Between this and Ty, it's nice that lesser-known PS2 titles are starting to get decent PC ports. I also wonder if THQ Nordic will be restoring any cut content.
The depiction of Tutankhamun in this game actually appears to be relatively accurate. Despite what many would think, the boy was lanky and frail, being afflicted with several congenital defects and generally suffering ill health. Scientists have been able to virtually model what he probably looked like-- and let's just say, he wasn't a looker... So, the game got him pretty spot on, which I liked.
The only thing you forgot to mention is the soundtrack. This games soundtrack is really the cherry on top for the Egyptian world. Absolutely genius. Check it out
Facts, I remember playing this on PS2 with my mum's bf and was just blown away by the graphics. Being in the sand dunes and just looking out into the distance gave me a feeling of Tranquility 💯
Yo but real talk, I wanted this game so badly when I was a kid. I remember seeing this game in the store and thinking to myself I want to get this one day. And I never did. I'm so glad I'm watching this video, it feels like everything has come full circle. I can finally see what this game is like. Thank you for uploading this.
I'm so glad you liked it! Such an under appreciated platformer. THQ Nordic specifically bought the IP a little while back as you say, which does perhaps hint at a rerelease; I sincerely hope so because it deserves to be enjoyed by more people!
All I want is a sequel to finally resolve that bloody cliffhanger. It’s been 15 years! THQNordic own the rights to the game! Make a bloody sequel already, to this hidden masterpiece!
Sphinx is one of those games that, once you get used to the controls and mechanics, is a very fun and rewarding game. It’s definitely clear that, unfortunately, it’s an unfinished experience. But regardless is a game that I still play, even now in my late twenties.
This is the kind of game that shows what can happen when a game isn't simply mass produced. The devs didn't get any chances to make games of their own so when the chance arrived they really put their heart and soul into it and it really shows. Another great review of a great game I've never heard of.
This game just got a physical release on the Switch, and your review helped me decide to buy it. Thank you!! Maybe enough people will play it so they'll make a sequel??
+Shesez to be brutally honest that's theFIRST thing I thought when I saw this games cover hahaha If anything this game is definitely a testament to why you shouldn't judge a nook by its cover!
I absolutely loved this game. I was amazed at how long and involved it was. I had a blast playing it and finding ways to work around the puzzles. However this game was so long and involved I figured I would never play it again. So I gave it away to charity....I might regret that decision now, but it's not like I can't get another copy. Plus I let some other kid have a ton of fun with it years ago and now they have fond memories of it too. I'm glad this game exists, and it definitely deserves an HD re-release.
I am getting major Deja vu from this game. I swear I've played it at some point years ago and yet I remember little to nothing about it. Also the fact the game ends on an unresolved cliffhanger is pretty disappointing.
I love this game, especially playing as the mummy. The only game I've played that the point is to get electrocuted or on fire, instead of avoiding traps like that.
i played this game as a kid and god i still adore it, glad to see people still doing previews of this game, thanks now im gonna play it again on an emulator
I picked up this game entirely based on this video that I saw 2 years ago and man, you were so right. Amazing game, good looking and holds up really well today. Let's hope that the switch release sells well and that we get a sequel for it !
The reason Sphinx looks so smug is because he is smug! He knows he's the best at what he does and he shows it. Every facial expression show "yeah that's right.... I'm better then you!" His climbing animation.....uhhh... Yeah I don't know either chief...
Sphinx and the cursed mummy is one of my most favourite games ever! I was so surprised to see that you did a fully in depth video on it. It's a great game and a huge part of my childhood!

