I want to play Catherine but at the same time I'm afraid that I will be too frustrated on the puzzel-platforming and possibly not finishing the game because of that :/
I remember buying this used at game stop, never having heard of it or anything and playing it with my GF at the time, and boy was we both surprised! She loved the story and basically forced me to finish the game even tho it was really difficult 😅 it was a good time
you feel the stress alright...trying to solve those damn puzzles. My god i was having dreams about those damn things. Thank god I finished that game. Loved the story to death, it speaks to me very much so , the puzzles were brutal.
Oh thank god! I honestly thought I was the only one! I would be sitting in class while my teacher is lecturing and my mind would be flooded with endless thoughts of pushing and or pulling blocks.
I like how the game reviewers like to complain how hard this game is when compared to most puzzle games it really isn't. Also, the reason why the multiplayer isn't unlocked until you beat the game is because the creators wanted the player to know how the mechanics work completely before playing with a friend, besides the multiplayer mode is said to be much harder than the actual story mode
what are some games that are like this? I got Portal 2 when it first came out but just recently beat the co-op by myself (only other person is my little sister and she doesn't understand the concept) so now i'm out of puzzle-ish games. This looks awesome, but also was looking for more ideas
I dont like puzzle games or anime, but im a few stages into this and Im pretty hooked. The story and characters really keeps me intrigued. Definitely one of the sleeper hits of 2011.
Miner Spoiler Loved the game for the most part. My biggest complaint would be that no matter how far you sway on the freedom/order meter, the only things that change are his internal dialogue and the very end of the game. The game is worth multiple playthroughs for the puzzles alone, but the story gets too redundant to want to play through for all the endings. Not to mention certain plot points hinted at, but never fleshed out.
PS+ Got it for 3 months... £11.99... Got this, BF3 tomorrow as i sold my disc, Payday the Heist which looked like a good game when I played it on trial, Ico and SOTC. Which was an old time favourite and Uncharted 3 which I somehow missed yet played the other 2!! Love it!!!!!!! :D
I just finished playing the demo for this and I want this game but it doesn't gimme the option to download it from the marketplace (for Xbox 360) is it because I'm in Florida? ;(
I was happy with my ending, even though its not supost to be the "True" ending... I just answered honestly. Its cool you can check other players answers too. Oh btw while it SAYS its a 1player game, there is a 2player mode after you beat the game. Which is pretty fun, no Online mode though which would have made this game get a score of 9.9... for a 10.0 It requires at least a nipple shot of catherine COME ON! D: You tease!
@poohasreturn Buddy, are you sure that Us version is region free?. Where have read this?....can you give a link, in private message where is clean explained that it is region free?.
It's really not that hard, it's just that unlike most games(which have similar or identical control schemes, mechanics, level designs and so on), Catherine actually gives you things to learn. In an era where most games are so same-y, maybe the challenge of having to actually learn something for once does come across as "OMG so hard!", but IMO that's not a problem with this individual game, it's a problem with the complacency of both gamers and developers and the industry at large. This is why I never have anything to play these days because, to me, learning in games is the fun part. If there's nothing to learn, then there's little or no fun to be had. Think about the first time you played Mario. You were in an inquisitive mind set, you pressed the "A" button to see what it did, and he jumped! There, you learned something, and it was absolutely delightful, right? Then you walk to the right a little, an enemy comes walking towards you so you panic and apply your newly learned jumping knowledge to jump over it, only you accidentally hit those blocks that were above head and a mushroom came out, with the block forcing you quickly back to the ground and making you squash the enemy. That's learning, that's delightful. You try to dodge the mushroom, but it unexpectedly bounces off the pipe, comes back to you, and makes your character grow in size whilst giving you extra HP, again, this is absolutely delightful and surprising precisely because you are learning. And this is what modern games are lacking, and it's what Catherine can provide. In this way, I think it reminds people of those old NES games, thus they come to the conclusion that Catherine is hard as balls when it isn't. It's just that it's not "Military Shooter Number 3billion and Six". Your knowledge from every other game on the market doesn't really apply here. It's a new system for you to learn and master, and there's just nothing more valuable than that in games, IMO. SO happy to see that they're remaking this masterpiece.
Right, and after 10 minutes, there's nothing else to learn. Meaning the fun of a new game lasts for 10 minutes, for me. But the learning usually comes down to "Oh, the duck button is usually Circle, but they've changed it to R3, so I'm going to have to get used to that" lmao whereas the kind of new stuff that I want, is a new way of thinking about games. New strategies, new problems to solve. Like Catherine here, which nothing else is quite like. It's a new way to play, a new way to strategize. Or look at Bayonetta, there is nothing else like it. Dodge offset, Witch Time, Beast Within, man, by combining offense and defense and melding them into one, this all provides the player with a new way to think and to strategize, thus there's plenty to learn because there's nothing else like it. And come on, I'm not even going to bother debunking that last part. Be honest with yourself. And man, you say "people don't like hard games because life is hard enough", but 1) People do love being challenged, in life, and in games, 2) If your life was so hard, you would need a challenging game to fully capture your attention and take your mind off it. A "relax em up", which most games are these days, doesn't work. There's too many mentally blank spaces in "relaxing" games to take your mind off of it, so that's BS, and a fine piece of sophistry.
