Did you try to remove gluten completely from their diet? The only reason I ask is because I've been a very sickly person for years and my digestion was wrecked, the one single thing that I've done that changed everything and improved my health and digestion was removing gluten, and it happened quick I'm talking 3 to 5 months I was almost a completely new person. I'll never eat gluten again. What I meant to say was it's the one single thing that worked out of hundreds of things that I've tried. Diets, fasting, supplements Etc...
I studied medicine and fought with others about why they continued to prescribe folic acid to people with mutations like myself. What you're stating now is exactly what I fought about for years "if we have this mutation it means we cannot metabolize it, hence it will result like poison for us". I didn't take any because of that, despite the fact that I trusted them years before., I did take it, and the outcome was as expected: I felt awful. People start taking loads of worthless and deadly medicines as soon as they find out they have this mutation, and they also push their offspring to take them., which, In my opinion, it's a disaster. Unfortunately, metafolate did not work for me either.
I lost 7 years of my life due to no one looking into my MTHFR mutations or piecing this puzzle together. I had aching joints, severe exhaustion, depression and insane anxiety, speech loss and dysphasia, major b12, vit d and testosterone deficiencies, liver distress due to no glutathione production, led to ferritin over 1500 and a blown thyroid! I was so so so so sick. I started addressing each issue individually, took all matters in my own hand and figured it out. Literally 2-3 days after taking high methylated vitamins almost all symptoms started to go away almost immediately. I still require synthetic thyroid meds and testosterone, I avoid any processed food and I have honestly cried everyday for having the opportunity to have a second chance at life. I'm 46, I was basically a weak useless man and unable to be a real father. I am now back, working out daily, eating well and I wake up everyday with so much gratitude. Keep fighting and take your health into your own control along with a team if you can find them. My love and support to anyone who has endured chronic health and pain! Thank you Dr Berg, you have no idea that your information literally saved my life.
Folic acid is synthetic 🧪 and used in supplements and fortified foods, while folate is the natural form found in foods like leafy greens 🥬. Both are important for health, but some people absorb them differently!
Methylfolate A naturally occurring form of folate that has undergone a chemical reaction to make it more bioavailable, meaning the body can absorb and use it more easily. Methylfolate is the primary active form of folate in the body.
I happened upon your videos two weeks ago after a visit to a nutritionist as I am 62 and want to lose weight to prevent diabetes and get the load off my joints. There's obscure research dating back almost 20 years that connect folic acid (not folate) to regeneration of the hair cells responsible for hearing. This connection was triggered by research on the way birds, especially loud birds like parrots, are repeatedly destroying their hair cells due to their loud noises and then regenerating the hairs. A plausible folic acid role was noted. A 2007 study of a small set of elderly subjects found that folic acid may play a role in reducing or even reversing hearing loss due to aging. I've been taking 20mg (yes, 20,000mcg!) folic acid daily for more than three years, and at age 72, am the only one of my siblings without the need of a hearing aid. (My hearing tests show only a modest drop of the higher frequencies, less than what is normally associated with aging.) A more recent study suggested that 5mg or more daily may increase the incidence of colon cancer; all my colonoscopic exams have remained polyps-free. This study did not take into consideration other supplementation that may be colon-protective; there needs to be more studies that take a more wholistic approach to assessing nutrient supplementation, as no single nutrient is able to function on its own. As the folic acid seems to be of benefit and there are no apparent side effects, I'm making the presumption that my physiology has figured out how to use it efficiently and effectively. BTW, I take a Chinese OTC brand of folic acid; 100 5mg tablets costs 9. That's 9 yuan, or about USD $1.30!
Cancer is/are parasites such as worms, syphilis and candida. Alkaline stomach creates perfect environment for parasites. 1000mcg Folic acid per day prevents stroke 100%
@@jamesoommen I just summarized; my family genes suggest I'll be actively wearing out my pants well into my 90s (my father died at age 91 from an acute case of job hunting!). I am comparing myself to my similarly aged siblings and cousins, all of whom depend on hearing aids for their everyday activities. I happen to be a composer, and as I lack the mastery that was possessed by Mozart and Beethoven, I consider it necessary to do what I can to preserve my hearing. With that in mind, I've also been following Berg's "healthy" keto diet for a couple of years, so its not just the folic acid; as previously suggested, everything ultimately works together. 😉

At times my girlfriend is frustrated by the amount of times in a week she’ll hear me utter; “Dr. Berg suggests…” 😅😂
Wow this has really made me think. I have been prescribed 5mg folic acid due to my age trying to conceive but I have had infertility problems but I have carried on taking this 5mg for really long time. What dose of folate would be the equivalent to the 5mg folic acid? Wow this really has made me want to stop this right away!

