@@RalphMayhewPhotography thanks a bunch I’m really new to this hole RUclips stuff never done anything like this an I’ve just been learning as I go an with the channel growing like it is I really think it would step it up a level just have no idea what I’m doing lol
Thanks! I have the media mod but haven't used it yet so this gives me a good gaugh on how my cycling vlogs will come out. Wind is the main issue for me.
Yeah wind is a challenge. Will you talk while riding? You could try sticking a lav mic to your chest or HSU have developed a wind slayer foam sock to cancel wind noise. I could test it for you on a bike and see if it’ll work?
@@RalphMayhewPhotography Yes I talk on my bike, the windslayer is what I use at the moment and it does work well. After a while they do get a bit baggy an loose though.
Not sure if you're familiar with Tentacle Sync but I use that every chance I can get with the GoPro. You plug the Sync E into the mic input of the GoPro mod attached to the GoPro and it feeds a time sync signal onto the GoPro audio channel. Then I record audio on the Tentacle Track E(voice recorder) which is synced with all the Sync E's(have 4 so can use 4 cameras). After recording I just drag all the audio/video into the app or final cut and it all gets synced easy peasy and because its 32 bit float clipping is next to impossible. The only down side is while using the mod the GoPro is no longer water/dust proof. Cheers.
Great vid Ralph. It's a shame that the lav input is on the back of the Gopro, as it means the wire will dig into your head if wearing the headstrap! Are there no other inputs?
I've tried to use a lav mic with the Hero 12 plus Media Mod several times. I mount the lav in my motorcycle helmet and I get clipping, a LOT of clipping. It's incredible frosting and it happens even on the standard mic setting. I've often wondered if perhaps a powered lav mic might work better.
I suspect something was still on, I really dislike the GoPro audio setting options and much prefer the more straightforward DJI options. I plan to try the GoPro with the raw audio when I get home tomorrow and see how it goes.@@RalphMayhewPhotography
You´re awesome man, thanks for this Video! Firstly, great Info that I need the media case, didn´t knew that yet. I will definitely use it for my Moto Vlogs, already did that with the Insta360 OneR but thought it´s time for a little upgrade! Maybe I´ll also try to connect the Rode Wireless Go. Thanks again for this great delivery of Information!!
Great vid - Is there anyway to keep the media mod mic or internal mic recording at the same time? I use this set up in my motorcycle helmet and it's great for capturing my voice but it lacks ambient noise.
Ralph I have a question. I have a GoPro 10 with a lav mic. I have it set up in my motorcycle helmet. Seems the audio is a bit to loud and it hears all my breathing. Is there a way to lower the mic down ?
Good question. I don’t think you can however have a look in the settings to see if there’s an audio boost option. There is also a wind reduction setting that may help. The other two ideas I have is to move the mic to a different position. Maybe tape it to the inside of ur helmet near your cheek (attachment clip off of course). The other idea is to increase the material around the mic so it’s more than just that thin foam - which may act as a frequency filter to cancel the breathing noise. Hope one or all of them help.
Hi there I am a motorcycle rider that wants to replicate your set up. Your microphone lav mike seems to work well. Where did you source it? Thanks again 👍
Hmmm in my experience the lav mic lead needs to be as straight and free as possible. The mic part itself needs to be stable and not against anything and then I wonder if you can play with the GP Sou d settings to get better results 🤷🏼♂️ a pop remover of the audio edit in post would also help.
Question please! Everything works clear and perfect but the audio is only playing on one side. If you listen to the footage it’s only playing from the left side only nothing from the right. Anyone else have this issue???
I don't know if sth is wrong with my monitor or my eyes but the picture quality from this camera is barely acceptable when shot statically and it totally sucks when put into motion. So many artefacts in the foliage and on the pavement that you can't watch it.
@@RalphMayhewPhotography 😃 Thanks for the answer. Yeah perhaps you are right 🥵 Seriously though I might consider watching it on a different device. With better resolution. Don't worry, it wasn't aimed at your hard work. It was rather a desperate outcry of mine trying to see sth I cannot see. Keep up your great job 👍
In what circumstance would you use a lav mic with your GoPro? What creative options will you come up with?
Is their links to these mic an mic mod???

Using the lapel mic on a motorbike picks up crackling from my spark plugs. The older mic adapter never did this.
Is it from the spark plugs or a cable / connection issue?

If you’re just talking about the media mod you should be ok.

IS THERE ANYWAY TO SEPARATE THE LAV MIC AUDIO FROM THE GO PROAUDIO
I don’t believe there is.

Thanks very much.
So you can’t use a chest mount and a lav mic at the same time?
Yeah that should be fine. Why do you think not?
@@RalphMayhewPhotography Looks like the jack is in the back, so would be sticking into your chest.
@@agomodernI’d get a lav with a 90° jack so it wont poke your chest