This is a wonderful game and extremely rewarding...IF you can stick with it's sadomasochistic difficulty for hours on end, with the reward being your own personal perseverance. Happy climbing!
@satoruuuu1 You need to check up on recent events. Things have changed and actually the PS3 has been getting more DLC since 2010. Microsoft is still favored by Activision because the majority of the shooter fans are still on the 360. The 360 used to have more RPG's but no longer. First of all the market for JRPGs isnt even on the 360. I dread to see the 360's Catherine sales compared to the PS3. The games that Microsoft has had in the bag are FPS titles and music games like Rockband.
@Nemesis958 Just today they got a publisher for PAL regions....I can't wait because I was going to import it, I'll just wait now though....Gah!! looks so good!
@gunsite308 There's nothing really "porny" about the game really. You get some fanservice from Catherine from time to time, but most of the other story bits are legitimately mature. Not porn mature, but marriage v. bachelorhood or attraction v. actual love or freedom v. order kind of mature. It's like if a midlife crisis were to be made into a game. A midlife crisis involving getting drunk and sleeping with another chick. It really is an interesting way to look at relationships.
I like the demo on PS3, but it was way way way to hard even on easy (it is taking all the fun of the game), have they correct this now when it is released in europe?
Catherine isn't shit. If you don't like puzzle games, don't judge a puzzle game. You could leave a bad impression on someone who enjoys a game that makes them THINK!
@theravenflow sorry I dont look at sales everyday. I just gave my feel on what I feel is happening. BTW I live in Japan so I know that Catherin sold more the ps3. That dont mean the xbox 360 dont have more rpgs. When I say dlc not talking about cod , just every damn game . But I dont want this to turn into a ps3 vs xbox war , enjoy your gaming.
@theravenflow That's really true ,I own a PS3 and 360, if it weren't for the fact that I liked the packing artwork for the 360 Version more, I would have bought the PS3 version
@remoteless05 haha, its great isnt it? i felt the same way back in 07' when i tried the phoenix wright series for the first time. THEYRE EVEN MORE AMAZING THAN CAHTERINE, trust me. if anything, those worth getting a ds for. (or get em for the wii or the iphone. there might be an android version also, or just download an emulator. its worth it, trust me!)
@EPICsliceOFcake Try the game, it's not just the anime style. It's a breath of fresh air from all the other boring american games. When is the last time you see an american puzzle game that is so great and both storytelling and gameplay. Trust me, get the game and you'll be amazed.
@MelodyPlayback Hey im 14 and i love this game. Of course im a mega nerd, and i actually USE MY BRAIN AND PAY ATTENTION TO STORY OF GAMES... unlike most of my friends
I don't get these Japanese games that get away with things that no one else would. If this game didn't have an anime style, no body would give 2/10 of a shit about it.
@TheAssassin56 Thats because the western audience are conditioned to only respond to competitive multiplayer shooters. This is why the 360 is doing so well an all the games that do so well on it. This game wont do so well on that console.
@TheBansheeBomb Games are entertainment and if they can mix an excellent story and great gameplay (i'm not just talking about this game only) i dont get why are you complaining
well i found the game hard on normal and even harder on hard and since you said it took you less then 10 hours that led me to believe that you played on easy either that or you did not experiance the full game and skipped most of things you do in the bar. i think you would have liked it less if i assumed you didnt play the full game the developers made
@cyber0nemesis Dont understand why you would like a game where the story is the most important thing if you dont like Anime. Most Animes are about awesome storytelling and characters.
I'll play this after I move out of my parents house
honestly one of the best games on the last gen. underrated GEM
This is one of the most addictive games I've ever played!A leftfield gem.More developers take note....Originality is a GOOD THING!!
I want to play Catherine but at the same time I'm afraid that I will be too frustrated on the puzzel-platforming and possibly not finishing the game because of that :/
StarSeeker94 I feel u
*Sissy*
@@Dadee3 How mature
@@mikeanderson1370 *Yes, very!*
I remember buying this used at game stop, never having heard of it or anything and playing it with my GF at the time, and boy was we both surprised! She loved the story and basically forced me to finish the game even tho it was really difficult 😅 it was a good time
yes you can, that's why there are 12 possible endings depending on how you answer the questions
you feel the stress alright...trying to solve those damn puzzles.
Oh my god I know man. It was outrageous. I do not miss the puzzles for now but they need to do a sequel. I would love another challenge.
When was Vivaldi's "Summer" in the game? I don't remember it playing.
@WildBillie No clue because it's not in Catherine.
@vasanthva19 it's actually summer, 3d movement - storm
Thank you Japan for showing us that not every game needs to be a fucking fps to be good.
what are some games that are like this? I got Portal 2 when it first came out but just recently beat the co-op by myself (only other person is my little sister and she doesn't understand the concept) so now i'm out of puzzle-ish games. This looks awesome, but also was looking for more ideas
kamera or camera? XD
This game almost destroyed my sister and my relationship! We kept yelling at eachother during the nightmares!!!
I dont like puzzle games or anime, but im a few stages into this and Im pretty hooked. The story and characters really keeps me intrigued. Definitely one of the sleeper hits of 2011.
Did you ever beat the game? And did you ever get into any puzzle games or anime since?
Miner Spoiler

