In today's video I show you how to change your oil in your C7 Corvette with the dry sump, how to reset your oil life monitor and how to save A LOT of money doing it. The savings on the oil is not just limited to the C7 Corvette, though! Here is where you can go to check on Mobil 1's rebate status: bit.ly/2YAPqnU. The Corvette team has recently discussed the change they made to the accepted oil in this car. They changed over to a special ESP blend of 0w-40 that is good for both street and track use. This was NOT a mandatory change, however and isn't a "better" oil per se. I have not found this oil local yet so I have not thought too much about it. If I do find it locally, I will let you guys know.

This oil change was done in preparation for storing the car for winter. That will be a seperate upload to show all of the things I do to get the car ready for it's 3 to 4 month slumber. Stay tuned for that video! 👍
Random red arrow at 10:53. Not sure what happened there 🤣
you probably dont give a shit but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account?
I stupidly lost the login password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me
@Grey Roger Instablaster ;)
@Ford Blake I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process now.
I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Ford Blake it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much, you really help me out :D
Probably your best video. I’m a maintenance test pilot and picky about who I take advice from. Simple, easy, informative without unnecessary drama. Thanks.
Thank you!
I've read in multiple other places that you should really raise the car front and back to get all the oil out. If you're comfortable doing it while just raising the front that will certainly make my life easier. I'm about to do my own oil change on my 17 for the first time. Dealer cost here is $130.
Dealer here in NV charges me $298 like mf kick rocks 😂
@@victorgomez886what the actual F! Did they have a bandanna covering half their face and rob a train after you said no?
Hey Justin. I've owned a 1988 Z51 with the L88, a 1991 ZR-1 with the LT5, a CTS-V with the LSA, and I just bought (May 2023) a 2016 Z06 3LZ convertible with the LT4. I'm amazed...I've learned so much by watching your videos. I got my car set up just right for me without diving into the owner manual. Thanks for the content!
You’re very welcome!! These are amazing cars for sure!!
Excellent video bud! So many don’t fill the new filter, happy to see a video properly done! THANKS
Thanks! I'm glad I could help.
Great video Justin. Do you realize how much money this upload has just saved Vette owners ?? Wow bro...nice job. Changing mine this week-end. LOL Thanks man. HPO rocks !!!!!!
Thanks, JT! That's all I was trying to do. Put some money back in the pockets of the DIY'er! 🏎
Some people talk forever before giving the info. You get right to the point! Excellent video!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!
Good job! Nice ramps too! One other minor suggestion an ol mechanic taught me..... When you remove the old oil filter take a quick look to make sure the rubber gasket is still on the old filter you just took off. There is a very slight chance the old rubber gasket stuck to the engine block and when you install the new oil filter you will now have two gaskets....this would be a very leaky situation or worse....thanks again for walking us through this process!
I didn't show it on camera but I did check that! Definitely good tip for everyone, though!
Wish I’d read this comment before a few months back… VERY leaky situation 😂😂😂😂
Thanks for letting us know about the rebate and the difference in the AC Delco vs Mobil 1 filters!
You're quite welcome! They run this kind of promotion at least twice a year! Stock up when you can to save the most money.
I just bought a 7000 LBS Quickjack. I’ve never done any of this stuff before, but really look forward to doing this type of service myself
Very nice! I've been thinking about getting one of those.
HorsePower Obsessed I had already mentioned to you that my 2017 GS is my first non daily driver. It’s parked for the winter, but I’m still enjoying it. I’ve bought the the Quickjack, black nuts and all kinds of detail products.
What’s up with doing the oil changes on our own and the GM warranty?
I've read that as long as you have the receipts for oil and stuff you're covered.
I got a drain valve plug for all my cars. Makes doing oil changes so much easier and not have to worry about stripping drain plugs.
I thought about getting one of those before. Which one did you get?
@@HorsePowerObsessed ezoildrainvalve.com/index.html
That is what I went with. Much cleaner flow out of the car. I bought some thin zip ties which helps prevent some freak incident like driving over some rock that just perfectly bumps and twists the handle that opens the valve. I mean just how it works it would take some crazy event for that to happen but it's a easy thing for ease of mind.
