- In this video I show you how you can remove and replace the Passenger right side CV Axle on a 2014 Ford Escape. It is very simple to do and you can do it at home yourself. The challenge for me was removing the lower control arm ball joint from the spindle. But you can do it.
I hope you find this video helpful. Please hit thumbs up and subscribe for more videos. Thank you for watching and Good luck! Cheers !!!
Thanks so much, bolt socket sizes helped immensely, couldn't find them anywhere!
Thanks!!! loved the video. Extremely appreciative!
You are WELCOME! I am glad it helped you! Good Luck !!! Thank you for subscribing! Cheers!
I replaced the control arm and got a new cv axle. The cv axle is loose currently because i had already replaced the cv and it went bad in a few days. The boot ripped and the cv looked elongated. Is it possible to have pushed the cv too deep into the transmission and have caused damage?
Ok, I followed the directions played out and finally got the control arm out of the pinch nut! I also had to keep adding WD40 and use a hammer to bang it back up into position a couple times back and forth before it finally came free. I may have damaged the ball joint but that's likely because I attempted to use a pickle fork first. Also the higher up you can get it outside of a lift the better. Getting under to position the axle back in and tighten the strap back on were difficult in a cramped space. Thanks for the video! On to the other side now...
Yeah man, the lower control arm was our biggest hangup. It was a pain to get out and a pain to get back in. Definitely the hardest part of the job
Dude I freaking hate these new vehicles. I got a 2014 1.6l ford escape NON-Awd...... Do I have a front differential or what? Is the front differential integrated with the transmission??? I want to drain and fill it but not a single video on doing the front diff. So I am stuck. Please help.
Thanks, I needed this, Turbo just shit the bed and I needed to get to it, apparently removing the CV is the easiest way to do it.
Thanks for the 'Play-By-Play'. It was informative....but maybe try using some light & stability in your videography. Otherwise, very good.
You are welcome and thank you! I am saving some $$$ for new lighting and to upgrade my camera. I am very glad that you found it helpful. Good luck!!!
I try to find the oil seal or sleeve type of this CV axle. anyone know?
excellent video
Awesome video
Is it the same job if its AWD or FWD
Mines just went out I got the same exact vehicle, I could hear some popping and slippage on the passenger side before it went out, was this the same issue with yours?
Both of mine were diagnosed as faulty. I could hear both side make clicking sounds when I turned the stearing wheel. The mechanic showed me by jacking up. Removing the tires and pulling in and out from the transmission case on the CC axle. They were both making this metal on metal clicking sound. I just replaced the passenger following this method and I no longer hear the clicking sound.
How come there are no videos on how to change cv axles for a 2017 escape? It’s completely different
It’s completely identical. What makes you think it’s any different. The only thing different about a 2014 Ford escape and a 2017 Ford escape is a little bit of rear end tail light difference and a front facia change. The suspension and axles from 2012 to 2019 are identical
Do you know how to replace the engine
Can someone advise the part number?
Just for anyone who's doing this on their own, I have the torque specs for each of the nuts/bolts that you removed to get to the CV axel:
1) Castle nut on inter tie rod - 46 lb ft.
2) Bolt/nut holding control arm into steering knuckle - 52 lb ft.
3) Bolts holding brake caliper onto knuckle - 90 lb ft.
4) Axel nut on outer end of CV axel - 210 lb ft.
5) wheel lug nuts - 100 lb ft.
You'll also want to get your alignment checked after doing this repair, since it involves the handling of front suspension parts.
Dude, thank you.
He just hammered the axle nut on with the impact gun out of sheer laziness.
Are both CV axles connected into the trans? Not familiar with FWD cars. My passenger CV axle has a leaking seal. Just had the trans rebuilt a month ago and all seals were replaced.
As far as I know, yes. I'm about to attempt the driver side after just finishing the passenger following this video. I didn't replace the seals though as they weren't leaking
i hope you put a new clip you did not show any of that part why?
Hey, what clip and where ?
The clip at the end of the cv where the splines are split that goes into the tranny. I am having a hard time with this exact issue your video does not help at all
@@stanfordwl what did you end up doing? Mine didn't have a clip there but my dad who is the mechanic of the family helped me and said that their should be a clip there
I'm looking at the bent up ball joint clip. I don't understand why it's there or how to remove it to spread the pinch joint. Guess I'll have to tear mine up too. Not much info on the net what's the deal?
Think the cv’s are the least of your worries 🤣
Use a light. Can't really tell where you pried.
I've been beating the back side of tbe shaft. No go.
Hey my car is making this clicking noise when I turn. Somebody told me I need a new cv joint. Lol so this may sound extremely stupid 😂 but is the cv axle and the cv joint the same thing 😂
Hello, that’s actually a really good question. To answer your question: yes, CV Axle and CV joint are the same thing when talking about the part itself. CV joint is part of the CV Axle which usually has 2 CV joints, but some people refer to it as CV joint, meaning CV Axle. So here sounds like your CV joint is going bad in you CV Axle, so you need to replace the whole CV Axle because the CV joint in it is bad. I hope this makes sense, nerdy answer I know, lol. So to make sure here is how to test for it: press on gas pedal and accelerate, if clicking noise goes up, then release gas pedal and just cruise at neutral and if clicking noise goes down or dissapears, that is definitely a CV axle problem. CV Axle is also know as CV half Shaft, or CV driveshaft. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
@@fixit3879 I think that's my issue, the nouse would get louder along with some shaking on the passenger side, when I let it cruise the shaking and noise would stop
@@steviej5283 same here with my vehicle
If I replace it would that vibration go away @fixit
Yep it was the CV axle on the passenger side, it finally went completely out and I replaced it.once it goes it will stop moving.
@@jsmith9573 yea it's most likely your axle, on mines it was the one on the passenger side, if you have the same symptom mines had then yes get it checked and find out which one is bad.
Looks a lot like my '15 Focus ...
An Escape is really just a Focus with a larger body. Most of the drivetrain is identical.
Curious... why not put a new axle in instead of used? You went to a lot of work.
That is a shit ton of rust.

If you'd smacked that steering knuckle 2 or 3 times w/ a hammer it would have came loose easily.
Wtf guy, focus on show put the new XV axel . Forget about the stupid socket size.
Ford turning into junk. We have the 13 escape with only 85k, just replaced entire tranny and this axle. Trading it for Honda Passport, through with Ford after being a ford fan all my life.
got a 2014 with 150K miles and im just now having to change the struts and front rotors
