- Sheffield circular walk of heritage as we follow the River Don and the Sheffield and Tinsley canal. This walk highlights Sheffield South Yorkshire's industrial and historical past as we walk along the Sheffield and Tinsley canal passing old warehouses, breweries and places where history has been made, also passing Tinsley Flight before heading onto the footpath by the River Don.
Onto the city via Meadowhall shopping centre we join the Five Weir's Walk, passing Sheffield steel foundry's and buildings made famous for the production of tools, saws and cutlery. Heading into the city I passed numerous breeds of birds including a heron, kingfisher, redwings, goldfinches and sand martin's, plus an otter and 2 water voles.
As we approach the city we pass some historical buildings including Sheffield's oldest bridge, then back to the canal via the old Victoria Quay as we follow the towpath back to our start point by Sheffield Arena.
This route is 9 miles long and can be shortened and joined at any point quite easily as the river and canal run near each other but I suggest if you can walk it all, do so!
I thoroughly enjoyed this walk, walking with water, historical industry, heritage and wildlife, there are plenty of information boards along the route highlighting the historical locations and places of interest along the way.

Kingfishers are so rare to see. I told my mrs we would be very lucky to see one on our canal boat holiday... first night we sat watching them for an hour lol iv only ever seen flashes of them befor.
Great video. very unique. I hope you have a great day
A little different to my usual walk but glad I found that gem or a circular trail
Great walk for sure...some different looking ducks too...seems like lots to do and lots of history in the area too...thanks for sharing your day and have yourself a great week!
Yes Sheffield has an industrial past that still continues today with its steel, tools and cutlery and with its nature made it a great walk, thanks for watching
nice one Andy...we followed the 5 weirs walk a few weeks back...its a fine city...really enjoyed this....i now have to mention thanks for the mention...
As I stumbled onto the bridge I thought this looks familiar from your vid - a great walk
You might got another mention soon lol
A proper urban walk there Andy. Not really done much exploring around Sheffield so found this really interesting.
A beaut of a walk to follow, we'll worth a visit
Great video, shown off the nice canals and wears of Sheffield! Really enjoyed that, new here and will be checking out more, atb! 👍🏻
Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed the vid
one thing about cities, etc you can usually find a canal or river,
I think most cities are built on a river due to there transportation of materials before roads were built in medieval times and before
Some nice countryside out that way too. We need to get you a drone Andy.
Thought about a drone but if I was a pilot I would of joined the RAF not the Army
@@ExpeditionHiker 😆 if Proc can do it, so can you 😆🤣😂😹
500th sub less goooo
whens the 500 sub special?
I have something up my sleeve for a special, thanks for subbing
great vid andy, them 2 ducks are a product of cross breeding between mallards and ?, ive seen it quite a lot between quite a few different breeds of ducks and geese, seems strange really.
Thanks for enlighenting me on that one, I did see a few on the canal similar colours sizes, and saw a white duck sitting next to one too, thanks for watching
@@ExpeditionHiker this cross breeding never used to happen as far as i know, ive seen white ducks crossed with mallards, white ducks with canadian geese and other variations, really strange, makes you wonder.
Have you thought about a dvd/download on Amazon Andy? You must have a fair bit of original footage by now bro.
Or a Sales pitch to a tv company 🤔...
You can be the next Julia Bradbury lol
