While the oil is almost drained, I pour in about a cup of the new oil so that it flushes the bottom of the oil pan. And always wipe clean the outside of the new oil filter because it may stink when it gets hot!
Just changed the oil on my Grand Sport yesterday! The following models use 9.5 quarts: Stingray Z51, Grand Sport, Z06, and ZR1 - all have dry sump. 5W-30 is fine, however Mobil 1 has made a special 0W-40 mix just for the LT1 and LT4 engines. that performs better. Mobil 1 ESP 0w-40
One trick I learned with my QJ's and oil changes. A 5 gallon bucket will just fit under oil pans. Loosen the drain bolt, side the bucket under, reach up and remove the bolt. No mess! Put a lid on the bucket and take it in to an auto parts store for recycling when it's full.
Agreed Dan. Wish all cars were that easy to reset oil light. my jeep is same way. My Porsche I think is similar but with hidden menus and usage of the stalk on the column. Plus no physical dipstick which sucks. Just digital.
1) Get yourself a nice set of snap on Metric wrenches, and filters are hand tight only. 2) I'd like to hear your thoughts on the C7 vs. the Ferrari. I have a supercharged C5 and the bang for the buck is simply beyond reproach.
Snap on are expensive as hell. No reason to spend that kind of money in my opinion. I think the C7 is a great affordable sports car but it's not as good as the Ferrari.
Whoa...thought I was seeing double there for a minute. Then I thought "Who has the rosso F-car that's helping Dan do his oil change?". Sweet lift! I want one..... now!
I have been doing research on oil filters. As far as I know the PF64 is the only filter that has the correct 22 psi bypass that the car requires. GM has a service bulletin 17-NA-157, Sept 2023, that says you must use the PF64. I just fount the WIX has 22 psi,,, Wix WL10290.
I have a 2019 C7. Great and precise video. TY. Question for you. Re your Quik-Jack. R u happy with it or for a few more $, would you have gone with a home garage hoist? I'm fence sitting. Thx.
Neophyte. Red solo cup over the oil filter after you break it loose. Put your shop vac into the oil fill hole n turn it on. It will hold the oil in until you remove the oil plug. Position your tub under but away from the hole because it’s gonna shoot the first few quarts n shut the vac off. On the oil filter there’s a gasket. Take new oil n dip a finger into it n rub it on the gasket surface. Fill the filter most of the way with new oil before installing it.
Lucky! My Miata is hard as freakin hell to get the oil filter out. I thought Hondas were bad with the filter on the back of the block facing the firewall, but the Miata filter is in between the block and the subframe!
@@normalguysupercar no kidding, it's making me seriously consider an oil filter relocation setup. If I had that plus an oil extractor device, I could do oil changes without even getting underneath the car at all!
Great video. From the owners manual, Chevy recommends Dexos2 or better oil. Normal off the shelf 5w-30 doesn’t meet this standard. Had to special order mine for 2019 C7. Couldn’t find it anywhere local. I ordered Mobil 0W-40 Supercar oil. I think I even saw Dexos on you oil cap? Thanks for the great information
Hey Dan! I have a c7 myself and plan on doing an oil change soon. Where could I find that jack system that you use to lift the car? Also, I’d love to see where you got that universal oil filter remover. Please let me know! Thank you
Ok now. Did I tell you this? Filled up with Shell. Went on a trip on state highways. 155 mile one way. Average Hwy speed 55. Got 32 mpg. Very little city driving. Filled up with no-name gas, only available. Went back same way. Got 28 mpg. Temp 60-70 F. Was it the gas? Don’t know. Today did another trip with some city and stop and go on the freeway. Average speed 65. Got 26mpg. Temp 70-85F. Didn’t use air. It has been awhile I have taken the SLK230 on these trips so I have no way of judging mileage. I haven’t kept a log. Have a good day.
So you have a prefillmed jag oil change video on the Jag right? Unless its a real jag in which case is leaks oil so much that you change it by just constantly refilling it we it leaks out the bottom.
Looks like the oil pan wraps around the oil filter about half way, my friend has a truck that has that kind of set up for his truck, and it's annoying when the filter gets really difficult to loosen.
Just helped a friend with this job. Not a dry sump. What's the second "drain plug" on the oil pan for? I know the dry sump has you remove two but what's the second one for here? Do they just use the same pan? Thanks...
Why would there be a problem working under it? It has mechanical locks just like every lift does, big or small. No one should ever work under a raised vehicle supported by hydraulic pressure only.
WTQuack?? Where is the "EPIC DISASTER IN GARAGE! PREVIOUS SERVICE DESTROYS C7 VETTE! @@@OIL EVERYWHERE@@@CROSS FINGERS AND TOES THAT IT EVER RUNS AGAIN!!!!" Haha that is simpler than my c5 z06... it has to be tilted 6" lower in the front to drain all the oil out
I am 90% sure a base c7 stingray without z51 has a wet sump, one plug, and holds about 6 1/2 quarts. Every other corvette c7 (z51 stingray, GS, Z06, ZR1) has a dry sump, 2 plugs and holds nearly 10 quarts.
Sad, has no idea how much oil to use in his car, (owners manual?). If dry sump, has two drain plugs, once again owners manual. Removes filter but does not bother to clean filter area before placing new filter on. So, have not learned anything about a correct oil change.
Get yourself a real oil catch pan. A C7, a Ferrari, and an $8 cheapo Walmart oil catch pan. Oh, and the owners manual will tell you what the oil capacity is 😂
There are 2 drain plugs. Not one. And it's 9.8 quarts. Draining half the oil...wonder how many people watched this video and have been changing some of the oil and leaving 4 quarts of dirty oil in the engine.
So I guess the title of your next video will be "I got arrested on live TV in front of millions of people"? At least on the bright side you can now say your channel has been "featured" on Live PD. LOL. Side note: Why do cops act like doing ~100MPH in a Ferrari is just as dangerous as doing it in something like a Civic? It's not. A 458 will outperform a Civic in stopping power at double the speed. It's not fair to treat these cars the same when it comes to speeding tickets. Doing 100MPH is reckless in a Civic but can be absolutely safe in a Ferrari 458 with some basic common sense (e.g. not in rain, not in heavy traffic, etc.). Our highways were even modeled after the autobahn and people routinely do well over 100MPH on it without any issues at all as long as basic safety rules are followed.
I was thinking the same thing last night... They said they had to go 150 to catch us... How is it that is OK that officers in giant shitty SUVs can go that fast, but if I drive 100 in a Ferrari I'm reckless? Mind you I've also had years of driving experience in race tracks at the limits of cars too... Strange world man.
The placement of the oil pan and oil filter is literally so convenient
Oh yeah super easy access
I could never leave that oil all around where the oil filter goes and not wipe it before I put the new filter in
