An Ancient Egyptian platforming adventure from the makers of... those rad 007 games?! DUDE, we need to check this out! / nitroradofficial / nitrorad / nitrorad
Between this and Ty, it's nice that lesser-known PS2 titles are starting to get decent PC ports. I also wonder if THQ Nordic will be restoring any cut content.
The depiction of Tutankhamun in this game actually appears to be relatively accurate. Despite what many would think, the boy was lanky and frail, being afflicted with several congenital defects and generally suffering ill health. Scientists have been able to virtually model what he probably looked like-- and let's just say, he wasn't a looker... So, the game got him pretty spot on, which I liked.
The only thing you forgot to mention is the soundtrack. This games soundtrack is really the cherry on top for the Egyptian world. Absolutely genius. Check it out
I am getting major Deja vu from this game. I swear I've played it at some point years ago and yet I remember little to nothing about it. Also the fact the game ends on an unresolved cliffhanger is pretty disappointing.
All I want is a sequel to finally resolve that bloody cliffhanger. It’s been 15 years! THQNordic own the rights to the game! Make a bloody sequel already, to this hidden masterpiece!
+Shesez to be brutally honest that's theFIRST thing I thought when I saw this games cover hahaha If anything this game is definitely a testament to why you shouldn't judge a nook by its cover!
Yo but real talk, I wanted this game so badly when I was a kid. I remember seeing this game in the store and thinking to myself I want to get this one day. And I never did. I'm so glad I'm watching this video, it feels like everything has come full circle. I can finally see what this game is like. Thank you for uploading this.
I'm so glad you liked it! Such an under appreciated platformer. THQ Nordic specifically bought the IP a little while back as you say, which does perhaps hint at a rerelease; I sincerely hope so because it deserves to be enjoyed by more people!
This is the kind of game that shows what can happen when a game isn't simply mass produced. The devs didn't get any chances to make games of their own so when the chance arrived they really put their heart and soul into it and it really shows. Another great review of a great game I've never heard of.
This game just got a physical release on the Switch, and your review helped me decide to buy it. Thank you!! Maybe enough people will play it so they'll make a sequel??
I absolutely loved this game. I was amazed at how long and involved it was. I had a blast playing it and finding ways to work around the puzzles. However this game was so long and involved I figured I would never play it again. So I gave it away to charity....I might regret that decision now, but it's not like I can't get another copy. Plus I let some other kid have a ton of fun with it years ago and now they have fond memories of it too. I'm glad this game exists, and it definitely deserves an HD re-release.
Great video, Nitro! This game was my childhood, an absolute classic. You should consider checking out Metal Arms: Glitch in The System. Another game of similar quality and caliber. I'll throw in a side suggestions to check out Destroy All Humans! as well.
He mentioned that he was defiantly going to order a copy of Metal Arms and save it for a future review in a reply to my message on his FaceBook page. He has never heard of it and said it looks sick. Can't wait for that review! :D
Both of those games were total gems back in the day! Metal Arms in particular deserves a sequel or at least a proper remaster but seeing as Activision is sitting on the license and doing absolutely nothing with it, chances of that happening is literally zero.
The reason Sphinx looks so smug is because he is smug! He knows he's the best at what he does and he shows it. Every facial expression show "yeah that's right.... I'm better then you!" His climbing animation.....uhhh... Yeah I don't know either chief...
From what I understand, there was talk about bringing the game to the Nintendo Switch, since the Switch's audience would be perfect for this kind of game.
Xem at around 16:50 in the video it shows the latter half of this claim but i havent personally seen any sources saying it was going to get ported. i could be totally wrong
It came to Switch in February of 2019 I believe. I picked up the only physical copy of it at my GameStop on launch day and don't regret spending the $20 at all.
I picked up this game entirely based on this video that I saw 2 years ago and man, you were so right. Amazing game, good looking and holds up really well today. Let's hope that the switch release sells well and that we get a sequel for it !
The fast travel system freaked my the hell out when I was younger. Also, props to this game for being the only game I can think of where you move at decent speed when carrying something.
Falco started that trend, and i'm used to it by this point, it's more odd when the bird is nice to you, like Kass in botw, he's my favourite npc in the game
There’s a great Egyptian Style FPS on the Sega Saturn callled PowerSlave, and it’s great. You might like it, as it has a lot of Metroid-like & even some platformer-like elements, even though it’s primarily a shooter.
I love this game, especially playing as the mummy. The only game I've played that the point is to get electrocuted or on fire, instead of avoiding traps like that.
Used to play the crap out of this game - finished it twice back to back because it really is a damn fun game! Such a shame it didn't get the attention it deserved but I really hope it gets a release on Steam and current gen consoles with a lovely HD face lift to polish up the textures and adding modern graphical effects whilst retaining the art style of the original game. I would buy that in a heartbeat.
Sphinx was one of my favorite games on the Gamecube and the ending left me wanting more so badly! They did eventually do an HD rerelease on Switch, so hopefully THQ Nordic gets around to a sequel!
I swear, the 6th gen has something for obscure 3D platformers. But hey, I think it's definitely possible for this game to get a sequel, port or maybe if we're a lucky, a remaster. Like you said, anything at this point is possible.
> port or maybe if we're a lucky, a remaster Those are one and the same. They really are. One is just a fancy-schmancy word for the other meant to fool the masses into thinking there's more to ports than there really is. It's only logical the devs are going to bump up the resolution and use higher res textures (that are leftovers from the original development cycle) in a port on more powerful hardware. In my eyes, if the game still has the same level & character geometry, the same amount of polygons, it's just a port.
There was a squeal planed, but it never got finished. All the people that worked on it moved on to other companies before it was finished. Maybe if it gets remastered or a remake, maybe they can finish the story.
I the bonus videos in the game there's so much cool gameplay that was never put into the game. Like traveling to the next island on the boat in metropolis i believe and when the one bird tells you to look for him to go on another mission, telling you where he is, and you never find him! And what about when you plant all the trees and it never rains! There's so much more they left out, us players NEED it remastered and finished!!
Oh man! Sphinx was one of the first video games I ever bought, I'm glad you were able to play and enjoy it even a decade after it came out -- and I still can't believe Eurocom ended it with a cliffhanger >.
I count on you for showing these obscure games I never came across or had a chance to play. This one looks really cool and fun. I'm going to check it out thanks to you. Thanks for doing what you do. You're awesome. :)
Sphinx and the cursed mummy is one of my most favourite games ever! I was so surprised to see that you did a fully in depth video on it. It's a great game and a huge part of my childhood!