So when I was pregnant I decided to eat all my vitamin needs instead of taking a pregnancy vitamin pill. I ate loads of avocados, lentils, octopus, meat and vegetables. I tried to find foods high in folate for the first three months and ate extra virgin olive oil every day. Now I’m trying for another and am a lot older and feel nervous about doing that again because of the pressure to take folic acid, even though my child has turned out healthier and better developed than anyone I know. My question then is, is eating folate rich foods and high iron foods enough when pregnant instead of taking food acid? I did start taking a folate supplement but stopped as unsure it was the right thing to do because started reading you should eat folate AND take folic acid for pregnancy… so now I’m confused!!
So I take Rx folic acid. It's supposed to prevent hair loss from my chemotherapy drug called methotrexate that I take for rheumatoid arthritis. Is that 1mg of folic acid considered a high enough dose to be dangerous?

Hello Dr. Berg I found these articles you shared very interesting, however, none of them correlate autism with the use of folic acid. When you make an impactful and frightening comment that the use of folic acid would increase the risk of autism by 17 times, you should, at the very least, also provide robust evidence to justify such a statement. Furthermore, you talk about folic acid as if only it were synthetic. Methyl folate (Levomefolate calcium salt and Levomefolate magnesium salt) is as synthetic as folic acid. Both are produced by the same pharmaceutical industry…
I had the same reaction with skin rash that was itching, with other simptome like heart palpitations, increased irritability, could not sleep for 2 days. I stop taking the prescribed Folic acid and all the simptome disappeared.

Im pregnant, so what is the right amount for folic acid and folate to take? Right now, I'm taking prenatal vitamins Pure Synergy with 800mcg DFE Folate (as 360 mcg L-5 MTHF & 120mcg folic acid)
Telling people to supplement folic acid or folate is quite a unresponsable claim. Sure, it is better to take folate then folic acid, because folic acid enters the body nearly unregulated. But even folates themself are a riskfactor in terms of cancer and other deseases. Thats why anti-folate get used in therapy of those. That aside, eat healthy, the body than takes the necessary amount folate needed.
What does it mean when we see Folate 1333 mcg dfe( folic acid 800 mcg)? Does it mean this is natural form of folate or it's just folic acid( synthetic form)? Thanks!
That's my question too. I just came home with a bottle that says just that, and then watched this video. Now wondering if I'm the 70% without the gene problem. I'm still going to at least finish my new bottle.
Hi, I hope you can answer my question, I just found your video and I’m thankful I did. Now my Question is, can I take both , because my Prenatal vitamin already has Folic acid in it, can I take a separate supplement of Folate as well ? And if I can , how much do you recommend? Please and thank you 🙏🏽

When I took methylfolate, I felt bad and upset, I tried it several times with the same reaction. My brother had the same reaction too. I broke the tablet and took the smallest amount of it and was able to tolerate it. We also take methylcobalamin. Why would we have this reaction?

DANG! Can we ever win? Every time you think you got one lil thing figured out 5 other things have to be addressed. UGH!
I have Crohn’s. I’m on a drug called methotrexate. I’ve been advise to take folic acid 🤷🏻♂️
Dr. Berg appreciate you taking the time to educate us. Along with eating as clean as poss, maintaining an active lifestyle, & minimizing stress, your insight has kept me away from doctors who are quick to prescribe medication galore.
Any recommendation where I can buy methylfolate? 🙏
Blessings Dr Berg 🙋🏾♀️

Dr. Berg I suffer from seizures. I take keppra 1000mg and lumictal 150mg BID including OTC folic acid with these meds. What are your suggestions? Can you please advise. Thanks !
I read somewhere that magnesium helps with seizures. Some people reported it stopped them all together or greatly lessened the frequency of episodes.
Thank you so much .
@@saidachase you are most welcome. I pray it works for you.🙏
I really appreciate it, it's for my daughter I try to do a reaserch for her & is very hard to deal with her , I try to put her on keto diet she refused, she has a child I have to take care of her and her child.
@saidachase your daughter is simply selfish and not helping matters. Why would she refuse to get on a better diet or atleast help herself. Look at you here doing what she's supposed to be doing. To make matters worst, a baby had a baby. I feel bad for you. Smh 🤦🏽♀️
Thanks Doc for your information