I went to Jiffy Lube with my Crosstrek(big mistake) and they stripped my bolt and this at least prevents that nightmare from ever happening again.
I didn't know about that filter bypass thing. Thanks!
You're welcome! I'm glad I could help!
Yeah and neither does he!!! This idiot hack that made this video is not a mechanic!!! A bypass in an oil filter is there in case the filter becomes clogged up and starts building pressure. It allows the oil to return to lubricating the engine!!!! So if your filter becomes clogged, would you rather have the oil start returning SOONER OR LATER??? Because if you have chosen the AC delco filter, that answer is later.
Why do you think an aftermarket premium filter would have a lower psi bypass??? maybe to provide better protection than the shitty factory one???? DONT LISTEN TO ANYTHING THIS GUY SAYS ABOUT WORKING ON ANYTHING.
He is just a freaking RUclipsr and that's it
Good video 6 years ago.... New GM recommendation, Mobil 1 0W-40 Supercar oil. No kidding.
VERY good info on the correct filter.
My car in this video was a 2015 which GM said you can still use 5W-30 or the 0W 40. You don’t have to change.
No you don't have to change, but for a few reasons GM is in fact recommending 0W-40 Mobil 1. It has been proven to be better oil.
Good job, you were the only guy like me who fills the oil filter before installing! One suggestion, I recently saw on You Tube a very comprehensive test on oil filters. The Purolator Boss filter did the best job cleaning the oil, had very low restriction on flow at low and hot temp. I called Purolator up to find out the by pass press, they told me 24#, perfect! Part# PBL11403! Not cheap, but well worth it!
Thanks for the tip!
Nice. Just got my Stingray. First thing Im going to do. Fresh oil.
Always the first thing I do as well!
Thanks for the video! I just did the oil in my 2017 grand sport a few weeks ago. Just going to note for anyone who might read this, for the 2019s the switched over to Dexos approved Mobil One EOS 0W-40. It's pretty pricey but it's the new recommended oil. I believe it helps with burning oil under hard driving. I got it from Summit Point.
Yup. I had originally talked about that in my video but the time was running long so I cut it out. The 19's switched over to that and all of the C7's CAN run it if you want, but ultimately it was a better oil for track use that was also able to be used on the street. If you don't have a 19 you don't HAVE to switch but you still can. I still haven't been able to find the 0w-40 locally for a decent price, though.
Yeah that's the only recommendation for my srt charger hellcat too. 0/40 nothing more or less
Yeah, ordered 12 qts from Summit for my '19, it only cost an arm and a leg.
Just a heads up. The oil filter rubber gasket has a tendency to come off of the AC filter and stick to the block. It will mark it's spot in your garage or worse so make sure that that gasket is still on the filter after removal.
100%! Always a good idea to check that on any car!
A hugely important point is that oil filters prevent damage but not wear. 90% of wear is caused by sub-2 micron pulverized metals. The best oil filters catch 20 microns and larger. This is why older engines didn't bother with oil filters. Bottomline: the only way to filter your oil to prevent wear and tear is to replace it.
As such, it is much better to use cheap oil and change it more frequently than to use expensive oil and run it dirty. 15,000 mile recommended oil changes are just another way manufacturers collude to wear out customer engines faster.
I change my oil every 2000 miles, max. I strive for every 1000. I leave the filter to 10K miles bcs its a meanlingless item. As you point out, it only costs me half a tank of gas to do so, and the engine will last five times longer than one run dirty.
Another great tip is to use an $80 Mity pump, allowing you can change your oil in less than 5 minutes with outhout any wear and tear on aluminum threads. No need to warm up or dipstick, just replace the exact amount the pump measures out.
Yet another great tip is to add a $300 Amsoil or Franz toilet paper filter, if one fits your car. I'm sure they sell a Vette kit. This will ensure your oil is pristine, cleaner than new in the bottle, all the time. You can actually go 100K or more between oil changes, just change the TP roll every 20K for darn near free.
I never let my oil go for 15,000 mi even though the oil says it can I don't trust it. I had around 4,500 to 5,000 mi on this previous oil change That's pretty much as far as I'd push it.
