We are about to get hit with the blizzard and a dangerous wind chill. I work at Michaels, and I’m scheduled for work December 22, 23, 24, 26, and 28. Please be nice to retail workers!
Safe journeys and try to keep warm. I sympathise as I'm a retail manager in a gift and chocolate shop in England. It's such hard work at this time of year. Keep going, you are doing a great job 👏
It is imperative to dress for the weather, even if you are driving.
the googly eyes on your sticker was HILARIOUS! Your laugh and sense of humor is infectious. I loved hearing you talk about "The Valkyries' Loom" it sounds so interesting I've added it to my to-be-read list for 2023!
I love your whole vibe and how you're always finding something positive in life. Your videos always bring me a little spark of joy.
I was so excited when I even heard Waltz of the Flowers playing in the background before you even mentioned the ballet! This was my first year of ballet and my first time being in the nutcracker this past weekend. It was the best! I was bringing my knitting projects to work on during long rehearsals while I wasn't dancing, and I even taught a new friend how to knit because she was so interested in what I was doing. Knitting/Ballet for life!
I love the nutcracker. I have had the opportunity to dance with my ballet studio in the nutcracker 3 times now. It's so much fun. We put on the production for our small community every couple of years.
I love this combination of wood and metal in this wheel. Looks so robust and stylish, its timeless. And those sunset colours seem really cozy!
My mom had a cookie tin, and it was filled with leftover buttons from all the clothes she made us. That box is now mine, and I have kept up the tradition. It’s now filled with her buttons and the leftover buttons from the clothes I made for my children. My daughter sews, so it will be passed along to her.
I'm costume mistress for a small ballet company, and having just finished up our production of the Nutcracker for this season, I'm completely exhausted -- so my first reaction to hearing the Nutcracker music is -- oh no! But then you spoke about the magic of the ballet, and how much you loved it, and you reminded me that although it drives me crazy, I love it too, and it is memories like yours that make my work all worthwhile. Thank you very sincerely. (and now that Nutcracker is over for the season I can hope to get back to spinning again myself...)
❤❤❤
I’m up in Vancouver, BC and we have has 10 inches of snow, it is super unusual for us and the city virtually closes down when this happens. Thanks for the great videos, I’ve learned a lot and you’ve inspired my spinning journey!
I can't believe Rafi is still a thing! My kids are almost thirty now and they grew up with Rafi. I remember just how lovely it was to hear children's music that was not like fingernails on a chalkboard lol
It's always interesting to me when you talk about the importance of studying and preserving women's work.
Edit: No blizzard in Texas, but we are not prepared for the extreme cold. I hope the power grid survives and over 200 people don't die in the cold this time. On a personal note, I don't want my pipes to freeze and burst. Our homes aren't built to withstand freezing temperatures.
I'm right there with you.
Two February's ago my pipes froze and I don't want to go through that again this week. We're told it's going to get down into the teens. None of the pipes from the water/pump house are deeper than 10".
Googly eyes are my favourite form of stress relief. Hint: using different sized googly eyes doubles the silliness...
Where I was for Xmas we just got a foot of snow over 24h, no big deal. We did have to cut our stay a bit short though to come home and deal with the snow then rain then more snow that fell at home... then another snowstorm... yay, winter
I am so excited about that book, thank you! I loved the targhee; I think it does look like fire, and those warm colors just spoke to me. When my daughter was younger, she was in ballet, and we had a fifth season every year: Nutcracker season. Practices, music, and I did costume alterations. It took over our life. Now when we listen to the music, it brings back so many memories.
When I played violin in the symphony we would do nutcracker and it is one of my favorite tunes. And yes the ballet is so fun. They do it here every year in December. I have heard raffi and love him.
I love the Nutcracker Ballet so very much. I grew up going to see it as a child and it continues to make me happy
Northwest of Germany, we have loads of rain. Last week was freezing, which I prefer anytime over rain, at least in Winter.
No matter whether rain or snow, I just love to watch you spinning next to the fireplace! So it is good weather for watching Vlogmas, for spinning, reading, listening to stories…
Your Philippe reminds me of my dream wheel: Kromski Symphony. It also has a big diameter wheel.
Yep…going to be cold and snowy here…cold wind chill!!! Definitely time to stay in by the fire with crafts and books. :)
Something about the huge drive wheel makes the scene by the fire look so cozy 🔥
Yes it’s sunny and warm here at the moment. Should be a hot day for Christmas too 😊
well, here it is summer but it's raining heavily. I love how the colors came out!
