The most memorable thing about Thorpedo for me is the smoothness of his stroke. It didn’t look like he was going fast at all because his strike was so calm. Meanwhile he’s in first and everyone else is flailing their arms and kicking furiously.

I was 10-years-old during the Sydney Olympics, the first summer Olympics I remember. As a little Canadian girl, Ian Thorpe was my hero. He was the reason I am such a fan of the Olympics. Thanks for the great memories, Mr. Thorpe.

This is the man that made me love swimming even more...During the 2000 and 2004 Olympics, I was already in my late 20's and early 30's. I've never missed watching Ian Thorpe's races on live TV. Crazy to think that Ian swam a 400m final, then on the same night anchored the 4 x 100 relay against Gary Hall Junior, who was the Caeleb Dressel of that era.