@@HorsePowerObsessed
Yep, the more the better. I highly recomend a Mity pump (no affiliation) instead of the full service your excellent vid demonstrates. You can change your oil perfectly accurately in a flash from above, allowing you to keep it pristine. The filter can stay much longer, especially if you constantly change your oil to "filter" it. Plus you'll never need to remove/strip your drain plug.
Good tip! I am able to do it so fast with these race ramps I don't know if that would work for me but I appreciate the tip! 👍
@@HorsePowerObsessed
I have ramps too, but my Jag has a cover on the bottom with 1000 bolts. Its designed for a Mity pump with a pump hose nipple under the oil filler cap, and the filter is on top. Still, I change the oil much more frequently than the filter. But my V8S only takes 6 qts, sadly, so its more important for me to change the oil than your better designed 10 quart Vette.
But the pump has plenty of plastic hose to scavenge any car safely.
I love that filter on the top operation and if the Z06 had it on the top the mity pump would be my go-to! Also the Vette surprisingly doesn't have any undertray blocking the access of the drain plugs or oil filter, if it did, I may consider the pump for this car.
It was recommended to me to change the oil in the spring time when taking the car out of storage because of the changes in the temperature between fall, winter and spring there is a possibility of getting moisture in the oil from condensation
That's how I am doing it now.
Hey cool! Stuff I didn't know. I also use a torque wrench with an extension as required. These are steel plugs in aluminum threads. Strip those threads and you will not be happy. The torque spec is different for each plug, somewhere around 35 ft/lbs. Thanks. :)
Absolutely! I have been doing this forever it seems so I have a pretty good "feel" for where the plugs are "snug" but not over tightened so I usually don't use a torque wrench for this stuff. If it's something that is very sensitive to the amount of torque applied to the bolt, that is a different story. 👍
@@HorsePowerObsessed Every human being is different.
@@martinmdl6879 That's the beauty of being a car guy! Everyone has different ways of doing things and different taste. If it was all the same it would be boring! 😎
Just FYI: the torque spec if 18ft/lbs, not 35... snug is good but if your using a wrench be careful with that much torque! THX
@@devnull128 Yeah I thought 35 sounded extreme, my snug is right around 15 or so ft/lbs. I've done these so many times that I put right about the same amount of torque on them every time. Thanks for the heads up!
Need those race ramps for my garage.. Just bought a used Z06 this month thanks to you and others, but it’s time for oil change already.. Great video
Thanks! Not hard at all! Good luck with your Z06, they are awesome machines!
HorsePower Obsessed what’s the part number of the ramps? Thanks
Thanks for the info. Its all about saving money !!
Absolutely! Why pay more for it if you don't have to?
Great video! I suggest having the car level when changing the oil.
Thanks! We actually discussed lower in the comments why having this car level for oil change isn't necessary but ultimately its because it's a dry sump system it doesn't matter like it used to if it's level or not. 👍
This is awesome! I'm past due for an oil change lol. Great tips btw!
Thank you! Happy to help!
Thank you sir , oil change next week !
You're welcome! I have one for my truck next week, too!
Killer video. Saved in my library
Thank you! I appreciate it!
I punch a hole in the bottom of the oil filter to let it drain while I go have lunch.
Less mess when you do remove it.
Thank you for the correct bypass valve info, I nearly used a Mobil 1. fyi, both WL10290 & WL10290XP by Wix have the 22 psi bypass.
Yes they do! I chose to just use the AC Delco filter since that is what the manufacture calls for and it has been tested to be a pretty solid filter and the price is just icing on the cake. I know Wix makes good stuff, too so you're good either way as long as that bypass valve is right for the Vette. 👍
Use amsoil 100% synthetic 5-30 and there oil filter
I’ve magnetized the drain bolts so when I change the oil I can look for any metals floating around in the oil.
Nice!
Thanks for the information about the oil change
You're quite welcome! Thank you for watching!
GM is now and has been recommending 0w40 Mobil 1 oil that can be used for track or street. It is for all C7's except ZR1. I was told this by the Corvette Band Manager.
Totally right. You don't have to switch though and no track use for me so 5w-30 it is until I start seeing 0w-40 for less money.
Have you started using this yet?
Great Vlog Justin! I get my first 2 oil changes free, plus I paid 299 for 8 addition changes! General Lee Out!
