That last one really put a smile on my face, like Link has been doing all his adventures and stuff and still comes back to show zelda the neat stuff he's been encountering, since she can't really get out he brings to her things he think she'll find interesting.
There's dialogue for it so I guess this is canon which is absolutely lovely.
Your comments warms my heart too. Realizing that that can be considered canon just makes me imagine how other interactions would be between them.
I just kept wondering "How are you supposed to get the masks before you meet Zelda for the first time?" and then I realized that prior to Jabu Jabu, you can just go back there whenever and show off the masks.

I love these tiny character details. It's part of why Link's Awakening is my favourite (all the little extra characterisation you get for Marin), and honestly one of the main reasons I don't love Wind Waker (there's not a lot of these tiny minor character moments, at least comparatively).
Apparently in the German version of ocarina of time, If you speak to Zelda wearing the Keaton mask,
Zelda will say “What are you? Oh! You’re one of those adorable pocket monsters!”
I haven’t played in months, but wasn’t Keaton the creepy guy from botw?

There's something particularly eerie about Dark Link mimicking you in minor ways, like when you're low on health and exhausted it's as if he just mocks you
Well, in a way his a mirror of Link, so it seems fitting...
He actually mirrors your health, as well. So like, if you go into the fight with just a quarter heart left, he'll be defeated in one hit.

The Zelda mask reactions are adorable.
It helps get across she is still very much a kid even with the visions of having to save Hyrule, if her letter to the Kakariko guard didn't get that across. It also shows her more innocent side before she had to grow into Shiek.
And she is really brave! She doesn't feel spooked at all of those masks. Meanwhile, me as a kid: 😣

I always liked how much personality Zelda has in this game, even though she's only in a few scenes. This dialogue just adds to that
What's sad about this, though, is that once you get all three spiritual stones, you can never experience this dialogue unless you start a new file. Once Zelda and Impa flee from Hyrule Castle Town, you can never visit the garden area you first meet Zelda in. Three guards will block the path once you get inside the castle through the water spout. It's sad that you can't experience this dialogue after getting the Ocarina of Time, but it's true.
I love the thematic irony of the Deku Nuts harming Ganon at full power. Ganondorf tormented the Deku Tree so much until his death.
I also appreciate how this opens the floor for Deez Nuts jokes at Ganon's expense.
i betcha if link were to make a deez nuts joke while using deku nuts on ganon, the (new) deku tree would most definitely be laughing away at it.
there’s also irony in the fact that deku nuts are the second item you can get in the very beginning of the game

Yo Zelda reacting to link with different masks somehow makes her so warm no matter the appearance of link.
I was expecting her to be creeped out when he was wearing some of the masks. But no, it’s so heartwarming

they honestly probably didn't want to program in different reactions and opted to just have different dialogue, but it certainly does give an impression of her being genuinely kind.
I did to, but then Zelda is the sage of wisdom. She’s warm and inviting based on the heart of the character, not the looks
The German translation for the game has Zelda referencing Pikachu directly, if we show her the Keaton Mask. It's pretty neat.
A stone of truth reveals that child Zelda is unexpectedly tomboyish.

In the US version she references a mouse which Pikachu is based upon.
love zelda’s extra dialogue! we get so little characterization from her so it’s nice to see her act like a kid
Man, I really got a kick out of a bunch of those. Especially the quirky Dark Link mimicked movements, being able to break rocks with your sword, getting a huge orange rupee from defeating the Skull Kid (which otherwise don't even exist in the game, as far as I know), and *especially* freezing Bongo Bongo's hand and having the other one work to break it free. That one was especially awesome!
I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure you get the big rupee from somewhere else in the game too. Edit: I was wrong, it was the gold rupee I was thinking of.
Im absolutely stunned, never would i have imagined that the sword could store attacks and properties, when you broke the hole in the ground with just the sword i got shocked! The hands trying to break the ice is also new to me, amazing video!
I think it works only on a particular version of the game. Like 1.1 or 1.2 not sure

Power crouch stab works on all versions of OoT and Japanese Majora's Mask (Not 3D but all versions of those two, including Virtual Console). Fun fact, in Majora's Mask crouch stabs do 0 damage until you swing your sword first. In OoT I believe it is set to 1, or a Kokori Sword/Broken Giant's Knife slash.
The glitch is caused by the crouch stab attack having a null damage value (an error by developers) so it just grabs the previous value.

