Looks like the axe system does pretty good in it. I'm looking to get a Capra kit and putting my 1800kv axe system that was in my trx4 bronco into since it just seemed like it didnt have enough top end in the bronco for me. It almost looks like it will be just perfect to have a 1800 in the Capra with stock gearing.

I totally agree. I think the Holmes team puller 400 13t will be the bees knees in the Capra. I will be pairing it with the Br-xl in my build. Thanks for showing us the axe system in this rig though.
I have a puller 400 13t in my Superlite Axial and its a bit small, may have heat issues with this one. When I do the magnum I'll do an 11 turn version, that should give the crawl and bounce power I want.

Love the video. I just picked up a Capra. Was wondering about battery choices and associated run times. I also looking at going brushless soon.
I usually just run a 1500mah Helios 3S in mine. You can fit a 3700mah Gens Ace and Helios has a better specificly for the Capra now, it’s a 3600mah. Runtime is awesome.
I have same setup with the 11t pinion and it's perfect balance of torque, speed n control.
Don Earls just curious what 11t pinion you used. I just picked up a axe system but I’m not liking the pinion I got. Thanks

Hey I’m pretty new to this RC crawling stuff but am diving right in. I got the Capra RTR and am going through the upgrades and want to get the AXE 540L 2800kv. Few questions. Should I buy the motor/ESC combo first or a new transmitter? Is a new transmitter required for it or can it bind to the stock one? And last, will that fit? The 540 cans will squeeze into the Capra right? With out trimming the link mounting points off? Anyway thanks for all your info you put up brother. Happy trails and keep on truckin’ lol

I’m trying to get mine to fit, but the rod end from the link appears be hit the motor, Ive trimmed the link mount a good amount already

Sweet! I run mine with the Axe 2300kv on 3s... stock gearing too, and I agree, smaller pinion is nice... but the Axe system is still verrrrrrry smooth.... so I haven't changed it. Then again, I've run mine into a rock and flipped it over backward while bashing... so I'm going to leave it as is. lol! It is now dual purpose... crawler and rock racer.
TrailCrawler 203 sounds like with good trigger control the AXE will work great with 3S and stock gearing...

I have a Holmes Puller Pro BL 540S "Stubby" 2200kv and went down to an 11t pinion and it works well. I was thinking of going to a 10t or maybe adding the overdrive you did to the front diff.
Alvin Marin the OD was a waste, rumors are a set of OD portal gears are on the way, at that time it may work really well. As far as the pinion goes 11t is as small as I have been able to fit. Vitavon is working on a new billet trans case that can go to 9t. It won’t be cheap but will be top shelf quality.
@@ExocagedRC Portal gears would be nice. Yeah, I've heard a 10t was possible using button head screws to mount the motor.

Have you had any problems with the slipper clutch slipping?
My Axe 3300 550 motor keeps overheating in trx4. ESC is fine. Motor keeps doing thermal shutdown. No binding in drive line. Stock pinion. Does the 3300 just run too hot due to higher KV's?
J R the bigger 550 Axe motors do run a bit warm as compared to the other ones. If it’s hitting thermal and shutting down that’s an issue. The motor comes with a 12t pinion and should be set in the D hole for proper mesh. Also if you’re crawling in 2nd that can be an issue. Does the truck roll freely? Any driveline bind?
Definitely needs a smaller pinion if u were to keep that combo.
For my heavy scale trucks I tend to go with a basic 4pole brushless around 3000kv but geared down further than normal.
One truck has 2600kv, hpi gear reduction unit, axial transmission, and hd under drive in both axles. Has a super nice low speed. And tons of torque despite being a full steel subzero rc4wd cage and metal wraith axles. Lol

RC Migs Channel depends on the vehicle, some I like them to move faster than others. But 4-link with coil overs.
I have same system and everything but my motor keeps getting really hot, any idea what it is?
If you have a lot of OD in the portals that can cause it. If you’re driving in sandy terrain and other muddy stuff or lots of hills that can do it.
Does anyone know how the axe 1800kv will do in the capra? Im about to install.
Shaun Sanford yeah I haven’t run one in mine yet but awesome torque and control for sure. It will just be loud. Probably go with an 11t pinion or maybe try the stock one. Which esc? SW4?
What is your opinion on a good all around crawler/basher fun rig? Capra or Losi Rock Rey?

@@ExocagedRC Problem is, while I was waiting, my impatience got the best of me and got the Capra. The dig servo burnt up literally 5 minutes in to trying out the rig. Didn't even use the dig and the shocks I got were crap too... 😩

Great vids! I tried a castle 4600kv brushless motor (sensorless) in my Capra....its horrible lol. Too fast!!
lol oh wow!!! yeah that would be a whole lot of too much. I see guys posting about the 3800kv and I just don't see this thing needing that much speed unless they are racing it or bouncing it.

lol I'm going to have to make that a thing. I had the CM Sport 13t in there and it was good for sure but when I do the Magnum I'll go with the 11t version.

@@ExocagedRC After you said that you haven't been able to use a 10T pinion on your Capra, I took mine with the 11T apart to take a look. Was going to extend the motor screw slots and take some material off of the motor side of the motor mount plate to make the 10T work. But, came up with a solution that was sooooooooooo simple. On my Holmes CrawlMaster Expert 540 (16T) there are two sets of screw holes opposite each other on the can. Instead of using two screw holes opposite each other (as conventional wisdom would dictate), I used the two screw holes located to one side (making them furthest from the centerline of the tranny). This made the 10T fit with a proper amount of gear lash when I pushed the motor all the way to hitting the tranny body on the other side of the motor mounting plate. And, if I were to Dremel away a little bit of plastic from the motor side, I am believing that I could even move the motor over enough to fit a 9T pinion. Hope this is understandable. Works great without a lot of effort! Bill

I initially considered the AXE...but, decided against it, primarily for to it's (well-known) poor "slow start" ability.

Jeremy Burris yeah sounds horrible in the video but not bad in person. It also is all steel pinion and spur.
