FINALLY SCS has done something to improve the actual core game: Multiple pivot points! We will be able to drive B-doubles in the US and classic truck-trailer combinations in the EU. This being said, it took them 4 1/2 years to actually change something in the core gameplay and game engine...
Apart from the improvements to the graphics, addition of liftable trailer axles, improved physics and tire simulation, improvements to control inputs, performance improvements, more detailed mapping capabilities, modding support, etc. etc. Everyone seems to act like they haven't been constantly tweaking and upgrading the game over the past 5 years... Go back and play one of those original versions of ETS2 and you'll see just how far the game has come since then.
- graphics: Some improvements. Does not change the gameplay, however. - liftable trailer axles: You lift them once per delivery at the max - physics and tire simulation: Good improvements, still unrealistic however. Mods do a much better job. - improvements to control inputs: A good improvement, I agree. - performance improvements: Shadows still kill FPS like in no other game. Still dx9 - more detailed mapping capabilites: - modding support: It's what keeps the game alive in the first place. Mods worked since the release. Overall, we are still doing some driving as a hired driver, a given a garage and a loan, buy our first semi truck, deliver some semi trailers from A to B, and buy some more trucks for hired drivers. No own trailers, no company / economics management, no specilisation, no variety in trucks. Now, the support of multiple pivot points will, for the first time, change the face of the game: We will drive entirely different trucks and trailers (!) for the first time in five years. After the introduction of Gigaliners and B-doubles we may also see the truck-trailer combinations that are all over Europe! And finally, we may actually have to buy trucks and trailers for special goods (like refrigerated, flammable liquids, etc.).
I think the issue with that is scale. How long would you expect Sydney to Perth to take? Coz you'd be sure people would want to try that. That being said I would buy it coz I live here.
Regarding transmissions, it's worth noting the differential ratio, as well. That's the additional gear reduction, found in the ring/pinion gear sets in each axle. As such, the differential ratio is applied to ALL gears in the transmission. The higher that number, the more pulling power, just like the transmission gears.
This is how it really is in America with heavy hauls. Though there is usually a pilot car in the front with a pole on the vehichle testing low height spots to warn the truck driver ahead of time and the load is also followed by a 2nd pilot car for traffic control.
Depends on the height of the load. If you watch Sergei Dratchev on RUclips he hardly ever uses a pilot car. He does heavy haul all the time and I have only seen one of his videos where he used a pilot car, it was on a very twisty road so that was probably why.
+Granted I have only watched a fraction of his videos so far but I don't think his trailer is as long as some of these. The loads I have seen are heavy but not especially oversized. He is so particular in how he does things, I would bet he would be a trip to drive a pilot car for . His channel is one of my favorites, he has a very dry sense of humor.
The Salty Peanut Whether or not you need a pilot car ahead and/or behind or a police presence changes from state to state as well. I've seen trucks on rural Colorado roads with nuclear waste casks that take up two lanes that have numerous police escorts ahead and behind blocking side roads and forcing oncoming traffic to pull over.
it's pretty normal hauling these kinds of loads to put your outer steer tire or even the whole outer side of your frame into the grass (dirt, etc) to make a turn. This is where route preplanning comes into play, looking at turns on GPS with satellite overlay (not available on the game) to see how many lanes you have at your disposal and what the surrounding terrain looks like. Having escorts is another huge benefit (another in-game feature not included and likely not really possible to include due to AI) don't be afraid to put your outer edge in the dirt or into oncoming traffic to make a corner.
as an FYI, the front trailer is called a jeep, the last little one is called a stinger, the main trailer is an RGN, and they usually reffer to them by axle count, so it would be a 2+3 for the little one, and a 2+2+2 for the bigger one.
Haha Paul, you said "do bear in mind that I have the traffic turned on, if I was to turn the traffic on..." 13:48 - btw keep up the good work, I am really enjoying your videos!
Squirrel just so you are aware the front part of the trailer is called the jeep, you then have the trailer that attaches to that and the very back "dolley" as some will call it is called a stinger, just some advice from Texas where this stuff is almost everyday for me
I just got my first achievement of the Oversize pack. tips for the oversize pack 1. only take an oversize load during the day. Do Not Drive at Night! If your load heads into the night hours find a Truck Stop or Rest Area and park it otherwise you are not allowed on the freeway. 2. Oversize means overweight. Don't drive on the road until you have the permits. By law all oversize loads must hit the Scales. Find the scales and get your load weighed before you head to delivery. 3. Go wide. Oversize loads have three to four trailers you must go wide to enter and exit the yard and to avoid knocking down stop signs and traffic lights. and 4. Oversize loads can not be parked in the regular spot. Find an alternative spot or separate your trailers it is impossible to back up and park an oversize load.
front and rear extra trailers are called jeeps and that type of flatbed is called a rgn removable goose neck there are flats called skateboards and stepdecks which have 24in to 22in drop in deck height 11ft from the front and double drops which the deck is similar to the rgn in deck height but has better securement and less trailer weight then a rgn I normally pull a 48ft retniour 10ft spread axle trailer
You can also swing over left after your initial turn, then go as far as possible and turn sharp right to align yourself with the drop-off point. That's often how i do it. And yes, i know this video was released 3 years ago by the time i am watching this, but thought i would watch it and mention it anyway
Hey Squirrel, I hope you get to see this, I've watched your videos for years now, all the way back before American Truck Simulator was a thing, this got me to like trucking, something I previously kinda disliked as trucking was running in my family for 2 generations now, and when they got American Truck Simulator out, as a Canadian I was very glad to get something closer to home, and this game made me enjoy trucking so much (No offense European truckers, you need bigger rigs, they just look cool, deal with it) it made me like it so much that I went on and started studying to get my own truck license (class 1 here) and in a few days I should finally receive my license, I passed my test wonderfully last week, honestly I never thought I'd be a trucker until now. And I have you to thank for it. Yes my dad got me interested at first, and my American grandpa got me dreaming about driving from New York to California for a living, but over the years I kind of lost interest, I have you to thank for reviving this spirit in me. Thank you Squirrel.
First trailer is called a bridge (single would be a Jeep). Then your low bed, then your booster on the rear :) I did low bedding with a Jeep set up in Canada, 5500 kgs on steers, 24000 kgs on my drives and Jeep, and 24000 kgs on the trailer tri axle :)
