- This is a very detailed overview of a completed Disney Nautilus remote controlled submarine model in 1/35 scale.
If you aren't into the technical overview, have a short attention span, or are more amused by funny cat videos, feel free to skip ahead to the boat in the water at something close to the 20 minute mark.
At the time of upload, this model is available for purchase. Please visit my website at www.nautilusdrydocks.com for all the info, along with lots of information, resources, kits, parts and components for the RC submarine hobby.
UPDATE: This model has been sold. Still lots of great info in the video on building up a boat, though. Don't miss it!
Thanks for watching!

So impressive for sure. I always wondered if they used a radio controlled Nautilus model for the underwater scenes in the movie, or if that would have been even possible back then. The underwater model scenes back in the 1950s were incredible for their time.
I've always loved the design. It was steampunk before that was even a word.
The Victorian age was steampunk before that was a word.
Easily the most beautiful R/C submarine I've ever seen!!! Thanks so much for taking the time to share this with us!!!
I'm fascinated by your work. Never seen anything like it. Great results.
Watching the model almost reminds me of the movie as a kid..One of my favorites Disney classics. Great detail.
Just "liked" the old video! Now I found this! So great you saved this beautiful boat! Love the artistry and engineering that you put into this.
AN ABSOLUTE WORK OF ART MY FRIEND !!!!
I was the lead reactor instrumentation and control technician from Newport News Shipyard (NNSY) to the USS Los Angeles, SSN - 688 during its construction. Capt. Christensen was my next door neighbor. When I went to a vacation at Disney World, I bought a postcard of this Nautilus and sent it to "Capt Christensen, c/o NNSY, USS Los Angeles". Told him that this was to be the final hull configuration of his Super Fast / Super Quiet boat. When this picture of a lumpy submarine showed up, they actually did not believe me!! He called me a name when I got back to work!! Fun times.
Thank God you saved it from being chopped up! Beautiful magnificent boat in and out of water. HOOAH!
I've loved that boat ever since I saw the film in the 1954, My mother bought me the Disney book for Christmas, with photographs from the original film.... alas, long gone...Beautiful model of this classic movie submarine. No other movie submarine comes close to this one...
I saw it in a theater when the film was released. I was a kid, so I didn't comprehend the full story until I saw it again when I was older, but it's always been my favorite Disney film. Love the boat, too, but there's no way it would have survived that deep dive when it was hit by the warship.

