you all prolly dont care but does someone know a method to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost my login password. I love any tricks you can give me!
I was worried our ears were gonna be in for a hard time at the beginning but it all came good once you got into the car. Very expensive but then so are Aston Martins etc. This conversion looks like fantastic fun!
That is the best build that I have seen this year, as your friend said he didn't like Land Rovers even though he grew up with them, never thought that I would say "that is a Land Rover that I would like to own".
I can’t get an R/C off roader out of my head with its sound. Awesome piece of kit with astounding scenery. Moggy is right on our level. Brilliant. I like the fact it’s on regen all the way back down.
And you won't be in the workshop all the time. This car would really do for me, at least as a weekender! Love the video and I can't wait to see you test Moggy's Defender when it's ready. Cheers
The vehicle is amazing but above all I loved your camaraderie. No testosterone BS, no one upmanship, just good content and a good friendship on display. 👍
Fantastic machine and the drivers are not bad too!!! It just shows you the way forward is electric, science fiction films of the past showed the future this way. You and Moggy had a brilliant time with the “Beast” . Mountain rescue vehicles could utilise this and perhaps get nearer for their rescuing purposes, make enough of them and cost should drop. Pete, another really good video👍👍👍
Great rig guys, could you do this as a dual or triple motor version to extend the range between charges? That way it would be the ultimate overlander, especially if you can recharge it with solar while travelling.
WOW!!! what a fantastic beast, if i had the cash i would buy one without a blink of an eye. If i ever win the lottery i will be banging on Moggy's door! Great content as usual.
I love your vehicle but would really love to see you in Moab, Utah, USA. See what it can really do, compete with the Jeeps and custom vehicles known for the area.
So excited for the future of classic car EV conversions! It's going to be a mega industry over the next decade and for a long time after with ever advancing tech and efficiencies! 😍
The smiles and laughter said it all. What an amazing creation! The engineering quality is sublime. And the engineering innovation is just off the scale. It could literally pull tree stumps out. 👏🏻👏🏻 Would like to see more of the build process for another of Moggy’s Land Rover or Range Rover conversions, if there is any possibility of that in a future video, please (pretty please!) Ped? All the best from up here on the Wirral.
Well I would say an improvement on the LR classic , but 90k on top of a good donor vehicle wow , 👍👍👍. I will start saving £££ now. See moggy in 3010 lol
My Peugeot 4007 with its Grabber tyres can handle that terrain, but not that effortlessly. And it weighs a lot less. This is an amazing vehicle. Great fun.
Good work on the EV conversion and interior but the off roading was pretty tame especially considering the limited slip diffs. The descents looked a bit "runaway", steeper longer descents over rougher ground would be more interesting to see if the regen braking controls the descent speed in comparison to a low range gearbox. What about deep water and mud!
The camera made it look much more tame than it was but ultimately this is a customer vehicle under final shake down testing. Deep water not a problem. Totally sealed drive train so I’m theory it could drive under water 😬
This is an awesome off-road monster, but just to keep things in perspective, I have to say, growing up in the country in rural Canada, I took my Toyota Corolla hatchback offroad on terrain as rough and as steep as this, every weekend in summers for bush parties. I'd still love a Land Rover electric conversion, but that's more a matter of taste and style than anything else. The only difference is the Land Rover can carry far more cargo and it won't get stuck in the mud as easily.
Much better moving these monsters without local emissions equivalent to a train of the 1900s But I say that 99% of SUV buyers never ever "need" any off road capability (and many SUVs have none anyway). I live partially in the mountains in the North of the Czech Republic (other time in Prague) and people are not rich there. 95% drive Skoda Fabia etc right into the thick of it without probs. the other 5% have a Jimny. :) The big SUVs are more for people how want or need to show off esp when driving their kids to school 2km through Prague. You should see the row of huge expensive SUVs in front of schools in the morning not able to park properly thus blocking the street and releasing often sadly overweighed kids - who would benefit from walking or biking. 😂
One of the best videos I've watched in ages! Wish electric classic cars all the success they can get. Can't help but wonder about converting my Series 1 to electric! Love it!
