Zero Connection....... I like how Ultraseven kinda emphasizes not really cutting the space of the characters so much. You get to see most or even entirely of what Ultraseven's slugger cuts. The lack of close ups on the impact of his slugger brings focus to the results.

I really like how you talked about the music, including the many notable covers of the Ultraseven theme.
In any review or overview of a Tokusatsu series or property, it's ultimately an unnecessary thing to mention. But as a fan of Tokusatsu music throughout the generations, the reoccurring artists and the many wonderful covers time has provided, it's nice to see it mentioned here. It's not like people make videos dedicated to just the music production, so anytime it gets mentioned or some focus is always a wonderful in my eyes.

Kudos to you, Marcosatsu, for this in-depth Ultraseven documentary-- it revealed a lot about the making of this classic tokusatsu series.
There were a few other tv series briefly referred to that were news to me. Just never knew they existed. 😯 It's surprising what you can find on YT, decades after they first aired.
Although the tone of Ultraseven was a dark one, there are episodes that have optimistic endings, some more than others. And thanks for sharing! Cheers! 🇯🇵🌠⭐🇬🇧🐨

Just wanted to add a little more info regarding the first Ultraman/Ultraseven collaboration film that was shown at Kourakuen (an amusement park in the middle of Tokyo). I saw the show as a child growing up in Tokyo in the 60's and 70's (yeah, I'm a child of the Golden Age of Tokusatsu) and it was more than just a film. The film was shown inside a domed theater with three levitating platform that spun slowly (much like your typical amusement park ride). The scenes were projected onto different areas of the dome with multiple images popping up in different sections of the dome. It was pretty overwhelming at times.

Frankly I'm dissapointed on how you just glossed over & straight up tell people to skip Ultraseven X. Instead of just keeping it brief & letting people fill their own opinions about the show.
So I'm going to instead talk about what I liked about the show & why people should give it a chance.
Your right Ultraseven X dosen't have much to do with original series or characters. But I think in a way that's a good thing. The show isn't beholden to the massive legacy of Ultraseven. Each episode is unique and isn't just rehashing old Seven episodes. Instead show has some amazing original content. Such as episodes 6, 8 & 9 just to name a few. These episodes deal with "adult" topics in a way that not overtly gorey or inappropriate. Despite show being for prime time adult audience. I truly believe Ultraseven X can be enjoyed as a family show with messages that can be understanable to children inspite of the "maturity" of the topics.
The designs and overall aesthetic of the show is striking the moody skies, neons lights & amazing kaiju designs. The show uses of wireworks was something unprecedented for this franchise. And would serve to be used for future installments.
Ultraseven X is great episodic show from 2000's that really capture the vibe & mood of the era. While being short & sweet. I reccomend this show if you want dip your toes into some nice sci-fi to watch at your leisure.

    • @SamuraiEchidna
      @SamuraiEchidna Год назад +2

I do agree. Ultraseven X is underrated, but I wouldn't call it boring or skippable.
Personally, I liked many aspects of the show. Especially the way they redesigned the Ultraseven suit. It's not too much, still kept as classic as possible, but still looks and feels like something the Heisei era would have made. A solid design with less visible seams, zippers, suit crunches/crinkles, etc.; the kind of things that make it easier for an audience to believe that he's a super being and not just a guy in a suit.
And I also like how the show ends trying to tie it back to the original Ultraseven, even if it's abstract or confusing. At the time, I had never seen any previous Ultra TV shows or movies. However, this version of Ultraseven got me curious enough to go see the original without giving away any major spoilers. Any production that can do that is aces in my book. I knew that both shows would have a very different tone and direction, but that's exactly what people like me want to see. Bait. Not that there is anything wrong with team up specials/movies/shows that bring back the original actors and the original suit designs. Those are awesome too, but they often feel like more of a reward for long time fans. And if the production team is not careful, they may end up giving away too many spoilers, thus ruining the experience of discovering an older show.
And is it just me, or did Ultraseven X have a western approach with its sci-fi story telling? Especially episode 8, with that mystery around the "Norman/Not man" clue. That felt like a story that could have easily translated for American and international audiences.

Does anyone have ANY idea of what's on the Ultraseven 55th anniversary Blu ray being released in August 2023? The listing's there but they don't describe the disc's contents!!!
There have been a few Ultraman compilations released that have smatterings of episodes from different Ultraman series.
They still haven't released the full English dub of Ultraman on Blu ray yet, only a few select episodes.
I have all the Showa era Ultraman series except Ultraman 80. I didn't care for what I saw of it on the Tokashoutsu channel on PlutoTV. I saw Ultraseven X on Amazon Prime and was frankly bored by it.
The cameos by Ultraseven in later Ultraman shows and movies are much appreciated. The fight scene in the Ultraman Orb he appeared in was a huge highlight. I think it might be the last time we see Dan Moroboshi onscreen...

I'll admit, for someone who just want to have fun watching kaiju action, the plot-heavy Ultraseven can be a bit boring to watch as some things in the story didn't really age well. But it helps when you know the legacy behind it, and Seven is a cool Ultraman. But 1967 Pandon is still ugly as shit and no amount of historical importance will change my mind 😅