Nice! It's a lot cheaper to do it yourself and I love the peace of mind. If you don't want to though that's definitely the next best way!
Thank you for the great video. You just saved me 24.00 so I thank you. (promotion is actually running right now until sept 30, 2020)
Awesome! I'm happy to help!

Yes sir! You can get them here: amzn.to/3kInNlY
Excellent instructional video Justin. I don't know if anyone makes them for the ZO6, but what about replacing the factory drain plugs with magnetic ones? Save the Wave.
They are made by companies like Dimple which make some of the best magnetic drain plugs out there. Those are on my list at some point.
Nice video! 😄
😆 Thanks!
Such a well explained video! Great job Justin!
Thanks, Jason! I'm glad you liked it! 👍
OK, we all know the deal, no such thing as a stupid question... yes there is! Hopefully this doesn't appear like that.
I had my 2nd free oil change at my dealership only because it was free, or would have done it myself.
If this wasn't a dry sump, I wouldn't ask this question. Back home and re-checked level couple hours later.
oil temp 175. waited 6 minutes engine off to check oil level. Dip stick reads about one quarter inch over hash marks, slight overfill Being a dry sump system, should I be worried about this? 2019 Grand Sport @ 9K miles changed at 17% oil life left. Thanks in advance for any feedback
You are fine. When the Z06 first came out with the dry sump GM stated 10 quarts of oil but then changed it later to 9.5. The slight overfill is no big deal.
i just changed my oil in my 16 c7. i did what you did just jacked up the front and pulled the front plug. well after it stopped draining and before pulling the side plug. i said i bet if i jack up the rear of the car there's more oil in that sump. so when i jacked up the rear of the car a little more than a half qt came out of the drain. so next time guy you may want to get the car jacked up level. or your still leaving a half qt of old oil in the sump.
I did the exact same thing the first time I did the oil change and literally NOTHING extra came out. Not worth the extra time for me but if you're getting that much more to come out then go for it 👍
@@HorsePowerObsessed did you just leave the front jacked up then pull the plug? then jack the rear up?
Yes. I drove it up on my ramps, drained both plugs for about 10 minutes and then thought for giggles I'd jack up the rear to be level with the front to see if anything additional came out and literally not another drop came out. That's why I stopped doing it. Wasn't worth the extra time/effort for me. 🤷
@@HorsePowerObsessed i guess i needed to just let the dranning process happen for a longer time while just the front was jacked.
That would be my guess. Otherwise I'm not sure what else could be different.
Very informative video. My local dealership is $100 on my Zo6 not hundreds but. If yours is I can see why you would want to do it.
Even at 100 this is a significant savings plus peace of mind it was done right. My dealership wanted 169.99 for full synthetic. I've seen people saying over 200 at some which is just ridiculous. I'll take my full synthetic change for under 40 👍
Really well done videos. Appreciate all the good info. Beautiful car, man!
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words.
Hey man. Quick question. You say 0W-40 for your ZR1, and 5w-30 on the Z06. What’s the difference? My 19’ zo6 said use 0W-40. Why did you use 5w? Are our engines different?
No, not different at all. GM made the decision to change oils around 2019. You can use either oil. 5w-30 is easier to get but the 0w-40 is supposedly better to run for street/track in the Z06.
I was looking at some tools we need for this oil change. Looks like the ramps are the most expensive. $400+ 😲😲
They are expensive but also very useful!
@@HorsePowerObsessed Is it useful only for oil changes? I'm evaluating ramps vs. jack stands. What is your opinion?
I've used them for everything from oil changes to exhaust swaps.
Best oil change video I have ever seen. Btw, oil life in C7 seems very short ~ 4-5 months (
Thank you! It's an algorithm of time and usage. Typically, if not driven, it will last about a year before it hits 0%.
Very nice video and good deal to save money on oil change 👍
Thanks 👍
I have a 2011 grand sport with drysump. I'm going to buy the race ramps soon. I'm undecided between the solid 67 in. And the 2 piece 67 in. As far as having the car level to drain the oil. Some say you need to and others say you don't. I would think your getting it all out the way you did it ? Great video
Thank you. You can get it done with either of the 2 ramp setups but the big thing to keep in mind is storage. It's harder to store the ramps that don't come apart. With that said, I am able to get all of the oil out because the drains are at the back of the "pan" area so being at this angle actually helps push it all out.