My favorite movie, your work is absolutely amazing.
Now I have to go watch the movie again! 😊
What a marvelous beauty! Thanks a lot for sharing your video!
Beautiful boat Bob. I cant believe that someone would want to chop up this vessel. Thank God you rescued it. Great performance too.
beautifully built RC model; just so grand! thank you! you did just a great great job!
I've 3-D printed a few display models for people but this is awesome to see a working RC model .
Fantastic video Bob! Love all your work with RC subs especially the Nautilus. Beautiful craftsmanship of the best sub ever!!
GORGEOUS!! Awesome job on her!
Nautilus, the best of all. Congratulations Bob!
It's the best one that I can seen.
A great model of a beautiful design. Looks amazing.
That is amazing!!!
The Nautilus is def the best sub design ever made
Wonderful model, versatile... detailed & functional... wonderful music too....
Absolutely beautiful !
Absolutely beautiful as I loved the one at Disney world in Orlando,Florida!,every time I see it I always believed it was real.
Thanks for sharing your model as its a true vessel.
I am glad I am not the only one that thought it was real.
I loved that movie. This is the coolest submarine ever!
This is the greatest thing ever! Wonderful job on this! Wow!
That's awesome! Absolutely beautiful work Bob!
Lovely model there Captain Nemo!
Very nice! Just like the one from the movies! Fantastic job!
Really terrific working model. The Nautilus captured my young imagination when I first saw the movie at the theater, the opening sequence was a clincher and your model certainly is the spitting image of it. I'd love to see her moving underwater with a realistic background to match your model's beautiful silhouette. Congratulations and thanks for sharing.
So cool, great build watched it several times
Excellent Work, love detailed work that just works.
Amazing! It was such a fabulously built sub, Bob. I wish there was a boat that the sub with its serrated front end could attack like in the movie
magnificent model as always!
I have always wanted to build that model. That's awesome!!
Captain Nemo would be proud.
What an amazing recreation, hats off to you sir!
Very cool, Capt., Nemo
EXCELLENT, AND FANTASTIC, BOB MARTIN!
Greatest sub ever envisioned, even with its flawed diving planes. Now build the SEAVIEW!!!!
Such a cool looking submarine. It looks like some sort of prehistoric fish absolutely
WOW! WOW! WOW! EXCEPTIONAL MACHINE LOOKS A FINE TOUCH OF VICTORIAN AND ART NOUVEAU IN A EXTRAORDINARY TECHNOLOGICAL PIECE!
Wicked cool, well done, sir. I especially liked the run with nothing but the alligator eyes above the surface, just like the movie!
that was so cool , thanks for showing it.
a marvelous rc submarine. congratulations!
Love that boat!!
Really want to build my own sub, watching your videos is giving me some good ideas!
This is one model you should keep and let it represent your business.. Well Done!!!
Fantastic attention to detail.
Congrats... excellent piece of art...
Spectacular model and awesome video. Made my night!👍 Thanks! Mike
Awesome, friend. Very cool!
Excellent. Back when vans were cool I wanted to outfit one on the nautilus theme with fiberglass riveted walls, bulkheads, head, galley, large portal, periscope etc
I opted for 1/4" plywood + shag carpet.
Oh well.
Love this ship!!!
A work of art!
Speaking as a former "bubblehead " the Nautilus is the coolest RC boat I have ever seen. I'm a RC car guy10 so far. Nice job 👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
Fantastic hobbybuild taken allmost to perfection, spending time this way one must admire.
A work of art.
amazing work
Now that is the coolest model submarine ive ever seen usualy its all WWI WWII stuff but that is cool 😁👍plus i loved that movie pure adventure !!!
Twenty thousand miles under the sea, Captain Nemo's Nautilus submarine!
Leagues, not miles, but I love your enthusiasm!
more like 20 thousand dollars for how much you need to buy this.
I award you the best RC creator awards!
Wow fantastic boats diving
That’s beautiful
Bob this is an AMAZING boat! Great engineering!
Figures everything way over priced or not available
Nice work
'Never taken out of the box' Is craziness to me also Bob! Not only that, but to somehow have a bunch of students get their hands on it and want to send it to the scrap yard is Ludacris!!!!
I loved that you took footage under water but it would have been cool to have a close up of it while under water!
Outstanding!
Smiles all around
Fantastic !!
Wow, that is just beautiful and it performs so amazingly well. Now you just need some wooden hull warships to ram below the waterline and sink with it.
That’s a very pretty boat
what is the price of that glorious machine you've said you'll sell it is there a waiting list for it? or will it go to the top offer?
Beautiful
Fantastic !!!!
Sorry to be offtopic but does any of you know a method to get back into an Instagram account?
I somehow lost the password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Eric Brendan instablaster :)
@Santana Malcolm thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out now.
I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Santana Malcolm it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my account!
@Eric Brendan Happy to help =)
What about the Ulysses from Atlantis the lost empire? That thing looked awsome
vous m'avez fait rêver...
That might be the coolest thing ever built by a human.
Megalike! Respect!
I love it!! That is one of my all time favorite submarines as well (the Seaview is another). Have you ever considered making a similar in size scale model of the Proteus from Fantastic Voyage? That would be awesome! Keep up the great work. BTW yes I gave this video a thumbs up and subscribed to your channel. :)
nice job
wonderful !
I had one that was used in a movie in San Diego but it was dry inside and forward motion made it dive or surface.. but it had lights all over it and looked really cool under water at night. It had hand done rivets like your and was super detailed with weather etc.
How does it pump air back in to surface? Very awesome build.
Just came across your build, while surfing RUclips. It brought back memories of seeing my first r/c subs at hobby shows as a rugrat, with my dad. While I have built many r/c cars, trucks tanks, ships and boats, I’ve never built a submarine. After watching the Nautilus in action, I might have a new project to plan for. How far can you dive an r/c sub and still maintain control?
Awsome!!!
very cool
NICE!!
Yes, this model was in a paper. I think I build it. Somewhere.😂
Very, very cool! This sub needs more likest basement.
Would be cool to mount a insta go in the wheel house lower deck and get some really great underwater shots
Wish I knew about you and these 9 years ago. But I really want to do my own surfacing experiments closer to what very old sunken ships sport.....
Awesome Fantastic ❣️
Did you build an Alvin type submarine? I would like to see one with an inboard camera and a lot of lighting. :)
I remember reading long ago how Picard solved the loss of power problem on the Trieste. He used magnetic valves on the ballast nozzles which were filled with iron pellets. Too complicated of course but recovery after power drainage is possible if a servo is used to maintain tension on the emergency buoyancy release.
Very cool...the only thing missing is a 1/35 scale Capt. Nemo that looks suspiciously like James Mason.
Love to see it going in the sea at night
Sees thumbnail: Wow.
Watches Video: WOOOOOOWWW!
LIKE impressive GOOD JOB
I would like to see you build the one from the league of extraordinary gentlemen.
I have one started already! I think I previewed it during one of my RUclips Live videos a while back. It's on the shelf right now as I'm swamped with other work, but it will run!

Awesome...
It worked oot well - what did you offer these kids?