Eve, what a lovely Tee shirt with puffy sleeves, congratulations ! The color of that fiber is my favorite so far, flames !!!
I am in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, we had about 30 cm of snow during the past week, but there might be freezing rain or snow Friday, I would prefer sonw for sure, but we do not choose do we ? Wish you all a white Christmas, except for those in Southern hemisphere. 😉 ⛄ 🎄
I absolutely adore the finished yarn in this one! It reminds me of marigolds and sunflowers.
Even here in Florida, we will see temps in the teens this weekend. Brrr... I love the Nutcracker! I'm also a huge fan of the Charlie Brown Christmas music, but my favorite Christmas song is You're a Mean one, Mr. Grinch. :) It brightens my day for some reason.
you are way too excited for those googly eyes. it's adorable!
i played cello and went to see the nutcracker ewvery year at christmas too. ahhhh childhood memories
The googlie eyes sent me today ahahaha I totally needed that laugh today! It isn't blizzarding where I am, but it is INCREDIBLY cold (-45 celsius with windchill). I'm grateful for so many cozy knits
A CPW named Philipe AND Raffi! Whooo hooo! Us Canucks are delighted at the honourable highlights. 😁😁😁
I fell asleep listening to you last night, and had a great sleep. You have a lovely voice to listen to.
🥰🥰🥰
I’m in central NY-your bad weather is headed our way. I just got notified that “Women’s Work” is in at the library for me. Thanks for the recommendation. Also enjoyed hearing the Nutcracker. My daughter danced in it 30 years ago. Brings back so many memories.
Thank you for sharing the pattern number of your shirt. I am alway on the lookout for a basic pattern that I can use over and over.
Love ,love the history and importance of textiles. I wish I could sew as well. So cute!
Love those googly eyes. My CPW (Angelique) does not like to ply either. I've read that the CPW was made to only spin fast for production of singles for the mills. They are not meant for plying. And the reason it has a knob on the front is for putting the single around it for winding off. Then you would not have to take the drive band and bobbin off the wheel. 😊
Watching your treadle foot is like watching a blinker you try to see if it'll stay on beat with whatever music or beat is happening around you. It was almost but I'm sure someone more musical could tell me otherwise lol. Beautiful color!
Listening to the Nutcracker and watching you do your ballet on the spinning wheel has been a wonderful way to spend an evening. Thank you
Beautiful soundtrack for today's spin. Good luck in the storm. We're just coming out the other side on the west coast and it's been a good way to learn more about what I like/need in a handknit mitten, toque, and cowl in serious cold. I hope you can enjoy a silver lining in the storm, too!
Oh my goodness 🥲 talk about blast from band and doing full orc concerts! ❤️❤️ I found I was still taking a breath at the same spots that I did when the clarinet played 🤯🤭 nutcracker will never die in my world either
I love the moments when you are treadling to the beat of the song!
💃💃💃🧶
Just got back home before the blizzard, glad to be back with my spinning and crochet. My sister is stuck in Atlanta airport though!
I like the little poof on your T-shirt sleeve, it gives it more style. Here in Vancouver Canada we are experiencing some really cold weather and about 1-2 feet of snow. It's rare for us and a lot of the city has come to a halt ... and were are expected to have more of it in the next couple of days. I'll be sitting next to my space heater keeping warm while I knit some last minute xmas gifts.
We had some really cold days lately but now it gets pretty warm. As you unpacked the fiber I did not think of fire but of toffee and as it was plied I thought of delicious honey.
No blizzard here in the Netherlands, Europe, we did have very little snow last week and a lot of ice... Pretty happy we are now just getting rain 😉
Thanx for the video and the tips on longdraw. What you described as a wobble is just Philippe dancing to the music.
🕺🕺🕺
The googley eyes have it! Thank you for such a fun and informative channel Evie! My blizzard plans are to go back and rewatch your Vlogmas and many of your older videos while I spin and knit 😀
The yarn does look like the fire. Beautiful!
I have been working from an Icelandic fleece since early spring. Blending it with my angora & with alpaca. It's really nice to work with
Your treadling foot is almost moving in time with the music! Blizzard in the metro Vancouver/Fraser Valley area of B.C., Canada, last night. A good excuse to stay home and spin/knit!
