Sad fact about the devs on the day of released they renamed their self’s to Gary matter studios and made RTCW in 2001. but a year later they were bought by activison in 2002 and made a Expansion pack for the original call of duty. But a year later they were transformed to Tyarch and is send to the mines of call of duty.
I played this one in the late 90s/early 2000s and loved it all the way! As a 12-13 year old teen, the gore and the swearing were actually added value to me. 😀 Plus, I've always been a huge fan of the 90s and the early 2000s Cypress Hill's work so I was in seventh heaven. To put it in a nutshell, it just couldn't get any better than this (O.K., maybe it would've been even cooler if they'd included more than, if my memory serves me right, only three instrumental tracks from the Cypress Hill's 1998 album "IV", but I'm probably just nit-picking here, so don't mind me 🤪). And boy, I couldn't agree with you more: for such a young gamer, it was a pretty difficult video game, but, at the same time, quite innovative back then. However, once you figured it out, it left you quite impressed that they would come up with such mechanics in the first place, so yeah, can't rate it objectively either as it made a huge impact on me and was a big part of my gaming life. 😝
I’m glad to see another enthusiast! Yeah I was expecting a few more Cypress Hill tracks honestly because these can get a little repetitive after a while!
The inconsistent difficulty and cheap AI in this game are its worst failings. Not enough to stop me from coming back to it every now and then, but the memory of this game is always better than actually playing it again.
I love the setting and atmosphere of the game, but I remember being drained when I first beat it. I really wish Nightdive remastered it because there are a few balancing/odd issues that they would have fixed. It really deserved better.
The whole retailer thing was probably due to ESRB ratings (or the lack of other ratings) at the time. Or the fact that parents could buy the game for themselves, but run the risk of their kid hopping on the computer and playing it. I know Max Payne and Duke Nukem 3D had “parental locks” as well. This could also just be a case of parents not paying attention to what kids buy or play, and blaming developers/publishers for it. Retailers probably ran the risk of giving out refunds to angry parents, therefore losing money/buying a product they’d struggle to sell, so they refused to stock copies of it.
I really dig the art style and out of time setting. It mixes the old timey gangster era with a modern urban flair. I could see a random Polish studio making a janky remake.
i played this also when i was young , its very interesting game. very ahead of its time , and kinda makes me realise how sterile lots videogames are with everything being pg10-13
Kingpin got a remaster a few years ago but unfortunately from the gameplay I've seen it absolutely sucks. The original game was awesome though. If you're looking for a hidden gem try Chasm: The Rift. It's a solid shooter that has actual individual rain droplets falling and has dismemberment for enemies. You can chop an arm off and they'll keep on fighting.
Man I really need to reactivate my old PC for this game. There's a "remaster" out there that supposedly is trash but I wouldn't know because it keeps crashing on my current PC :/
@@guncanny the thing is I'm German and here Kingpin was put on the infamous index shortly after its debut. Which means it's not exactly banned but you can't legally advertise it here. Which also means stores like GOG or Steam hide it from me. Don't know if it's account based or if a VPN would do the trick. The game was removed from the index in June 2024 but somehow GOG doesn't seem to have gotten the memo. I probably still have the original disk somewhere, so maybe I'll try installing it with the community patches sometime soon.
Wow, you managed to unstuck the stucked guy! I didn't so I had to restart the whole level. Very bitter, especially since I played on the hardest difficulty. Yes, I did. And finished it. Basically you quickload more often than you hit the trigger button, but I'm a madman... Great video. There's more to Kingpin than just murder people brutally. Btw Kingpin was controversial here in Germany, too. That's for sure! But after a school shooting politicians tried to ban Counter Strike in Germany. And they failed! Still a little wonder... For me, I disliked the release of Postal 2. Cause video games were controversial enough, now you could use cats as a silencer for weapons?! No good timing... some years later I read that you can actually finish the game as a pacifist and I thought "there must be more to this game than just brutality, right?" Right, indeed! It's so much more than just murder people... like Kingpin :)
i just don't get it why they censor Command & Conquer Generals game? in german version every human charachters units are turned into frikn cyborgs and suicide bomber into bomb on wheels, while in China game tottaly baned.
I bought this when it came out. I loved CH loved FPS shooters - but i didnt kno sht about half life til like 2 years after it came out only adverts in mags - I just wanted this dumbass game ha

that’s awful 😞
I think it's really funny how every single man in this game is absolutely massive. Just some real beefy chunky boys
haha that’s so true 😂
Played it back when it was released, loved it and remember the settings and how cool it was.
it’s still cool! 🤝

I’m not gonna lie I almost smashed my keyboard a few times haha but I loved the atmosphere and goofy story enough to play it again one day lol

yea I agree I got frustrated a few times too!

Yea you’re right probably! I also remember that people were blaming video games for a lot of stuff back then (maybe they still do).

Oh what I wouldn’t give for a eurojank remake lol
The “official” remake was quite awful unfortunately, this game deserves better :(

Yeah I added a lil snippet of the remaster to the end of the video but it is indeed quite bad :( such a shame

Don’t touch the remaster dude!

(I mean give it a try if you feel like but I don’t recommend it at all :) )

*It is, and a remaster is coming out soon too.*
I'm getting both.
@@Westile be careful with the remaster my dude!
Have played through this one five times 😅
This game is set in a Fox News viewer's conception of the Inner City

Why do the 3D meshes bounce and distort like that?