@@HorsePowerObsessed I think the 2 drain plugs on the C6 with drysump are closer to the front. Do you think it would hold that much more than yours ? If I drain it the way you did ?
Can you do a detailed video on lowering your Z06 on the stock bolts? (using a floor jack, not a lift)
Thanks!!!
My car is already lowered but I did have intentions on going over the process of doing so! I did mine with a floor jack so I will go over that at some point soon! Stay tuned! 👍
You’re the man!!!!!
Thank you! 😎👍
So easy. Use pucks and Jack up each corner. Then put jack stand under leaf spring and lower it very slightly got he point where the load is transitioned from the Jack and puck onto the Jack stand and leaf spring. 10 mm wrench counter clockwise then jack back up and remove jack stand. You don't have to remove the wheels. Access the bolt from behind the front and rear tires when it up. Took me about 20mins.
Just got done watching your oil change on your C7 where did you get your filter wrench from let me know
Advance auto parts. Works great!
Isn't it 0w40 weight recommended for 2019 Z06?
Chevy changed it for 2019 but prior to it was 5w-30.
Since I already have the ramps, next comes buying the oil during the rebate window and I'll be on my way saving some money. This is very helpful, my local chevy dealer is horrible, if you want a job done right, check RUclips, HorsePower Obsessed, and do it yourself!
Thank you! I started doing this stuff myself because of the same experiences I was having at dealerships. When you can get it done better and cheaper it's really a no brainer.

My 2019 uses 0W-40 Dexos 2 Mobile 1, and Wix also makes a good filter, unless they are making them in China now.

@@HorsePowerObsessed I am the only one who has changed it, except for Jackie Wolfe, Bergland Chevrolet Buick in Roanoke Virginia, at about the 500 mile mark. Excellent service technician. He showed me everything and torqued the drain plugs to the factory specs. Atlantic City to Texas.
Thx alot
You're welcome!
You need to show us also how to do a complete clutch fluid flush because we have to remove the exhaust system to get to the bleeder valve underneath. Dealers charge an arm and a leg 🦵
The best method for this is called the ranger method. You really don't have to drain it from under the car if you do this often. Check out this video here: ruclips.net/video/zlI4Jdp_mtQ/видео.html
You didn’t mention how many quarts you finally used?, TY🙏🏼😇
9.5. Every single time I change the oil it’s always 9.5.
Best vid on C7 oil change yet. Please send a copy to the Chevy dealers of America so thy can train their employees
Thanks! I would definitely do that if I thought they'd really use it. Do you know a good way for that to be done?
Send a copy to their chief engineer. They should care about the right procedures for their technicians to use even for the most mundane but most important maintenance task. Last oil change I had done at the dealer in November the OLM was not reset. I am sure they did not bring engine to operating temperature to check level. On star notified the dealer that I was due for an oil change. Pretty amazing since I only drove 350 miles since November. After my free oil changes are used up I will never go back to the dealer.
I hear ya there. I don't trust the dealership to do anything, unfortunately. I'll look into sending it out to them and see what happens! Thanks for the tip.
New to the channel and really appreciate the honest and matter of fact videos. I am a prospective C7 z06 buyer and your insight is swaying me in a positive direction. Thank you and I look forward to more videos.
That's great to hear! I'm happy to help and LOVE the fact that you like the videos. Feel free to ask questions any time! I'm happy to help especially a fellow Corvette enthusiast! 👍
I suppose it saves money... But only if you actually already own the ramps. Those puppies with the extensions come in at $600+. That's quite a few oil changes at the dealer/lube shop.
And a lot of potential damages from having the dealership or lube shop change your oil. It's well worth it no matter how you look at it.
Just wondering bro, with the nose of the car higher wouldn’t that keep the oil from draining completely?Especially with that front drain plug?
It won't. A few others have confirmed with the dry sump oil tank it doesn't matter if it's drained with the nose up.