It's been a very slow start to summer here, but we have just had a whole week of warm weather, which has been delightful.
the googly eyes cracked me up, lmao
also, gorgeous floof that turned into gorgeous yarn, thanks for bringing us along
I can't wait for the 2023 Recreations! I have already learnt so much about the history of fiber craft rom you, Evie! Thank you for sharing your new book find - it sounds like a great read!
Omg, you have such a great sense of humor!! The googling eyes you put on your sticker was funny! I can’t decide if I want to do that to mine though lol.
May I recommend 'Aussie Christmas with Bucko and Champs'. Mostly traditional songs with words changed to suit the Aussie climate, and the odd original song. Six White Boomers (kangaroos) has been around since the 60's. I also want to highlight Aussie Jingle Bells and C'mon, It's an Aussie Christmas. I checked RUclips to make sure it's available. It never gets old (for me).
Your vlogmas series has been a joy to watch. You have added value to my days 🙂
Love the yarn you spun. Indeed it looks like fire. We are expecting some yucky weather in PA too. Good time fir spinning!
We got where I am in IA, 5 or 6 inches of snow. The winds haven’t picked up yet, but they said we are in the blizzard area with -13 tonight before wind chills and minus temps all day tomorrow, the very cold weather is a bit early this year, but I can still look forward to out mid winter thaw in early Jan before these fridge temps return.
I have a wheel that wobbled like that (Ashford Traveller) I needed a new wheel for it, it was warped and was shaking the screws loose on the maidens, they will need to be wood puttied and the screws re-screwed in. sigh.
The blanket on your chair is beautiful!
Thank you! It was all handspun, dyed and woven in The Andes. ❤
I am in Arizona but baby it's cold outside!! Well for us it is! Down in the 30's at night and I have to cover the most precious thing in my yard.....my orange tree....everything else could kick the bucket but not that!! We are headed to Utah for Christmas where it's snowing but that's ok because I can wear all my hand spun knitted and woven alpaca and sheep goods!! Happy Holidays Evie!!
I have so many fond memories of going to see the Nutcracker with my family. And am just waiting for my kids to get a bit bigger before taking them.
Victoria BC, we hardly ever get snow, but it’s Snow Day 2 here. So happy to spin with you, I enjoy long draw too. Your yarn looks more like taffy to me, but maybe I’m just hungry. Thanks for the Waltz!
Gorgeous colors in your finished yarn! It does look like fiery colors 😊
thanks for the cheerful company with my morning spinning. excited for your new book too-will look it up and order, sounds like a must read!
I sure love the colors of the fireplace!!!
I will have to get that book! I've always been interested in history and now that I'm also interested in fiber and textiles, it looks like a perfect fit. We are also about to get hit with the storm here in Michigan. Grateful to have some wool to spin and yarn to work up while we wait it out.
Hi the “Valkyries Loom” book seems very interesting. My local library (in a big suburban town near Chicago, IL) , Does not carry it. . I also agree with your comment in a prior UTube - that dog fur has a certain yucky smell, even if it is clean. I use to spin, about 10 years ago and am just getting back into it now that I no longer work . YAY !! me .
I went to the Wisconsin wool and fiber fest on Saturday in September 2022. So much fun. So much yarn. I learned to spin at the WI w& fiber about 15 years ago . Yes I had to take a class to learn. Originally I was trying to learn thru watching u-tube videos . Had to actually take a class.
With the pandemic I hadn’t been to a fiber show since a long time. I am going next year for sure.
"Valkyrie's Loom" just came out. The publish date actually says Jan 2023 so it might be worth asking your library because they might order it. Maybe I'll see you at Wisconsin Sheep and Wool next year!
That sticker! That’s the right use for googly eyes!
That’s a beautiful yarn. And I loved the sound of Philippe as you spun. That book sounds really interesting and I’ve learned so much already about textiles from listening to you over the years. And you’re right. Ensuring that any information that remains is retained and studied is so important. Unless stories are told, they are lost.
Your sticker + googly eyes is amazing ahaha. It's got me thinking about which inanimate objects around my house might benefit from googly eyes 😂.
You videos bring so much joy. Thank you for all the fiber fun.
I feel like this video has been so on point for me. I am watching/listening to this, doing some crocheting whilst I am waiting for the time to arrive that I can go to my (amateur, 1x a week, adult) ballet class.. Thank you
Such beautiful music, the nutcracker, or as we say in Dutch ‘de notenkraker’. No white christmas here, stay safe!
