fantastic advice. it was just what I needed to find out about. Thanks
+tinker berns You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Would cork or rubber washers be good to add? And does permatex make sealer for this?
No, this is the best and only thing you ever want to use.
Thanks Matt, this was very helpful! I have to unloosen all my motor mounts so can tilt the motor to get my teleflex cable out on a straighter line for a new rack and pinion system. It looks like the top two transom bolts are siliconed, so once scraped off, should I just lightly sand with 400-600? Maybe the bilge bolts are the same, but can's see behind the washers.
You gotta get all that silicone off the bolts. I use acetone. This stuff won't seal over old silicone.
@@MattsShop I know you’re busy, but thanks so much for such a fast reply and the tip for using acetone, so I’ll hit the subscribe button! One other question, I know your recommendation for the 3M 4200 is what you prefer, but I already have a new tube of Loctite marine sealer (fast cure) that was suggested and it’s supposed to work just fine according to prior use for the transom bolts and other below waterline mounting holes and such?
Great info thanks. Want to seal screws and holes in the transom where a shop installed a new transducer. Doesn't look like they used sealant on the screws. Was wondering 5200 or 4200. 4200 Fast Cure it is!
4200 fast cure! 5200 will rip the gel coat off if you try to remove it in the future!!!
Very informative, thank you
You're welcome!
good video man thanks
Brian Mccullough You're welcome thanks for watching!
What about for through hull screw holes from a transducer on an aluminum boat? 4200 or 5200?
4200 UV. 5200 is for building boats. 4200= sealant
5200= adhesive
@@MattsShop will the 4200 also work fine to seal and rivet the old transducer mounting holes aswell?
If its permanent use 5200. I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to do
@@MattsShop I bought a new boat. They took off their transducer and there are 4 screw holes that need to be filled. I was going to use marine JB weld and aluminium rivets to fill those holes. Then drill new holes for my transducer mount. Then use 4200 for those screws. Or use 4200 and rivets instead on JB weld on the holes.
Any way you said will work. Just make sure you get 4200 UV fast cure if you get it. The non-fast cure stuff takes 7 days to cure. It is really runny so if you think you are going to seal a hole like silicone it's going to drip all over the place.
All around the bracket is not pointless. It absorbs an amount of vibrations of the engine. It just needs a thin line thought not too much. Behind the bracket not in the outer line.
Yea, It's there for a reason. Thanks for the info.
Welcome mate.
Lifecalk is preferable to 4200. But good advice on not using 5200
I'm pretty sure Lifecalk is Silicone based. I am not a fan of silicone on boats at all though that's why I recommended 4200 Fast Cure.
Matt's Shop Lifecalk is a polysulfide. It has the added benefit of being flexible, more so than 4200, and resistors chemicals like gasoline better. It’s also resistant to sunlight which 4200 has issues with
Matt's Shop Oh, and no - not silicone based
I never knew that alcohol will affect the cure. Good to know.
Yea, I rembered by reading this comment haha
Over 7 mins of nothing.
+Sean Hey, Thanks for watching!
4200 is the trick
It's awesome!
Very long winded
Good stuff but too much repetition and rambling
Talk to much
You mean thank you for the free info.
