It's possibly the most disappointing game of all time for me. I was so hyped for it, picked it up, and after a few hours I already knew that I wasn't going to like it. Still finished it, but meh. That was not a good Christmas.
I know in a Starfox series point of view, it’s an awful Starfox game. But for me, who loves Zelda, it was like a Starfox Zelda so to this day absolutely love it and play it
I saved half my lunch money every day for a month to buy Metroid Prime after seem it in ONM. Still own it today, and it's my favourite game purchase of all time. Helps that it's also such a bloody great game!
Can’t believe how many of these games I owned but back then games didn’t come out as frequently as they do now, Metroid, Eternal Darkness and Time Splitters were my favorites I loved Turok as well but the loading times on that game were crazy long thanx for the stroll down memory lane
I agree with most, but... Where was Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, possibly the nearest a spin-off has got to recreating the feel of the main series games, and refining everything Colosseum set down for the Gamecube games. The idea of Shadow Pokémon got expanded in this game, with Shadow pretty much becoming its own move type considering the expanded Shadow move list. Yeah, it might not have been for everyone, but it was undeniably a good game.
i was looking for this comment, it’s one of my favorite games of all time. i replayed it a few years ago and it still held up to the original magic from my childhood
One huge negative to every Soul Calibur after the original was the format or lack of Team Battles. Once you got hooked on 8v8 random against your friend that was in the first, not having 8v8 was a huge letdown in the sequels :(
Guys, stop saying that a game should be higher up on the list, since this list just says the games in a random order. And while I’ve got your attention, Wario World should be on the list.
Had the GC on release and had 15 games from this list. I loved Rogue Squadron as well! It's time they brought some of these games to a modern system. It's my favourite looking ninty system and the games still loolk fantastic to me. Classic.
My 2 cents: I think RE4 is in fact the best Gamecube game. It was insane how it combined action with world building and fun. MP is however a close second. MP2 is not as good and it takes a while to get into, but man, when it has found its momentum it's better than the first one. Too bad Viewtiful Joe is missing.
I've actually stated I would have been fine if RE4 was number 2, but that Number 4, despite the irony, is just not acceptable due to how influential RE4 is. The reason I can accept it at #2 is that Metroid Prime exists and is the only real contender for the crown.
I still regret selling my copy of this game a couple years ago (and very cheap compared to what people try to sell it for this days). One of my favorite games ever
Great list but you definitely left out Tales of Symphonia. To have such and amazing, Japanesey RPG on the GameCube after the N64's role-playing drought blew my mind. It's one of my favorite games ever and certainly still the best in the series.
Manuel Villalobos Acuña I would have added Ikaruga (one of the best Shoot 'm Ups I've ever played), Tales of Symphonia, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Baten Kaitos Origins, Skies of Arcadia Legends, Chibi-Robo, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II to the list.
For me personally there’d have to be room for: 1. XII (one of the best FPS ever with the closest thing to a modern Goldeneye multiplayer). 2. Pac Man World 2: Great graphics, brilliant fun, takes some of the best aspects of Mario 64. 3. Wario Ware (amazing multiplayer). 4. Serious Sam: Next Encounter (great fun, doesn’t take itself seriously, pick up and play!)
I'm guessing the folks who put this together are not a big fan of JRPGs are they? Seriously no Tales of Symphonia, Fire Emblem Path of Radiance, Skies of Arcadia Legends and Baten Kaitos?
I’m not sure why this was recommended to me; I’ve not watched an nl video in a bit, but hearing that “hey there lovey people” is surprisingly comforting
Both Pokémon Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness are worth a mention. Seeing Pokémon in 3D on the big screen was great, especially when connecting the GBA games in battle mode (the fact that you could use your GBA as another controller speaks for itself) and battling your friends. But overall the story mode being totally different than you typical expect of Pokémon.
I agree with your #1 pick. Metroid Prime is an unbelievably fun and well- made game. One of the few games I feel confident saying they "did everything right". I am currently barreling through Prime 2, i never played it back in the day but picked up a copy recently
For me personally Wario Ware, XII, Pac Man World 2 & Serious Sam deserved to be on this list too but I guess it just shows how amazing this system was.
The Gamecube is my favorite console, this is a great list! but you still missed some of my favorites: Path of Radiance, Baten Kaitos series, the Prince of Persia games, the Pokémon games, Mario Strikers, etc.