Love watching you spin! My friend has a CPW. She spins beautiful yarn with it.
I'm prepped for insane low Temps and a blizzard. Love the googly eyes!
We will be COLD, but it looks like the snow will go north before it gets to us in SE PA.
-31C Or -24 F Northern Alberta Canada. Sitting by the Woodstove. Glad I don't have to go out again. Temp will drop as the evening goes on.
The googly eyes give me life!
I am very interested in hearing more of your readings of this book, the gold yarn is beautiful like the warm cozy fire behind you. Merry Vlogmas to you, I'm enjoying your stories very much, spinning too!
You are just the sweetest- I love your smile! I'm in central IL and preparing for cold weather and potential snow. Hoping it doesn't last long. Today's yarn was very pretty. I want to work on my long draw.
I have read that if your "fiber hand" is on the left, your wheel should have a right flyer BUT seeing you do long draw holding fiber on the left with a left flyer makes sooo much more sense!
I think we’re only getting ‘snain’ here on the east coast. So more freezing rain. 😒
I love your dresses and I will be looking into the book! I have an anthropology degree and studied women’s clothing, adornments and household items such as the handmade brooms used in the home across India. so it’s right up my alley. Thank you for sharing!
Our Friday December 23rd forecast for snow has disappeared, but temperatures will go down to 9° that night. Brrrr!
Thank you !! Stay warm and safe in the next few days, from northeast Ohio.
Omg the googly eyes killed me, I think you should get a pair of the big googly eyes for one of your wheels! 😂 Your tshirt came out so cute too!
It a whopping 3’ F with a wind chill of -15’F here in Oklahoma. I’m staying home and knitting my girls some new stocking hats. They’ve grown out of the old ones already 😁
I usually listen to the Classic Christmas music. But I also like things like Father Christmas by the Kinks and Fairytale of New York when it all gets too saccharine. There will be cold weather coming in tonight. Hopefully the weather clears for my parents coming up tomorrow.
That book looks fascinating!
I so look forward to watching your videos while I work on finishing my gift knits 😊
I am getting rain/sleet on Thur and snow into Fri. I live near the great lakes.
I'm normally a cool color person but I could totally see that in a project with some purple and it would look amazing. So pretty. And now I have to find that book thx.
"Lit" and "slaps" 🤣. You're the coolest! :)
Yes yes blizzard going on right now! I'm in denial about going out to feed cows, horses, sheep, llama and alpacas!! -35 windchill and 50+ mph winds. Then have to work graves yuck. Anyway seeing you spin makes me happy!
Went out to feed the cows not the 4 wheeler is stuck in a snow drift 😱🥶
Happy Yule to everyone xx celebrating the shortest day and half way through winter. Thanks for reminding me of the nutcracker...I'm putting it on now. Thanks Evie for volgmas I'm so enjoying it 🎄
I love that Tshirt. Thank you for showing the pattern
I'm loving the fireplace theme, the colors are beautiful! We're getting ready to get hit with the winter storm as well. Unfortunately as an essential employee I still have to brave driving in it 😓
Yup, we’re pretty snowy here too and minus 35/40 😂🎉
I'm down south so we are getting cold weather but no white Christmas. I've also been practicing on my long draw.
I'd love a white Christmas it's raining again here where I live.
I love the T Shirt and yes I'm in Ohio and we are expecting Snow for Christmas 🎄...looks so cozy and warm with the fire place...mmmmmm
What an enjoyable podcast. I really liked the spinning and listening to the nutcracker, what a great idea
Love that you name your wheels!!
I noticed you were wearing your tee. So pretty. Well done. I have also been waiting all day for your video. Thank you so much for sharing the music. I love those 2 songs. Would love to hear you play sometime. Have a great night.
Jillian I loved watching you spinning on the CPW thank you for sharing
Your googlie eyes are perfection, never change 🤣❤️ I hope to eventually buy an Avent calendar from you soon. My baby is finally going to be one and I feel like a human again so I can't wait to get back into spinning.
Beautiful yarn! Looks like phoenix-fire!
My favourite Christmas song is Fiddler’s Green - The Yule Fiddler by Patty Gurdy… Bouncy, catchy, and fun!
Love the sticker and the finished yarn!!! beautiful!!!
