Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of Samurai Jack: The Shadow Of Aku for the Nintendo GameCube developed by Adrenium Games and published by SEGA.
Cartoon Network's Samurai Jack comes to game consoles in The Shadow Of Aku, a simple beat 'em up sure to please the show's youngest fans. Playing as Samurai Jack, players travel to four different worlds, each with its own hub and levels. And problems. Jack must battle evil and help save each area if he hopes to find what he's searching for. The Shadow Of Aku features an original story written specifically for the game. The gameplay is simple and accessible, focusing mostly on sword attacks and combos. If you've played any licensed beat 'em up games, chances are you've played something like The Shadow Of Aku. Its gameplay follows a basic template and does it well. Samurai Jack: The Shadow Of Aku offers single and local multiplayer play.
This video review features video gameplay footage of Samurai Jack: The Shadow Of Aku for the Nintendo GameCube and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's Derek. - Игры
It's pronounced "ahh-koo", not "a-koo". Like you're sneezing, just with a "koo" instead of a "choo".
I hate when people say an indie studio, like "any" indie studio. Just because it's "indie doesn't make it automatically good. You need to give it to a studio or developers that know the franchise really well and that appreciate it's art style. And also the more production value the better just like how South Park the stick of truth got the gold treatment. Indie for me doesn't cut it, it's developers with a good track record or a people who know the cartoon well enough to create something that won't tarnish the name.
From what I gathered, this game haphazardly tries to emulate the strengths of the show, but falls short, and with it being a licensed game, and especially since it was for a show that would be getting discontinued the same year it's game came out, time constraints may be partially to blame for its fall backs. Also, something to be said when Zelda Wind Waker looks more like a Samurai Jack game than the actual Samurai Jack game we got. My idea of a perfect Samurai Jack game would have been something that looks and plays alot like wind waker, but translates the beautiful visuals of the show and introduces gameplay mechanics that would be influenced by the show (unlocking a steed based off that horse-thing from episode 3, the robot arm he used against the mondo bots, etc.) I could live with the best Samurai Jack game having been a really pretty Zelda clone...
I FINALLY FOUND THIS CHANNEL AGAIN AFTER A YEAR OF SEARCHING!!!
Ace The Typhlosion and also this channel is dead
bro, it was literally on the gamecube, give it a break, i absolutely loved this game as a kid, the graphics were a huge upgrade from the nintendo 64
This game came out one year after f zero gx on the same system one of the most beautifull game ever
This license needs to be taken up by a indie studio and made in a 2d, side-scrolling fashion, in the style of the cartoon. That would be awesome.
Dude wtf this game is boss. The gameplay is really good.
I know right you have many weopons and enemies to fight and bosses you can learn new moves with scrolls I have this on gamecube
Just wait a few more years when the kids that grew up with Nintendo 64 are in their late twenties. Then bland textured polygons will become a highly stylized look and we'll have amazing indie games with shitty looking polygon graphics.
the 2d games made these days have stylized or polished graphics, even 8 bit games usually have detailed pixel art or good lighting. no one makes bad graphics on purpose.
Low count polygons don't usually look good.
yes thank you, that is exactly why that wont happen.
It's funny because I would personally do that if I made a game. 64-bit 4 lyfe.
Most artists are inspired by child hood nostalgia. Sometimes they're influenced by crappy movies and make subtle masterpieces like Jackie Brown other times they're way less subtle about their influences and make Django Unchained. It's called kitsch. The general rule is that you can't shine shit but you can put tinsel on it. You can still be influenced by ugly graphics and make a great game because the shitty graphics are part of the charm.
I have this game and I am a HUGE Samurai Jack fan. I love it but I do have to agree on the style aspect. It does look cool BUT not doing it in the cell shaded Wind Waker style was a huge missed opportunity especially seeing how this was on the Gamecube which proved it could do cool cell shaded graphics. I recommend for fans of Jack.
why does everyone keep shitting on this game? its an underated game compare this game to et on the atari
i actually liked the game
fancychu productions it was eh
Did that bunch of Gamecube games include Killer 7? Because I'd love to hear your thoughts on that one. Just be warned that you'll either love it or hate it. There's apparently not much of an in-between.
I hope Platinum games can make a side story game since season 5 is coming back!
looks way better than the PS2 Samurai Jack game
plz come back
For some reason there's a Samurai Jack rerun on Toonami even on adult swim.
Strange. Did Derek really watch the cartoon series? If he did then he would have known it has only been pronounced as "Ah-Coo" where 2nd part sounds as in word Cool, not "eeh-ku" or "eayah-ku"
I wish that they had a Samurai Jack game for the Xbox One and PS4
They do now
ALSO THIS CHANNEL WAS MADE ON MY BIRTHDAY!!!
i would liek to see a samurai jack game similar to Muramasa
If they were to make a Samuari Jack game today, it should be made by either Microsoft Stuidos or Platinum Games.
I'd hope it were either Platinum or WayForward.
Must break the number post
"2D is cool again!"
I know, right? You know what recent 2D game is cool? So cool in fact that it's downright freezing?
DONKEY KONG COUNTRY: TROPICAL FREEZE!!!!
C'mon Derek, how could I pass on that line? You owe us a review, cough it up.
