When Hank was innocently naive about his mom & Gary having sex in his own home (Hank seriously thought they accidentally misplaced their own clothes & that the banging was the washer/dryer), I thought that was utterly hilarious.
The thing I like about it is that the reason Carolyn likes Peggy is because she has character. She stands out. It's not a fad and it's not because Peggy's easy to dupe. Carolyn respects Peggy.
Keep in mind that this aired back in 2007 at a time when drag queens (and the lgbtq for that matter) were still written as stereotypical jokes in other media. For a show about a conservative Texan family, it really handled progressive topics well.
That was something the show did better than any other show. It knew how to write a conservative character without making them a joke, nor was the show itself conservative.
The Hill's might be conservative but Hank Hill still stood up for the LGBT community and other marginalized communities. He's a conservative in the purest sense of the word, he seeks to preserve the Constitution and the rights it grants everyone.
Koth has always been a very progressive show. And Hank wouldn't dream of being a homophobe/transphobe. He doesn't understand and can't really grasp the concept. But he'd never treat anyone differently for something as minor as that.

For those who haven’t seen this episode: Carolyn is a professional drag queen whom Peggy met someplace. Peggy has no idea he’s not really a woman, and Carolyn thinks Peggy’s a (gay) guy in drag too. Peggy eventually figures it all out, and is mortified. Even though she tells Hank, he’s too buttoned down to get what she really means. As crazy as it all sounds, they actually pulled it all off in this episode. Peggy learns to respect herself and Hank never fully gets what actually happened..
If I remember correctly they met while Peggy was shopping for shoes and her feet were so big that the salesperson couldn’t really find her anything pretty so Caroline stepped in to help. And the ending was pretty sweet too, as far as Peggy based episodes go.
@@fireflyeclipse Small addition that I remember but I think it's important to the whole context of the episode, Peggy was upset about not fitting into usual women's shoe sizes when participating in a clothing trade with her friends, which led to her finding a specialty store that caters specifically to feminine shoes in larger sizes. She was super happy, but didn't realize that the store's customer demographic was focused on the local drag queen scene. That's why Carolyn assumed Peggy was a man.
Shame Carolyn/Jamie wasn't used for more episodes. He really brought out the best in Peggy, as he liked Peggy for who she was, and thus, Peggy didn't feel the need to impress her.

However, if I recall correctly, they win 2nd, and we never learn whose perspective was the "right" one, but we do them see then getting along at the end, despite their major differences.
That is the difference between men and women. A man sees his wife having fun with a friend and he is happy for him. A woman walks into a room and see her husband doing something that brings him joy and she tries to sabotage it or impose herself into it to make it about her.

God the writing of this show is so good. When I originally watched this I never guessed that it would go down like this - plus, as a kinda conservative based show (with the main character being conservative and all) it handled these topics so well. King of the Hill has its place as one of the top shows from this time
Why wouldn't it be? No one's being an ass or firving their beliefs on each other, just a genuine dynamic between people. People have problems with trans groups because of very specific things. People have problems with straight people for very specific things as well. Debating whether they are transphobic or whatever isn't healthy. Its deciding how you do things that matters.
This is why king of the hill was a head of its time. Tsking complex issues with such respect to the subject and people they're targeting in a positive manner
Yeah, I like it, too. I think it really fits the character's personality, in which they're very outward and bubbly, yet holds themselves back from ever being too loud (and all that that implies). According to the King of the Hill Wiki, the voice actor is Michael Jamin, someone who's only really had 3 voice acting roles (including this one) and is more of an executive producer for adult-oriented animations.

Leave it to a 15+ year old king of the hill episode on a contentious social issue to age infinitely better than pretty much any other (and way more recent) animated show broaching the same topic… I used to give family guy a pass for the quagmires dad thing because it was back in 2010 and I thought we were lucky it wasn’t worse, then I found out that was literally the same year KOTH ended, years after this episode had been produced and I was like wow, nah it wasn’t all bad back then…
Damn you have to feel for Peggy. Everyone gets on her case for being uber confident but you also have to take in consideration who she is. She's not beautiful by society's standards she's pretty manly and bigger psychically with really big feet so she had to really not care and love herself as she could and having a non supportive mother really messed her up. As you grow older you realize it's just a defense mechanism like I'd rather laugh at myself than have others do that for me
This show was based. It fostered progressive attitudes in a very smooth way, never forcing unnatural interactions between any characters and just having everyone be themselves.
o-o then be someone that puts more representation out into the world instead of taking time out of your day to complain about the places you can't find it.
@@CrokusTheDerg Just want to point out that you can write stories with diversity, stories that positively represent the experiences of marginalised people, and that doesn’t mean your story will ever be published even if it’s really good. Publishers regularly refuse to publish works with marginalised people, and they regularly have writers either remove minorities from the stories or change the stories so that the experiences represented are watered down or change to reflect more “mainstream” experiences. Writers from marginalised groups often struggle to be taken seriously because of bigoted people running things too, so even if a publisher is willing to take “risks” they could still decline good works due to personal bigoted beliefs. When marginalised experiences do get represented it’s often poor representation that’s stereotypical or otherwise reinforces bigoted beliefs; this is often because marginalised people aren’t involved in writing these stories, even as consultants, so those writing about the experiences are just basing things off of stereotypical ideas they’re familiar with. Though this might not be the best place to go about it, complaining about a lack of good representation is at the very least a decent way to show there is a market for it. Also, not everyone wants to create stories and I personally think that shouldn’t be a requirement in order to criticise stories. If you dislike how something is represented or if you feel like there was a lack of representation that should’ve been there, then you should be free to voice those criticisms without being expected to become a writer too.
Just like there are men who are insecure of feeling not manly enough, it’s good that they show through Peggy that women feel insecure about not feeling womanly enough, too. Just goes to show everyone goes through it, feeling never enough.

