Helping a YouTube subscriber get their 1968 Mercury Cougar a little closer to finished

- A RUclips subscriber reached out to me to give him a hand with his 1968 Mercury Cougar project because he was stuck. I drove down to Atlanta Georgia to get it done for him. On the way back I stopped off in Arkansas to pick up some rust-free parts.

Sandy and I are the owners of this 68 Cougar. To say we were thrilled when Scott agreed to help us is an understatement! The experience of working / observing along side him (a true master of sheet metal) was informative and heart warming. I’ve been around maintenance most of my working adult life and could tell in minutes he was an expert in his craft, calmly working through the challenges of this quarter panel. A project that began in 2004 when my father in law purchased this car has now been jump started. This project is dedicated in his memory, as he passed before we could work on it together. Now let’s get this video to 1 million views so we can watch Scott paint a car!!
He would be so proud. I can see the smile now...
@@legalsan3913
Congratulations on being a recipient on his craft!
He is one of a handful that I try to make sure to never miss a video. I hope a million views do come through, so you can get that car painted.
I have a Ford car from the early 70’s I’d like him to look at. I’m going to cross my fingers I have you and your wife’s blessings.
Scott, you are a class act.Another great video. A perfectionist,on everything you touch. I hope you land in another shop. So enjoy your videos and humor. Looking forward to more content....
Great work and enjoyable to watch.
Neat car. Wish I never sold mine!
"I don't need it because I don't have any friends" That made me lol 😂
👍🏻😂
@@vehcor We're all your friends, But you need something much larger to haul us all around on road trips. 🤣
The reason he wanted you to do it because you know what you’re doing good job
I think he could have handled it. He did just fine on the rest, and that was the hard part.
😮 one of my favorite things to do to a nervous student painting their first car is bump them so they can quit worrieing about a run you never get too old to make one... 😮😢😂❤💯🇺🇸💪✅️ @vehcor
well people in Georgia are just stupid,, they voted for old piss pants and hood ghetto sloppy fat monkey Fani the FUPA willis
Thoroughly enjoyed the video. My dad doesn’t have much time on this earth left and as a teen I used to help him weld and fix cars. This video reminded me of those times.
I like the road trip idea, moving someone elses project along is a nice car community feature that makes grateful new friends, is extremely helpful, and is also a good way to get a mini vacation out of the deal. Especially when you are working with nice folks like Steve and Sandy, and they have a nice shop like that. Fantastic job.
Now I just need someone to come move all these Mustang projects of mine along! 😂
Glad to see you working on cars again.
I prefer that to making videos for sure!
Love your style, keep rocking it!
love your videos Scott im especially happy with you working repairing and commenting thanks again
I see these guys do body and custom stuff. You are the only one that uses weld thru primer! You do damn good work😊
Most of those cars will probably never see the road other than to go to car shows. I treat every car like it will be a daily driver in the north.
That was one of the cleanest and most organized salvage yards I have ever seen
Most people are used to “you pull it” yards. There are many like this that I have been to. Rarely do you get to go in the yard of the full service yards.
What a great Friday surprise, happy weekend all.
Same to you!
Nice generous thing to do to use your time and talent to help someone get their dream car back on the road. This reminds me of the Honda you fixed up and donated to the older lady in NJ who was without wheels. The world can use all the personal generosity it can get. Thanks.
Had to be a joy having Scott agree to come down and help, Ive been watching for several years and am always impressed, you did right in Sandy's fathers memory, well done. I have a rust free Camaro with some minor accident damage (same Lft. rear quarter) that I hope to have repair and painted some day, actually thought about contacting Scott to bring the car to him. I am just next-door in the frozen waste-land of MI.
branching out always brings its own rewards.... keep em comming
Thanks! Will do!
I like seeing modern car repair, but classic car/truck repair is even better.
I like a bit of both!
don't mention Mustang....
@@vehcor The commentary and subtle sarcasm works well with old cars.
Dream cars come in all shapes, sizes and colors, well done for helping someone realize their dream!👍🏼👍🏼
Couldn't agree more!
I like it, you working on viewers' cars. You not only to produce fascinating content but also build goodwill with your community. Good to see you back in the saddle fixing cars! Rinse, repeat!!