Just had my oil changed at dealership. First 2 oil changes are free. But asked about how much is an oil change when I get the next one. Expensive, asked why so much. He said because it takes 11 quarts of oil... Noticed you only but 10 quarts in the car... Which is the correct amount?
Very expensive. Definitely one of the reasons I do it myself. The manual actually calls for 9.8 quarts but I start off with 9.5 and then add a little bit more until filled.
With the drain plug in front and the car raised in the front aren't you leaving some oil behind in the pan?
I've done this process both raised in the front and with the car completely level and managed to pull no extra oil out. As some of the previous comments stated the dry sump system isn't quite the same as a normal setup and it doesn't so much need to be level anymore. It doesn't hurt to make it level but you don't really need to from my experience.
@@HorsePowerObsessed Thanks, just ordered the 67" extensions for my race ramps and will now change my own oil.
Nice! It's really easy to do with those ramps! 👍
After how many miles do you usually do an oil change?
I'm usually right around 5k but I typically do it once a year after winter storage.
Great video 👍🏽
Thank you!
Great info brother, I think I can follow your lead and do my oil change, thank you. Is there anything else I should know? I have a 2019 Z06 automatic. Ray
Thanks! If you follow this you'll be good to go!
Where'd you buy the ramps to do the oil change?
Right here: amzn.to/49EoiYd
I’m surprised how easy it is. How often are you changing your oil?
Once a year usually. 👍👍
Excellent video. Question...would I need the ramp extensions on a non-lowered C7?
Most likely yes. The difference in lowered and not lowered is only about 3/4 of an inch.
Great videos. I may have missed it in the video, but what are the times of year that Mobil has the coupon for the synthetic oils?
Thank you. It seems to be random but they typically have the offering at least twice a year.
nice vid..i have an 18 gr.sports...i have still 1 more compl. factr. oil channge..what do u thinc about amzoil?? ive been using it 4 years..prob.better than mobil??
Chevrolet calls for Mobil 1 so in my opinion, that's the oil to use here. If you want to go "better" there's only a few out there and amsoil would be one of them but it will also cost you a lot more.
Thanks man great video
Thank you!
Hey Justin how many miles do you change your oil?
Every summer. Usually around 5k miles.
Loved ur job bro
Thanks a ton!
Thank you, whet solution or liquid do you recommend to clean the drain plugs?
They are very easy to just wipe off with a dry cloth.
I wonder if the 72" Race Ramps will work without extension for a Grandsport/Z06 front end?
It definitely will if you are not lowered all the way down like I was. If you are, it still might.
i just sold my gt 350 2016..always ussed amsoil..now i have 1 of these..why not amzoil..suppossed 2 be the best?
You absolutely can use Amsoil, but it's a lot more expensive, not as readily available, and GM specifically calls for the mobil 1 oil for these cars.
Hi Justin. I am back with another question. How accurate is the oil monitor on a C7 Z06. After driving about 1200 miles the oli life monitor said 0%. So do I need to change my oil? Or can I still drive it up until 3000 miles or more? This is where I am confused. I know for a fact that with a syntheic oil the car can be driven for up to 5000 miles or more, but looks like the oil monitor does not correspond with the acutal mileage driven. So based on your expertise what do you think I should do. Should I keep driving the car despite the fact that oil life monitor says 0%? Or should I change the oil? Thank you so much.
I would change it when the monitoring system says to. There are many factors taken into consideration with the system other than just milage the second big one being time. Oil degrades over time even if it isn't used so if the car sits for months at a time like mine does here in the winter, the oil life still goes down. Synthetic oil changes are typically good for a year or 10k miles whichever comes first.
Just finished watching your Oil Change RUclips, very good instruction. Only have one question. I have a 2019 Z06 and on my fill cap in states to use "Mobil SAE 0W-40 dexos2", And on your cap in the video yours says "SAE 5W-30". What is the correct weight to use? Thanks
Thank you! In 2019 they changed the oil requirements for the cars so follow what your cap says. 👍👍
When in doubt do what the car says. I have a 2015 ZO6 auto. So much fun.
Do you pull off the ramp before or after the temperature warm up
I usually do it as one. I start the car, back if off the ramps, and then let it idle until it hits temp.
