- Another driver's eye (recorded on 21/05/2017) this time we travel on the Sheffield Supertrams from Halfway - Castle Square. This was tram 116 running a blue line route to Malin Bridge but we recorded as far as Castle Square.

I was a student at the University of Sheffield with two babies when the tram lines were first laid. It made a huge difference to the journey. I was up at 6am every day to give me time to go to nursery and get in for my 9am lectures. I might never have graduated without the tram.
I was a student there, 1964-67. By golly, the city's changed!

Can't tell you now mate it's 10 years since I left.
I definitely remember the old announcements. It’s done by a new man now. The old announcer for The Blue Route was called Andy, The Purple Route Man was called Paul and The Yellow Route Woman was calling Sarah.
Another excellent tram ride with a mixture of off-road and combined highway routes. Plus nicely filmed with informative station-stops info and passenger chatter. Loved the driver acknowledging his fellow drivers enroute - dosen't always happen on "other systems" I've travelled on!
Lovely - urban transport as it should be (in my view). Great to see how tidy and litter-free the City and suburbs are.

1:00 "What on Earth, where did that come from?" It's rather amusing that the driver appears to be aware of the text on screen.
I travelled from Halfway to Sheffield Midland railway station on Sunday September 6th 2009. I had walked with a group of people from Dronfield railway station to Eckington, followed by a walk to Renishaw Hall. The final leg of the walk was from Renishaw Hall to Halfway via the Trans-Pennine trail. The tram journey was a really enjoyable journey and one that I remembered for a long, long time, partly because of the downhill journey to the railway station. Thank you so much for showing this journey on RUclips. It brought back some happy memories.

This is reminiscent of the old American interurbans, running through the countryside (what's left of it), along the side of the road in places and on the streets. Wish I could be there to ride it! I notice there isn't much welded track.
My hometown. Actually made this trip on a visit back home. Didn't realise it was that long!!! smooth ride great system!
The blue route by far has the most stops (this is only the SE part of the route)

Lived in Sheffield (Gleadless Town End) 58 / 69 and it was good to see places I used to know even tho I found t difficult yo recognise most

I came here to listen to the old blue route service announcements. The man sounded so kind! They've changed them now.

They changed them cuase the announcements voices broke at city centre and at townend during 2016 - 2017

Our Siemens Supertrams (one on the video) have a max speed of 50 mph, but can easily pass this slightly! 26 years old now these trams. I've got loads of info on them if you're interested?
tram trains can go 80 mph and the that tram can go 50mph

No, if you are stood at the stop the driver will simply just stop

@@JRWilson242 Lol I'm not asking because I intend to do that. When I went on Manchester trams I saw ticket inspectors regularly. So I was wondering if Sheffield trams have just as many inspectors. By the way, are you an inspector yourself?
Buses InsideM25 I’m from Manchester. In Sheffield they have a conductor on every tram so you won’t get away fare dodging. In Manchester, pretty much everyone I know dodges daily. There’s ticket inspectors but not regularly on the far ends of the lines

@@mohibj Yes. Every driver teams up with a conductor. If there is a crew swap, the conductor will swap as well as the driver.

No the trams are not free.
Everyone just jumps in and I don't see any turnstile at the stops. How do you pay for the tickets? Is it like an honor system? Or is paid "through taxes"?

I have travelled on the Midlands Metro and Manchester Metrolink; how does the Sheffield system compare in terms of rout length, passenger numbers, fare costs etc?