I received a lot of support after the fire, it is time to give it back. I’m still getting things sorted out so my time is limited for now.
Love first gen Cougars, my uncle & aunt had two identical ones, 1967 white with red interior. Purchased from same dealership, at a single purchase. Enjoyed this episode, and I hope this is the first of many travel to fix a car episodes.
I did have a lot of fun. I need to get stuff settled around here but I would not mind traveling for repairs, especially when it is cold up here!
I prefer the '67's because I think those stupid side maker lights they stuck on the '68's are hideous! A 3-year-old could have come up with something decent looking.
One million views?!? Time to set this video on loop. Awesome work Scott and really cool video
You are the best!
The Merc Mustang will look great after its done and I hope Sandy and Steve have many many great times and miles with it!
LOVE THAT SHOP! A dream for me.
DEFINITELY one of your best videos!
Keep up the great work!
Thanks, this job was one of my favorites in a long time!
I'm a woodworker not a mech but I agree. When I moved to a small town I was looking at empty land to build on. My dream place? 300 sft bunkie on top of a 2000 sft shop. Basically 4 car garage.
Been a subscriber for a little while, this was definitely the best episode I've seen of your's. I think the new format would add a little something to the channel. Great story on the Mercury, very nice people. Hope you get the million.👍
Nooo! I don’t want to paint but a deal is a deal. It will be just my luck this video goes viral! 😂 I really enjoy the trip and the job!
"Paralysis by analysis". A true road blocker if one allows it to be. Great job, Scott!
Yes, I suffer from it but I have gotten better about it over the years.
You should leave Illinois head south, I did years ago, and you won't regret it.
Maybe you could have a sit down with the pizza girl, she is keeping me here.
@@vehcor Tell the pizza girl that you have friends from south Florida will replace her with hot Latinas if she doesn't move... That should go over well..lolol
@@vehcor Sorry to hear pizza girl is opposed to moving. I left Illinois for Florida 50+ years ago after my pizza girl saw Florida in March. Her Illinois employer called about 6 months later begging her to return. She said no way.
@@13Photodog Florida humidity takes years to get used to..
@vehcor come to the Free State of Florida where there's a lot of us refugees from the state Illinoistan
For gearheads like me, you teach us the basics of panel repair , what’s important, and what’s less important and what tools are essential. Thank you from all the old graybeards like me.❤️
Damn nice job Scott 👏 👌 Its always hilarious when he says i don't have any friends
Thanks
Scott, you are a class act. In today’s world we need this so bad! Thank you for all that you do for others.
Thanks for the support!
Oshawa stratification on the flip flops lol! Great fitment on that quarter panel experience and patience shows 👏
Great video Scott, and love how the after market panel was top notch. Kudos to you first with the magician eyes and hands but also kudos to the panel.
It was good quality. Not that thin junk. It fit pretty good with some minor adjustments.
Great video Scott, and thank you for the salvage yard tour, looks like you had a great adventure 🙂👍
Come on guys, I am sure we all want to see Scot painting that car as well as the finished product!! Greetings from South Africa.
I don’t know if I want to see it but a deal is a deal! 😂
God Bless you, Scott! Nice job. Love your videos.
I appreciate that!
Thanks for taking this road trip. I believe that others can use this experience to change a quarter on their project to save a nice vehicle.
Hopefully, if not, I hope they live somewhere warm so I can come help them out! 😂
And I thought Vice Grip Garage cracked me up. An artist with humor. LoL. Yes, I to would like to see you paint it.
Thanks for the support!
Exelent job, this car deserves a new life to be on the road again, I would like to see you painting it.
Enjoy watching you master what you do. 👍
Scott is one of the few people I would love/allow to work on any car I own. Sadly I am thousands of miles away in the UK. Keep up the excellent work Scott.
Thanks 👍
I"m going to watch the video again. ;-)
No!!! I don’t want to paint! It will be just my luck this video goes viral or something! 😂
I really like this episode. You are very good to watch and listen too when you are workin. As i like the Cougar work,i also like that junkyard with rustfree parts. My Avalanche need both front fenders.
