Marvellous. What a wonderful nostalgia kick. I was 12 years old when Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea appeared on TV in 1964. I may be showing my age at 70 but the little flying sub still looks futuristic. I'd love to see how the onboard camera performed - especially the encounter with the fearsome, giant sea dog and the escape into the deep. Great model.
I was the same age as you then and I had many of the same joys of watching until the storylines got too sci=fi. I remember the sea weed monsters. Richard Basehart and David Hedison. That and Time Tunnel.
Always thought the Seaview was the best looking sub ever. And always remember hoping each episode of Voyage To The Bottom of The Sea would have the flying sub in it. You can't get much cooler than both subs. The fact that the scaled model you have works so well is a credit to the designers. Of course, not forgetting Stingray. Yet another really cool sub.
Really a great sight to see the flying sub actually perform in the water. It's really interesting that the design does work, but the filming miniatures had to be able to function in the water even if they were controlled/propelled by a Lydecker wire control rig. Thanks for a nice build and tribute to a fondly remembered series😀👍👍
Fantastic! I can only hope you're presently working on the full-size, operational model, that can also fly at jet speeds, and of course, comfortable seats for a pilot and co-pilot. 🙂 The Flying Sub, aka FS1, was such a cool design. It still looks cool today. The design reminds me of those amazing sci-fi covers on the Tom Swift books.
Awesome! Now all you need to do is build a 1/32 scale Seaview and an electrical magnetic docking system and sally fort! Oh and make the Flying Sub Fly! Just kidding on the last part but on the first part, oh wow would that be great! This was truly great! Thank you!
I second you on the thought that it would be great if he had a 1/32nd scale Seaview and could do the docking/undocking sequence. I suspect that he would need to upgrade to an Olympic-sized pool.
Good to see The design is fairly hydrodynamic. Such an iconic vehicle. I was lucky enough to meet David Hedison on 3 occasions here in the UK. Real nice bloke who seemed to enjoy interacting with his fans.
You did what I wanted to do 50 years ago. I had a toy model of the flying sub and one day tossed it in my pool . I was amazed at how it easily glided through the pool . I thought man if I could have the proper electronics installed in this, this would make one cool toy. Congrats on letting me see this wild idea come to life.
Gotta love Irwin Allan. A master of stock footage and putting all kinds of gizmos into places they couldn't possibly go. I built the Seaview model twice, but the flying sub was always my favorite.
As a kid I loved this Show with these Subs, on Sunday Morning I got up early to watch this every Week along with Land Of The Lost, the 3 Stooges, and The Little Rascals. I think back in the late 70's and early 80's this show was a older rerun but I still loved it and was my Fav. Thanks for the trip down memory lane 👍
As one of those 'long in the tooth' guys I built this model as a kid it was one of my favorites, along with the Enterprise, The land of the Giants ship and others, love that you took it those extra steps to make a 'sub' out of it, keep up the good work.
That's awesome!! I loved "Voyage..." & had a couple of flying sub models when I was a kid. They eventually broke because I played with them all the time instead of leaving them on their displays. LOL I also loved the Seaview as well as another vehicle from an Irwin Allen show, the Jupiter 2 from Lost in Space. Totally dig the POV from the inside! Dude you really did a fantastic job. Bravo.
Thanks for sharing your build. This brought my childhood to life. I can remember rushing home from school to finish my homework and watch Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. The FS-1 was my favorite part of the show.
That was the coolest object shown on TV. The way it flew into the water was hilarious. My dad said the pilot's eyeballs would bounce off the windshield before snapping back into his head. You have an awesome collection of model submarines. Cartel guys have ten million dollars for you if you can make a full sized one.
That flying sub is remarkable.very cool.guess what?I love that show.i used to watch it everyday.i had the DVD's.i just recently constructed a two foot wide identical, painted yellow of course, cardboard model that actually flys like a glider when you toss it in the air.then I added a very small motorized propeller with a tiny radio control system and I attached with Velcro strips two long skinny empty water bottles as pontoons to support it on the water and it can switch to water use,a surface vehicle.it works both ways.i got inspired by your model.
What great fun that series was as a small kid and again as an adult when I watched the whole series again. Really cool build. Now, if you can get that thing to actually emerge from the water and take off into the blue ...
What an excellent looking model and very well executed. If Irwin Allen was alive to see this he would be very pleased. One can only wonder why this beautiful shape was never followed for some ROVs.
I have an unbuilt model in the closet. Now I know what I might try with it. All you need now is the scale Sea View docking bay to launch and return. Then we'll have to make it fly, too! Great project. Nice job.
Thank you for this - it showed up randomly and I watched it from start-to-finish, fascinated at this blast from the past. Great work - it looks beautiful and I'll bet it's almost as sophisticated a construct as the model they used for the TV show! I enjoyed seeing your answers to each of the questions that engineering puzzle posed. I will watch for more of your videos after this!
As usual, a splendid job making this VTTBOTS Flying Sub model a functional craft. I was also gonzo to see that you have a Jaws Orca (Quint vessel) and Bruce the shark on the shelf. Amazing work sir.
I would love to do a Sub, I just don't have local access to free-water. Did one when I was younger but my Uncle sank it. Went to planes and cars after that. Beautiful Subs.
Admiral Nelson, designer of Seaview and FS-1 would be proud. Good work. I second Neubert500's comment that you should now build a 1/32nd scale Seaview with ventral hangar to perform the launch/recovery sequence.
Wow. This is pretty amazing. If someone actually brought out an actual RC version of this I'm guessing that it would do well with the sci fi enthusiasts out there. I'm more into RC tank's myself but this would be something that I would look at.
Very Nice. As a teenager had a fly by wire (pre-RC) model of this flying sub using a small single piston gasoline powered motor. But not one for use in water....
Of all of your builds, I love the deeper submersibles best. Subs with lights and cameras are awesome. With all of the smaller HD cameras on the market that aren't much bigger than the lens itself, I'm somewhat surprised you went so "large." Great build! If you do run it at night, please post the footage.
That is so awesome!!!! And you don't have to be of a certain age to recognize the Flying Sub cause you got streaming reruns!!! LOL Awesome work!!! Loved it!
Hi Bob, thanks for the video. Unfortunately I can't not get the chills seeing lipo batteries in water. Do you have a link to a video that shows the best way to seal lipos and any precautions to take into consideration? thank you
Very nice, I`m flying RC Planes. Catalina and my nice Albatross... It was hard to setup all controlls, Motor and Rudder mixing and so on. But I think, one Stick for throttle (mix with rudder) and 2 Servos (mix) to controll pitch AND roll. Full power and fly like an eagle under water 🙂 Excuse my bad english.

