While #2 is beautiful, I think I vote for #1. They look classy and simple, and I can just picture those little black details swapped out for a glittery golden thread (if that's even possible, I don't know a lot about weaving yet haha)

Accessibility is so important and I'm glad you're prioritizing it! I'm definitely going to be reaching out to YT
Speaking of accessible, maybe you can try some pick up band weaving at some point! I can't afford big looms (or fit them in my tiny apartment), but it's easy to make or buy a small rigid heddle loom, use yarn that's laying around, and make some awesome bands that can be used as belts, straps, or hems on clothing!!

First of I love both pretty much equally. I'm drinking a tea called "Bij weer en wind". It means that it's a tea for bad weather days, and it is indeed extra lovely to drink on those days.
I think that december is for most people a very busy time, so lets keep it with option 1, and save option 2 for a time when there's less stuff clamoring for your time and attention.

Loving the colors of wool you have in that basket. Shetland is a breed I’m considering raising. I just bought a farm with my husband, and he is excited to see me raise the sheep and pretty much process sheep-to-sweater! Definitely going to research more of the wools and see what I can get my hands on to spin before I finalize my choice.

Anyway I am watching replay with some sashiko stitching for someone's (late, oops) birthday present.

I’m not a weaver, and love both patterns… perhaps it would be more practical to start with the first, as it’s faster and would provide content for a video sooner. Using the second one as a later follow-up could provide a ‘part two’ video at a later date.
My warm cozy drink of the moment is Turkish Apple Tea, almost like a warm apple cider with a tart, crisp finish that provides a touch of reminiscent Summer feelings to combat the frost outside whilst still warm and comforting.
My current project is spinning ultra-fine merino for a lace knitting project. I’ve just gifted myself the Eew Nano2 and a few days ago I plied my first ever bobbin. Despite sitting amongst boxes and boxes I need to unpack after major renovations to my home (literally had to move out for a few months) I try to spin a little bit every day. With a bit of luck I’ll be knitting by Christmas and will keep on alternating my knitting and my spinning until I’ve finished my lace project. So excited!
My Christmas wish list for this year consists mostly of fibre to spin with. Alpaca, Malabrigo Nube, Mohair, a few blends… there is some for every budget and I provided quantities and feedback on what projects I intend them for (which mostly consists of projects I intend as gifts for them!). Before anyone thinks this is very entitled: in my family, we are required to communicate a wish list including items suitable for any budget. I tend to craft for gifts, almost never keeping my finished pieces for myself. My family knows I love my crafts and will often heavily hint at how much they love a piece I’m working on. Might as well get gifts I enjoy that end up as gifts THEY enjoy. 😊

I love both of those patterns! I think number 1 would be easier & quicker. With the holiday season here I'd want to do the easy quick version as to optimize my time during this very busy time if year. Less stress that way too.
You could always do the more tedious(read: longer taking) pattern at another time when you've got time on your hands to spend for a longer taking or more complicated project.
    Thank you for vlogmas videos!

I actually do have a spinning question for you. Is it dumb to consider drop spinning human hair for practice since I'm too cheap to go out and buy fibre I know I'm going to ruin at first? I save what comes out of my hairbrush for stuffing pincushions (every other stuffing I've tried has been infenior), so of course, weirdo that I am, I'm looking for other uses. I am in no way figuring it will be a quality yarn, and I know I probably won't want it against my skin cause I don't like wool on my skin and wool is much finer than my hair, but I'm guessing my staple length will be between 8 and 16 inches, wavy not curly, coloured but not visibly damaged, and laundry or dish detergent seems to "scour" the other stuff that comes off the hairbrush out of it quite well. Thanks!

Or are they more rustic Krokbragd mug rug folks? If you're making them for me... it's definitely #2! Maybe I will thread some up soon. Or do some overshot pick up... Every blessing to you, Evie.

