I bought it when it was released and played with no issues as far as I can tell. I can't recall if I ever patched it, but I got my patches from computer magazines' CDROM, which was way quicker than downloading them. Oh, that's unlocked a memory: the 3dfx miniports!

@@guncanny Uhh, so I played through it like 10 or so years back after reading Masters of Doom, just out of curiosity. The sidekicks pathing was still broken, even after the community patches, they'd get stuck on ladders or openings in the floor, or any door that is operated with a switch. Other times in the game without the sidekicks it was between mediocre and at times almost okay. If it was the only game in the genre maybe it would have fared better... But by then it was a fairly crowded market of better games. I actually tried playing it again about a year ago, maybe around the time I read Doom Guy, and I had to stop at those infamous first two levels, Marsh, and Sewer. Despite all its flaws and bugs I still consider it as my all time favorite game. The gaming world could have been much more interesting had this game got to define the FPS genre instead of Half Life.
Sin had the most abysmal load times when it first released and wasn't fixed til a few HUGE patches were released, those downloads were not fun in dial-up days this was one of the big reasons the game wasnt as well received, HL had amazing load times.
Oh this was well done man! In many ways SIN was a lot more "fun" than Half Life. The thing is Half Life was just on another level as a total package.