@debbiemilka2251 Oh yes, Time Tunnel was another enjoyable series.
That's amazing. I'd bet the producers of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea would be proud.

Now you got to make one that flys
SEAVIEW,...THE GREATEST SUB OF ALL TIME!!! OH ..YEAH!!!
@@erichayes2890 Too right.
I see to remember it crashed or had something go wrong every time they took it out.
@@jamesberdine8574 On the show do you mean?
Bloody marvelous...I could almost hear Richard Basehart's voice . Thank you
Really a great sight to see the flying sub actually perform in the water.

Awesome! I loved Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea growing up. That's the best looking and functioning fly sub I've seen yet. Congratulations!
The Seaview was the coolest looking sub and the Flying sub was awesome

What a great job! Takes me back to being a kid and watching the re-runs in the early 70’s!
Good to see The design is fairly hydrodynamic. Such an iconic vehicle. I was lucky enough to meet David Hedison on 3 occasions here in the UK. Real nice bloke who seemed to enjoy interacting with his fans.
Now there's a trip down memory lane, watched this series religiously back in the day. Nice replica!
But, does it fly?😉
Great job, it is beautifully done!
I liked the detail of the dog monster.
Give them time.
Cleverly done, gentlemen.

That is awesome. I watched the show as a kid. I always thought submarines made that distinctive multi-ping sonar sound. Great to see this!
real submarines are blind underwater
Gotta love Irwin Allan. A master of stock footage and putting all kinds of gizmos into places they couldn't possibly go.

Looks good Bob! I'm working on my own flying sub conversion now, I'll post it when its done!
did you finish
As one of those 'long in the tooth' guys I built this model as a kid it was one of my favorites, along with the Enterprise, The land of the Giants ship and others, love that you took it those extra steps to make a 'sub' out of it, keep up the good work.
Bob absolutely the best in the Nautilus absolutely love it.