When I originally watched this I never guessed that it would go down like this - plus, as a kinda conservative based show (with the main character being conservative and all) it handled these topics so well. King of the Hill has its place as one of the top shows from this time
This comments section is way less shitty than I was expecting
dont ruin it bud, they could be watching... or lystening GRET OUT OF MY THOJUGHTSS AGHHH
King of the Hill fans are a peaceful people, unless you prefer charcoal...

Sad this character never came back after this episode

Am I the only one who really loves Carolynn's voice??
Yeah, I like it, too. I think it really fits the character's personality, in which they're very outward and bubbly, yet holds themselves back from ever being too loud (and all that that implies).
According to the King of the Hill Wiki, the voice actor is Michael Jamin, someone who's only really had 3 voice acting roles (including this one) and is more of an executive producer for adult-oriented animations.
Sounds like the CPS twerp from the pilot
Peggy being mistaken for a drag queen is actually quite brutal.
😂
Well she was shopping in a drag store
@@kuruptzZz
She has HUGE feet.
@@justaregularguy115 I have a good friend, she is a genetic female, very pretty, feminine, loves high heels, but she wears a size 11 or 12 in women's shoes. She has a hard time finding the shoes she likes. Poor Peggy, her feet are even bigger.
They did her dirty😅
Sometimes I forget how smooth the animation in king of the hill is at times. Especially in the later seasons
This was so wholesome. Hank looked so pleased that I half expected him to jump in and dance too.
It feels refreshing to see that it's the one in drag finding out that the other person isnt someone in drag. Most shows tend to always do it the other way. But I found myself intrigued at the fact its Carolyn putting the pieces together in realizing Peggy is not a drag queen. That shes a genuine mom whose married. Idk I just like the idea.
Love this episode. Peggy is so awesome!! Her and Caroline rock this song dance like nobodies business! Haha
Peggy is the worst character on the show
Bobby Lawson More like one of the worse characters ever of any show :D
Oh boo. Peggy is fabulous!
Bobby Lawson I still like her regardless.
I like peggy too.
this is one way of subverting a joke of having a person figure out that a person is just dressing up as the opposite gender
For anyone wondering the song is " I'm every woman" by Chaka Khan. The Alpha Jay Show should definitely review this episode someday! Its a pretty good one!
Why do the trans community love that particular song?
@@KickingAssDaily Are you trolling or do you really not see the irony? lol
@@GDBGDB But they are not woman
King of the hill really Trojan horse’d so much into my hillbilly household. Love it!
That is such a great description 😂
Every time Hank walks in on someone having fun he gets the look of a dog that hates getting hugs.
This was one of my favorite episodes. I felt so bad for Peggy because I don’t think she’s iglú but if this were real life a man thought she was a man then... Oohhhhh man!! When hank went to go meet with “Carolynn” at the ice cream parlor it was so sweet. Hank can be very “manly” but to put a smile on Peggy’s face he will do anything 💗
Iglú?
@Leviatonn *ugly
Everything about this show is adorable, even though it tackles quite mature matters. So ahead of its time. I love it.
I was expecting a BWAAAAAAH at their dancing
I always loved this show. They were able to cover sensitive subjects without being vulgar.
"Can I have another drink plz?"
" *_HE--_* "
Dang... What a great character honestly. Wish I could of seen more of them
Regardless of politics you gotta admit these two got moves.
And the smooth animation.
You ain't even have to mention politics, fam. . . especially when it's not even political, it's someone's life