Wow, I’m really amazed at the wonkiness of this list. Some surprising but deserved inclusions like Beyond Good & Evil but totally missing an entry like Star Wars Rogue Leader which was an incredible flight sim.
Baten Kaitos? Tales of Symphonia? Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles? Skies of Arcadia: Legends? Fire Emblem? COME ON! The Gamecube had some of the greatest RPG's of a generation and you fail to even mention one
I definitely agree. Best RPG on the system, and one of the best RPGs of all time in my opinion. It is just such a phenomenal game. I would even put it above melee.
Clearly Missing: Baten Kaitos Skies of Arcadia Tales of Symphonia Viewtiful Joe And the best Soccer game in history of mankind, the one and only GotGc contender: Super Mario Strikers aka Super Mario Smash Football
Ikaruga, Killer 7... The Gamecube had a bunch of great games. Also I would have preferred RE:0 to be on the list, simply because it was a Gamecube exclusive. And yes, I know that the version of RE:4 was the best one out until it got remastered (the PS2 version was just bad and the PC version was a crappy port of the PS2 one), but still.
Baten Kaitos games are amazing, they just rarely receive critical acclaim as they can be bland and cookie cutter at times for a JRPG, such as in plot, dialogue, and voice acting. Ive beaten both games though and the card mechanic and the combos really are what make the games fun and unique
+Colton Zuspan Just download the ISO and play it on dolphin emulator or a homebrewed Wii. No point paying some schmuck $80+ for his copy when Nintendo isn't getting a cent of that money.
Star fox assault, Battalion Wars 1, and Pokemon Colosseum should have been honorable mentions (but wait, there was not an "honorable mentions"category included within the video!?) 😅
@@mau99 I agree even though most might disagree that I found starfox adventures really fun and awesome 👍, also truth be told SFA was my very first GameCube game along side Mario kart double dash.
As a big Star Fox fan, I felt that Star Fox Assault was not very good. I was an adult by the time the game came out, so my opinion might be different than those who experienced it as a kid. Now, even though I was much younger when Star Fox and Star Fox 64 came out, I do think they are both much better than Assault.
Mario Sunshine was always my favorite Mario. I was super excited to play Odyssey but I think I mentally over hyped it. It wasn't as good as I expected. And I also got a little annoyed how much everyone loves Odyssey but didn't love Sunshine. This may sound strange but I view Odyssey as a sequel to Sunshine BECAUSE you have normal Mario moves and a "weapon" for competing tasks. It felt like an extension of the Sunshine play style to me.
Odyssey is just more polished and capitalizes on its ideas a bit more. It’s also a much meatier experience. That said, Sunshine is unparalleled when it comes to how liberating its controls are, how strong its art direction is, and how thick and effective its sense of atmosphere is. Sunshine should’ve been much higher on the list, if not the top spot, but I guess this guy didn’t enjoy it as much.
I would have added Ikaruga (one of the best Shoot 'm Ups I've ever played), Tales of Symphonia, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Baten Kaitos Origins, Skies of Arcadia Legends, Chibi-Robo, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II to the list.
In my town 2 years ago a video game/table top gaming bar opened where you could go in and play any vidgame you wanted and they had a super smash bros melee competition with fellow patrons and online players. Then covid hit last year they shut down and I hope they reopen again. I loved that place.
Such good times with this console. I never even care if it was cool or not...I loved it. Every game was such a quantifiably major step up from what came before it. Controls were tight, graphics cleaning up big time, inventive stories and mechanics...just all around magic. Thanks for including Eternal Darkness. Nobody ever does. Lol. You def forgot Pikmin though.
The GameCube is by far the most underrated console gem ever made. Definitely Nintendo’s best. Honestly it’s kinda sad to see the Nintendo switch so far behind its competitors in terms of power
Better power doesn't make a console better. Even though the PS4 and Xbone are much more powerful, the switch has vastly better games and just has a certain charm only Nintendo can create.
Pichkalu Pappita I disagree, there is no variety in the ps4 exclusive games, they are all third person adventure games, I mean, they are good, but if you do something good too much it kind of gets worn out and annoying.