For those looking for the music, it's Vivaldi's Four Seasons - Winter. Thumbs up so people can see.
PS+ Got it for 3 months... £11.99...

@JoonStudios =( still want to know the music lol

@poohasreturn Ok, but us version is playable on pal 360 console?.
whats the soundtrack of the game in this review?
I like how factual and descriptive these reviews are so I can make a decision based on my own tastes rather than the reviewers
@LuckyLokiLuko dude you only have to play through the game 3 times to get all 9 endings and its worth it
Its not on games on demand yet :(
What is the classical music at the end of this review?
+Charlie C Vivaldi Violin concerto "the four seasons" - The winter
Is american release to 26 July, is it comapatible with pal 360?.
This would be a perfect game if it was just cutscenes.
I can kind of see her saying "KINGS GAME!" in a drunken voice.
is the game still worth buying if the saw the walkthough but never played it
@LifeFirst You dont need an Xbox 360. Its also on the PS3. The 360 doesnt have any really exclusivses outside of Gears this year.
the hardest part of this game is Rapunzel. i was always able to get past story missions eventually but i cant even get past level 4 in rapunzel
I was happy with my ending, even though its not supost to be the "True" ending... I just answered honestly. Its cool you can check other players answers too. @TheBansheeBomb Or you can have both. In fact, I'd prefer to have both, rather than one or the other.

I'm sorry but am I the only one who saw the GIANT ASS MONSTER BOSS??!!!?!

i don't get why this is rated M for nudity, when there is no real nudity.
Because it's suggestive and sexual, it doesn't necessarily need to be actual nudity.
@kiashadowwave and i had trouble managing 2 even without the nightime creepy sheep puzzles, god knows how he managed :p
this game isnt hard it only has some parts that dont let u thru like blocks

Chill man, he was being sarcastic. it was a joke O.o
Im just glad Jody isnt in this video :)
Hmmm....i'll buy it but not play it....play it after several years

@TheXenogearsV just google it, all ps3 games are region free.
Dammit...I might just have to get a a XBOX to play this game.

looks like ill get this game and place it next to demon's souls which i've yet to finish lol
great story
@marioretar Its a Puzzle game i dont see the survival horror.
Its a Good Game, but i was expecting something else..
@LastLegalDrug2 apparently you