This is legit one of the most special games I ever had for PS2. Actually, this was the only game my Mum ever owned. Don't know why but my Dad bought it for her birthday. She never showed any interest in the PlayStation before, but she watched me go through the game start to finish and hence it's why this is one of my all time favourites :3
This is a great game, I haven't played A.C. Origins, yet, so I can't compare them, but Sphinx and the Crursed Mummy is fun and a more unique style of gameplay than most games released 2day :)

Followup on my months old comment: Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy for for PC has been confirmed by THQ Nordic. Yep, from now on I'm calling you my "lucky Canadian" because almost every time you do a video on an obscure sixth generation 3D platformer I really want to play, an updated HD port gets announced not long after (hell even ones you didn't like such as Ty have PC ports now).
Well the girl with the blue hair (channel icon) is the "Nana" in "Nana-Kyoto" (just in the "casual" outfit I designed) As for the channel banner, that is an original character (only in her "slim" form) and for thumbnails, she is in her "thick" form. Does that answer your question?
I am so glad you liked this game. I bought a used copy years later just for the cover art and was blown away by how great it was. Really wish they'd make the sequel! Please for the love of God! (So happy there was a rerelease!)
I still remember seeing this game in Nintendo Power and in stores and being really curious about it. I really wanted to play it, but I never got the chance. Thanks for reviewing it so I can finally see it!
I still have my copy, it's nice to see people still appreciate this hidden gem, I found out about this game in a ad in a PlayStation magazine and it interest me and it had a demo disk too, after that I bought and fell in love with it, and your right, the game does look good for it's time, and I feel like it's one of those games that's re-playable...well when I try to speedrun it. XD
Nirvanes YOOOO!!! Kameo was such a good game! Kinda stupid in the controls department but a great game overall! All of the forms have there own uses! Ash is great for taking out a ton of people as well as healing yourself after getting the inferno move. Thermite is great for traversal. Deep blue was used for water segments. Flex was great for taking out enemies quickly with little risk. Pummel weed was great when you had slowed down time. Sorry I'm rambling... Good game though!
I got this when i was 8 when it came out, and playing it again recently i was able to really appreciate how high quality this game is. INSANE graphics for early PS2, awesome soundtrack, crazy imaginitive, just honestly a perfect game in the context of the video games of the time
**UPDATE** THQNordic has ported the game to steam and Nintendo Switch!
Man what a world we live in!
I mean, if a company TODAY picks up bubsy and deems it profitable, ANYTHING'S possible!
Between this and Ty, it's nice that lesser-known PS2 titles are starting to get decent PC ports. I also wonder if THQ Nordic will be restoring any cut content.

I am legit sad that this game never got a sequel. I loved it as a kid.
Especially because it was set up to have a sequel. Very sad
There is a physical demo disc for it
I'm 16 years late to this comment section but I concur.
How did you get an early copy of Assassin Creed Origins?
Nitro Rad is a Time Lord. That's why he has access to every platformer ever made.
@felman87
Assassin's Creed is a platformer?
Looking better than the last ones
PENNY POLENDINA Damn, they made an Assassian's Creed game that isn't glitching to Hell.
@Climber
Isn't it? You run around and jump on and off stuff. It's just an open world platformer.
I am getting major Deja vu from this game. I swear I've played it at some point years ago and yet I remember little to nothing about it.

its because the main character is really lame looking. but based on this review i'm definitely interested in giving it a shot

I played this game over and over again as a kid. This was my jam!

You've probably been asked this a million times but, psychonauts review?
Nitro Rad appreciation comment!
Always, my friend! I still remember the first time I saw he did: Voodoo Vince! What about you; what game was he playing when you started liking him?
This channel is so good. Shocked when I didn't see the 1M sub, u deserve that many subs man 👌👏👏👏
I still have my copy, it's nice to see people still appreciate this hidden gem, I found out about this game in a ad in a PlayStation magazine and it interest me and it had a demo disk too, after that I bought and fell in love with it, and your right, the game does look good for it's time, and I feel like it's one of those games that's re-playable...well when I try to speedrun it. XD
When do you review Kameo?! :/
Nirvanes
YOOOO!!!
Good game though!
and its coming to Nintendo Switch.
I played this when it came out. Great game! Great review!!!
I got this when i was 8 when it came out, and playing it again recently i was able to really appreciate how high quality this game is. INSANE graphics for early PS2, awesome soundtrack, crazy imaginitive, just honestly a perfect game in the context of the video games of the time
