Yakuza is probably one of the best series I have ever played. Everyone should give it a try. If you are a fan of Japan's culture (like me), you'll have a blast travelling through the streets of Kamurocho.
I've never tried a Yakuza game before and this review seems to make me interested in this more. The part about the extra side-quests of variation got me intrigued. Is this somewhat of a free-roaming game or what?
I know it’s been 4 years but if you somehow haven’t played any yakuza games then you really should get one the the games. I would recommend yakuza 0 for sure if you don’t really know the story that well as it serves as a prequel of sorts and was only made in 2015 I think.
@BigLebowski2000 yes those could sometimes get boring but Yakuza is also a RPG so you'll get random battles in Y4 too. But you could equip a shoe in Y3 that reduced the noise of you're footsteps and it increased those random battles A LOT :)
Been resisting playing most of this cause I played the first few minutes and almost instantly ordered Yakuza 3, I'm hoping Yakuza 3 arrives today cause its getting hard to resist this one jus sat on my shelf :)
alright i got 1 last locker key, e-3 , it said on ign's website that it is inside the NEW SERENA but when i go there, it says i need a membership, how the hell do get this one
free on ps+ , along with Thief . Both fantastic games. easily worth buying ps+ just for this month alone. Warning its fucking huge download tho.. think around 22gb
@Palmar3s i just beat yakuza 3 its very similar to shenmue but honestly i think this series is alot better and im really lookin forward to playing this game. You should give it a chance theres so much to do in these games and the story is amazing u will fall in love with it if u liked shenmue.
Yakuza is one of the few japanese game series that I like. It actually tries something new and different which is a rarity in japanese gaming now days.
@SirSpirituousXD The only site that has awesome video reviews is Gametrailers. They even gave Yakuza 4 an impressive 8.3/10 and they made me buy the game. When is saw IGN's review on that game i didn't want to buy it but after GT's review i bought it without second thought
l love these games, being a big shemue fan i feel these are like the spiritual successors,so much fun, plenty of game for your money and very japanese,i enjoy playing games made solely for a certain market.
This review was way better than the IGN one; rating this game a 6.5 is a disgrace to all gamers! This is the review to listen to, not IGNs. That is unless Classic Game Room HD reviews this game too, then that would be the review to listen to.
Finally a decent review that actually goes in depth instead of bashing the game because of its flaws! I have really enjoyed playing through the game! Shun Akiyama is definitely my favorite new character! Anyone that loves the yakuza franchise or Japanese culture on a whole won't be disappointed by this game!
@TheCommentGuy8 YES HE DID. He reviewed Y3 last year and said it was great and all and gave it an 8. Now that Y4 has all the original Japanese stuff in it, better story, more characters and fighting styles; he gives it a 6.5?? Makes no sense dude
@Iceking137 Yakuza 3 is a Japanese game, so not everyone is into it. I don't mind the random battles (which you can reduce by wearing a special shoe), reading text and stuff like that. If you are a fan of the first two you'll love 3. I think Y3 is one of the best games on the PS3 and the best thing about Yakuza is its GREAT GREAT story.
3 is the most pure yakuza game but this is the best one i think, the 4 characters make it slightly more fun and the fighting seems slightly faster, either way they're both cheap to buy now and both brilliant.
I saw this obscure gem on a GameStop shelf for $17. I was contemplating on buying it, but I wasn't so sure. After watching this review, I'm positive that it will be well worth the $17.
I just bought this game for 17 bucks and waiting for it to install. I can't wait to play looks like one of those games where you get sucked into the story
Two reasons. First you have the people shout "fuck ign I'm not watching their reviews anymore or "I'm unsubscribing". Yet they still go to the channel anyway giving ign more views. The second is ign usually reviews games early and people want to see some sort of review before buying certain games and they will get their views that way instead of taking their time and doing a well thought out review.
@Prygst I agree COD is the same every release. I think its very hard these days to come up with a completely new idea , but i was expecting more from yakazua because their idea is brilliant just not perfected.
Gamespot seem like much better gamers than IGN. Plus as has been said before their reviews are much better and that's not because of the score or anything like that. They just put much more effort into them and go into a lot more depth.
@WackoGun Believe or not they're are allot of people who actually like these games so you shouldn't generalize by saying WE'RE. If YOU don't like them then don't play them, hell I'm not that big on myself but there is a reason they keep making them, because their are people out who love the franchise as a whole.
Square-Enix and many other Japanese game developers should be taking a few notes from this game: If they want the Western audience attention, the first thing they should do is implement Japanese voice acting.
I love Yakuza. But goddammit I'd be lying if I said it wasn't irritating every time those stupid 'text box' conversations pop up after just watching an awesome scene play out. It can REALLY throw you out of a great scene that just happened. I wish they would completely drop the text box conversations.
awww I came here half expecting Sophia Tong shitting all over this game because of that one daily demo they did. O well I guess this is good too since I kinda like the game.
