It’s a lot per figure, especially painted, but I’m just stoked to get new releases. When they do start releasing common squads they’ll have to lower the price point because no way people can afford 65$ per squad.
9 $ per mini unpainted is still really expensive when compared to mini nowadays, not even the prices 20 years ago, even compared to something like GW since the quality is clearly lower. 12 $ per painted mini is more reasonable, but still quite steep. I understand the backlash, gotta admit.
Love the revamp, but it feels a bit like WotC attempt. LoL f.e. (with it's first Board/Tabletop game Mechs vs. Minions) brought the whole package with gorgeous minis (and didn't just copied playtested versions to than make them unnecessarily detailed) for less than 100 bucks. CMoN does. And where is all the former contempt for lay offs etc.? Still admittedly stoked though;o)
You also have to remember that the low price of the older Heroscape products was actually a major contributing factor to it's downfall. The game was very expensive to produce given all the plastic, which meant they also had a very tight advertising budget, hurting sales even further to the point where they were forced to recycle D&D minis for the last master set before it was shelved. There was also the problem of how blister packs were distributed to stores which also made things hectic for store owners. Does the higher price point suck? Of course it does, but I can see how the increase is so that the brand can be more sustainable in the future. There's an actual sense of the creators learning from the mistakes of the past. Hell, we should even be LUCKY that we're getting new Heroscape products in 2024, especially ones that are still compatible with all of our older collections.
Look at the price differential between OG Scape and New Scape and then look at the inflation rate since the release of the OG to now. Though it sucks the price point makes perfect sense.