Irwin Allen was a creative genius back in the 60’s and his designs are absolute sci fi classic. Very enjoyable upload thanks
Thanks for sharing your build. This brought my childhood to life. I can remember rushing home from school to finish my homework and watch Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. The FS-1 was my favorite part of the show.
I remember this vessel fondly...built the kit when I was knee high and I enjoyed the show as well! Thxs for sharing cheers!
That is so cool brought back some fond memories

Very cool. One of the best vehicle designs in American TV history.
This may be the coolest thing I've ever seen in my entire life! Well done. Awesome!
Very cool! I used to run home from school to watch that show! Thanks for the memory!! Awesome
Voyage to the bottom of the sea!! Great!! All you needed is a couple of under sea monsters when you launch the Seaview flying sub for effect
Nice job.
But can it fly!? Can it burst out of a studio pool like a ufo taking flight!? Great work! Brought back memories.
Thank you for this - it showed up randomly and I watched it from start-to-finish, fascinated at this blast from the past. Appreciate the tribute to a childhood favorite. Many thanks!
Great to look at - and see operating underwater. (And that camera, too!)
Next step: Mark II - a Flying Sub!
As usual, a splendid job making this VTTBOTS Flying Sub model a functional craft. I was also gonzo to see that you have a Jaws Orca (Quint vessel) and Bruce the shark on the shelf. Amazing work sir.
I just finished up a video overview of ORCA. You can view it here: ruclips.net/video/POOwXZ9qBkA/видео.html
Looks Good all you need now is the Sub to launch From
I loved watching Voyage to the Bottom of the sea
That is so freakin awesome, I grew up watching this show and to now see a working version of the flying sub is just fantastic! 👍👍👍😎

Excellent job Bob.....
Absolutely brilliant! Loved this as a kid. Now u gotta make it fly as well haha! Great job, thanks! :)
It needs to leave a bubble trail.....
Next, you need to build the Anderson Stingray....
Full-size of course....
Well done!
Beautifully elegant construction.
Very, very cool! Love this!
Nicely done!
Awesome! What great memories.

This camera configuration was best for this application, and for $30, the value could not be beat.
@@RCSubGuy can't argue that
Way cool, now I want to watch the show again😎👍🏻
Now you must get it to get airborne. Fantastic job!
How super cool is that. 👍👍👍
Way cool! Great job!
Now that, is super cool. Excellent work.
Awesome work - looks outstanding!
That was a great series 🙂👍
That is so freaking cool!
That is so awesome!!!! And you don't have to be of a certain age to recognize the Flying Sub cause you got streaming reruns!!! LOL Awesome work!!! Loved it!
Man, that is TOO cool!
A superb job😊😊😊😊😊
I love the shot of the dog's paws.
Wonderful, the flying sub was much better than the mini sub it replaced.
amazing, perfect design,like movie
Have you thought about offering a complete set of parts including the kit. I for one would be very interested. Thanks.
Absolutely fantastic 👏
That was AWESOME... I've always wished someone would build one. But until then this will do quite nicely.
Great job Sr., I wish I could make money doing this as my job and not just a hobby. You and your family are very lucky. Take care, Mike
Outstanding
Great model that Admiral Nelson would be proud of!
That is so cool!
That's cool Bob!
That was awesome
60 years from show to RC isn't bad. Now all we need is to head for the reality.
Love it! 😍
Good use for the old RC transmitter \ receiver. The low frequency must get better pentration under water.
Eloquent conversion sir!
Very cool and works well now we just need someone with a big pocket to build a full sized one 😀 👍
Thanks for making this video buddy.
Hi Bob, thanks for the video. Unfortunately I can't not get the chills seeing lipo batteries in water. Do you have a link to a video that shows the best way to seal lipos and any precautions to take into consideration? thank you
That's very cool. I wonder if Cousteau's Saucer would drive and dive in a similar fashion.....
One of My favourite TV shows when I was a kid .
When it said fully functional, iiiiii thought it would come out of the water and fly. Like in the show!😆👍🏼
Superb!
Very nice, I`m flying RC Planes. Catalina and my nice Albatross... It was hard to setup all controlls, Motor and Rudder mixing and so on. Niiiiice. Watch out for the giant squid, though 🤣
Nice to see another friendly RC submarine guY. I would like to build me that flying saucer.
Always thought that the Seaview and the flying sub was way ahead of its time plus they were bad ass on top of that
