Ah, yes, freeze out plugs. Had a '65 Polara Sport 383 in the late '70s. My first car, got it free, one owner who used only water no coolant. The inside of the block rusted and half blocked the water jackets...tried like hell but could never solve that issue except by beating the hell out of it. Freeze plugs rusted through during fall finals week in college...by the time I could work on, everyone else had left for winter break, so no help at all. Crawled underneath it in a parking lot as it started snowing. By the time I had replaced 3 (!) the snow was about 14" deep and I had to dig my way out from under the car. Got me 7hrs to home though, so I guess that's a win. Love the vid...many blessings to all!

Great deal on that truck!! I lucked out and found a 1998 K1500 Silverado 4X4, 350 Engine, with snow plow and less than 80,000 miles on it. I bought it super cheap. The truck was stored inside and had not been on the road since the owner passed , that was 12 years ago. I like the older Chevys. Thanks for taking us along Thomas and thumbs UP!!

Oh man! 2 hours of OBS goodness, what a treat! I'm more of a 99-07 guy myself. Never cared much for the 88-98 body style but I think from seeing how much you like those trucks and watching you work on them I'm starting to like them. That's kind of funny about the wheels. As I was watching I was thinking to myself "are those gonna fit/how does he know those aren't gonna rub?" and sure enough they did rub. Oh well. Happens to the best of us, myself included. I tried putting a nice set of 20x12.5's on my 01 chevy but they ended up rubbing on the front. I'm not much of a lift kit guy so I sold them to a buddy who is. So luckily for me it wasn't a total waste of money. Hopefully you have some good luck as well and those fit on something else.
Did I just watch mortske mess around with a water pump for an hour? Then a whole team of guys time-lapse all the hard work? What is this? MORTSKETREND?

You got a steal of a deal with this Chevy... really nice looking body with zero rust, decent original paint, and just needing some basic d-i-y type repairs. Very economical upgrade possibilities, and an LS will go into it like butter (when the 4.3 gives up, or you get tired of it!). Wish I could fall into one just like it for $500!
Hey Mort, great video. What nice truck , what steal. Great to see the whole group working on stuff today. I loved how you lowered the 98. It looks really good. I think an LS swap would be awesome in that truck. Enjoy this video immensely. Thank you for all the great content in this one .Have a great week.
That truck is in great shape. My 97 had the chrome wheel well trim and that is a perfect place to start rust. Rear bumpers also usually look almost nonexistent at a certain point. Good score even with some money dumped in.
Wow you lucked up with that truck it's a good looking truck with no rust you can't beat that the truck will super nice when you get it all done awesome video Mortske thanks
I'm glad I'm not the only one lol.. we had a 2008 King Ranch come through the shop, and it had this loud knocking sound coming from the motor. Louder than what I just heard on your video. And a coup of us swore it needed something big in the bottom end. This older mechanic came in from another shop and told us it was the water pump. It was the 5.4 but I'm sure the 4.6 could do it too. Crazy man, I learned something that day for sure.
@MortskeRepair 🤣 seriously man. That shit was way louder than what you just had. Louder than any of your buddies beating on the exhaust tip or undercarriage with a wrench. It was loud.
10s will fit on the back of square bodies no problem. Thats what we run on ours. I just bought a OBS extended cab thats dropped. Looks good man keep up the good times.