@@HorsePowerObsessed Thanks
Very informative video. I have a question thou. Does the mileage of the car determines what kind of oil you choose? I saw that you use 5W-30. Obviously I dont know how many miles you have on your car, but is this the right oil for Corvettes? Because I have read that for a C7 Corvette its recommendation is 0W-40. So what do you think as to which one is the right or as I asked does it have to do with the car's mileage. Also, do I have to use 9.5 quarts? it seems little too much. I thought I should be about 9.2 quarts. So please correct me on this if i am wrong. thanks.
Thank you very much! 9.5 quarts has been the exact right amount for me in my Z06 and in my ZR1. Your mileage may vary.
So is it OW-40 or 5W-30?
@@adamrodriguez9423 Use 5W-30 for your Corvette always.
It is 0W-40 For the 2019 cars, anything other than that was 5W-30.
@@HorsePowerObsessed mine is 2019, just asking for when it arrives, waiting on it to ship to me.
What do you do with the old oil?
Good question. I take the oil to my local Advance Auto Parts and recycle it for free.
Nice job dude
Thank you.
Nice job!
Thanks!
Is the oil change process the same for the Stingray Z51? And do you need the extensions if the car isn’t lowered? Great video thanks!
Thank you! It is the same process for the Z51 and no you shouldn't need the extensions if it isn't lowered.

Why did you use Extended Performance Mobil 1 instead of Advanced Fuel Economy Mobil 1? I live in Florida and drive mine year round.
Where is the cheapest place to buy the 67" Race Ramps?
Thanks
I use the extended performance because it has the most protection. Amazon is likely the cheapest place for the race ramps.
I have a 2015 C7 Z06 3LZ and was wondering what oil to put.. is it the 5w-30 you used ? I've done some research and Chevy claims that now they are using the Mobil1 ESP 0W-40 for both street and track. Can I use it for my 2015 or it has to be the 2019 +?
You can use that for any C7 according to Chevy. It's a little harder to find and more expensive, though.
Great Video. When installing the drain plugs onto the car do you need to torque them with a torque wrench or a good snug turn will do just fine? Thanks
Snug is fine. You don't want to over torque them, though.
SO, I'm confused about the total oil added. Specs say 9.8 qts. IF you fill the new filter before installing from one of the 5 qt. jugs, then add all the remaining oil from both jugs will it be overfilled??
Correct. Overall 9.5 puts it at a perfect level for me.
Any reason why 0W-40 full synthetic motor oil was not used in this case? Or 3w-50 is enough.
5w-30 is more than enough for these cars and it wasn't "required" until 2019. The biggest reason for the change is because the 0w-40 was a more suitable oil for both street and track use.
@@HorsePowerObsessed
Suppose I do not track the car then 3W-50 is enough? I’m about to start my DIY oil change. Your video will be playing my side when I go under the car.

I am still waiting for my 2019 GS convertible with z07 to be shipped from Ohio. I like to learn how to do basic stuff. Your channel is so helpful. Thank you for all your time and effort to help newbie Vet owner like myself.
This must be the silliest question . But, do we need to put any oil in the dry sump? What does the dry sump do?
After you drain the oil you just fill it up through the fill port in the engine bay. You don't have to do anything else other than that.
They are expensive but man they have paid for themselves 100 times over for me.
My oil for my 2019 z51 is ESP ow-40 i got it online its cheap there. Lol
Yup. I originally had a section in this video about that but cut it due to time. I am still trying to find the 0w-40 for a good price locally.
Good job on this video brother
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.
So i have a question for you sir , since you have the blk zr1 i see you still have the red waterfall , wondering if you will sell it or not ?
I may be selling it. If you're interested send me an email. Horse.Power.Obsessed@gmail.com.
@@HorsePowerObsessed do you personally think that it would be to much red in a blk vette with the red interior ?
Is it better to have the car level?
It doesn't matter with the dry sump. I've done it both ways and with the car tilted in the back it seems a hair more drains out.
Question.... anyone knows how much it cost for an oil change at the dealership? I got a 2019 C7 GS with only 2,990 miles. So far it says that oil life at 82%, I would like to know how much it cost. Because if it's too expensive then I'll get a Race Ramp and do it myself and keep that Race Ramp for many years of usage.
I've seen as high as 200.00. 😬