Thank you very much!
Scott, what a great move to help them put that car back together. You are a good person.
Thanks for the support!
great job as always, so glad you helped that couple out on there car especially it being her dads and helping them keep the dream alive
Thanks 👍
@vehcor I hope you have a happy fourth of july!
Have a great weekend! 🥈
Scott, great video as always, especially on a Saturday morning!
Glad you enjoyed it
That car was my first love. Still want a 69 XR7. They are super lucky to have that.
It will be a great cruiser when they are done!
Man that was a good clean quarter install. Im impressed new/old... you are an excellent body man!
Great episode. I would like to see the sequel where follow up tasks is fixed (by Scott of course)
I might have to stop by and check on the progress. 👍🏻
It's an interesting addition to your videos visiting people and working on their cars. I wish I needed something done.
It changes the scenery a bit and get some projects jump started. Everybody wins!
I am thinking that little by little we are gonna be seen less and less people capable of doing what you do. Thank you for sharing so amazing job. 👍
I think it is only because less and less people want to try but I agree. Thanks for the support!
love this new work style. keep it coming
I’ll try!
Great work on installing the quarter, would love to see you paint it
A deal is a deal, I’ll paint it if I have to! 😂
Awesome video Scott. 🚗🚗🚗
Glad you enjoyed it
Heart warming video and good to see that there are new opportunities and ideas turning up, despite the recent misfortune.
There's probably a lady who still has a totalled, blue Lexus RC sitting on her driveway that needs fixing 😊
That RC will be there forever, or at least until the repo man finds it! 😂
I love it , great video Scott , your clients were great also !
Thanks 👍 I agree they are great people!
Love watching all of your videos and this was great too. I'm less than an hour from you in NW Indiana so getting to work on clean cars would definitely be a treat.
Hope to see the finished product..great job as always Scott 😊
Best damn most unique channel on youtube..
Thanks!
I get a bunch of enjoyment out of your comments. You be funny while doing good work. Keep the adventures coming 'Friends or no friends.
Thanks, will do!
I had 67 Cougar! So I loved this video. Glad to see you back installing , grinding , welding and more grinding.
I liked the headlights!
Tip
If you’re going to put the cage back in .
First cut a large doggy door in it.
Use a couple of draw slides so you can just slide it out of the way when you need that extra bit of length.
You could also modify the seat or swap it with one that folds down.
After hitting the welds with the cut of wheel i use a cookie wheel, much less aggressive then the grinding disc, nice work!
Love your work and dry humour 😅
Thank you 😁
Nice job on that quarter. Living north of your border I can really appreciate that yard of rust free parts. Nice people & good shop makes it easier to work on their car.
You get the super cold weather and rust! Yuck!
Have ALWAYS loved your channel...I think the "fix your project" format could also be very, very interesting...hope it works out for you!!
We shall see!
Great story on the car - lots of boomers have similar stories but some stories never get completed. Scott is a whiz when it comes to metal work. I've watched him do some very creative work. I too have a story on an old truck but I want to finish the job myself. I've been practicing on a lot of crashed vehicles and have sharpened my sheet metal skills. I have a nice shop with lots of tools and a lift and find it very soothing to work on crazy stuff. It satisfies to look at the finished job and not be able to tell it was crunched.
Thanks for the support! Good luck in your project!
Living in Chicago, I’ve always kept track of your builds in hopes of maybe scoring one of your for sale cars, knowing they were done right. this episode was very cool, loved it.
I’m hoping to increase the number of vehicles available once I find a new shop.
Great job, Scott! This was a a great video and topic. They knew YOU were the guy to call! Hope it hits a million views - I’d love to see you finish the car! (I don’t have any friends, either! 😆)
They never thought I would actually show up! 😂 Hopefully I’ll be able to keep you updated on the progress.
As always awesome job. I want shop like that tooo.
It’s nicer than some of the ones I have been looking at in Illinois!
My Grandma had a Cougar, when I was a little kid.... She used to ride us around in it.....
Was a cool car... Great job by You & the Owner, trying to fix this one up.....
Thanks 👍
My grandma was a cougar 😂
@@vehcor Great Job by you Scott. I can't imagine how star struck these people were when you showed up.... Great job.