the first dolly is called a "jeep" and the rear dolly is called "bridge" I do use jeeps but I've never used a bridge, 2 trailers aren't too hard to back up, but 3 is difficult, big steering movements for your rear trailer, small for your lead
Squirrel, do u secretly work with SCS, because when you were reviewing the Truck Analysis, you said 'we brought in this truck analysis' or something along that, and it got me wondering if you working with or for SCS?? Do u?
9:22 Um, pretty sure you got your ratios back to front 7:1 is high ratio 15:1 is low ratio. And yes, you are still right in regards of the 15:1, it is better for torque, getting something moving on a slope.
Europe is way better in everything. The dull Americans just happen to live more isolated and thus less enemies and oil reserves, which just gave them a little boost.
Different tech for different roads. We have a lot of long straight-ish wide roads so we don't have a need for European style trailers as much. We do have trailers with steerable axles but they aren't really needed except for specific applications.
ah indeed. Roads in europe are narrow and with tight corners. These american trailers are very very long(for me). Anyway, this shows that double(or more) trailers are now possible(even for modding, can't wait to see some road train mods)
While "better" in the form of more advanced, its also has its disadvantages. My first thought is tire dimension and tire speed at highway speeds. Europe you usually don't drive _that_ long with loads, so the wear on small tires isn't bad, but when you are going to transport it across the US, larger tires will mean less wear.
Gidday Squirrel. I've taken on the Heavy Haulage DLC, mainly because I'm gunna love the challenge, and I had a reversing experience after I miss judged the entrance that I could only describe as a 'totally embarrassing disaster' and I was lookin for info on how to do it properly and look professional. I also wanted to know how to set my truck up to have what it needs to do the job. I was lookin and lookin until I found this video. You have covered everything I needed to know in one short and thorough lesson in a friendly easy to listen to manner. I was rapt and wanted to let you know of my appreciation. I'd still like to learn how to reverse these multi-pivot point trailers though and maybe one day I will. Being able to lock the pivot points might be a good way to have more control. Ah who knows what options will become available. I'm glad I discovered you squirrel and I'm happy to become a subscriber. I'll check out your other videos as well. I'm a retired driver and play ATS and ETS2 to keep my skills honed and still feel part of the trucking community. Mate, thanks very much!
Only thing I noticed of was the Scraper was facing the wrong way on the trailer. The front of the machine should actually be facing towards the front of the trailer and the rear in the back. Also the Scraper's exhaust stack, air cleaner stack and GPS pole would b removed for transport.
It would be nice if SCS would add the spread axle flatbed that are primarily in use in the USA. These multi-point articulating trailers are meant for hundreds of thousands of pounds. In fact you can haul a lot more on a standard 48-102 trailer than 20ton's. Most are rated well over 50ton capaity. What makes it "heavy haul" is that you are over the legal gross weight of 80,000lbs.
idk why but i find it satisfying to watch a trailer straightn itself out once you have reversed enough to turn all the arituclation points as far as they can go
I work in a heavy duty mechanic shop and I drive wheelers (a 24 wheel trailer) with boosters (the extension on the back) and jeeps (the dolly in front) and backing them into a shop is difficult but not impossible
The oversize sign does not come with the heavy haul DLC at all. Either ETS2 or ATS there is only 6 different loads you can haul. Also the beacons are not built into the base game at all.
I finally got the dlc today and hauled two of the trailers(the crawler tractor and the lift truck). I've got to say scs did an amazing job with the trailers and their handling model. It's definitely worth the 5 dollars I spent on it. Btw if you use the back end of the tractor to swing the front stinger it'll pull your trailer where you need it to go with out going so wide especially useful for that rail drop off. I know because I had the three piece trailer going into that drop off. Awesome video as well!
What's the point of the extra dolly on the back? It doesn't seem to bear any of the load? I see how the dolly in front takes some of the load off of the rears of the truck but the one in the rear just seems like a trailer to carry the wide load sign and flags. Am I missing something?
I'm hoping they add in where you need endorsements for oversize and wide loads. Trailers with steering axles are not a common site in the US, in fact I've never seen one, if there are any here.
Squirrel mate that part you called a dolly is actually a Goose Neck its an adaptor to add an extra set of wheels so the truck doesn't take all the weight of the trailer on it. along with reversing them its not hard if you know how to do it not every eurocoon can do it
"Low loader dolly" or just "dolly" is what I've always hear/seen it called. And they're a butt tonne bigger than that little road train dolly they've got the low loader hooked onto in the DLC.
Can someone explain why the heavier cargo needs that extra bit on the rear? Do the extra 2 axles support the weight more? Kind of just looks like a caboose to me lol
i drive in real like a low boy .... well you have a jeep after it is the low boy then it is a booster that what they are called . usually the booster follows in the same track as the low boy and you need to take much more wider then what you did at the beginning
I presume whether people own the equivalent DLC for ETS2 or not doesn't affect whether we'll have this DLC? So it won't be given for free if one has the ETS2 DLC right?
Did he use the ten speed or was it just for example? He forgot about the differential ratio being a factor. 18 speed with no retarder since to my knowledge do not exist in the US
The mods based on the DLC must be awesome. I'm going to buy the DLC. This purchase will support the ETS2 team in developing new projects like the future Scania-Trucks
For me, this is proper heavy, none of that easy auto turning trailers in ETS. Even in the UK, the Lift Truck Chassis trailer see a common heavy haul configuration. I would however like to see the ability to detach the load bearing trucks within a certain distance from the drop off points; both of the UK and Australia I've seen drivers detach the load bearing truck sometimes when then arrive at the drop off to aid with shortening the load and maneuvering in the tighter spaces. This definitely ramps up the difficulty and challenge though, bring it on :D
I am looking to get into the American truck simulator games and I am needing information on good computers that I can buy ready to play this game at a cheap price
Double trailers will be coming to the game in the 1.7 update. However, there was a video from one of the beta testers that had a working double trailer mod, but the video is no longer available.
I don't get it... what's the point of those multi-articulation trailers? Couldn't the load just be attached to the main articulation like any other trailer ? Can someone explain ?
The green steering wheel is part of the Steering Creations Pack DLC. The green bug shield is part of a mod. Head over to ATS Mods . LT and search for: Kenworth W900 Accessories Pack V1.2

