In Indonesia we call the original Ultraman "Ultraman Mbah" Mbah is the term we use to call someone who is really old and respected. Kind of like people calling the original Gundam the granddaddy of Gundam
@@joshgallie1543 Well, there are some ways that can make it very popular in Indonesia. They brought Heisei's Ultra to TV like TDG, Cosmos, Mebius, and others. Also the pirates CD was very popular back then, leading to everyone including me known Ultraman so much, with their iconic giant humanoid alien, color timer and Specium Ray (in which if you tell them these characteristics they will always say it's Ultraman, even if they're not into Toku). This popularity is also applied to Kamen Rider Black and Black RX that was distributed to TV, called "Ksatria Baja Hitam", Uchuu Keiji Gavan, Megaloman, and several other shows. Because of Ultraman and Kamen Rider popularities, until now, Ultraman and Kamen Rider series are distributed to our national TV till present. Even in this year, Ultraman Blazar is going to be shown in the same year (Yup, the same year they released the series). And recently Kengo Manaka was visiting Indonesia for Ultraman's special stage show.
Another addition to the Ultraman dubbed in other languages: In the Philippines, ask a Filipino there who was the first Ultra they first watched on TV as a kid, most of them will say Ultraman Ace. This was because Ultraman Ace was the first Ultra series aired in the country and we kinda got the Ultra series extremely late, as far back as 1989. The original Ultraman (1966) then got aired right after Ace around 1991 or 1992, and we didn't get another Ultra series until Tiga, which was dubbed and aired around 2000 or 2001. Another fun fact: Ultraman Ace was said to be the one of the first Tokusatsu series to be dubbed entirely in Filipino language, as majority of anime and past tokus were dubbed and broadcasted entirely in English before the late 80's.
@@Deckotaocho then we also had Cosmos, Nexus and Max, though they were broadcasted entirely in English dub (I watched those on Cartoon Network back then if I recall). Then we had Mebius which basically confused a lot of Filipino kids because they didn't know much about the Showa Ultras, save for Ultraman and Ace. We did not get another Ultra until the Ultraman Zero films got released in cinemas here, then we later had Ginga, X, R/B, Orb, etc. and now we get to have a lot of new Ultra shows ever since on TV.
@@GatlingPea32Wait, Max was aired in English???? (update, I think Bluearc is also included on the iceberg, I made this comment before I realized Bluearc was included on this list) Well, Bluearc is one of the known controversial chinese animation studios, just because they got a contract from UMC to make unofficial ultraman media for almost 3 years of time. Back then Bluearc is best known for their CGI animated shows that is very praised by the fans of chinese animation. But nowadays it wasn't the same, since Bluearc had created controversial ultraman media. These products are also something that ruined the reputation of Bluearc itself, and that resulted in them milking the Dragon Force franchise (钢铁飞龙) which had a few unofficial ultraman related stuff like two movies and two shows
I started watching "Ultraman" (1966) as soon as it hit U.S. television. I quickly developed a crush on Akiko Fuji. She was played by Hiroko Sakurai, who is thankfully still alive. I'm fairly certain that she was voiced by Corrine Orr in the American dub. She voiced ALL of the female characters on "Speed Racer," plus Spritle. Did I miss it, or did you forget to mention the 1987 animated movie "Ultraman: The Adventure Begins" (U.S. title) aka "Ultraman: USA" (Japan title)? It was jointly produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions and Tsuburaya Productions and animated by both Studio Sign and Ashi Productions. I have an "Ultraman: Powered" videogame for the 3DO. It was only released in Japan, however the 3DO didn't use region locks. I also have "Ultraman Club" and "Ultraman Club 3" for the Famicom, plus the "Ultraman" game for the SNES, which is pretty bad.
