Heck, I can't imagine being "fake married" to him now!! Good job doing your homework. Meri was/ is depressed from first episode. Janelle was checked out from episode one. Relegated mother role to Christine. Janelle is Kody sycophant and is comatose most shows. Christine WAS happy until it was all exposed by the show all the secrets Kody kept with Robyn that mostly hurt Christine, pregnant at the time. Through the years the attitude of Christine changed the most, due to Robyns true manipulation being revealed. Robyn manipulated Meri, who thought they were besties. Robyn manipulated Kody with her uterus and ability to pop out kids. She would not give him a second child until she got the legal marriage. She manipulated the move to AZ to help her autistic son in college. Now looks like she manipulated and got her mansion over the other woman’s modest homes and rentals.
Robyn gets the mansion because Kody lives there 99% of the time. The woman hate each other, Period!
I believe the reason Christine was involved in helping with Janelles kids is that Janelle was working in real estate and kody working also and that is how the family was supported for a while.

The only child born to the first 3 wives since the show started is Truely.
Meri and Kody also worked when they were in Utah and the kids were small. Janelle did not go into real estate until they moved to Vegas, and at that time, most of the older kids were over 12 yo. But, yes, Christine was still their caregiver, even though Robyn was in the family and in the Cul-de-Sac too, I don’t think Robyn ever stepped up as a mom for any of the kids!
How incredibly sad to live with the belief that God is vindictive and so judgemental you must live such horrible lives to be accepted into Heaven. That's not my God. My God is a kind, loving and caring God who welcomes all of his children back with open arms. God does not condone women being treated so horribly and made to feel like they are subhuman trash to be used and thrown at at man's whim.
True LDS members don't believe God is vengeful or judgemental. We believe He is a loving Father who cares about us and wants the best for us. And we do not believe in polygamy.
And our God, our Lord in heaven would never say it's. That's why these men have created these FAKE gods,and men like Kody will follow them.

Yeah, they signed up because they felt like they had to it in order to get to heaven. I don't believe the majority of them did this because it's something they actually wanted to do, so of course they get jealous and insecure. I don't see Mary sticking around.
I also think their faith has been tested and I don't think their personal beliefs are as strong as they once were, at least with some of them. The majority of them don't look happy, even kody.

I felt so bad for meri when she was basically forced into a divorce. That was terrible. 20+ year marriage down the drain. At that point the relationship was truly over and we all knew it.

Yeah that is interesting. Meri has confessed that she was looking for emotional comfort. So by that she has giving her place is heaven up. And also her daughters'. So Meri could go ahead and leave now if she wanted. Kody has already said that being gay was against their religion. You can't remember how he exactly said it, I took it as he was saying he could forgive. I wish I could really remember how he said it, or at least what episode it was on. But the point I was making is that according to the Covenant Kody is not going to forgive her and when he did that he put his daughters' eternity out there too. Maybe I'm taking it wrong.

After watching the show I am more and more convinced that some people, like Kody Brown and his 4 wives, all like living in one big long giant group therapy session, think about it their lives are just a long drawn out group, they like complicated, they will create drama and complicate things that should be rather simple...
I just now saw this video for the first time. You aired this two years ago but WOW what alot of information here as to the WHYS if it ALL.
I have wondered all along if Meri stayed because of her deep seeded religious belief about heaven and eternity. I also wondered about their public display of "support" for Meri's daughter and how her decision to live lined up with the family's religion.
There's just so much this family has NOT BEEN transparent about. They chose to go "public" but still keep so much hidden.
All this covenant, rules, tradition etc. EXPLAINS WHY Christine was finally able to leave...she renounced her belief in their religion and said it was FREEING.

