Thanks for keeping it real Dalton! Jessie has a sweet little Cobra that she’ll enjoy and treasure. You don’t have to try and be anything but yourself, it’s why a lot of us are here watching!
I know absolutely nothing about cars and never been a “car guy” so never watched videos like this, but your comedy mixed with your whole family dynamic actually keeps me watching. You sir made someone that has no idea what’s going on a fan, and definitely gonna be watching more and throwing on notifications for more in the future.
Im glad your vid popped up in my recommended feed today. Youve more than earned my sub. Ive always had a soft spot for older stangs. Great work, i know exactly what you went through. I miss having a project car. As a side note, your family is perfect. Everyone willing to help out. Not once did you scream about "hold the damn flashlight still".
Love the II. Just a thought - The car was already old when it was 10 years old. Then it ran until it was 22 years old. After another 23 years of sitting, you drive it at 3500 RPM for a couple hundred miles on the highway. All I have to say is: You are a brave man. I have to see more of this. Subscribed!
I gotta agree. You even pointed out the dried kwik seal while replacing the water pump. Waited days for the clutch yet never checked the head gaskets. Not even a compression test. The car keeps blowing steam out the overflow and the answer is to take it on a couple hundred mile road trip at the aforementioned 3500 rpm average. Lol. That is extremely brave. Then again... I guess it's Jesse's car. Love the car. Have since watching Charlie's angels as a kid.
I love how you teach your son. I remember being that age with my step dad and not really trying to gather all the info. But I followed in his footsteps, went to community college for automotive, and now we both still teach each other things in the shop. Appreciate you PBG! Just recently found your channel
I look forward to the low budget rebuilds. Thanks for sharing. JD is really coming along on skills and camera work. In 86, in high school, I had a 72 Nova, a friend had a 69 Mustang, and our other friend had a black Mustang Cobra. It was hard to keep up with that little light car on the back roads.
That's a cool car, Dalton. Back in about 1982, the Ford dealer took a red King Cobra in on trade. It looked like it just came off the showroom floor, extremely nice. It had t-tops and a 4 speed. I got to drive it for a while and had a lot of fun in it. Good times.
Looks like you left off the “Pinto go Boom! Shield when you put the new gas tank in the Mustang Cobra. Now your no longer NHTSA recall compliant. (The KA-Boom shield is that shield that went between the gas tank and rear differential.) Keeps the rear differential from punching a hole in the tank and sparking a fire of passion erupting with an encounter between the Mustang and an old Ford Probe.
As always I enjoy your positive input on your videos. Jess adds the extra touch as much as Mook adds to Junkyards content. Even JD due seems to enjoy working with her. I think you all are building a great team!
The addition of Jesse to your channel is a good plus. It's always a good thing to have a different opinion from someone who thinks completely different. And I bet you're probably a little happier also.
From one MO to another awesome to watch your late Grandfathers guidance and insights in your builds and wit!! Keep up on your rambles and I hope these messages keep you motivated!! Dalton Jess and JD ❤
It was well worth waiting for this video. Resurrecting such a cool, iconic car is a good thing in anybody's book. The Mustang II never got much love, but the King Cobra was awesome. It is a shame so few were made (under 4000, if memory serves), but it also makes them a bit more special. There was a blue with red accents, one in my old neighborhood that always got my attention as a kid when I saw it. My Mom had a 79 Fox Body Cobra with the 2.3 Turbo. It was a bit of a gutless, damp squid, but it looked cool and had a TURBO. It spooled up nicely, and my Dad added water injection to control its propensity to ping on boost. It only ever drank Gasohol from a local Mohawk fuel station, which made it much better than regular pump fuel. I am really looking forward to the next installment of your King Cobra. Are you just going to paint, or will it be treated to a complete decal kit? The white and Blue look spectacular. Well done Jesse and JD for all their input too. You all seem very much in sync, and it makes for great content. Best, Neil :-)
I've been waiting for this one thankyou Dalton for all the effort you put into your videos, every one I watch as soon as it drops and I learn so much from them, appreciate you from New Zealand my guy ❤
Had a 76!! They were bad about the hatchbacks rusting out unless it was in a garage or carport! Mine looked like the "Charlie's Angels" blue stripes, on mine, had louvers on the rear side windows also!😲
Dalton, I have enjoyed your content for quite some time. I understand that this is not why you do this, but I wanted to comment, even if you never see it, and let you know that I find your content very comforting. Dealing with a lot of things in my life crashing down all at once right now, and your content is helping me get through it. I know how crazy that sounds, but please know I appreciate the content. Truly one of a kind. Thank you for what you do.