Awesome video. All these "will it starts" and "revive and drives" it was pretty cool to see a traveling body shop vid. Maybe you can start a new series of "can I turn these boxes into a cougar" 😆. Cool to hear the story from the owners as well.
I hope to check in on the Cougar as it progresses.
Scott this is a great video. Please do more. Thank you for them. 👍
Thanks, I’m looking for some more!
love watching your videos.they just keep getting better and better.
Thank you very much!
Awesome job hopefully it get that many views id like to see it painted hopefully they keep you updated on how the car is going
My first car! ‘68 w/289. I loved that beautiful beast!
This 289 is a little bigger now! 😂
@@vehcor Yes it is!
Great video! You make it seem very simple. I have driven past and to Atlanta a few times. Drove twice to Disney World, then once to Georgia to pick up out 28ft long trailer. I have never seen a salvage yard that neat and organized. However, I don't go to many as gravel roads and crutches are not a great combo 🤣
Hey, maybe engineer a door in that cargo fence while it's off so next time all you'd have to do is pop it open and go.
A very nice thing ya did, kudos.
That’s a cool car, and interesting. Would be nice to see you paint!
I love how you deal with the experts before they get a chance to know it all.
It saves me a sarcastic reply in the comments. They are so predictable. Now they just dislike and leave, the way it should be! 😂
@@vehcor Great work.
A wonderful video and a tremendous demonstration of skill and knowledge. After thirty+ years, I'll bet you don't screw up many things requiring fixing and can trust your intuition. That explains why you can "throw things up and weld them in place" with minimal deliberation.
Oh, I still screw up but I have gotten really good a fixing my screw ups! 😂
Great video and a great idea for for a new direction for the channel.
We got one of these given to us this year and now we gotta find time to get it running.
"A comfortable 90"........ that's what she said" absolutely killed me 😂😂
I usually censor myself with the “that’s what she said”. It never gets old to me but I have the sense of humor of a child. 😂
You're awesome, man.
I may have to contact you so you can come on down to California for some vacation time.
Ewww, not Cali! 😂
😂
Yes, I’m 57, born and raised here. It’s not the same state I knew as a kid. When my parents are gone… I’ll probably leave. Most of my friends have.
Good content Scott, the world is your Oyster with your skills.
Thank you for the support!
This is a great story Scott. Good on you. You are a saviour for these people. Want to come to Calgary Canada? We have a whole lot of rust up here for you to work on!!!
No! I draw the line at rust! 😂
You have rust AND ice! Win/win!
Damn Scott, you do real nice work.
One word of warning. Sleep with one eye open because Mr Spotty may be in a vengeful mood being left in the _land of rust and corruption_ while you had a soiree in the deep south without him. 😁
*Thank you* for the video. 👍
I’m always watching my back around that guy! 😂
A drive .crash fix it repeat travelling expert what more do you want Scott is the best.
Thanks!

Hobart welders are owned and made by the same parent company that owns Miller Electric. I am not familiar with who makes the welders for Snap-On, but Miller welding equipment is top notch.
Nice to see you can hang a quarter and a door too. Nice!
Yes, thanks
Nice job Scott the quarter panel install was done very well great work .
Thanks 👍
Great idea. Be neat to see what people need help with
Also provides a bit of a challenge and uncertainty!
I hope you get your million views!
You just want to torture me don’t you? 😂 Thanks for the support!
I like videos like this. It is interesting to see work done on the classics, noting the differences from modern cars.
Less electronics and uniformity, no ridiculous repair procedures. Sometimes I like the classics better!
Nice professional great job ❤️🇺🇸💪💯✅️🤔

I’m hoping to stop in a check on the progress if time allows.

Oh I’m so looking forward to seeing this video, I’ll edit it later if I feel the need 😊, so glad you’re back getting your hands dirty again Scott, I’m back already I’d have got my grinder out and cut a hole in the metal to fit the part in but then again I’m an idiot

Not to take away from your wrecked rebuilds, which are fascinating, but this was great. I think you should start a series, "Restoration Rescue".
Thanks for the support!
Good job