Happy Vlogmas, Evie! Here in the replay, drinking my Irish Breakfast tea. First: My vote is always for krokbragd. The other pattern is really quite cute and would be a faster weave, yes. However, I love boundweave patterns and I have since I started weaving 20+ years ago. It allows for such interesting complexity of graphic design, and for a mug rug it will give a lot of thickness and density between the hot mug and your tabletop. Yes, it takes longer, but these are mug rugs and each one doesn't take that much time! Next: I love Kristine's channel and envy you the opportunity to chat with her. Yay for the shout-out! :) Finally: textiles in space! It's a topic of regular consideration in my house (we talk space a lot in my house). I think knitting will be very important as an entertainment activity in space ships of the future, as it is lightweight, doesn't take up a lot of storage volume, allows for the creation of adornment (in a place you can't easily ship new clothes to) and can be frogged and reknit into new things (novelty without requiring huge amounts of storage). Sorry to go on, it's like this chat was speaking to me the whole time...

Also, question for you if you get a chance to answer questions: do you know much about the history of supported spindles? I feel like a lot of references and art I have seen talk about drop spindles, but were supported spindles also used in ancient times? Medieval times? And in what cultures? I’ve tried some basic searches and haven’t found many leads specifically about supported style spindles.

I think you should do rugs number 1 first, and then the krokbragd second, and that way you can still have something to gift if you run out of time, and the krokbragd doesn't need to be all Christmas colors if you're still working on them after Christmas.

Sorry I missed the live, hope to catch the next one. I just love your videos. I don't spin - yet, I always learn something new, and I just bought my very own spindle!! My dexterity is a bit limited, but this may even help and what the heck, why not! I happened across some lovely black Jacob fiber I just couldn't resist. I am keeping my eyes open for a used wheel or e-spinner too. I've been sewing for many years and always wanted to spin my own yarn and weave my own fabrics. I so appreciate your thoughtfullness for those with accessibility issues and alerting those of us who are sensitive to certain on screen motions. 🤗 I really like both weaving patterns. If you want one or both ready for the holidays, option #1 may be the better one to start, otherwise I would go with #2 first, then #1, if I knew how to weave that is. 😉

I think if the goal is to have the mug rugs for this holiday season then go for the cocktail carpets (#1) and then you can work on the korkbragd for next season and alternate them as you see fit :D.
I missed the live but I have a spinning question, you can answer it in the next live if you want to explain without typing it all out.
I have about 2oz of malabrigio nube that seems to be a little felted from the dyeing and I want to spin it on my 2nd hand ashford traditional but I just cannot get it to draft easily without the wheel ripping it out of my hands. I'm treadling as slow as I can without the wheel just stopping and my tension is all the way down. Is my problem the fiber? Can I do anything outside of just predrafting the whole thing? I can spin it on my spindle consistently via park and draft, but I really wanted to use my wheel to practice on it as I'm new and don't have a big fiber stash to work with. Thank you

I saw several videos on the issues of drafting Malabrigo Nube. Several content creators advise to steam the fibre to get it to loosen up. I’ve seen one video in which the spinner uses a steam iron, another one where the spinner holds the fibre close to the spout of a water kettle. You can really see the fibre puff up, and apparently it drafts much, much easier afterwards without being wet. Once the fibre is steamed, it can either be spun as is, or it gets split (in 2 or in 4, depending on the spinner.s preference). Perhaps it’ll help. I’ve got sole Malabrigo Nube on my Christmas wish list!
Happy spinning and I hope you get the issue solved!

@@angief.9612 - Fingers crossed it works! Malabrigo Nube is so gorgeous! I’ve been drooling over several braids when I went to a crafts fair November 10th… I’d already spent my budget unfortunately. Now I’ve put it on my Christmas wish list and am desperately hoping someone in my family gets me some.
I’ve already steamed another braid I have that was quite compacted and it worked on that one. So you ‘ve already got someone all the way in Belgium rooting for you that it does the same for you!
