Found myself alone, surrounded by strangers I thought were my friend's... Partying like a freaking rock star, buckets of alcohol, mountains of cocaine and other things. Not a care in the world! Then you wake up one day, and need to settle down because the party can't keep going.... But you always find yourself reelecting....

Bob Seger has some great songs. The first time I heard Bob Seger was on the radio with my headphones one night. the song was "Mainstreet" in 1976 I think and to this day it's still my favorite Seger song. Thats how we learned about new songs and bands back then. Through radio and friends and borrowing albums from each other. There's something magical about being a teenager and music at that age. *YOU'RE KILLING ME!!!!!*
At age 56 feeling the sun in the western part of my life now this song never fails to bring a tear to my eye, hell it makes me cry period. A few of the lines in the song just tear my heart out. Just the thought of loves and friends of the past and how I didn't treasure them enough at the time. The line I found my self further and further from my home always crushes me. I was born and raised in Rhode Island and still love it and consider it my home, since I left in my 20's I found myself moving further and further away and have now been stuck in Florida for the past 25-30 years, absolutely hating it. Such a good song but I never dare to listen to it because of how much it depresses me. Which really sucks because of my love for Bob Seger and his music.

Seger was good friends with Don Henley and Glen Frey of the Eagles. He played them this song before it was released to get their thoughts on it. They loved it, but Bob told them he didn't like the line, "I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then", because he felt it wasn't grammatically correct. They said, "Are you crazy?!? As a young man Brad you should relate to this. Everyday toils and strife is against the wind. Making a living and taking care of yourself and Lex is running against the wind. All humans both male and female push forward until their end.

I have Bob's greatest hits on a thumb drive and I have it with me when I am riding my Harley. Every songs is prefect for riding. When riding 5 or 6 hours, you can play it twice and you have rode for 2 hours and you don't even know it. The piano solo is one of my favorite parts.
Add some Elvis Presley and Fleetwood Mac and there before you it.

The beauty of this song and many great ones is that you can take it for what it means to you! Doesn't have to be the same for everyone. Its self interpretation.

When you're young you believe you are invincible, your dreams will come true and you will eventually succeed ! But as you get older things get more complicated, you make concessions and adapt. But there are somethings that you do not give up on!! There are some battles you do not stop fighting!!

This was Seger's biggest album, and one of his most popular singles. Night Moves (and Live Bullet, recorded in Downtown Detroit) had been popular, but Against the Wind (the album) put him on the national stage. Before then (and largely since) he's had some popularity nationally, but is huge in Southeast Michigan where he comes from.

You're right .Brad. Life is running against the wind for most of us. The difference is running against the wind and having nothing to show, as opposed to your wind being accomplishing things in life. Supporting a family etc. The biggest fear of growing old just might be losing your ability to run against the wind. Great job as always you two.

Bob Seger was a Rock and Roll Radio Star... when music changed to disco, new wave, pop... MTV, he did bend to the pressure to change his music, he pushed on with the music he lived, not the flavor the record companies wanted artists to adopt for the video era....

This is one of those songs that is wonderful to hear when you're young and going through it. It hits. Then, when you're older, it hits different. Bob Segar is the king of putting that sentiment to music.