My old 4.3 was not too bad, only ran like crud twice, one bad o2 Sensor, and one set of plugs and wires. Maxim: " If Good Fortune comes to you, let it in, and offer it a comfortable Seat" Much improved Mr. Mortske.
I used Dishwasher Pods in my 69 Olds 442 when I had that problem and they worked just like the powder. Flushed it with Water about 4 times because I could not get the Drain plugs out of the Block. You do not want to twist those off but I am not telling you anything. I had a 97 K10 Chevy and you are right about the Seats. My 08 and 16 were not as comforable.
You did great price wise and actually I was surprised at how clean this truck was, top and bottom. I owned 3 S-10's , 2000 was the oldest and my last one was 2003. Here because of the salt, everywhere, they get pretty rusted out in a short time. Always changing control arms, and cab mounts, but one thing other than oil change and very odd tuneup plugs wires all that good stuff, those 4.3 engines are tough as nails. For what they were, they had some pepper under the hood. All my burn rubber no issue. First s-10 I had had 500000 kilometers, on it and was still going strong when I junked it because of rust. It's a decent truck what you have there, and from what I know are desirable for many reasons. Great video, keep it up, and thanks.
With all those leaks, I thought one was going to push you over the edge and yank the engine out. Patience paid off. If you do LS swap it in the future, at least you don't get yourself into all that work due to momentary frustration. I think the truck looks great! Given how it started, you definitely polished this up.
Went through same deal, buddy. 98 Z71 had pushed left front freeze plug and busted the radiator. I knew it when I bought it. The price was right! It was much easier with all front suspension off for lift kit install. Still sucked because I don't have a lift......I'll be that guy
I run this rim and I'm at a 5/7 drop. I run a low pro tire, rolled fenders and some BFH work. Also cheap spindles will push your track with out. I only cruise my truck and haul lite loads if anything at all. Tire size is your problem with that much drop. Thanks for the entertainment, really enjoy your channel.
@@MortskeRepair reading these comments. You gave the same response I give when people ask why did you lower that truck in saying I have other vehicles to haul with. I also add cause it's my truck. Seems they missed when you said that.
Although many if not all bemoan the Farketplace--where would be without it and Mortske Monday? It's like a peanut butter and jelly bean sandwich for the soul!😆
Even tho lowered truck ain't my thing. I can still appreciate the process of how it's done. Waiting for you to throw us for a loop, and lift a truck lol. Great video as always.
Favorite Chevy truck was a 2002 with the 4.8 Was my company truck for 5 years 150K no issues ever and replaced by a 2007 with a 5.3 which was nothing but trouble Transmission replaced at 6 miles yep 6 And when the dealership went to give it back the fuel pump was out, the first of several. That truck was the definition of Nemesis and I was glad to see it go. All the 4.3 trucks we had back then died early. Overheating issues in the Gulf Coast oven.
@MortskeeRepair 4.3 seems to have an oil passage issue on some blocks with bad flow to the driver side bank, raises heat in the top of the engine and head gasket or valve issues. Many times comically catastrophic. Our fleet manager hates them. 5.3 has great power but can have problems after the 2007 GMT900 change, as well as the damn cylinder cutout thing. The 4.8 is a little more relaxed but still quite strong and seems to live a lot longer a lot happier. If I was looking to swap the 4.8 is the one. Had the 2002 Silverado company truck for 150k or so and then had my own 2004 Yukon that I sold to Dad to haul his old tractors around with. Still going at 20 years old with 160k+ Ill probably get that one back in the estate. Love the channel, Mojo and my Dad would get along. Give Duff a pat on the head for me
Had a 97 GMC safari minivan. Called it the sorry Safari It had power seats and there were the very comfortable cloth ones, you are definitely right. Best seats GM ever made. Too bad at the rest of the van was junk. Glad I bought the extended warranty probably got eight to $10,000 worth of work out of that warranty. Sold it five years later. The engine had plenty of power and a very comfortable nine passenger minivan. Took lots of trips in it. just wish it had been more reliable.
56:25 HA HA!!!! TOLD YOU SOOOOO!!!! on another video Mortske. Never trust those radiator tranny coolers! Especially on them cheap luminum and plastic rads that are only good for 100k then need replacing!....HAHAHA I knew this day would come for you MORTSKE! HA HA TOLD YOU SOOOOO!😂😂😂👍 FROM YOUR TEACHER!🤣
The impression I got when watching this episode was the ‘secret’ Mortske ingredient that gets applied: A ton of Elbow Grease! He even got some on Duff! Love The Duff!
Another great video and great buy too. You should get a job doing this Mr. Mortske, you're pretty good at it. The windshield wiper linkage replacement portion was good, the little Japanese trucks are the same procedure but smaller work areas. Also, the manufacturers consulted Gillete and Schick to obtain an appropriate edge on the body sheet metal. Yes; You will bleed. Replacement of the wiper motor looks like a murder scene. Remember not to fuss about a 40-minute phone call from Puddin using up and 1/8 of your workday because it burned up over 1/2 of his workday. LOL. Shots fired!
We still had junk yards around full of old cars and parts were cheap. Stick transmissions were $25. Three speeds of course. The cars were all 1950s models and easy to work on. Nobody wanted an automatic transmission. Anyway! Four new tires were $100 mounted, balanced and installed. (Retreads of course) I really enjoy your videos. Dave in San Francisco

I had a 97 Chevy Cheyenne with the 4.3 and a 5-speed. My first new truck. It was a fun truck, when it ran. It always had a miss from new. Multiple dealers wouldn't do anything about it. They'd either lie and tell me they couldn't feel it, or they'd change the plugs and wires and send me on my way. Had a garage look at it, they spent all day on it couldn't find anything wrong, told me they wouldn't charge me if I promised never to bring it back! Traded it with the same miss I bought it with.

Another great full length feature presentation, by our friend in the great state of Mortske. Thank yoiu for sharing, the world is better now. Be well.
Thanks again!
thank you for pulling up a good memory sir. life is good. thank you.