Sad, but in all honesty, at least there’s tons of Vids where people can Educate themselves now.
This is such a good episode. Funny enough despite her faults Peggy really does have a number of good episodes to her.
Lmao I love this show. Hank is such a good husband and the writing and animation is just so damn smart.
This was one of the few episodes where I actually liked Peggy. I was glad she made a friend that complimented and bettered her life instead of being another petty side character with little to no personality outside of the schtick of cheating on her dumbass husband. And Minh.
Whoa... 0:14 They hit that shit out of nowhere 😂😭🔥🙌🏾
right!!! I had to hit RUclips for the scene lmfao
I love how the Hill family was nice to everyone doesn’t matter what creed you came from. Nowadays people are just rude.
Leave it to a 15+ year old king of the hill episode on a contentious social issue to age infinitely better than pretty much any other (and way more recent) animated show broaching the same topic… I used to give family guy a pass for the quagmires dad thing because it was back in 2010 and I thought we were lucky it wasn’t worse, then I found out that was literally the same year KOTH ended, years after this episode had been produced and I was like wow, nah it wasn’t all bad back then…
Those dance moves are fire ngl
Its so funny how hank is just clueless but bobby just wasnt paying any attention
The dance is very well animated. Seriously impressive
Most beautiful moment ! Peggy was all woman
As you grow older you realize it's just a defense mechanism like I'd rather laugh at myself than have others do that for me
The joke is that she is oblivious while thinking that she is smart, well informed and praised for successes.
@@seanwebb605 She spent her life being told she was the smart one, not the pretty one
That little dance scene just brings me so much joy
LOL the animators made sure that Carolyn's adams-apple is obvious throughout
This show was based. It fostered progressive attitudes in a very smooth way, never forcing unnatural interactions between any characters and just having everyone be themselves.
That's how to do it. Don't beat your audience over the head with the message.
Except for the overtly obvious lack of people of color except used as the butt of the joke.
o-o then be someone that puts more representation out into the world instead of taking time out of your day to complain about the places you can't find it.
How was it biased? Seems pretty objective to me.
Can we talk how good the animation for the dance was.
I loved watching them dance, such a great routine.
Just like there are men who are insecure of feeling not manly enough, it’s good that they show through Peggy that women feel insecure about not feeling womanly enough, too. Just goes to show everyone goes through it, feeling never enough.
That dancing looks like hella fun
Between this and Peggy mashing stuff with her feet on the internet they're Peggy's funniest moments. 😂
This is one thing I hope the reboot keeps
The non reveals
At the end of the video, my brain went singing "staa~aab every woman".
Hank and his genuine happiness at seeing his wife happy. That is truly love when you get enjoyment from seeing your partner happy.
the animation for them dancing is actually pretty sick
Chaka Khan!!!!!!!!!!!! This episode is amazing!
which song by chaka khan?
@@a-k5929 I'm every woman.
Chaka Khan? Randy Travis? Who made this show's soundtrack. It's good
The Peggy and Hank hand shake wedding photo 😂
Make a meme out of Peggy and Caroline dancing
Even though I'm black and I may sound like a bigot here because this is an animated show but I would never expected to hear Chaka Khan in a small Texan community. Loved this scene.
IronMan93 at the Arlen Mall they were playing Crystal Waters Homeless song when Bobby wanted to go to his fat boy modeling lol.. plus Peggy is old school so I’m sure she liked that funk music
IronMan93 This show was actually really progressive in my opinion. I really appreciated it's moments like this. Hope it comes back one day
@@wazapxd565 But they don't over do it
I am actually live in the place Arland is based off of, and I can confirm people listen to Chaka khan here.
@@wazapxd565 The pitch behind the show that Mike Judge made was about a regular traditional conservative father that has a big heart, a strong work ethic, and loves his family but nonetheless has to learn about this changing world. It's not condescending to conservatives and isn't caricaturing liberals. The younger ones need to be heard because there are new things to learn while there are old lessons taken from the older folks, often learned the hard way, that we should never forget. That's why it's one of my favourite shows.
This reminds me of the episode of All In The Family where Archie saves Beverly LaSalle by using CPR, later to find out Beverly is a professional drag queen. It’s hilarious! 😂
The show's entire budget went into the animation for that dance
I love Carolyn's Jewish mom. So cute and totally supportive!
its so funny when she’s so supportive that it gets in the way of carolyn explaining the situation
Ok but I’m LIVING for the dance routine!
I see where most of the episode's budget went, that dancing was great.
Why didn’t Peggy thought it was wired for Carolyn to ask if they adopted? Normally people would just assume that your kids are biological related to you.
Because Carolyn is a guy dressed as a woman? And thought Peggy was one of those guys Because she went over size 16 shoe section
Adopt lmfao sorry it’s just so strange but funny and it flew over Peggy’s head.
Peggy can often be oblivious to things.
Well not every couple conceives, as my family knows people adopted even back in the 60’s/70’s. Peggy is also a teacher, so she may have had students in adopted situations.
Never saw the episode but I thought that "did u 2 adopt" question was a callback to the theorie that Bobby is really Bill's kid lol
This was as fluid as the animation ever got on the show, but man, it was glorious.
They should have explored this friendship more! Especially when Peggy and the drag queens start swapping shoes!
A real old fashioned conservative would never shake a woman’s hand.
hank isnt a real old fashioned conservative because he’s a good person
To emphasize the shock... Caroline looks at the photo of hank and Peggy wedding ... their Christian wedding. .... the cross was really emphasized in that shot.
Yeah, I don't think gay marriage was legal at all when this episode was made so even without the cross, the wedding must have been really confusing.