Highlight of the week! Thank you, got a gallon of fresh coffee ready and now i'm gonna lean back, watch the video and pretend the rainiest day in Stockholm isn't real outside my window.
Dalton, you did real well there. JD is a good young fella, and Jess seems just right for you both, and pretty easy on the eye too. Always a bonus haha. Good to see you all doing so well together. Long may it last!
i think this has to be one of if not my fav's when it comes to rebuilds. mustang 2 where so unappreciated and I've always had a soft spot for them! add that to the family dynamic you guys have working together just way fun to watch hope to see more on this car!
Nice! I've never seen one of these before, this is a decent shape to boot....minus the motor of course. I love watching you and Jess and JD working together, you make an awesome team ❤
Best rust penetrant lubricant I've ever found was non-stick canola oil cooking spray. Spray it on, leave it sit overnight and then spray it one more time and it nearly never fails.
Haven't watched it yet, just saw the notification (Since I find notifications loathsome and disable them on my phone for everything except texts and calls), but I already know this is gonna be a good one. The hell you and other youtubers reviving cars like these go through keeps me going working on my old garbage. Keep up the great work, all of you, JD and Jess included. Videos like these keep me motivated even though I can be a bit of an idiot at times and forget the simplest things like how I did a dumb and forgot that the water pump runs off the power steering, and not the alternator, and my truck ain't got no power steering (I didn't forget it didn't have power steering, that's intentional, and factory, I want a 1 belt simple as hell V8 4 speed rat rod truck). There aren't many junkyards around with old American iron that I can access on a whim, or access at all, sooooo, I had to spend money on gaudy pulleys on a greaseball engine, that's always fun. I'm gonna try and see if I can make it run off a Chevy style 3 wire alternator converted to a 1 wire or just get my Mopar alternator converted to 1 wire. Oh yeah and my 318 had the heavy duty alternator, which is the big SOB with two pulleys, so that's fun.
40+ years ago I had a buddy with a Mustang II. 4 cylinders under the hood. Absolute gutless wonder. 😂Step on the gas and you might pass oncoming traffic. lol Anyway, good show, enjoyed the rebuild of the King Cobra. 👍
I used to own a brown 78 King Cobra! 302 wuth a 4 spd! Such a malaise Era car but was such a looker! Not a lot of horsepower, but plenty of torque! Was super stoked to see you pull this car out of the barn. This was a limited run of cars....I think Ford built around 5000 units of the King Cobra.
Great video. I came home from the hospital as a baby in my father's 1978 King Cobra. Then I was riding in it at the ripe age of 6 when the engine blew. Keep them coming Cheers!
Don't know if this will even get your way but if you want those wheels clean get some paint stripper and soak them in it, that yellow gunk is decaying clear coat, a lot of aluminum/mag wheels were done that way for a LONG time and unfortunately that stuff is pretty stubborn, they put it on to prevent the aluminum from tarnishing. I had a set of cadillac wheels that had started yellowing like that and hit them with stripper, polished them back out to a shine and threw some car wax on them with a clean polishing rag, they've stayed shiny and fairly clean for the last few years. Hope it helps, give a fella a shout if you're ever in northeast oklahoma and need some help
I have huge respect for you and the people around you for putting in such hard work putting out these high quality entertainment for us average blue collar budget folks 😊
Your wife is a "keeper" dude, the way she jumps in and helps out and cleaned out that engine bay was "next level." Can't hardly find a gal who is willing to get her hands dirty anymore. Score.