@vespers119 and reviews that aren't complete junk and nit pick at everything and giving even the poorest of games an average score. Gamespot seem to be a lot more balanced with their reviews in terms of opinions.
Wayyy better review than IGN
thats because you can;t spell ignorant without IGN...
R U CRAZY?! Wei Shen could NEVER kick Kazuma Kiryu's ass! Not in a million years!
damn this game is 21GB on PS3 I had to delete all my games on ps3 memory in order to download this
but w/e its Yakuza so
Me too.. Deleted Rainbow six vegas 2, Mirrors edge, dead or alive 5 and Driver san francisco....
Me too. I deleted Mass Effect,Battlefield 4 and splinter cell blacklist
Upgrade your hard drive to at least 500 gb like I did recently.
And i will delete everything just for yakuza 5❤️
I have 500 gb hard drive because it's 2015

i love this review
this is the first review that ive seen that gave this amazeing game the justice it diserved
Damn, just looked in to these games.. Looks fun as hell, love the environment and tone.
I know it’s been 4 years but if you somehow haven’t played any yakuza games then you really should get one the the games. I would recommend yakuza 0 for sure if you don’t really know the story that well as it serves as a prequel of sorts and was only made in 2015 I think.
One of the few sites that did great reviews of the Ps3 Yakuza games...
@BigLebowski2000 yes those could sometimes get boring but Yakuza is also a RPG so you'll get random battles in Y4 too. But you could equip a shoe in Y3 that reduced the noise of you're footsteps and it increased those random battles A LOT :)
@neotokyomedia I actually had no idea there was more then one Larry game, I only ever played the first one on PS2 I think. Thanks for heads up
Now this is a more rounded review, I'm glad to see that the Revelations are back.
@pedi007 I don't see this guy give this game any score in this video?
Great review Carolyn! One of the best additions to Gamespot after Gerstmann-gate.
Been resisting playing most of this cause I played the first few minutes and almost instantly ordered Yakuza 3, I'm hoping Yakuza 3 arrives today cause its getting hard to resist this one jus sat on my shelf :)
whats the name of the song from 5:32?
Does any1 know a good rpg for the PS3? :)
Bloodbourne
Gamespot really should give us more video reviews, they are pretty good.
alright i got 1 last locker key, e-3 , it said on ign's website that it is inside the NEW SERENA but when i go there, it says i need a membership, how the hell do get this one
@lloydy187 the first time ive heard of it was when they first annouced the NGP and they showed a demo of it on it
is it all in subtitles
Very well spoken reviewer. Good ol' Gamespot review quality!
I have never played any Yakuza games, but it looks like the new Shenmue huh? or not?
free on ps+ , along with Thief . Both fantastic games. easily worth buying ps+ just for this month alone. Warning its fucking huge download tho.. think around 22gb
Thief doesn't even come close to the greatness of Yakuza 4 or any Yakuza game for that matter.
+satellite964 right u are this is a PlayStation exclusive that's a must play
rub ber That was a good month for PSPlus :,)
+rub ber remember when we thought 22gb was a huge download? Good times.
@@babyboytheking4080 LMAO that's a Cyberpunk patch these days
@Palmar3s i just beat yakuza 3 its very similar to shenmue but honestly i think this series is alot better and im really lookin forward to playing this game. You should give it a chance theres so much to do in these games and the story is amazing u will fall in love with it if u liked shenmue.
can you get killed by tsunamis in this game?
watta bout the Crysis 2 review???? it coming out tomorrrrrrow
@mateomilano FORGET ABOUT LINEAR CORRIDOR XIII. I played it and it's one of the gaming decisions I have regretted the most.
I liked Yakuza 3, but I hated the forced random battles. Are they present in part 4 too?
What's the score? I'm in school atm.
youtube won't load. does anyone else have this problem?
The Batman games dumbed down combat in these open world games. Thankfully this one doesn't.
thankfully kazuma don't jump around like a ballerina to.batman combat feel like dancing yakuza like every kung fun movie ever
L
@TheKluesey Actually, 204mastermind was first. Now you've made 2 incorrect comments.
Yakuza is one of the few japanese game series that I like. It actually tries something new and different which is a rarity in japanese gaming now days.
can u use katarnas :D
@GameXplorer7191 You really hate Yakuza that much? Is it that bad?
@SirSpirituousXD The only site that has awesome video reviews is Gametrailers. They even gave Yakuza 4 an impressive 8.3/10 and they made me buy the game. When is saw IGN's review on that game i didn't want to buy it but after GT's review i bought it without second thought
does the table tennis mini support PS MOVE?
LOL
Now THIS is a review of YAKUZA 4.
Flawless! As the game is, too!
Incredible and endless game. Finished the main campaign in 29 hours with only 5% of the game explored and completed. EPIC!!!
