It seems to me the Dapper 4 would be best named after a moth, given it flies into the big glowy thing. Perhaps the Atlas moth, as it holds massive rocks in its tractor beam, or a hawk moth, a family of moths known for distance travel and long reach. Bonus points in that they're also known as sphinx moths.

Hey Aavak, a few small tips. Building a corridor over any structure when in build mode will fill in the entire footprint of the structure with corridor instead of leaving an empty space like with the delete tool, so you don't have to fill it back in. You can also go into crew management mode with the Scarab (or any ship with your preferred crew roles) and open the drop-down menu to select "Save as my default roles" and then any new ships you make will have those roles available to start with instead of having to manually copy them over. And lastly if you want to move your ship without rotating you can use the strafe button (cardinal cross or hotkey Z) to do so instead of having to manoeuvre in relation to a ship (or asteroid). Hope this is helpful!

  • @victornunes900
    @victornunes900 Год назад +14

When you tell a ship to move to another object there are 2 types of "follow" commands. The one you're using is based on the target's orientation, but there's one that is based on the space grid. This other one would have the desired effect you were trying to achieve when moving the wreck near the station. I beleive the default hotkey to switch between them is Alt (click on target and drag to set distance, then press Alt (or w/e the hotkey actually is) before releasing the mouse button).

I did a little testing and found that without being actively recharged, a single large shield generator can last just over 5 seconds exposed to the sun (40.5s at 1/8 speed). divide the power capacity (18) by that and you get a power usage of around 3.6 energy per second per shield. a single large reactor produces 13.5 energy cells per second so you could actually run about 3.8 large shields off of one big reactor, though id recommend instead using one medium reactor (4.5/s) per shield. it still has a sizeable factor of safety without being nearly as expensive

If you were to weaponize the DPR4, a couple of suggestions...
Build a bumper of structure just behind the projected shield line, that way even if ships ram into you, they won't immediately be past your shields and firing into your soft, squishy, interior.
Next, more of a strategy suggestion, but you can use the tractor beam for combat too. The tractor beam, while in pull mode, will greatly speed up your ship if you are moving towards what you are pulling, allowing you to potentially close the gap before the first volley is fired. Once they are resting firmly against your bumper, you can bore into them with your choice of weapons, my suggestion would be cannons of some kind along with a few disruptors to help handle shields.

"Moth" because of the old moth to a flame allusion; It is literally diving into the sun's fire. If moths had spacesuits, tractor beams, and energy shields then this is what moths would do.

Cool sun lifter, that was well made!
It is more intense the closer you get.
You can limit the area of side shields by blocking with armor.
6 guys is the max a shield can use with large reactor: 18 power capacity = 6 x 3 power. The last couple of guys only work when shield fails completely. (Better to have more shields with less guys each if that's happening).
If you click the asteroid you csn have your ship maintain a set distance. I think you did this once.
Tractors pull the strongest at max range.
Can also make a ship to move asteroids without tractor if you make a big space in the middle where the asteroid sits. I did this and it worked fine. I think you get more thrust for limited crew BC tractor takes a lot to operate etc.
    GL!
Edit: also, if you make the shields a slight V shields extend a bit further sideways and cover others a bit more. Not sure if it's worth.

For your sun-diver's weapons, you could go with mining lasers. They can also be put behind the defensive front of the craft, but they don't stun your crew. Also they would let the sun-diver go out on its own and not need to be baby-sat by the Hercules for asteroid mining. Mining lasers are super short-range, but between star-proof shields and tractor beams, you should be able to close to firing range. If you have two tractor beams, you could even spin the enemies around to digest their vulnerable sides and back with sweet laser-venom. As an aside, if you go with this plan, you might want to see if you can get star-proof small shields since if you close to actually melee distance, your shields don't work, and it'd be nice to have some armor. I suspect that if you layer 6 forward-facing small shields adjacent to a large reactor (two in front and two along each side with the doors at the front and back edges of the reactor), they may be enough, though I don't own the game yet to test.

I'm a bit iffy on the forward shield modules for the DPR-4 you design at 29:11 . I think you have the right amount of crew and power, (probably even far more crew than needed) as well as distance from shields to reactor down fine, but it's the bunk positioning that I think can be optimized further. The way you have the bunks now, the crew have to travel a minimum of four tiles through the reactor at half speed to get from their bunk to the door of the shield generator closest to the bunk, and then one more tile into the shield generator room to deliver the battery. This is the best case scenario. Once they are there and there continues to be power demands, they will travel back and forth between the closet spot of the reactor and the shield generator tile, but if the generator ever fills even for a moment, the crew will begin to head back to their quarters before getting called back to duty and turning around.
The crew being those extra tiles distant to begin with means that there is a delay in initial response time after the shields start taking damage, and the crew sometimes returning to their quarters before turning around and continuing to supply power means there could be hiccups in your energy supply rate. It certainly seems like the power of a large reactor and the overwhelming amount of crew assigned to those quarters are easily offsetting the negatives of the placement for now, but if you start having trouble keeping the shields up, you should consider moving the bunks to the corners of the reactors closest to the shield generators. This would leave the crew with a two-tile trip to bring power to the shields for max response time and minimum possible variation in supply rate.

@Aavak, it's actually possible to copy/paste Crew Role Rosters. The hamburger menu right next to the re/undo buttons above the roster button has the option to save Crew Roles as your preferences. Then you can just load them (add to or replace) whenever you make a new ship.

A moth to the flame. I vote for a moth. Scarab is already a type of dung beetle.

We cant take dung beetle. Aavak you should LOVE this name for a ship, as you picked it for your first ship. A scarab is a dung beetle. The name is already taken.
(reading through dozens of comments im shocked that nobody seems to know this.)

I would like to suggest the "Khepri" in Egyptian mythology he is a scarab faced god. Represents the morning or rising sun. By extension represents creation. Oh depending on the version he also burrows into ra to revive him...

You can hold Z while giving ships a movement command and that will tell them to strafe rather than turn and fly, useful for this ship I think. Also I think Ikaros or Leafcutter would be good names for the DPR 4.

Naming it something like the bumblebee might work, since it brings goodies back to the "hive".
It also brings to mind the gif of a bee stealing a portion of someone's lunch, and would be a funny reminder of the time it got ship-napped.

I find it amusing that the artillery ship is named Scarab. 1997 Auron game Dark Reign featured the Imperium S.C.A.R.A.B. Self Contained Armored Ranged Artillery Battery

There is a ability to copy an entire ships crew setup to another ship.
On the ship you wish to apply the crew settings, go to the crew section "C", bottom left dropdown button allows you to set the default crew setup or copy/paste roles from another ship.

Waterspider. Think about it. It dives into somewhere other things of its kind usually don't survive. It grabs it and pulls it away to suck out it's juicy parts.

i learnt a trick from 'Nilaus' if you have rockets connected to an engine room, you only need to supply the engine room power and the rockets don't even need doors and the engine room will reload all conected rockets, even boosters get refueled, but if you have doors to the rockets the crew will fill the rocket, but if you got extra time for your crew to run around, by all means let them run free, just guess it might be helpfull for your 'Icarus"

The word you're looking for is probably "heliosphere". It's the volume around a star that gets pelted by the solar winds. While they are not outright destructive, they do have adverse effects on the passengers of vessels venturing outside of the protective magnetic fields of the earth. It is still one of the touchstones for human missions to Mars.

32:00 - You don't have to bury the thrusters in the ship for a sun diver. 45-degree ships have thrust off center but still protected by shields up front.