I was just about to comment about that and say OMG you found the unicorn! Not only did she help but she actually cleaned the interior in freezing cold! Eff youtube, CLONE HER you'll make $$$$$$$$$$$$.
Awesome to see a start to finish on a decent project. I'm sure you could have made it a 2 or 3 part video but glad to see one every once and a while. Also nice car and glad you are planning on possible doing more with it.
Great video and work on the Cobra! A very nice looking car. Awesome to see JD and Jesse working on cars alongside you. Cool seeing the family enjoy working on cool cars. Would love to rebuild an old car with my fiance and kids one. Great work bud, keep it up!
Great video as always. I agree with the many previous comments that Jess and JD add greatness to the team. I love the life lessons that you are teaching Pole Barn Garage junior. Looking forward to that new 460 going into the Torino...
*this mustang is very rare that is a king Cobra Mustang which was the hottest of the bunch back then above the Cobra ii package the king cobra is very valuable depending on the condition and it's extremely rare to see an original one you should definitely put the original graphics on it to make it stand out more the overall this thing is solid!*
Great video as usual. Hilarious and entertaining as always and its nice to see that Mustang II back on the road. It is pretty clean and definitely deserves some paint work and brought back to its former glory. I have always liked these cars and i think they get way too much hate imo especially nowadays.
My favorite part of the show is how you are all a FAMILY . Definitely something everyone should take notice of . The wife , the kid , the rest of the family , friends . Everyone working together . F'n dope !
When I was a kid I think I was 10 to 12 My brother had a 1978 white with blue Cobra II. His head factory aluminum slots. And being as a kid and going for a ride in it I thought I was cool lol And it had some upgrades like the four barrel black leather interior four on the floor. And he could never get third gear rubber but my other brother who was 17 at the time could lol And it made him mad. I'll always remember that car and this brings back some good memories for me. Thank you I am a new subscriber
Glad to see you save this Cobra 2! My brother had one when he was 19 and I was 14 and I always wanted it. He wound up selling it to a guy that made it into a racecar. They were ahead of their time as far as looks go IMO.
I had one these for one of my first cars. Cobra2. I like them with the V8 and air shocks, jacked up in back with big fat tires. I had mine like that and haven't seen many like it. Good luck with yours
Dalton, love seeing you continue to succeed and including your family in the videos. Can't wait to see you quit your job, your new home and new mega shop. Well deserved and absolutely earned.
Apart from the worn and torn issues, this is in astoundingly good shape and I for one would genuinely love to drive this. Sometimes the more unloved models are the best ones because there is less guilt when just driving and enjoying them, plus you get to be different from everyone else. It looks great no matter what anyone said about the stang 2 back in the day, it aged well and seems fun now.
Really dig how the whole family lends a hand! My big brother (RIP) had a black with gold racing stripes Mustang Cobra II with a 302...he loved that car...so did I.
Man oh man what a great found u find. My favourite mustage/muscle car in the world. I love this car since I was around 11 years old now I’m turning 54. Plus u just get to love a woman that knows her around a vehicle. Lots of love from Canada 🇨🇦🏎️
I just had to make another comment. I think it’s unbelievable how your whole family works together on this stuff I think it’s a beautiful thing man I envy you and your family bro you got going on man even if you ain’t rich you got going on.
Word of advice on the vacuum, buy bags for it. I recently started using them. It has changed how I clean my shop. And, I don't have to beat the hell out of the filter anymore.
Love this video because the King Cobra 78 was the car. I learned how to drive a stick shift after a night of drinking!! 😅 My friend told me to get in your driving.