X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X8X Yeah, now we finally can take this over (convert) this to ETS2 engine and finally make the trailers we've been waiting for
Double trailers are coming to both games in the next big update.
That's what SCS should do: Develop the actual game engine!
For content (maps, trailers, tuning, skins) we have modders who do a great job.
Kangaroos aren't a market for SCS.
Shit joke
Dubsox id spend 100 bucks on that, that's how good it sounds
This joke is so lame it's funny lmao.
I think the issue with that is scale. How long would you expect Sydney to Perth to take? Coz you'd be sure people would want to try that.

now those pilot cars in multiplayer are actually going to be useful.
me I had police escort all the way to Yuma because my load was over sized

What a coincidence Ellie, I caught one of your videos a couple of days ago.
Looked like you were having a good time
Ok so why is the lift truck chassis heavier than the whole lift truck?
Jack Brown lol
the truck is aluminum the lift truck is steel
Different make.

I'm very lucky that you are the one who got the approval to test DLC for ATS and ETS2.
Fun fact the first heavy haul (DLC) trailer is the same tractor that Richard Hammond used in Top gear where they accidentally grew Bio-Diesel
as an FYI, the front trailer is called a jeep, the last little one is called a stinger, the main trailer is an RGN, and they usually reffer to them by axle count, so it would be a 2+3 for the little one, and a 2+2+2 for the bigger one.

