Solid review! I just bought the valkyrie master set off of facebook out of pure nostalgia. Excited that the new re-release of Heroscape has just happened!
Heroscape is my all time favorite game - no competition. I own multiples of all master sets, terrain expansions and figure expansions. Bloody brilliant and fun game!
Found the core set at a yardsale this weekend for $1! It's complete with what I think are a couple of booster packs. Never played it but looking forward to it!
They should bring back Heroscape. One thing that Arena of the Planeswalkers did right was the base board already set up. Arena of the Planeswalkers base board plus Heroscape terrain. Fast to set up and overall really fun
Thanks for posting. I watched the video totally confident that you would be giving a thumbs up. If you had not, I should have...been vexed. Love, love, love, love Heroscape. Buy a base set, maybe some extra tiles and make or proxy anything else... I will not pay £100+ for three or four plastic toy soldiers. I have never played Heroscape, but I actually really enjoyed the Planeswalker game and expansions. I like the magic cards, which I get the impression are not part of Heroscape. I think I’m going to buy the Heroscape Valkyrie set to add to my Planeswalker game. I think they’re close enough that they’d probably work. Happy gaming to you. Looking forward to the next review.
I was fortunate to get this game as it came out and accumulated multiple base sets of each base set and multiple of each expansion. @@BoardGameBollocks that’s unfortunate. Can you elaborate at all on why that price point doesn’t work for you? Do you feel that what the new set contains is not worth 250, or is 250 just too much for any board game regardless of value?

Great video, really looking into it. I didn’t get why hasbro stopped printing this, it really would succeed. All the terrain in heroscape really seems to bring out the creativity and realism of the game, design, etc. Do you have any suggestions on where to start? Like for instance, which master/core set would I get if I’m just looking into buying the game? They are all generally more expensive than a lot of games out them like MTG, because they quit printing it.
Rise of the Valkyrie to start as it’s the cheapest one. Then go from there based on what you can afford. I made my own terrain as you can see in the video and it works really well. There’s also the arena of the planes walkers game that is really cheap which you could throw in, but it’s poor quality and spare on content.

I always did think Heroscape would work well as a gacha game, personally. But I think the real problem was that the stores didn't want to have to buy bulks of three common packs that sell plus one unique pack that doesn't. Remove that restriction, and supply and demand will lead to much profit. Which, rumor has it, they are planning to do with upcoming new Heroscape stuff that was announced yesterday.
I remember buying this when I was 12 and coming home and saying “mom check it out!” And she said dude you’re told old for that shit. Idk why but that crushed my spirit a little bit. I knew she was right but idk it hurt 😂
Picked up the Valkeryie set for £40 complete as will be nice to play with my son who is 6 so he can grasp mythic battles pantheon later (I hope) or he tells me to do one 😂😂😂
I'm excited for the new phase of Heroscape to hopefully begin. Hasbro has a Haslab campaign to fund it by the community, but I hope that it actually takes off. If you could give it a shout-out, that would be awesome!
Any interest in getting back into it? Because Hasbro apparently also regrets getting rid of it and has announced intentions to make more. Heroscape: Age of Annihilation is coming.
@@themesongfan452 well this has made my night. I guess with tabletop seeing a boom in popularity it is a good time. Do you know why they got rid of it in the first place
@@kevinb871 Well, I know that Hasbro was hoping that Wizards of the Coast will do well with it, but it looks like there were problems selling it in the first place. A combination of the plastic pieces being too expensive to make and the stores being frustrated with having to buy packs unique packs that didn't sell well alongside the common ones that did. From the sounds of things, they're being careful to fix some of these problems, but the game might be more expensive this time as part of the trade off (especially given 12 years of inflation and a currently bad economy). Still, it should be a lot cheaper than what we could buy off of ebay right now.
I hunted down unsold copy of the game from one store in my country who had it in it's liquidation warehouse, bought sets, and expansions online. I have 13 yr kid and his friends enjoy the game, next Friday I'm setting-up HS game at our place for them. This is a no seller. @@BoardGameBollocks well jokes on Hasbro, they would have had like 1500 of my USD, but I turned around and spent that on classic Heroscape like the same day it failed. A really good point to bring up is also how easy it is to homebrew custom units! The system is very versatile. If you're playing with friends and have a general understanding of how the balance works, bringing in other 28mm figurines with written up rule cards, or even gluing random figurines like a 3 inch tall giant robot action figure to a 2x1 base brings variety to your games!
Heroscape is in my Top 5 ever, put indecent amount of money in those old fashioned minis. This game is simply juicy.

I remember buying this when I was 12 and coming home and saying “mom check it out!” And she said dude you’re told old for that shit. Idk why but that crushed my spirit a little bit. I knew she was right but idk it hurt 😂
Never too old…never listen to your parents
*Warhammer 40K spenders hiding their collections under their beds when Mom comes over for a visit*
Picked up the Valkeryie set for £40 complete as will be nice to play with my son who is 6 so he can grasp mythic battles pantheon later (I hope) or he tells me to do one 😂😂😂
One of the best games ever- And its back!
Yes but how much? Readying myself for a shock…
I used to have this was sooooo funnnn
As someone who jumped on the arena of the planeswalkers games its also good to point out that gameplay wise it was so much worse then heroscape.
Nice audio
Technically it is definitely worth every penny it if you own it.
I'm excited for the new phase of Heroscape to hopefully begin. Hasbro has a Haslab campaign to fund it by the community, but I hope that it actually takes off. If you could give it a shout-out, that would be awesome!
I’m not giving a shout out to game that is £249. Sorry but that’s just obscene pricing.
I had this game as a kid, and I regret not realizing what I had and getting rid of it
It’s so expensive now. Bummer
Do not sell for anything if you have kids, nephews or adult friends who love fantasy but can't spent hours on learning new stuff.
I been collecting heroscape since day one .. now I have way to much ..and having to turn to ebay to lighten my load ..lol .. heroscape for life
Need to make room for the new Heroscape content currently in production, right?
@@themesongfan452 man ..I wish..
@@aboortedlastname9279 By which I am saying new official Heroscape content really *is* in production. They announced it two days ago.
@@themesongfan452 oh shit ..age of annihilation.. wow .. hopefully this is real ..I will never forget the day I went to Walmart to get my weekly expansion pack and, there were none .. panicked, went to all the stores in a frantic craze .. awe shit son ..thanks for the heads up
They tried to reboot it but Hasbro sabotaged it
I predicted it would fail…not surprised at £249 for unpainted minis and no epoch specific factions. Idiots.
I used the WizKids super hero minis and they work fine
Fakin great
i saw people charging quite a lot of money for this game
The fly figure goes for silly money. Quite fitting really.
It is so pricy because it has been out of print for a while
@@natethegreat3726 It won't be out of print for much longer.
Fine I’ll subscribe just don’t hit me
Come closer…😂
@@BoardGameBollocks lol
For God's sake get your pieces out of your attic!
That's what makes the pieces brittle.
They’re vacuum packed mate
Well, it's back! Renegade games is reprinting the game
Heroscape is coming back ! - and the base set is only $250 ! - hahaha
Hard pass