@@chikinonfrydai Ummm... Uncharted 4, God of war, Horizon zero Dawn, Bloodborne, Spiderman, The last of us, Days gone, imfamous second son, Yakuza 6, Street fighter 5, Until Dawn.. Come on Bro. I know I'm 2 years late, but I'd also add Viewtiful Joe, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Battalion Wars, and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time to the list of honorable mentions.
feels wrong to not mention Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Tales of Symphonia, Chibi-Robo, Custom Robo, P.N.03, Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2, Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, Skies of Arcadia Legends, Pokemon Colosseum & XD, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2, Star Fox Assault or Wario World......but then I legit can't do classic RE tank controls, never got into Monkey Ball, and *gasp* never played the Burnout or Timesplitters entries ( played the 3rd Timesplitters & Burnout Paradise but that's it ) so yeah....it's all personal taste in the end. also THPS3 is better than THPS4.... and to this day I wish the devs responsible for SSX 3 could make a new 1080 for Nintendo....imagine a 1080 snowboarding game that's more like SSX 3 ( the best snowboarding game of all time )
i know it isnt a gamecube game as far as i know but jet force gemini on the n64 is a must play game for anyone that like 90s and early 2000s games it has a lot of charm
I am from the NES and SNES era. I had atari too. My last Nintendo console was a N64. Watching this video makes me want a cube though. I love Zelda and Metroid.
You're missing Tales of Symphonia, Rogue Squadron 2, Skies of Arcadia Legends, and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Also I would have preferred Timesplitters: Future Perfect be on the list instead of 2 for better graphics, better campaign, and more multiplayer options. Otherwise the list is pretty good. Wind Waker is a better choice for the list than Twilight Princess. It's more memorable, took more risks, and has better music. Also aged better. Still, I object to the assertion that Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is the best Mario rpg. In my opinion that honour remains with the original Super Mario: Legend of the Seven Stars. But that's not an issue with the list, just it's presentation.
I object to your objection to the assertion that Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is the best Mario RPG. Granted, I haven't played all of them, and the last time I tried Super Mario RPG was years ago now (and I never got very far into it). Still, Thousand Year Door is not only my favorite of the Mario RPGs, not only my favorite GameCube title, but my favorite game of all time. I totally understand those who prefer Square Enix's approach in SMRPG (which has its own tongue in cheek humor as well as more of a fantasy element), and I can definitely appreciate the wackiness of the Mario & Luigi series (Bowser's Inside Story is also a Top 15 game for me), but Thousand Year Door has a certain level of highly-quotable yet grounded comedy that clicks with me like nothing else. It serves as a better satire of the Mario series than any other game in the franchise, yet it stands on its own with its memorable characters and brilliantly crafted world so as to feel much more than just a simple subversion. Gameplay-wise, I might give a slight edge to Bowser's Inside Story, but there is a clear distinction between the two styles and thus Thousand Year Door can still stand on its own. Compared to Mario RPG and Paper Mario, it feels much more refined - snappy yet impactful, and brimming with personality. Mechanics tie so well to the characters and the world that everything meshes together. The badge system is also refined far beyond the original Paper Mario, and your loadout feels impactful (if a little overpowered). This is not to say that the game has flaws. It has major ones, in fact. A lot of backtracking and some poor pacing during certain parts (I love Chapter 4 despite its poor pacing - mostly because of Doopliss; the same cannot be said about Chapter 7). A very odd game balance that is highly exploitable (again, the badge system) and often too easy (until the difficulty spikes with the Shadow Queen and later levels of the Pit of 100 Trials). These issues can kill the game for some. For me, however - someone who unabashedly loves Super Mario Sunshine despite its filler and other multitude of issues - these issues are nothing compared to the strengths I've spoken of above.
I agree, Timesplitters Future Perfect is much better. While I still like both, Future Perfect is much more interesting. Plus, their little slogans are hilarious
KC Clark You have passion for your game of choice, and have clearly thought about this. I respect that and I withdraw the objection. That said I am a child of the 90's and the Mario RPG music is deeply wired to some sort of very important part of my brain. So let's say they all have their strengths and that Thousand Year Door is the best one on the GameCube.
My too favorite games listed: 1. Wind waker 2.def Jam fight for NY. 3.metriod prime. 4. Mario kart double dash 5. Twilight princess Games I left out. Sun shine, true crime, etc.
I love that Metroid promised the top of your list oh, it's so strange that such a great and beloved Nintendo game is still very very cheap so if you don't have this game pick it up!
I remember how pissed I was when I first saw Wind Waker. Though now I am able to appreciate it and feel it is a better game and has aged much better than TP, it wasn’t the game 17 year old me wanted to play at the time.

I really wish they would do a remake of this and/or colosseum
Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast is without doubt, one of the finest and most polished fighting games out there. To this day it's still my favourite.

Imo Mario Galaxy is better than both of them...
Come at me.