Hwllo from Lubbock Texas. Just 30 miles from Waylon Jennings hometown of Littlefield Texas. I got to see him in concert in 88 in Littlefield. Was a Free concert. Great job on the King Cobra
Ohmygosh!!! You are hilarious! I’m 56 and know nothing about cars. My daddy was a heavy equipment mechanic, but I guess being a girl, he didn’t extend his knowledge to me. I have no idea what you are talking about but I love how involved your family is with your project. Totally entertaining! Love your content!
glad to see you save the king cobra 2!! and good thing you had the other one. surprised how good shape it is for sitting for so long. thanks for saving this mustang!
Thanks for creating this content it gives me the ambition to complete the second half of my own similar will-it-run video... I pulled my own white 1978 Sunbird Formula, out of its 10-year corner barn parking spot, and V8 swapped a nearly identical formula Sunbird that I couldn't save. Its amazing how many similarities their are with the Fomoco IIs and the GM H body cars.
My parents had a cobra when I was a kid. Theirs had the automatic and t tops. My dad would squeal the tiny tires every time he took off. My brother and I would get thrown all over in the backseat. Tiny car with a v8 has always been a plus. This was my first video of yours that I watched. New subscriber here.
Had one of these as my first car. It wasn't a king cobra but a mustang II. Had some fun in it and it had issues. Your video took me back for sure. Those aftermarket valve covers were an issue for me too.
that small tank was an option that added IIRC 3 gallons of extra gas, I added one from the special options list one when I special ordered a Mach 1 variant in 1976 from my dealer, it gave me an extra 50 to 75 miles till I needed to fill up when on long trips
Dalton another amazing video! I am a ford enthusiast and collector myself. Those Mustang ll’s have been a guilty pleasure of mine for a long time. I have had several of those 78’s myself, and I agree that yours was extremely clean…..much cleaner than what I have found in the Cincinnati area. It’s a shame that T-top had to be relegated to a parts car, but you were correct in your assumption of its damage. I have tried to correct similar damage on prior 74-78’s, and they are never right afterwards. The way the front frame, and geometry is in the front of them they were never made to sustain low and hard impacts. If I had to guess I would say the control arm tabs are bent for sure, as well as every piece of suspension.
Thanks for the water tip, I just started a 1987 BMW after 6 years abandoned and the atf/acetone did nothing for it, it's a smoker, as soon as I replace the rotted out freeze plugs and get it running for more than a few seconds I'll try it.
What an awesome car, and a true family affair. Everyone pitched in and I don't know how you do it, Dalton having a full time job and then come home just to work more. Good thing you're young !
My brother had a 76 black and gold cobra. We installed a Edelbrock performer intake, Holley 600 cfm carb. and headers, then it became a fun car. We called it a one wheel wonder because it didn’t have posi.
such memories. had a 75 coupe with the 302, but auto c4 with a shift kit,, was really quick off the line.. put a holley 4 barrel, dart heads, edlebrock performer intake.. so fun to drive. c4 had to be rebuilt every few years. i was so hard on that car.. it would peg the speedo at 120.
i think theres a button to push while turning the key or removing the key, opposite sidet to ignition cylinder, my dad has 78 king cobra atm, stroked out to 347ci, lsd, its awesome car
Ha ha. I just drove my Gold 72 Lemans 2 door hardtop to work today. It just turned 91,000 miles, and not a rust spot on it. Your 71 looks sooooo clean.
@@PoleBarnGarage Oh, nice. I have a trim piece that just fell of my 72 grill. I found a guy that is converting his 72 into the Endura front end, and will give me his original grills. I just have to go pick them up.

I was just about to comment about that and say OMG you found the unicorn! Not only did she help but she actually cleaned the interior in freezing cold! Eff youtube, CLONE HER you'll make $$$$$$$$$$$$.
She is one in a million! AND she can drive stick shift?!?! I love her too! What a doll :) don’t EVER let go of her ❤❤
Totally uncalled for dude!
It’s tv Billy. They are in it for the youtube $, nobody knows who these people are behind closed doors.