One project that I'm surprised isn't on the iceberg is the Darkness Heels project which unites Belial, Cameara, Evil Tiga, Dark Zagi, and Juggler which consists of a few stage shows and a manga
Classic Canadian thrash metal band Voivod recently released an Ultraman EP with covers of the original theme in both English and French, alongside some bonus songs
The original Ultraman aired in syndication in the US from late 1966 just 2 months after it started in Japan. It ran in syndication in the US from late 1966 to the mid-1980s. I think I saw it twice in the 1970s and last time around 1980. What I didn't realize until the last decade was the 1960s probably had more Japanese entertainment imports into the US prior to the 1990s video explosion of anime. There was a LOT more anime than just Speed Racer and Astro Boy shown in the US!!! Also, a lot of science fiction series were licensed and edited into movies that were shown in syndication in the 1960s. Some of these (Prince of Space, Starman) were later spoofed on Mystery Science Theater 3000 and received DVD releases separate of the MST3k license. One thing I must confess is that I'm in awe of the imagination demonstrated in these Japanese shows. Yes, there are issues with budget constraints and some cheapness shows but the best Japanese material is on par with most notable science fiction shows produced in the United States and Great Britain at that time = Doctor Who, Star Trek, and Twilight Zone. It's just now that Ultraman has had this great push into the West. Like Doctor Who, there are parts of Ultraman that I like, and parts I don't care for. I generally like the first era Ultra shows best but there are later shows and movies that are not bad.
This is such a well made video! I actually learn a lot from this iceberg despite being the fans of this franchise for many years now! Just a slight complain though in 21:29 where you mentioned Cosmos as part of the blue tribe. Cosmos is an ultra outside of Land of Light universe so the rule doesn't applied to him. You should use Ultraman Tregear (Early Style) instead.
They have the two Ultraman docudramas posted online on RUclips. Only the first docudrama, "The Men Who Made Ultraman" (1989), has English subs. The second docudrama, "I Loved Seven" (or "I Loved Ultraseven") can be found with a kanji search = 私が愛したウルトラセブン . "I Loved Seven" does not have subtitles. It wasn't popping up under the English-translated name. MyDramaList gives a date of 1993 for this docudrama.
I remember watching the TNT Ultraseven dub on a bootleg dvd my dad bought, it even featured the Ultraman 80 episode where he fights an evil Ultraseven clone
58:29 this makes perfect sense because all of Ultraman Tiga's character arcs are from The Power Of Horny. Starts off a hero of light until his lover becomes corrupted by darkness. Returns to light after a beautiful woman convinces him. Kills his former lover after a beautiful human woman convinces him.
Can't forget that around the time when Orb eas veing aired, Tsuburaya introduced an arcade game where you can fuse two Ultraman together and fight monsters with it. I still have those cards with me.
It's cool to see, that in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX the anime Judai plays an Ultraman and the manga Judai plays a lot of Kamen Rider. Before this video I never knew that there was a Ultraman Neos.
I'm glad that Ultraman is entering the discourse so much lately because Tsuburaya Productions has been making such a big effort to reach out internationally. Makes me jealous since I'm a Kamen Rider fan.
Is this the same Ultraman that aired on TV in the west on Saturdays? I remember watching it when I was a kid on a channel call "Fox". On Saturdays, it becomes "Fox Kids".
Man if the we get ready player one scene Ultraman vs Mecha Godzilla. It's gonna be cool as heck. Because we might got to see how Ultraman gonna look like on a high quality movie.
23:38 That ain’t Man-San, that’s just Shinman aka Ultraman Jack. You can see the obvious silver color on the neck, the extra stripes on his chest, the back of the head which is from Ultraman Jack’s suit appearance in Ultraman Taro. The song blasting in the original footage is a cover of the Return of Ultraman opening theme song by Koji Tomaya, one of his song versions also appeared in Ultraman Leo episode 34: “The Ultra Brothers’ Eternal vow”.
Maybe it’s the fact that I first heard the English voices of Ultraman Zero, Z, Geed, and Belial from the ultra galaxy fight counterparts, but I just don’t think the ultra characters sound right in Ultraman Z. Why did they have to get different people to voice them, again? I still can’t believe they didn’t even try and get Eric Kelso to voice Ultraman Zero.
Love the editing on this, was planning to make a video on an iceberg like this, but im just dumb lol (Also, where are these "this video is about ultraman" videos? I REMEMBER THEM SO FONDLY, I THOUGHT THEYRE MADE UP BY MY MEMORY)
I own City Shrouded In Shadow, or Kyoei Toshi; I had to go directly to the Sofmap in Akihabara to get it and it's my very first Japanese game, forever in my collection. Not only does it have Ultraman, but it also has Godzilla, Mothra, Evangelion, Gamera, and Patlabor too. But there's no translation, so either learn Japanese or break out Google Translate if you wanna know exactly what's going on. Also it has a cameo for a popular chain of curry restaurants called Go! Go! Curry. This game does NOT take itself too seriously. :p
Impressive doc, but I think it lacked the mention of the hilarious Ultraman Graffiti, the Andromeros series and even Ultraman Melos. Even so, a discovered a lot of obscure stuff in all levels of the iceberg.