There’s so much darkness in these kinds of cult religions but you’d never know it based solely on how it’s presented to the public on TLC, which is a palatable version of fundie Mormonism. The reality of it isn’t digestible. People need to know the truth about this especially in case someone sees this show thinking it’s harmless and converts. Same with the Duggars’ IBLP. Thank you so much Katie for enlightening us as to the doctrine behind how they live. That said our Mr. Kody is just using bits and pieces to line the coffers of his families way of living. Last nite watching Sister Wives I had to walk out of the TV room several times mostly when Kody was having his one on one time with the camera. His ego knows no bounds. He kept saying if they one housed it the wives wouldn’t like the dynamic then because they’d have to see him with other wives. PLEASE!!! Even that new big compound wouldn’t be big enough to House Kodys head/ego. Kody is no longer studly do right and this middle age realm he currently lives doesn’t glorify him as much anymore. That’s a problem for him. His little eutopic family is doing what happens to everyone. Growing older!!! It isn’t his time anymore. Is there an out to pasture for middle aged polygamous men? Kody and his convictions would just be another book on the library shelves, he wouldn’t be the shiny beacon that others apparently want to emulate. I’m sick of the compound talks. This whole thing is unbelievable, beyond my imagination. So much information, I had no idea this was going on. Sounds like brain washing. These wives are trapped in a very unhappy situation, what a way to live, so unhappy. Thank you for educating us all. I wondered why Mary went thru with the divorce and continues to stay. I was so glad Christine decided to leave and now has a chance for happiness. I wonder why she left with only 1 child. I also wondered why if this was such a great lifestyle why none of the children decided to follow their parents, good for them.
Several points I would like to clarify for myself. On one of the first episodes Kody says that he is an “IT salesman”. In their religion the first and legal wife is in charge of the other wives. So when he devoted Meri he essentially punished her for the catfishing stuff etc. and the marriage to Kody made her the first wife therefore the one in charge. Also check out the episodes when they were getting Robins loan for the house in Las Vegas. Robin admits that she had several aliases supposedly because she needed to hide from her ex. Who I believe is David Jessop one of the leaders of the FLDS, I don’t know for sure but the kids names were Jessop. She also reveals that she had bankruptcies in her past. Janell and Christine admit they love polygamy but have never wanted to be a first wife. I also wholeheartedly agree with your statement about when they will file bankruptcy again. I truly believe that’s why they moved to a new state so they can they work the system. If you have the resources I would love to know if they are using Meri’s B&B as collateral and that is why he is keeping her around. I know this is a lot but I would love to here your thoughts. Meri when she dies willbe the first wife in heaven and will have many children in heaven even though she didn't have many on earth, at least that is how I understand it. I'm ex mormon. I didn’t like it when Kody REFUSED to lend Meri the $20,000 she needed for her down payment on the Inn because he said they were Broke! And didn’t have it. But a couple months later he was Gung Ho on moving to Arizona! Shelling out Tens of Thousands of Dollars! And of course Robyn got the Biggest and Most expensive House!
Also when the Grand Opening of Meri’s Inn happened that MERI did all of the work for , the rest of them did nothing to help at all. It was Shocking that Meri was pushed to the back and Kody cut the Ribbon!
They are taking All of the Money coming in from Meri’s Inn . I was so angry to watch what they all did to Meri. And the constant Browbeating of Meri.
I can’t believe Meri is making money off the B&B. It’s located in a tiny town with no tourism so Cody isn’t getting any income from Meri. She asked him for 30 thousand and I agree he said no. TLC is their main income and they might not renew the series. I have no idea how they manage finances but no one has a real job.
Her B&B is doing great and thank go Kody didn't loan her the money. The B&B is owned by her, her Mother and her Brother and the browns get nothing for it

What 3 businesses does Kody have? I never heard about it on the show. Jannelle is working in real estate, Christine? Meri has the B&B and Rue La or whatever it’s called. I believe they are in debt and hope they can build but it’s a mess at this point.
How about when Meri was finally ready to try IVF and try to have another child and he said he didnt want more children. Yet, here is Robyn with 2 of his biological children now. Ever since then I knew Meri means nothing to him. Why else would she be online trying to find friend's? Clearly, he is only there for Robyn, and supervised visitation with his other children.

According to my dates, Christine got pregnant in late July, and Kodystarted dating Robyn in June. She knew he was dating Robyn when she conceived. And also, Robyn & Kody didn't get married within a few days of her delivery. It was more like 5 weeks. Truly was born April 13, they got married May 22.

5dorrs each of the wives has their own jobs. Robyn has a business called sister wives closet, Janelle has her real estate business, Meri sells clothes and now has the bed and breakfast. I don’t remember what Christine does.

It's crazy that while the Christian community regards being intimate with anyone else besides their legal married spouse as grounds for divorce while another religious community regards being intimate with multiple wives as the promise to being in the highest level of heaven next to God. If I was in Meris situation I would have to take my chances and RUN not WALK away as soon as possible! I can't begin to imagine living in such a oppressive and hopeless situation! I wonder what the suicide and mental health illness rate is in this religious community.

If you'll notice He said " Come forth Lazarus", for if He had simply said " Come forth" all the dead would have been awakened. He may be delusional enough to believe he has " priesthood holder". He simply does not. Even a priest cannot call forth any spirit from the dead. That belongs to the Lord.
She wasn't even part of their religion. She was friends with Meri and converted so she could marry Kody. She just had a thing for him and knew he needed more wives so the rest is history. He won't ever get rid of her because she is the only one with any smarts in finance. They have no romantic relationship except for when he was trying to mass produce kids.