Falco started that trend, and i'm used to it by this point, it's more odd when the bird is nice to you, like Kass in botw, he's my favourite npc in the game

I swear, the 6th gen has something for obscure 3D platformers. But hey, I think it's definitely possible for this game to get a sequel, port or maybe if we're a lucky, a remaster. Like you said, anything at this point is possible.
> port or maybe if we're a lucky, a remaster Those are one and the same. They really are. One is just a fancy-schmancy word for the other meant to fool the masses into thinking there's more to ports than there really is. It's only logical the devs are going to bump up the resolution and use higher res textures (that are leftovers from the original development cycle) in a port on more powerful hardware. In my eyes, if the game still has the same level & character geometry, the same amount of polygons, it's just a port.
There was a squeal planed, but it never got finished. All the people that worked on it moved on to other companies before it was finished. Maybe if it gets remastered or a remake, maybe they can finish the story.
I the bonus videos in the game there's so much cool gameplay that was never put into the game. Like traveling to the next island on the boat in metropolis i believe and when the one bird tells you to look for him to go on another mission, telling you where he is, and you never find him! And what about when you plant all the trees and it never rains! There's so much more they left out, us players NEED it remastered and finished!!

There’s a great Egyptian Style FPS on the Sega Saturn callled PowerSlave, and it’s great. You might like it, as it has a lot of Metroid-like & even some platformer-like elements, even though it’s primarily a shooter.
I still remember seeing this game in Nintendo Power and in stores and being really curious about it. I really wanted to play it, but I never got the chance. Thanks for reviewing it so I can finally see it!

Well the girl with the blue hair (channel icon) is the "Nana" in "Nana-Kyoto" (just in the "casual" outfit I designed) As for the channel banner, that is an original character (only in her "slim" form) and for thumbnails, she is in her "thick" form. Does that answer your question?
I had a singularly bizarre experience with this game as a kid - I managed to sequence break one of the hub temple sections and load from a Sphinx level to a Tut level *multiple hours later*. I had no idea what happened and thought the plot was an absolute fever dream.
0:45 Eurocom was also behind that PS1 Tarzan game, based on the animated Disney movie. You don't usually review these kind of tie-in games but I'd love to see you play some one day. THQ also made a Ratatouille 3D platformer, which I haven't played in it's entirety, but I sure loved the heck out of the PC demo.
I’m only 19 years old so it’s rare that i get to say this type of thing, but i grew up on this game! It’s FANTASTIC. SO much nostalgia here. I just purchased it on steam for 3.97$!!!! Absolutely underrated and needs so much more attention.
This has actually received a port to PC in November last year. From what I've seen, it's actually a pretty decent port! And surprisingly enough it actually got some solid post-release support! They even put out a modding toolkit at the end of february.
Nirvanes YOOOO!!! Kameo was such a good game! Kinda stupid in the controls department but a great game overall! All of the forms have there own uses! Ash is great for taking out a ton of people as well as healing yourself after getting the inferno move. Thermite is great for traversal. Deep blue was used for water segments. Flex was great for taking out enemies quickly with little risk. Pummel weed was great when you had slowed down time. Sorry I'm rambling... Good game though!
**UPDATE** THQNordic has ported the game to steam and Nintendo Switch!
Man what a world we live in!
I mean, if a company TODAY picks up bubsy and deems it profitable, ANYTHING'S possible!
Between this and Ty, it's nice that lesser-known PS2 titles are starting to get decent PC ports. I also wonder if THQ Nordic will be restoring any cut content.

THQ also made a Ratatouille 3D platformer, which I haven't played in it's entirety, but I sure loved the heck out of the PC demo.
The XBOX version is now Backwards Compatible on XBOX One. Can also get it at the XBOX store.
I played this game over and over again as a kid. This was my jam!
I’m only 19 years old so it’s rare that i get to say this type of thing, but i grew up on this game! It’s FANTASTIC. SO much nostalgia here. I just purchased it on steam for 3.97$!!!! Absolutely underrated and needs so much more attention.
In Greek Mythology there was a guy who had the cure for death...
Sphinx And The Greek Physician! That’s the sequel we need!
Okay, someone please open a crowdfunding campaign, this NEEDS to happen!
OMYGOD! IM SO HAPPY SOMEONE IS TALKING ABOUT THIS GAME! It was one of my favorites growing up :D
NITRORAD YOU NEED TO REVIEW SPARK THE ELECTRIC JESTER !
*Yes.*
(And Freedom Planet too.)
This has actually received a port to PC in November last year. From what I've seen, it's actually a pretty decent port! And surprisingly enough it actually got some solid post-release support! They even put out a modding toolkit at the end of february.
When do you review Kameo?! :/
Nirvanes
YOOOO!!!
