- I bought this 1978 GMC one-ton dually pickup while in Wyoming visiting family. We fully restore it in my cousin's cow pasture, fix a few mechanical issues, and then hit the road home 1,200 miles to Kansas City!

What I really enjoy about your channel is you use your classic cars and trucks as daily drivers. They are not just classic vehicles, thay are practical cars and trucks so put them to work and enjoy them.
You can't find a rotted out square body in my area for $3500. You got a great deal.
In my area (western Washington state), they keep showing up at the scrapyard where I sell scrap metal! Once there, they're doomed.

It may be an outside spray can repaint, but damn does it look good from a distance! Also, that LTD is a damn good car! I'm glad yall made it home safe. Awesome video.

I painted a 1967 Chevy truck and a 1971 Ford truck with rattle cans and after rubbing them out they looked awesome. 20 years later the paint is still on them! Love our videos!
That ol Squarebody is pretty sweet!!! Quick and dirty paint job actually looks pretty good.
I actually use that oil filter on my 57 Chevy. It’s not that much more than a regular filter, adds an extra qt of capacity and probably a little extra cooling as it sits more into the air flow.
There was a time when my wife's truck was leaking oil, I found the leak where the filter adapter plate bolts to the block. I was using a gallon a week. I just kept adding oil until the leak was clean oil and no longer black. Then I fixed the leak. I flushed my entire engine out through many cities lol. Now that's a PBG move right there!!!

My cousin Dean owns the largest taxidermy shop in America in Cody Wyoming. I built him a hot rod Challenger back in the 80's.

@@DannebergAcres Probably as Dalton pointed out they just chucked some pre-used oil in there. Given then mystery consumption issue, I almost don't blame them. It's going to be out of the engine by 100 miles anyways.
I can honestly say that I’m glad I’m not the only one who would do a rattle can paint job on something before I had to drive it that far. I can’t wait to see the Scout video!

That AC Delco oil filter is a great oil 🛢 filter! I used it on my 1972 SS454 Elcamino all the time. Believe it or not, along with using Amzoil, I have 403,000 miles on that big block!

Yeah and that filter is for a 350 but its actually intended for the marine motors, not the road versions
@@RUclipsAIbotNot correct at all. That is a 2-ton truck filter. They came on C60-C70 chassis stuff like school buses, tow trucks, etc. Yes 71 passenger buses commonly had 350s in them.

The gigantor oil filter was used in 2 1/2 ton trucks with small or big blocks from the factory and I've used them as long as they fit with headers more oil can go through the filter instead of the bypass
I am in NH. 64 years old. I come in from doing cab corners on my 1986 four door dually four wheel dually K-30. It is hot for NH. today. What do I do is turn on the squawk box and there you are doing a Dually. Bingo My 86 is my daily driver with a HT383 bolted to a 400 turbo and a transfer case. Danna 60 leaf springs in the front and Danna 70 drums in the rear. Gw. 7700 lbs. You know what I mean when I say you got a truck. The thing is you don’t have any self-tappers in it yet.

Whilst my car has been on the road driving, new brakes , wheel bearings,tires,ball joints,brake lines front and rear, full interior tear out seats and carpet,rust proofing underneath,trunk clean out and paint, new windshield.,re wire headlights and stereo. @@RustyZipper Mustang convertible that sat for 12 years near Stave Dam. It had 2 inches of moss on the roof and moss on the seat's. Many more repairs have been done than what was said. Vehicles that sit in B,C mostly rott to the ground unless stored properly.
Man, this brings back memories. My dad took me to pick up a 1974 f100 4x4 from my uncle in East Helena, Montana when I was about 6. When I was 15 he took me to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to pickup a 1968 F100 2wd with a 390. We lived near the beach in Washington state at those times and I'll never forget those trips. About 4 years ago we made the opposite trip from Wyoming to Washington to pick up a 1973 f250 highboy with a 390 swap I picked up for 900 bucks. Drove it all the way back without a single issue. Those are my favorite trips.

Belt dressing hack: use a plain bar of white soap and let it rub the contact surface of the belt while the engine is running. It will lubricate the belt and let it run over misaligned pulleys without destroying itself. It also quiets squeals and it WON’T make the belt slip.
It also cleans the pulleys!
And then, take a shower!
Maple syrup, or any syrup get the belt to grip good to.

My brother lived in Gillette Wy. Went to visit him driving a 76 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 454 big block. Ran into a wind storm and was getting a whopping 3 mpg at 45 mph.
Spent the winter there and he had to keep his Furd (company truck) running almost 24/7. Even at 25 below my old beat up Chevy would start with no issues. Lord, ya gotta love the old trucks!

