I met her once. There’s something very mysterious and enigmatic about this woman: she’s had an incredible life from her fame at an early age to her escape from Romania and her life in the USA since then; and while she absolutely knows what her name means (she’s probably still the most famous gymnast in the world), she’s very humble about it and uses her fame for very good causes. She owns her celebrity but doesn’t brag about it. It’s a mixture of detachment, humility and natural strength. She’s fascinating.

Plus she has a banging body. Most 30 year olds would envy it. And other than maybe a probable breast lift, the only way to get a body that good is the old fashioned way. Liposuction won't do it. She works for that body. Nothing wrong with a little plastic surgery. So long as you get it done right and you don't go overboard.

She possesses the quintessential athleticism, attitude, disposition, personality and temperment to be, as Plato describes in his teachings of the ultimate forms, the ultimate champion. In a phrase, she held herself to a standard of perfection and it showed! Even in her commentary, she communicates with a sense of resolute urgency. I was 15 years old when I watched Nadia score her first perfect 10. She was absolutely the most graceful athlete I had ever seen. From that point on I was hooked on watching Gymnastics in the Olympics, which lead to watching Ice Skating. She is the only Olympian for which I never forgot her name, and often bragged to others, that I had never have seen a more perfect, more graceful illustration of incredible athleticism.

This wonderful athlete just stole my heart....Her own clinic for under served children and elders. Such an important gift that goes far beyond her wonderful performances in gymnastics. And so lovely that she and her husband are passing on their talents to other kids...whether their goals are to go to the Olympics, or just learn how to follow direction, have respect for your teachers and co-students, or learn to do a cartwheel. Lovely video, thank you!

Some athletes inspire a generation, but Nadia had _and still has_ a positive impact on generations of gymnasts and ordinary people all around the world. So many little girls born in the late 70s, early 80s were named Nadia in her honor. And so many girls started gymnastics after 1976!
I am from Montreal and the way she impacted our history is very special and hard to describe unless you lived it. Yes, she achieved something considered completely impossible, but it's so much more than that! It's almost as if she was an athlete from Montreal the way people are proud of her and love her here.
I remember meeting her at the Olympic facilities where she received her perfect scores and I was completely amazed at her down-to-earth & humble attitude, gratitude and generosity. She's a true inspiration for everything she has achieved in 1976, but even more for the work she did since then.

I had the biggest crush on Nadia during Montreal. We were the same age and in HS. She was so pretty but focused and humble. And she is the same today. So happy she married a wonderful guy in Bart Conner. Love you, Nadia!

My aunt met her and Nadia was nice enough to take pictures and sign autographs. Nadia had traveled north to see some of the rowing events. My aunt got to do some of stats for the 84 Olympics.

I glad that Nadia is doing so well. She deserves it; even more so considering that for a dozen plus years from 1977 to 1980 she was treated badly by the Romanian dictator and for a while after she defected. Nadia is a super star. Something about her performances are thrilling to watch more than any other gymnast. They are beautiful; sometimes the give me chills and other times bring tears to my eyes; emotions that are hard to describe. Nadia had success as an elite gymnasts and now she is successful as a wife, businesswoman, mother, and an one of the most outstanding citizens in two countries.

She trained people in my home state, in Oklahoma. They tried recruiting me by age 8. The only reason we didn’t more forward was because I had a single mom and their training costs, despite being the best in the world and totally worth it, wasn’t doable for us. I ended up with a spinal injury anyways and couldn’t progress. It would have been an amazing experience just the same.

I love this gymnast. Nadia was my childhood hero, I wrote my grade 8 speech on her. She went through a lot. I heard there was a lot of government interference in her career between 1976 and 1980. I respect her strength, resilience and grace.

When I was 10, I watched Nadia at the 1976 Olympics. I can only remember seeing her on the uneven bars for some reason. I admired her greatly. The last time I heard something about her was when she was married to a USA gymnast!
I had no idea that Nadia Comaneci had started a Children’s Clinic for the poor in Romania! I had never heard most of the good things she has done that I found out about in this video.
She strikes me as someone down to earth and even humble, especially given her fame.
Thank you for posting this and letting us find out about her life now.

You were meant to fly, Nadia! And you did!!
I remember as a young girl I watched you on tv, forgetting to breathe... then the whole family will jump up, screaming with joy!
Behind the block of flats where I was living, was a metal frame that people used for beating out the dust out of the carpets... and that was the place I will hang up and down, upside down, imagining for a second that maybe I can do what you did. Even though I couldn't... I loved it, it was so much fun and something to dream off