Whoa, Link can actually fight the Skull Kid AND kill him in Ocarina of Time? There goes Majora's Mask! I know there's more than one Skull Kid in the Lost Woods, but the one you sell the mask to is supposed to be the one from Majora's Mask due to him saying "you have the same smell as the fairy child who taught me that song in the woods" at the end of the game. That song being Saria's Song. Zelda's reactions to Link's different masks sure are cute.
It's amazing how I still discover new secrets about this game after so long!
When Bongo Bongo's hand is frozen, his eye is half-open, which, with practice, can allow for a skilled player to quickly flex on that boss. It takes practice, as you don't really have enough time to swap to normal arrows and use the lens of truth, and the lens and ice arrows can't be used simultaneously. The lens won't activate for a few seconds after using the ice arrows. You only really have enough time to see it happen with the lens, so the skill comes in with knowing where the eye is and just firing another arrow at his invisible self while he's distracted.
I came to say this, but you can also go up to his hands and spin attack to get the eye

@@adirblazkowics7717 yes I did after using ice arrows just use the hookshot while it's trying to break the ice so you don't have to equip regular arrows and use lense bongos eye is vulnerable during this so you don't need to switch I've beating bongo like this many times
ok, this video was awesome. I only knew half of the secrets. Most OoT “SeCrEtS yOu PrObAbLy DiDnT kNoW” vids are usually boring and generally pretty common. The dark link one and the dodongo cavern map thing were cool. Also the stored damage for crouch stab. Starting up the N64 today to try these out, thanks!
Is there a way to make Link think the Dark Link boss room is cold? I think it would be hilarious to see Dark Link doing the sneeze animation 😂
Using oot gz you can put him in different rooms and I believe in an old video zfg actually did test this

Apart from the Shadow Link health thing, I actually didn't know any of these. Especially fascinated by the crouch stab mechanics.
The crouch stab thing is was an oversight in the code, it's not intentional. But it's fun to mess around with
I believe almost all friendly NPCs young link can interact with will have some sort of flavor text when talking to them with any of the masks (including the extra masks after getting the mask of truth). For example, you cannot play the grave digging game with a mask on.
All the ones that you can talk to when those masks are accessible. For example Zelda has no reaction to the last four masks, as it is normally impossible to get them before she escapes from the castle
The last one is weird. The happy masks salesman opens only after getting Zeldas letter. I actually never went back before the scene with Ganondorf, chasing after Zelda and Impa. Is she still there until that cutscene? You always learn new stuff, I love that!
Yeah I was curious myself on a recent playthrough and, sure enough, she was. Interestingly, Impa will also reappear to take you outside, but in weeping angel fashion, only when you turn the camera towards zelda after getting halfway to her (so looking at the entrance to the courtyard all the way up to zelda then making the camera do a 360⁰ turn will make her *pop* into existence

@@linkflamesaber2462 you can sneak up in until you get the Zora's Sapphire. After you get it and you get the cutscene of Impa fleeing with Zelda, the guards will block off the route you used.

I can't believe I'm still learning new things about this game.
I always wondered what Zelda said when Link wore all the other masks, especially the Mask of Truth, but the Running Man we eventually give the Bunny Hood to never shows up before Zelda has to leave the castle, always after. Or at least, that's how it was when I played the game.
She won't have unique dialogue because the running man doesn't spawn until Link has all 3 spiritual stones

some characters like Saria and Malon have unique reactions to the first four mask too
also there some random npc who change their dialogue with a specific mask

Pretty sure it can since it carries the same properties so it could be a cute way to solve the puzzles
Yeah you can activate switches with it! You can even crouch stab through the Song of Time block that blocks one of them!
The way how Dark Link mimics your "low on health" animation is so cool. Like he's mocking you for taking so much damage from him.
Did you know that if you use the fishing rod on the fisherman, you can get his hat (it has to be with an adult link)
And doing so, regardless of whether you return it or sink it, will cause him to have a new rule added to the rules sign (don't cast at anybody)

That crouch stab technique really reminds me of the damage storage trick from Kingdom Hearts 1.
It definitely works similarly, basically just forgetting to code specific values for a certain thing so it just stays as what it was before
I have another one, you can reflect ganondorfs attacks back with an empty bottle. Didn't know about the deku nuts on Ganon fight but I liked to use the hammer sometimes :P
Kinda being blown away by that bit about the bongos being stable at the ends. Never would have even thought to go out that far.