I was wondering if someone would comment on that. Understood what he meant though.
I hate to be that guy but @ 8:12 that is not bhp, it is hp.
There is a difference.
There is, but not a big difference.
What truck is he using? Also how did he get that headache rack on his truck?
ManNamedDaniel check his spreadsheet of mods available in description.
I drive LCV up in canada two 53', total lenth in a daycab is 127'. would love to see this added to this game.
Well there is Double trailers coming this summer, so I'm pretty sure someone will make a mod like that ;)
Squirrel just so you are aware the front part of the trailer is called the jeep, you then have the trailer that attaches to that and the very back "dolley" as some will call it is called a stinger, just some advice from Texas where this stuff is almost everyday for me

James Abell IV thank you James but the one in the back is called a stinger front one is a jeep
James Abell IV Finally someone knows the real name i haul 9 axles all over the east coast
How do you get the option of changing your transmission in the controls menu, mine is no longer there after the DLC was added?
5:30 this was my first oversize load I hauled it from Phoenix to Yuma with a police escort.
i wonder why we didnt get any oversize signs in the ets2 Heavy weight dlc?
ikr it looks cooler in ats
maybe it does but for realism...
Witch one looks more like a regular trailer
did you even compare the trailer sizes for the lowbow with dollies and the flatbed with steering?
its still a Heavy cargo/oversize cargo trailer
You can also swing over left after your initial turn, then go as far as possible and turn sharp right to align yourself with the drop-off point. That's often how i do it. I see, there are finally beacons for ATS. Nice.

At my old job I've seen a few blokes that have had to reverse a B-double around corners, amazing stuff.
Squirrel, do u secretly work with SCS, because when you were reviewing the Truck Analysis, you said 'we brought in this truck analysis' or something along that, and it got me wondering if you working with or for SCS?? Do u?
It has been a while when I last watched your vids, and your intro is SICK!!
9:22 Um, pretty sure you got your ratios back to front 7:1 is high ratio 15:1 is low ratio. And yes, you are still right in regards of the 15:1, it is better for torque, getting something moving on a slope.
Got this DLC downloaded today, can't wait to play it too and record some gameplay footage
Thanks for sharing this with us, Paul. Looks like it will be a lot of fun!
So, does this show European trailer(technology) is better than the US ones?(just wondering, no offense
yep
Europe is way better in everything. The dull Americans just happen to live more isolated and thus less enemies and oil reserves, which just gave them a little boost.

I really like your videos because you show things like its need to be shown keep up with the good work.
Awesome! Great review Paul :) I wonder if you recorded the sound/ explanation while you drove or after getting all the footage?
It would be nice if SCS would add the spread axle flatbed that are primarily in use in the USA. These multi-point articulating trailers are meant for hundreds of thousands of pounds. In fact you can haul a lot more on a standard 48-102 trailer than 20ton's. Most are rated well over 50ton capaity. What makes it "heavy haul" is that you are over the legal gross weight of 80,000lbs.
idk why but i find it satisfying to watch a trailer straightn itself out once you have reversed enough to turn all the arituclation points as far as they can go
This looks like something that will bring me back into the game again.