Agreed about I-80. I've driven most of the whole thing multiple times. It's hypnotic in all the worst ways. Sometimes you have to downshift just to stay awake.

Especially considering how that rear end gear is, and the fact you were pushing 80 most of the way.. lol. That SBC must have been singing. Side note, the background score music is awesome. Brought back memories driving my dads old ‘86 K20 from my home in northern MN all the way to Laramie WY for WyoTech. 4.10 gears and turbo 400 made the rpm’s sing for miles. Had both tanks sucked dry by Sioux Falls SD. Dad always ran the Baldwin equivalent of the tall filter. Easier to get a hold of for changing and held extra oil.

To even find one not a rusted out hulk in the North East is a pipe dream at any price...I need to travel more 🙃😂 Nothing like a good rattle canning to get you far, at least 1200 miles, yes sir 😁Please don't ever change Dalton, you folks are the best! I was on vacation with a friend of mine down at the beach a few years ago. They have those places that will air brush t-shirts with whatever you want on them. He is a truck driver. I had a shirt made for him with a picture of a big rig on it that says "I Jake Brake for Lot Lizards!" on it. 😂

Hello. Great videos. No visible oil leak or smoke. I had a car like that years ago. On the highway the heads fill with oil & oil runs down the valve guides, because the oil returns are clogged with sludge. You cant see the smoke at 60 / 80 miles per hour. Years ago I worked with a guy who said he never changed his oil in 15 years & was proud of it.

From tractor paint jobs to rattle can, it truly amazes me how great you can make it look. I'm getting determined to rattle can one of my project trucks.

Jess, you are a trooper girl, because that wisdom tooth, and then a 1000+ mile drive, not the best timing. Trying to ear and drink, without losing the packing, i remember that.
That truck looked good with that rattle can paint job, much better than multi colored. Nice solid truck's like that are hard to find. JD always cracks me up, he's up for all of it, and always jumps into help with anything you ask him to do. He sure has learned a lot from you Dalton, good job. I think he and Bentley from VGG are about the same age, and it's crazy how much more he knows about car's. I'm not saying anything bad about Bentley, it's just that i think his dad has so many obligations that he doesn't have the quality time that you have to teach JD. I love how you always do thing's as a family, more parent's should spend time with their kid's, instead of giving them a tablet or video game's to keep them buisy. Some parent's still have kid's that are 30 living at home playing video game's, and the parent's pay for everything. When i see it, it's really sad.

The giant oil filter adds a full quart to your oil capacity. That's a good thing.
Last time I was out that way I hit a snow storm in the big horn range tourist traffic was skiing down those things like crazy! Couldn't believe how many people didn't know how to downshift instead of braking lol.
Always thought It was crazy people used to drive stuff like this across the country everyday and never thought twice about it.

I know people are going to think I'm full of it but I worked with a fellow back in 78 and the power steering belt was screaming and I was going to use some belt stuff and he told me to just get a bar of soap and rub it on the belt. Did that and it stopped it from screaming. I use that trick every time I have heard one every since then. Thanks for the video and I hope you and the family had a good time. Never can spend enough time with your Grandparents ,I know .
I'm driving my 76 f150 to Iola next weekend, that will be my furthest haul (135 miles each way) since pulling her out of her field coffin where she sat for 20 years. Thanks for always inspiring us!

Way to teach your son, he is going to be just as knowledgeable as his dad someday. My son likes working on cars but has so many other things he likes to do better that he never wanted to make it his lifestyle. I learned at the Ford garage watching mechanics trying to learn all I could to help my dad who was a mechanic there. He could not read or write nor could he remember how to fix anything. I was a gifted child able to remember where anything went as deep as they had to go to fix whatever it was. I could instruct my dad on any repair after a couple years of watching the old timer mechanics fix things. I sat on top of a rolling staircase ladder they used to fetch parts kept high. Got my dad two raises but right after I had to start kindergarten he got fired. I have lived the car lifestyle my whole life, my dad didn’t teach me anything about cars but I learned them because of him always taking me to work and encouraging me. He would ask me how I could be so smart. He said I got all the muscles and you got all the brains. He never owned a car and couldn’t get a license because he couldn’t read. He loved riding in my customs, the bigger the car was, the more he liked it. I miss him, he passed a few years back. Glad JD has such a great start and good teacher. He will remember your teachings. Hope he sticks with it.

Nice to see the old "Stinker Truck Stop" is still there. Looks like a solid truck. Taller tires will get better mileage on the open road. Around town it'll use more gas. Cheaper than regearing it on the road. Also those big mud flaps don't help fuel mileage but you need them on a dually. A ZF5 will bolt right up if you can find one.