Puddin just called and said he's the key to all your pressure washing needs.... great video love the obs's
Glad you liked the video
98 same year I Graduated from High School...... A Good Looking generation of Gm Trucks
Thats a really good looking truck Mortske. Glad you didn't kill it.
Thanks! I think it turned out pretty nice.
Good info!
She turned to be a nice looking OBS with some attention and love ..... Great deal !
Appreciate it, they are good trucks!
Good looking truck lowered like that. Rims make the rig, so do it right. Quality videos, thanks Mortske.
Love your channel. Been watching for a few years. I look forward to the next video
Thanks! Glad you enjoy the content.
Just simply beautiful build bud.
Thanks! I'm excited about this one.
Nice video Mortske. Classic truck and worth your time and attention. Fun project. TY.
Thanks 👍
Early Christmas gift for 500. bucks, always enjoy Mortske’s Monday’s.
I love that truck that was a score thank you for taking that purple tint off masonry feel like a minute sci-fi movie😊
When you ripped the seat out to swap it I was legit impressed you didn't do the heater core then with all the extra space
Mojo “no it’s the water pump” 😂😂 just the way he says stuff all hail Mojo
Lol
Easy shared parts with the 350 as the 4.3 just has a couple cylinders lopped off - thanks for the hard work and good call saving it. Sweet look.
Right on
nice transformation, it´s a cool car now, greatings from germany/blackforest
Thanks! 👍
With all those leaks, I thought one was going to push you over the edge and yank the engine out. Patience paid off. If you do LS swap it in the future, at least you don't get yourself into all that work due to momentary frustration.
I think the truck looks great! Given how it started, you definitely polished this up.
I know, I was pretty close to pulling the engine haha!
Appreciate the advice!
Thanks for another good one Mr. Mortske! That is a pretty nice rig!
Thanks! It’s a good truck!
Even tho lowered truck ain't my thing. I can still appreciate the process of how it's done. Waiting for you to throw us for a loop, and lift a truck lol. Great video as always.
Right on
Favorite Chevy truck was a 2002 with the 4.8 Was my company truck for 5 years 150K no issues ever and replaced by a 2007 with a 5.3 which was nothing but trouble Transmission replaced at 6 miles yep 6 And when the dealership went to give it back the fuel pump was out, the first of several.
Oh wow!
Mortske is hero!! Always saving Mondays at work
The impression I got when watching this episode was the ‘secret’ Mortske ingredient that gets applied:
A ton of Elbow Grease!
Those were the days!
One of the nicer vehicles projects on your channel....cant go wrong with the receiver hitch on .... because it t has the hoop hooks up front....good to see Mojo .maybe a overhall and a turbo 4.3 maybe..???...good content and thanks....🔧🔧👍
Appreciate the feedback!
Idk how I found ya but glad I did videos are great love the lowered extended cabs hello from South Dakota 👋
Thanks, I appreciate it!
That was an awesome find! You made it look 100% better with the tires and rims, Thanks for the video on it! 😊👍
Appreciate it!
You really worked the boy's asses off this week good job.
Thanks
After all the repairs you did, that $500-600 truck sure looks real good. You are having great luck this year finding good bodies, ha ha!
Thanks
I like how you used Ned Kelly's motto "Such As Life" Dan loves using it in every episode of DD Speed Shop 😅
What a way to help the last few hours of work that much better. Thank you sir
Any time!
had the same truck paid 400 within 24h of owning it i painted the rims put on a roll pan cowl hood box rails tinted the windows and a set of cooper cobra front and back the next day had 3 offers from 3 diffrent ppl one was for 3500 one for 5000 and 5800 wasent even done installing everything. was an eye opener of the market these obs trucks have. best money makers iv had the pleasure of flipping. think im on 13 now all have more then doubled my initial investment after final sale. so easy to work on there the perfect truck oh and easy to ls swap
Dang, that’s awesome!
Good afternoon from Cape Cod ⛵ That truck looks really fantastic, I haven't seen a rust-free OBS since they were brand new 😂 it's a shame those wheels don't fit cuz they look fabulous. Thanks for the awesome video ✌️🇺🇲
Thanks 👍
I had a 97 Chevy Cheyenne with the 4.3 and a 5-speed. My first new truck. It was a fun truck, when it ran. It always had a miss from new. Multiple dealers wouldn't do anything about it. They'd either lie and tell me they couldn't feel it, or they'd change the plugs and wires and send me on my way. Had a garage look at it, they spent all day on it couldn't find anything wrong, told me they wouldn't charge me if I promised never to bring it back! Traded it with the same miss I bought it with.
Crazy
lowered stock or lifted almost nothing touches how good these trucks look another great vid sir morticus deff a dream truck of mine !
Appreciate the love!
Love the truck! It’s perfect what you did! Yeah you gotto be carefully of those cheap drop parts. I want to buy it!
So what’s your price?
That's a awesome truck. And awesome deal on it . Nice find!
Thanks, glad you like it.
another great score mortske!!! thanks for sharing....You will have to start your own obs yard pretty soon!
I guess that would be a good problem to have!
