I got my start with the series in SoF2 and the multiplayer gameplay always reminded me of the modern day Call of Dutys. When I saw CoD4 I couldn't help but notice how similar the vibe was to SoF2. I think its obvious but Soldier of Fortune was the genesis for modern CoD. It's almost as if SoF was rebranded to CoD and the rest is history. I'm glad I'm not the only one who recognized a correlation after all these years.
Interesting how a lot of us millennials were playing M rated games as early as our preteens or early teens. My first M rated game was Resident Evil on the GameCube, but it wasn’t long until I was playing stuff like GTA and Manhunt soon after, lol.
I remember back in the day on highschool SoF didn’t needed to be installed so we all had thumb drives with the game on it, every opportunity we got there would be impromptu death matches. Those times were crazy wild, good times!
@@guncanny talking about Quake II, I recently bought the remake on steam. And I’m having a blast playing through it. Also experiencing, for me unplayed expansions and recent expansions. Especially the latter shows the twenty years of experience, those maps are big, open and drop dead gorgeous. 👌🏼

@@guncanny I believe there are still SOF2 servers up and running however it is difficult to get a CD key. You might not even need a real key these days, not sure.
Wish both Soldier of Fortune 1&2 got proper remasters for both current consoles and pc by Nightdive Studios. A remake of the 1st could be great too. Forget Soldier of Fortune Payback ever happened.
Great video, this is a guilty pleasure of mine, but I understand how the simplistic gameplay might not age that well. I'm glad this game wasn't censored here in Australia, and I heard that the second game had a rather unusual censored German version, so that would be interesting to see! I'll be sure to let you know when I finish my video, and I'm glad to hear you like train levels as well, hahaha.
@@ChronoWarrior1996 Monolith shared a similar fate, both were my favourite fps studios. I can't tell how many hours in my childhood I spent playing their games.
As usual for those 90's-2000's games, first levels are well-rounded and polished and last levels are just slapped together because publisher wanted to sell it faster.
While the introductory subway level is probably the best, and some of the later stages drag a bit in comparison, a few of the later levels are also excellent. The NYC/hotel and Tokyo stages are pretty much up there with subway.
To me, this game is great, and it was one of the FPS that i've got to play as a teenager. Even if the game didn't went as realistic as they wanted to be, it's still fun to play and it has memorable levels. Too bad Raven Software discontinued the series, I don't think SoF would have it's own remastered game, hell, even older FPS Games like Project I.G.I or Delta Forces: Black Hawk Down were back in the track, but due to the sales of SoF:Payback (and the game being shitty as it is), I think SoF will stay dead, until someone buys the IP from Activision (Raven Software got adquired by them). Thank you for this video, and I hope you can play the sequel Sof: Double Helix.
The weapon’s are badass and when I first played this I thought the gunplay aged badly but lord and behold it did not the best weapons are the desert eagle shotgun SMG and others
i remembered the final boss Dekker was quite an ass of a boss to beat. The AA guns on the sub suddenly fired at me while he's chasing me around. God damn! not sure if those AA guns are only activated when i was playing on Highest difficulty though?
Absolutely fantastic, game I loved to play. But as much as I loved this one, SoF2 is better in every regard. Especially multiplayer. I must have played multiplayer SoF2 for days... BTW you forgot to mention something important. That John is an actual real life person!
For some reason I always missed SoF2 but I can’t wait to play it now! Yeah I had a sneak peek of him in the video around 1:13 :) and also recorded the voice for that but I had to make some cuts unfortunately :( Trying to keep these videos compact
I never could get to enjoying SoF 2. It was too different from the first game, leaving behind the fast-paced run'n'gun/Quake style gameplay in favour of stealth and more "realism". Never tried the multiplayer though.
Our old friend Mr Mullins should appear in a new game for PS4. He could fight Daesh, DPRK forces, Wagner mercenaries, drug cartels, and neonazis in the US

I think I was also 11 when I first played it lol
@@guncanny How weird is that? I also was around that age, but I was playing SOF2. Super good memories of that game.
That shotgun in the first mission was sick, the first time I hit a bandit with it my jaw dropped. I was 12, playing on my new fat PS2. Great memories.