What a great conversion, Moggy knows his stuff and it's such an obvious fit, heaps of instant torque and extremely controllable which is just what's needed for a real Defender. Some folk might say that the price is a bit on the steep side for a 6+ year old Land Rover, but from what was shown in this video, the conversion is an overall custom package and it's almost a new vehicle. Given that the "new Defender" that Land Rover have just put out starts at around £60k with all the extra running costs of fuel and maintenance it'll need and no character, looking like all the other ponies that Land Rover now produce, then this classic makes a lot more financial sense. There are a couple of questions that didn't get broached in the video, battery consumption figures is one, it's ok when your back garden is the Welsh hills etc and you haven't got a fair drive to go and play. Another one is water ingress into the electrics, how will it fair crossing a stream or river with the level up around the door bottoms, H2O and high voltage electrics don't make good bed-fellows as many a flooded Tesla owner will attest and Rich Rebuilds too. Moggy said that his personal build was going to be fairly basic and lightweight but never elaborated whether that was for straight line speed or off road ability, I hope not the speed as from personal experience old "Landies" get quite jittery above certain MPH. But overall great video, big grin and certainly a beast build.
Fantastic video Pete and an awesome build Moggy. It made me think for a minute that it would be cool to convert my Puma Defender but then I remembered the significant cost, the poor range (not a great issue for a Landy I guess as we tend not to do long journeys in them), the terrible charging infrastructure and the fact that doing it purely for green reasons is a waste of time as the UK contributes so little to the worlds CO2 output (if we went zero tomorrow China and India would wipe out the saving in about 2 months just from their increasing output). Having said all that Moggy i wish you lots of success and hope your business continues to do well. If I win the Lottery I will buy another Landy and send it to you for a full refurb and EV conversion without hesitation. You are a great example of the British entrepreneur!! 😎😎😎
Sorry guys. I had actually bought new mics to try and improve audio. First time using them and not quite on the right settings. I think they call it Sod’s law. At the end of the day I am a RUclipsr not a sound guy. Every day is a school day 😬
Congratulations Moggy whith this Tesla build you have succeeded in fixing the oil leak's on a land rover defender, well done. Keep up the good work ! Regards from South Africa...
Really nice build. I was impressed by the off road driving, even if it was rather short. How does it handle larger rocks, logs and slow creeping? I mean no clutch , will it all be throttle control rather then clutch control?
@@PetrolPed With all the torque and HP on tap, do you need to program a special off road throttle ramp up? I mean to allow for say more throttle/pedal movement at speed less then x mph? If you ever driven a twitchy hi powered ebike/motorcycle maybe this makes more sense.
It won't handle larger rocks/logs due to axle strenght. Heavy duty Defender axle shafts and gearsets (ashcrofts) will break easily with half the power and smaller tyres. With the instant torque of the electric engine at any rpm, the defender axle wouldn't last. Defenders work great with low gearing, big tyres and low power. As soon as you start tuning the engine, things go sideways. That's why there are soo many running nissan patrol axles. Also, you don't have to worry about an Internal combustion engine defender stalling, if it's built right. If the gearing is correct, it won't stall in 1st gear low range.
Simple answer to that. No, it’s not a Tesla even thought it uses a Tesla motor and battery pack. Also this particular conversion only does AC charging 👍
Considering they are literally in the Wind Farm. Would not be difficult to tap a line of that system and put it into a 200kwh battery pack. Then DC Fast Charger to vehicles.
Awesome, want one, just need a lottery win😂 Unbelievable traction with no effort, pity you couldn’t just plug into a wind turbine up on the top😂 Moggy’s engineering skills know no limits. 👍👍👍
Great build.. best use for electric conversion vehicles and stops the greenies holding all the cards in the pub complaining about this 4x4. Quiet and ‘green’ 👍
Please change this crappy headlights. I've had exactly the same and they are really cheap China shit and although they have a "E7" sign on them they are not really E7 compliant. The rest of the car is absolutely amazing, top work mate!!
Don't tell my boss but had to watch this ASAP so skiving off. Great Landy and top notch videoing Pete. Shame I'll have to wait many years before this conversion becomes affordable for me. Be good to see how Moggy packages the batteries in the 90 as that's what mine is.
Ironically I was using a brand new mic set up for the first time to try and do just that. Didn’t quite have the settings right. Also it was a very windy day which made things tricky 😬
Please note this video was shot on private property and the land owners permission was given. In fact he is a good friend of Moggy 👍