@TheGreenMissile what are you talking about
@pedi007 Yep you hit it on the mark. The sad thing is they praised Yakuza 3 when it came out. It got a 8.5
Akiyama's kicks are beast.
very nice, any game out there for PS3 better than this? (in the same category)
Thank you for not rushing through a review to meet a deadline and paying the game the respect it deserves.
l love these games, being a big shemue fan i feel these are like the spiritual successors,so much fun, plenty of game for your money and very japanese,i enjoy playing games made solely for a certain market.

Did you say corrupt cop?
Finally a decent review that actually goes in depth instead of bashing the game because of its flaws! I have really enjoyed playing through the game! Shun Akiyama is definitely my favorite new character! Anyone that loves the yakuza franchise or Japanese culture on a whole won't be disappointed by this game!
I'm never watching another IGN review again
gamespot always has more in depth reviews than ign.
@TheCommentGuy8 oops sorry I was talking about IGN. My bad... This review was really good actually
@TheCommentGuy8 YES HE DID. He reviewed Y3 last year and said it was great and all and gave it an 8. Now that Y4 has all the original Japanese stuff in it, better story, more characters and fighting styles; he gives it a 6.5?? Makes no sense dude
after all this criticism about IGN why don't they just stop reviewing so people don't miss out absolute masterpieces!
@Iceking137 Yakuza 3 is a Japanese game, so not everyone is into it. I don't mind the random battles (which you can reduce by wearing a special shoe), reading text and stuff like that. GAMESPOT IS THE ONLY FAIR REVIEW SITE IN THE DAMN WORLD.... YAYYYYYY GAMESPOT FOR SHOWING MASTERPIECES FOR WHAT THEY ARE
I saw this obscure gem on a GameStop shelf for $17. I was contemplating on buying it, but I wasn't so sure. After watching this review, I'm positive that it will be well worth the $17.

@ChriswithMatt Thank God you didn't say first :)
Who names these reviewers???
@RanMatFri In a sense yes.
@nklshaz I'm sorry, I just can't type fast enough:P
cant wait to see gamespot's review of Crysis 2
i think their revews are better than ign cus in the VIDEO reviews they dont give scores
@TheCheesecakeofdoom
that's the fifth game.
dont wanna see them fight each other, want to see them fight together against others. that would be epic
that guy sounds like michael cera and jessie eisenberg
can u drive cars help me?
Who else during Tanimuras Police Scanner Suicide Jumper call likes to throw them off the roof during battle?
Two reasons. First you have the people shout "fuck ign I'm not watching their reviews anymore or "I'm unsubscribing". Yet they still go to the channel anyway giving ign more views. The cops voice actor is enough to make me buy this. That and minus the orphan crap; y3 was damned good!
It's funny how when they were fighting their face seems casual
@solidkevinx Your missing out on an awsome story man, Im really enjoying this one :)
If Tekken 6's Scenario Campaign mode was as deep as Yakuza 4 it would have been a better game.
@Prygst I agree COD is the same every release. I think its very hard these days to come up with a completely new idea , but i was expecting more from yakazua because their idea is brilliant just not perfected.
My all time favourite game
@megamanEXE502 yup. This is a SEGA game so.... yeah
im sorry but didnt japan got into a crisis mode?
cuz yakuza 4 still hasnt hit stores on my country
Gamespot seem like much better gamers than IGN. Plus as has been said before their reviews are much better and that's not because of the score or anything like that. They just put much more effort into them and go into a lot more depth.
thats 8 out of 10 ladies and gentlemen
@WackoGun

I could never figure out why the first game was with English voice actors but the rest used Japanese voice actors. Sega couldn't afford to hire them?
So this is what Zero from San Andreas is doing now. Reviewing video games.
@TheGravitationist
Oh, my mistake then.
@TheGreenMissile he's asian, you mean he was taking a closer look to see if he really has anything there lol
just kidding Akiyama is a BEAST
wheres the arcade shooter
@limitsora69 I would say that wanting to be a he-she would be a valid point to judge someone's characteristics on.
@StephenMcManus2K10 lol yea it would
@MrJohnHo i do own both ;)
I love Yakuza. But goddammit I'd be lying if I said it wasn't irritating every time those stupid 'text box' conversations pop up after just watching an awesome scene play out. How good is it compared to yakuza 3?
3 was amazing :D
"a loan shark that charges no interest"
wait, what?
awww I came here half expecting Sophia Tong shitting all over this game because of that one daily demo they did.
O well I guess this is good too since I kinda like the game.
@StephenMcManus2K10 yea me either i just have a job its nothing special but im just saying its worth having both thats all
Compared with this, how can Mortal Kombat be banned in Australia...
aha I love this game..so glad japan featured the mini-games this time for it..
@GameXplorer7191 thats the point of the game its an action rpg, if you want gunplay buy Dead Souls.
at 2:55 i thought he was beating up Beetlejuice
@vespers119 and reviews that aren't complete junk and nit pick at everything and giving even the poorest of games an average score.
Gamespot seem to be a lot more balanced with their reviews in terms of opinions.