I found one secret when I was younger. You can damage Twinrova with Fire/Ice arrows, well you can in the first phase. I learned that by mistake when I didn't realize you had to use the mirror shield.
I think I tried that and it didn't work but maybe I should give it a shot next time I do a rando

The implication from OoT is that Bunny's have been a long extinct animal. (Stalchildren may be skeletons of bunny humanoids as they do not attack Link if he's wearing the Bunny Hood) The rest is spot on.
She doesn't react to them, unfortunately. When I was younger and had the time to try such tedious things, I moon-jumped over the wall next to the guards after going through the moat. Interestingly, all the guards are gone in the actual path to get to her aside from the very first ones.
She reacts to the rabbit mask, as shown in the video; you can get that mask before she disappears, but you can't give it to the jogger until after, so I think a lot of people miss the opportunity to do so.
But yeah, The Mask of Truth, the Goron mask, the Gerudo mask, and the Zora mask get no response; she only says the same thing she said before you get the Zora Sapphire.

I always thought the Ice Arrows were useless, and I would only get them because the Gerudo Training Ground is fun to play through. That Bongo Bongo trick is insane @_@

Young Zelda also has dialogue for getting the Spiritual Stone of Water if you ditched finishing Dodongo's Cavern to use the bombs to get to Zora's Domain.
Ocarina of Time is a magical and beautiful game.

When I played the game as a kid I always thought those Iron Knuckles said "Töten" or "kill" if you translate it to English (because I'm German and it really sounds like it's saying something with every swing) but now I'm noticing that it's really just a grunt that comes with every swing

another video, but if you go into Impas house as little Link you can find little hints on how to complete certain tasks. Like using the Hover Boots to cross empty spaces and feeding Lord Jabu-Jabu a fish to enter his belly. This fact might be well known, but I just discovered it while playing

You can also deflect Ganondrof's energy balls with a bottle (and in Twilight Princess, you can distract him with the fishing pole)
It's really enjoyable to discover mechanics like this and when they affect gameplay, even better!

Not only Zelda reacts different to masks, Malon in the farm also. When you wear the fox mask, she thinks you are a pocket monster (Pokemon). ^^
And you can use Deku nuts against the poe sisters in the Forest temple. When they are invisible, use the nut to make them visible.

for anyone curious as to why Looygi specified the first 4 masks and not all 8 masks, you can't actually complete the Mask selling sidequest until after Jabu Jabu, as the Running Man for whatever reason won't spawn until after you obtain the Zora's Sapphire. as a result, even if you sell the mask before going back to Hyrule town, you simply can't obtain the latter 4 before Zelda runs away.

Was wondering if one of these things would be power crouch stab! You can do some weird stuff with it including getting some glitched unused values using something called "quick putaway" which gives you a bunch of fun attributes, including Din's Fire, Shadow Arrows, Slingshot, and Boomerang! Using it with ISG is cool because you can store a strong attack and then use it to stunlock enemies as well, like with a spin attack!
In the battle with dark link, if you're wearing the iron boots and frozen dark link with the hookshot you give him a thrust with the sword, he will jump over the sword, then he will never block any attack. Try it.
Now a majority of these details I was not aware of. This is so cool!

I love this.i grew up with this game from from deep africa.it helped me learn English or sumthing on that line.but also it's great to see new game mechanics my young body and mind couldn't see 🙈.But I guess these mechanisms have been patched up in most games now.BUT yet again we'll laugh at our game mechanics in a near future."if your alive though

I just fought Dark Link yesterday and stunned him with a deku nut but he behaved as a normal stunned enemy.
I was playing Master Quest so maybe it was a bug fixed in the updated game?
Or do you have to stun him within the tree for him to mimic your idles?
I knew about the masks and Zelda one. Just for curiosity's sake I went back to show her with each one. I didn't know the rest though.

As soon as the Mask Shop is open, which is right after giving Zelda's Letter to the guard in Kakariko Village, you can do all the masks back-to-back.
Even then you can revisit Zelda up until obtaining the 3rd Spiritual Stone.