Great video and if you do a sequel problaby won’t but if you do shin robo was a robot made for a amusement park ride and was a combination of shin ultraman, shin Godzilla , shin kamen rider using his rider machine and eva 01 heck they made a suit for this it has 3 finisher’s And reference probably don’t count but this kinda introduce people to ultraman Ben 10 transformation called way big and species called tokustars And had it own episode that parody’s a original episode P.s fun coincidence that Ben has time limit in his Transformations and at least in the beginning had it flash red before he turns back
One addendum I would like to make is your comment on ultra signs. Now they are almost exclusively Japanese in a cypher. Originally however ultra signs were unique signatures of the ultra themselves. These signs are not translatable
this is my personal interpretation, but if you look a bit their signatures seem to be based on distorted versions of their japanese initials in katakana (i dont have a japanese keyboard rn so ill just use the romaji) Man: U rutoraman Seven: Se bun Jack: Ka ettekita Ace: E su Taro: Ta ro Zoffy: Zo fi- Leo and Astra's are a bit easier to tell because their signatures are based on their Hiragana spelling Leo: Re o Astra: A sutora

12:05 One thousand years of death. It can't get any closer than that 😂
Also thanks for the video. Really loving the nostalgia trip it gave me😂
This is such a well made video!
12:54 Ultraman and Zoffy's back head and neck was purely red (except type A ultraman) while Jack has white neck and his back head wasn't fully red.
Ultra great video!
This deserves more attention❤.

"It's worse than your mother in law"
WAS CRAZY😭
Zoffy was once publicized as the one bring Zetton to earth
now I see what Hideaki Anno done in 2022
Jack's mask is completely different to Man and Zoffy, the eyes are asymmetrical
It's cool to see, that in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX the anime Judai plays an Ultraman and the manga Judai plays a lot of Kamen Rider. Before this video I never knew that there was a Ultraman Neos.
I love how one work inspired another and another and another
It's like passing the torch in a sense
I'm glad that Ultraman is entering the discourse so much lately because Tsuburaya Productions has been making such a big effort to reach out internationally. Makes me jealous since I'm a Kamen Rider fan.
16:29 surprised you didn't mention my boy Jet Jaguar here maybe hes a little deeper on the iceburg but it just seems relevant to that subject
Here from the future, definitely getting into to series!
Is this the same Ultraman that aired on TV in the west on Saturdays? I remember watching it when I was a kid on a channel call "Fox". On Saturdays, it becomes "Fox Kids".
Excellent job ❤😛🍿😀💯👏🪭
No mention of Danger 5? I think it deserves a reference with the finale of the first season pretty much being a Sentai/Ultra parody
I wasn’t gonna mention every single Ultra parody out there, especially if they’re just small parts of an overall show.
@@Marcosatsu Fair, though I'd say Danger 5 is a parody of showa Ultra shows in general based on the way each episode pans out
Man if the we get ready player one scene Ultraman vs Mecha Godzilla. It's gonna be cool as heck. Because we might got to see how Ultraman gonna look like on a high quality movie.
The closest thing to Ultraman vs. Godzilla would be the Bandai Compati Heroes series games and the recent mobile game Godzilla Battle Line.
In my country of Thailand, we call the first Ultraman "Ultraman Hayata" since the main character's name is Hayata Shin.
ผมไม่ค่อยได้ยินนะ555 ส่วนใหญ่ อุลตร้าแมน หรือแมนเฉยๆ
23:38 That ain’t Man-San, that’s just Shinman aka Ultraman Jack. You can see the obvious silver color on the neck, the extra stripes on his chest, the back of the head which is from Ultraman Jack’s suit appearance in Ultraman Taro. The song blasting in the original footage is a cover of the Return of Ultraman opening theme song by Koji Tomaya, one of his song versions also appeared in Ultraman Leo episode 34: “The Ultra Brothers’ Eternal vow”.
