Hey, Meister Mogul here! This is From Glory to Goo, a base-building and wave survival game in the realm of There Are Billions!

I like going all in with marines and border defending bunkers. When expanding, easy to keep bunkers online for whole game. Needs only 1 marine in it. Eventually you need more and more walls though. Splash damage army units OP.

Yeah, splash damage really helps tamper down the hordes.

I love running my captain around collecting a ton of exp at the start, you can get 3 levels pretty quickly

Oh totally! Leveling the Captain and clearing your surroundings is a double win.

If you build the water pumps, do you loose out on water income if you build around it?

Yes

Yep, so it's important to determine whether or not it is worth building over that tile (Lush and grass give more water than dirt). Connectors/roads do not take away income.