This is the best commentary for anything I've ever seen. I've never laughed so hard watching a guy fix a car

Great work bud, keep it up!
mustang 2 a good looking car? great video but way to much work on the worst mustang ever
Finally a channel that most of us can relate to... 🇺🇸🍻
All three of you are awesome, loving this channel more and more, fairly new here but I catch every one as soon as I can
Great video as always.
I really appreciate that you put the entire build in one vid SUBSCRIBER 4life I love this vid
Thanks!
Great video as usual. Hilarious and entertaining as always and its nice to see that Mustang II back on the road. It is pretty clean and definitely deserves some paint work and brought back to its former glory. I have always liked these cars and i think they get way too much hate imo especially nowadays.
It’s gonna need a lot of work and a motor rebuild before it ever needs paint. Lipstick on a pig , remember that saying 😂😂
My favorite part of the show is how you are all a FAMILY . Definitely something everyone should take notice of . The wife , the kid , the rest of the family , friends . Everyone working together . F'n dope !
Happy Birthday Jess! Great video! Nice looking car👍🏻
Thank you for sharing🙂
Thank you! :)
We need to start a fundraiser or go fund me campaign to get Dalton a new barn roof!
I bet he’d buy more vehicles with the dough
"You know how we're going to take care of this problem? By doing absolutely nothing."
JD: " As usual." 😂
Wish he would stop copying quotes from Derek at VGG
I had one these for one of my first cars. Cobra2. I like them with the V8 and air shocks, jacked up in back with big fat tires. I had mine like that and haven't seen many like it. Good luck with yours
Dalton, love seeing you continue to succeed and including your family in the videos. Can't wait to see you quit your job, your new home and new mega shop. Well deserved and absolutely earned.
Very Nice (borat impression)
Apart from the worn and torn issues, this is in astoundingly good shape and I for one would genuinely love to drive this.
Sometimes the more unloved models are the best ones because there is less guilt when just driving and enjoying them, plus you get to be different from everyone else.
It looks great no matter what anyone said about the stang 2 back in the day, it aged well and seems fun now.
Now here is education 105.
LOVE SEEING YOUR FAMILY HELPING YOU. YALL ARE GREAT TOGETHER!!
Really dig how the whole family lends a hand! My big brother (RIP) had a black with gold racing stripes Mustang Cobra II with a 302...he loved that car...so did I.
Might be time for another engine rebuild
No doubt
Man oh man what a great found u find. My favourite mustage/muscle car in the world. I love this car since I was around 11 years old now I’m turning 54. Plus u just get to love a woman that knows her around a vehicle. Lots of love from Canada 🇨🇦🏎️
I’ve been using Castro Super clean for 30 years and had never thought to clean bearings with it. So simple yet brilliant. Thanks
I love how your family just jumps right in to help Dad beautiful thing ❤
Real talk: I can't believe the 8-track player works. This whole build is so much. It looks like a good car came from hard work.
Love this video because the King Cobra 78 was the car. I learned how to drive a stick shift after a night of drinking!! 😅 My friend told me to get in your driving.
Can't wait for part two, hopefully you can seal the surge tank back up and figure out why its spewing so much oil
Thanks! Hope you check out the rest of em
Had one of these as my first car. It wasn't a king cobra but a mustang II. Had some fun in it and it had issues. Your video took me back for sure. Those aftermarket valve covers were an issue for me too.
the 302 thats locked up can be over sized then put bigger pistons in to make it a faster then stock engine
Really like this one, also thoroughly enjoyed seeing more of Jess in the videos!
that small tank was an option that added IIRC 3 gallons of extra gas, I added one from the special options list one when I special ordered a Mach 1 variant in 1976 from my dealer, it gave me an extra 50 to 75 miles till I needed to fill up when on long trips
20:50 Those braces came only on the T-top units. The battery side ones are highly sought after. Good idea to install it on the King anyhow.
It's actually a 72, with 71 grilles lol
@@PoleBarnGarage Oh, nice. I have a trim piece that just fell of my 72 grill. I found a guy that is converting his 72 into the Endura front end, and will give me his original grills. I just have to go pick them up.