Please make a video on how to gain weight without eating junkfood or fastfood for underweight people. One of my friends she is 5'7 height but her weight is 40kg. No health issues her age is 29
So when I was pregnant I decided to eat all my vitamin needs instead of taking a pregnancy vitamin pill.
Sounds like you did it right the first time and don’t need to doubt yourself. Congrats on your pregnancy. 🥰
So I take Rx folic acid. It's supposed to prevent hair loss from my chemotherapy drug called methotrexate that I take for rheumatoid arthritis. Is that 1mg of folic acid considered a high enough dose to be dangerous?
Hello. For individuals with prescription medications, we suggest consulting a medical doctor first before taking any dietary supplements.

Thanks for asking that question. I have the same issue and this came up and it scared the crap out of me. I have RA and have been on it for a little while and still getting meds added on. So annoying that we can't just get a simple answer to help us. Thankful to Dr. Berg.
Thank you. Please comment on SAM-e ? I used it for years to help my liver and joint pain. When I stopped it seems there's more issues now?

Hello Dr. Berg
I found these articles you shared very interesting, however, none of them correlate autism with the use of folic acid.
Hi what do you think its better to take folic acid or mythlfolate?
@@תמירגולדנר-ג5ט to eat real food… food is always better 💚 green leaf vegetables, lentils, liver etc…
I was prescribed Folic for R.A. ,but I broke out with a skin rash that reminded me of poison I've, so I stopped talking it !😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
I had the same reaction with skin rash that was itching, with other simptome like heart palpitations, increased irritability, could not sleep for 2 days. I stop taking the prescribed Folic acid and all the simptome disappeared.
@Helene Vion apparently for some people is not a poison, only for people like me, ultrasensible. I do not know what to say about it, as I am not a doc. I only noticed the weird reactions and stopped taking the prescribed Folic.
Is there something to take to reverse any damage from folic acid vs folate?

Hi Doctor, when you say way too much folic acid? Is there a range? Thanks!

I have hashimotos and tried to take folate and it made me feel bad and messed up my thyroid levels.any advice? Ty

Please and thank you 🙏🏽
Great piece of information! Thank you so much!❤
Certainly!
What about Methylated folate vs folate.
A lot of the newer pregnancy supplements have Methylated folate. Is it better to take regular folate?
is 60mcg follic acid in a multivitamin safe to take daily ?
I have 2 copies of the Bad MTHFR gene meaning I don't detox by 70-80% compared to most. I take all Methylated B vitamins. I had Toxiema with all of my pregnancys and looking back, I understand why.
Hydrogen is good

I've been taking 3000mg of grass fed beef liver for the past 3 or 4 months and my lab results show my b12 at 86 and the PA said my folate is real low but can't find it in the lab work. How can that be? Plus I take a b complex with Myth b12 added which is about 66mcg daily. What up? I also take HCL and acv with my meals. I have more BM's a day than I've ever had in my whole life. Could the lab have messed up my blood? I mean I feel tired and dizzy but I deal with stress and ear stuff but I also have teeth that need to come out bc they are decayed that could be causing the ear stuff and dizziness. Labs also show my white blood cells are really low. Haven't been sick with even a cold in almost 6 years then suddenly the ear stuff started about 2 months ago. Doesn't make sense.
I just found out that I have two different mthfr mutations. I had two tragic miscarriages this year after my husband and I got married. I have the 677ct mutation that is mentioned in this video, and the 1298ac mutation.
Great education, subscribed... but you gotta reduce the amount of 3 quarter speed stock footage you edit in. It's distracting, and detracts from the message.
Highly recommend the book Dirty Genes by Ben Lynch
i am talking about this exact fact in my lectures in embryology
Is THORNE basic prenatal is safe?? I think it has the same folate you are talking about. Just confirm it
Butter on all veg to help absorb the vitamins??
Or use extra virgin olive oil (cold pressed)
When I took methylfolate, I felt bad and upset, I tried it several times with the same reaction. My brother had the same reaction too. I broke the tablet and took the smallest amount of it and was able to tolerate it. We also take methylcobalamin. Why would we have this reaction?
You could be an under methylator or over methylator , for instance , producing too much methy groups can lead to anxiety and hyperactivity .
Same thing happens to me. See my comment at the top of the comments now.