I AM watching this in the future. Ultraman Rising was a great film
Damn straight ‼️
you forgot one thing, in 2016, Ultraman Tiga become a mascot for an internet provider named Bolt! in Indonesia
That’s in here
@@Marcosatsu looks like I've missed it
Zoffy, man and Jack look the same because they're torso almost have the same shapes
Sure I have the time to watch this entire thing
Maybe it’s the fact that I first heard the English voices of Ultraman Zero, Z, Geed, and Belial from the ultra galaxy fight counterparts, but I just don’t think the ultra characters sound right in Ultraman Z. Why did they have to get different people to voice them, again? I still can’t believe they didn’t even try and get Eric Kelso to voice Ultraman Zero.
0:18 then why is Jack there.
19:08 “what are you doing here your so SUS”
What is your favourite ultra character
So, that just leaves one question. Was Ultraman great from ultra Galaxy fight voiced by the same person from the Ultramen great dub.
Loved this!
Some of the Pingasified Ultraman themes have been reuploaded but they don’t last long. Ultraman 80 is the one reuploaded often
THIS IS WHAT I'VE ALWAYS WANTED
Odd and out of left field question but are the episodes on the Kamen Rider Wikis a Good area to watch the Kamen Rider Shows?
Love the editing on this, was planning to make a video on an iceberg like this, but im just dumb lol
(Also, where are these "this video is about ultraman" videos? I REMEMBER THEM SO FONDLY, I THOUGHT THEYRE MADE UP BY MY MEMORY)
Ultra Fight is unironically one of my favourite shows in the Ultra Series.
What about the time when the legendary idol Shioka Ishizuka appeared in Ultraman Z
In india, we had Ultra Man mebius in hindi dubbed, and it was amazing, and now we have uktra man z
the clip starting at 0:09 with the 9 bros transforming, where is that from?
Ultraman taiga movie
Where you recomend to start watching Ultraman ?
Yt
I own City Shrouded In Shadow, or Kyoei Toshi; I had to go directly to the Sofmap in Akihabara to get it and it's my very first Japanese game, forever in my collection. Not only does it have Ultraman, but it also has Godzilla, Mothra, Evangelion, Gamera, and Patlabor too. But there's no translation, so either learn Japanese or break out Google Translate if you wanna know exactly what's going on.
Also it has a cameo for a popular chain of curry restaurants called Go! Go! Curry.
This game does NOT take itself too seriously. :p
Are you telling me that the ultra brothers aren't actually brothers?
Impressive doc, but I think it lacked the mention of the hilarious Ultraman Graffiti, the Andromeros series and even Ultraman Melos. Even so, a discovered a lot of obscure stuff in all levels of the iceberg.
48:45
If will smith became ultraman his power move would’ve been Ultra Slap
18:09 why does it look similler to something else
Great video and if you do a sequel problaby won’t but if you do shin robo was a robot made for a amusement park ride and was a combination of shin ultraman, shin Godzilla , shin kamen rider using his rider machine and eva 01 heck they made a suit for this it has 3 finisher’s
And reference probably don’t count but this kinda introduce people to ultraman Ben 10 transformation called way big and species called tokustars
And had it own episode that parody’s a original episode
P.s fun coincidence that Ben has time limit in his Transformations and at least in the beginning had it flash red before he turns back
No mention of the Hindi and English dubs for Mebius and Zero movies produced by Nickelodeon India?
Excellent reviews of the Ultras so I can understand them after the epic Shin Ultraman.
I haven’t watched any Ultraman series, i plan on watching 66, Seven, and Tiga soon. Hopefully i can become a fan.
Ultraseven is the best Ultra😤
This needs the Blazar update next year
Yeah, most likely Getter Robo would win. If it was Shin Getter, there probably wouldn't be a match. Just forget it if Getter Emperor draws near.
11:40 *Arabic Ace Moments*
This an amazing deep dive!
As a Thai, purely mentioning Chaiyo hurts my soul... absolute shame
One addendum I would like to make is your comment on ultra signs. Now they are almost exclusively Japanese in a cypher. Originally however ultra signs were unique signatures of the ultra themselves. These signs are not translatable
this is my personal interpretation, but if you look a bit their signatures seem to be based on distorted versions of their japanese initials in katakana
(i dont have a japanese keyboard rn so ill just use the romaji)
Man: U rutoraman
Seven: Se bun
Jack: Ka ettekita
Ace: E su
Taro: Ta ro
Zoffy: Zo fi-
Leo and Astra's are a bit easier to tell because their signatures are based on their Hiragana spelling
Leo: Re o
Astra: A sutora
