Because men dominate the business world and they think that women should stay home and take care of the family and home. Which is of course is a very old fashioned idea. Lots of women have to work to help support the family and of course if there's no man around they have to work to support and take care of themselves and their children if they have any. In some cases the women do more of the work than the men and then the men take credit for the work that the women have done. Who decides the pay? The HR department. Who dominates the HR? It is women. And why this way? How many women do you see at late working hours, early working hours, frequent travel? Negligible. Dangerous locations, risky or life threatening jobs, under the sea, on top of skyscrapers? Almost none. Men do these jobs, and those who do it, deserve some kind of compensation for that.