I know because I had the three piece trailer going into that drop off. Awesome video as well!
in your opening clip, I quite literally work with those writgen milling machines all summer
Is that for road construction or farming?
What's the point of the extra dolly on the back? It doesn't seem to bear any of the load? I see how the dolly in front takes some of the load off of the rears of the truck but the one in the rear just seems like a trailer to carry the wide load sign and flags. Am I missing something?
I'm hoping they add in where you need endorsements for oversize and wide loads. Trailers with steering axles are not a common site in the US, in fact I've never seen one, if there are any here.
Squirrel mate that part you called a dolly is actually a Goose Neck its an adaptor to add an extra set of wheels so the truck doesn't take all the weight of the trailer on it. along with reversing them its not hard if you know how to do it not every eurocoon can do it
Look at this. Maybe you need to stick with ETS2
"Low loader dolly" or just "dolly" is what I've always hear/seen it called. And they're a butt tonne bigger than that little road train dolly they've got the low loader hooked onto in the DLC.
Reversing the ones with just the front dolly is actually somewhat easy. I have no idea what to do when you add the third in the back, though.
If the articulation of the trailer can be locked for reversing it would be of great help.
Can someone explain why the heavier cargo needs that extra bit on the rear? Do the extra 2 axles support the weight more? Kind of just looks like a caboose to me lol
I see B-Train trucks through they are chip hoppers and lumber flatbeds where I am from, which is Canada. I see tandem dump with trailers as well
What about toll booths? Will toll booths be effected by this?
Question: Is there any hope for tri-axle?
Finally, my Kenworth W900 can actually do its job. And it's finally out.
Is the transformer cargo more rare or something because I can't find it in the job market, I have hauled countless cable reels but not 1 transformer
i drive in real like a low boy .... well you have a jeep after it is the low boy then it is a booster that what they are called . usually the booster follows in the same track as the low boy and you need to take much more wider then what you did at the beginning
favourite intro of all the RUclips's
Is that logger rack a mod or did that come with the dlc
I presume whether people own the equivalent DLC for ETS2 or not doesn't affect whether we'll have this DLC? So it won't be given for free if one has the ETS2 DLC right?
No, they will be sold separately.
Flat4Buggy 2 So as I thought then. But hey, the ETS2 DLC was worth it and if the price is right I don't mind this too. Thanks mate for the reply.
No problem. It should be $5 like the ETS2 version.
The red tractor is a parody of the Case (here called Kase) Agriculture brand! Great!
Great video Paul!
Is that truck analysis window in the stock game?
why heavy haul trailer take some time to straighten up at drop-off point, Squirrel?
uhm, squirrel, the long chasis 6×4 version really matters because you will have less manouvrability, which is a problem when parking soooo. it matters
Really Helpful as always Thanks Squirrel.
Truck I use currently has transmission with retarder that doesn't work and engine brake also doesn't work. Best truck for this dlc.
Wonder if they're planning to add pilot cars. Would help with traffic management.
Finally, I hope modders will make good use of this and we'll see some super interesting trailers
Great vid! Love the tips on engines and axles
Did he use the ten speed or was it just for example? He forgot about the differential ratio being a factor. 18 speed with no retarder since to my knowledge do not exist in the US
hi squirrel, do the trailers have lift axles on em?
what accessory mod do you have for the W900
how does the longest trailer deal with hills?
The mods based on the DLC must be awesome.
I'm going to buy the DLC. This purchase will support the ETS2 team in developing new projects like the future Scania-Trucks
So there is no reversing at all? Or does the skilled parking still require reversing?
Almost inevitable people will have to end up reversing when using this. Much hilarity (or rage-quitting) will result! :D
oh boy, the multiplayer is gonna be fun when everyone suddenly rushes back to try the new trailers
the back part of the trailer is called a stinger
I wish there was a way to change the weight of the trailers to 300ton
Hay squirrel I just wanted to tell you the names of the new parts of the trailer the front is called the jeep and the back is called the stinger
That intro is so cool!
Can you please make a vid on your force feedback settings
For me, this is proper heavy, none of that easy auto turning trailers in ETS. Even in the UK, the Lift Truck Chassis trailer see a common heavy haul configuration. I would however like to see the ability to detach the load bearing trucks within a certain distance from the drop off points; both of the UK and Australia I've seen drivers detach the load bearing truck sometimes when then arrive at the drop off to aid with shortening the load and maneuvering in the tighter spaces.
This definitely ramps up the difficulty and challenge though, bring it on :D
I wonder how Wirtgen feels about this lol. Also why are these so light? is that cargo only or gross trailer weight?
in hevy haul DLC of ATS is very challenging work. in ETS2 but more when you reverse. 😊
can you add in the mack pennicle semi tractor and try it with this dlc?
Australian Truck Simulator is finally possible, Road Trains :D
EpicFlyer889 Good luck with IA!
adrien choiniere Haha yeah :(
Paul, when is the next this may contain nuts episode?
How do you get that new truck skin?
Paul, on real rigs you can lock the trailers axles when reversing.
How do you get on TRAILER BROWSER?
How do I play the dlc ? I just bought the dlc but can't find the contents
How did you turn off traffic ?
Just a heads up for the speed demons, the flags don't work very well when doing 105 mph
Not sure if the "..also paves the way..." at 0:32 was an intended pun or not :P
I am looking to get into the American truck simulator games and I am needing information on good computers that I can buy ready to play this game at a cheap price
Been waiting for this video for a while, so glad It's finally here!
Very good! Now is possible build double trailers mods!!
+Kid574 distribution of weight across many axles and wheels
+Squirrel Why do you reckon it can't be done on a single articulation + just as many wheels?
How to get the customazation for the truck, green steering wheel, green bug catcher,....
The green steering wheel is part of the Steering Creations Pack DLC. The green bug shield is part of a mod. Head over to ATS Mods . LT and search for: Kenworth W900 Accessories Pack V1.2
