Now we bet this wasn’t something you expected to see on our channel… Mat’s got his hands on a classic & a 2010 Land Rover Defender, but they’ve been converted to EVs!
Hiding under the skin of these off-roading legends, you won’t find any old petrol or diesel motors… You’ll find Tesla motors and batteries!
Now of course, rare and unique cars like this won’t come cheap! The classic Defender will set you back £125,000, while the 2010 edition costs £150,000! But to be fair, it does have a whole load of options added, such as the roof rack and a winch.
The question is - are they worth it? Sure it’s great to know you’re being more eco-friendly off-road, but are they really worth six figures?! You’ll have to stick with Mat to find out!

@@sebastianochs7714 remember, no launch control, no shifting, shit tyres. Most cars need 100% perfect conditions (tyres, temperatures, dry, LC) to get their 0-60 time.

Defenders are already expensive and EV conversions are Hella expensive, so put the two together and yeah...
@@straightbusta2609 It is expensive but it is also so very cool. If you can afford something like a fast AMG Merc, this will be much less luxurious but definitely far more unique.

@@coolmonkey619 £90k but that's including the Tesla Model S 100D gubbins which is probably £40k+ on it's own. They do offer cheaper conversions though, I remember prices starting from around £35k.Won't be as quick though.

This is some serious conversion, not some botched job, love how the classic shape and the classic characteristics are kept. The only thing I didn't like are the front seats on the newer Defender. Rest of the car is amazingly well done

It’s got a single motor sent to all four wheels. The P100D and Plaid have two motors, 1 for each axel. So quite literally twice the power!

These are so cool. I never really thought about it before, but electrifying old cars is actually a great way to revitalize and future-proof them. I imagine these will be extremely reliable for years to come.

An enjoyable video. In the past I ran an assortment of Land Rover series 2 and 2A. Great vehicles.
The model depicted by you as the inspiration for the little, round mirrors, is in fact a Series 1. I have had the pleasure of driving a series 1 with the 1.6 litre petrol engine. It ran like a sewing machine. Beautiful.
Off roading not my sort of thing but I love my SLK and when having an EV is the only sensible option I'd love it converted but I suspect it will never be a feasible thing to do without a lottery win (and I don't do the lottery).
Should be a mode that limits the power by 75% so that you dont speed off.
Edit: Nevermind, Doris has it.