IDK... I just don't think that these women believe this stuff after being on the show and around so many non-polygamists for so long. You can tell that they're not the same people they were when they started. I think that they just want to stay with him for the same reasons that so many non-plygs do at this point (lots of personal reasons and insecurities, jealously, family etc), but mostly for THE SHOW. I think some of them used to believe those things, but not any more and that's an excuse at this point. That's just MY opinion obviously. I don't see Meri's mother leaving her either, but what the heck do I know?
I thought the reason they gave that Robyn and Cody got married was so it would be easier for Cody to adopt her children (not for benefits)? That's what they said and Robyn has repeated that many times.
I can't imagine how they could all be married to the same man and all lived together for so many years prior to the show and they don't even like/hate each other. Talk about a personal living hell! The whole thing is just mind blowing.
I grew up in the mormon church. I no longer believe or attend the church. That being said I do not know of a place in Doctrine and Covenants Section 132 or any other section of LDS scripture that says the more wives you have the greater your strength in getting into heaven. Regarding you can't leave - yes they hold it over your head that if you doubt the church/break your covenants but you can leave a marriage and the church. There is something called unrighteous dominion which mean the man is being unfair/too controlling etc and this is considered a sin. There are times when divorce is allowed and can be recognized by the church. My sister got divorced and when she met and decided to marry her 2nd husband she wrote a letter to the leaders of the church asking that her covenant with her first husband be cancelled so she could do the covenant again but with her now 2nd husband. This was granted by the church. Yes there is alot of dysfunction in this religion and it's not healthy but not everything you've said about the covenant is true.

It depends on the printing, what edition of the D&C it is...the LDS church has made changes to the language and even dropped things all together over the years...the version of the D&C that the Brown's use or that the AUB uses could be different from mainstream LDS....kind of like reading a BOM from J Smith's time versus now...
Okay she actually said in the beginning that this was something that was told to her. She had the right to do so, you was in the dumb ass crap and had enough sense to get out she just was saying what was told to her by a family friend of the Brown's . If you watched this mess from day one i believe you could understand more of what was told to her. That's all.

They all have small business that they run out of their houses. I also head that Kody had rental properties or some sort of real estate deals. The 2 blonde wives have their real estate license too.

Meri being quiet is more about keeping the TLC money coming. Christine gets sassy because she has more clout as an Allred. Janelle is a cheerleader since she is a convert. Robyn is the current boo so she can get sassy and bossy because she has the upper hand for now.
Ody is afraid of her. It seems more and from her comments and tone difficult for her to hide her contempt for him. Not exactly heavenly
IMO Robyn was never close to anyone but Kody. She played Meri bcuz she wanted to be the legal wife. Robyn’s presence changed everything & the only thing that will shake things up is introducing a new woman. Kody is a complete narcissist so not letting Meri go is supply within itself. If any wife does leave it will be Robyn then she go on a media spree “speaking out”. Thanks for your research!

I have always wondered about the inside dynamics of their beliefs, things make way more sense now sadly. I can't imagine being stuck in a relationship with someone that clearly doesn't want anything to do with you.

PS- I never could understand why a woman would want a heaven where she has to continue to serve her husband. It's an aspect of Mormon marriage that I cannot even imagine - this holds true for mainline Mormon marriages (which are monogamous) as well as these fundie Mormon marriages.
I was raised in main stream Mormon family. But in my twenties I started questioning a lot. I was never given direct answers! I was lectured to by a Bishop and told I needed " more faith" and that the men were the rulers of their homes. Women are still treated as second class, are not respected as equals or anything but childbearers! Even intelligence isn't respected in women. Women are to be homemakers and have children and serve their husbands. Men ate all powerful. Needless to say I am no longer in that "cult". I am highly educated, have a great career, and more importantly self respect and a close personal relationship with my Heavenly Father. I am equally loved and appreciated by God as all his other children. I do not believe you have to be a member of a specific religion in order to go to heaven. In Romans in the Bible it tell you exactly what you need to do to return to heaven! All you need is the Bible and and understanding of of God's unconditional love for ALL his children!!!

When I was a Neo-Pagan (Druid), I actually confronted a couple of missionaries about the priesthood being automatic for men. I told them about myself and how I was a Druid Priestess (I kid you not). They kind of stammered and then said "Goodbye" and left as quickly as possible!
