No telling how much you have cost me in the past 3 years... 😳 😆 But thanks for all the information and helping me make good decisions!
Good setup guide for using the DJI Mic with the Hero 11. They work well together and you can get much better audio with this setup. Great video, and thanks for sharing Shawn.

Old video my friend, but still really enjoy this thank you, i use the Gopro 12 with this the DJI Mic, but i also use Pocket 3 with the mic 2. Thank you again
It's because Gopro wants you to buy an adapter to make more money but not even provide a proper way to mount it. All they need to do is move the mic input to the other side and have another waterproof door.
Doesn’t matter if they provide a microphone input on the camera, the unreliable GoPro will select whichever external microphone it feels will wreck your footage and waste the most time.
Hi there, great video!! I was just wondering.. can I run an external mic and external battery from that adapter simultaneously? And if not, is there a set up that would allow me to do that for my GoPro 11 ? Thank you!!
Good video on the subject. I look forward to when/if you address the topic of GoPro10 with MediaMod not turning on or off. Where the solution is to pull out and put back the battery. It's not fun when you have to take everything apart to do it. Also the problem with Volta and MediaMod together. Hi Shawn, I have a gopro 10 and need a wireless mic. I have a metal case not a media mod. Could I use a DJI mic and directly conected it to the shoot, without a media mod. and can I do it without a mic adapter. Thank you sir.
The media mod detects that a microphone is in, but it doesn't receive any sound is the issue. You should show how to switch it so that the sound goes to the 3.5mm too
I bought the gopro 11, media mod, rode mic, and DJI dual mic from this video. I had to hunt down the rode because the link was dead. What do you recommend for lighting that would mount on the cold shoe?
The two I would recommend is Lume cube They are fairly expensive, but a fantastic light. And fairly small. Even the little gopro light. That go pro sells it’s not super bright, but enough for vloging.
I have the 11 with the media mod. However the steps you go through for setting up an external mic is not the same as I am seeing. I go to preferences/mods, I see Max Lens Mod and Media Mod. On Media Mod there is nothing selectable...it's shows "standard mic" but is grayed out. I can go in to the Video settings on the main screen and select which video setting (Activity). From there I can scroll down to the audio section...from there I can select Media Mod. From there you have 3 options, front, rear and camera mic. But in the preferences you show, there is nothing selectable so I can't get an external mic to work. Any suggestions?
@THE 2WHEEL CULTURE I thought I had replied to Austin's comment but apparently not. Anyway I ended up using a different cord to hook up my wireless mics. The mics I have came with two cords, you may need to use one with the two black rings on both ends.
@@THE2WEELCULTURE I was just looking on my wireless mic receiver cord and it is a TRS type plug. When I looked at my standard lavalier mic, it is a TRRS type plug. If I plug the lavalier mic in the mod, it will not switch to that mic, it stays on the mod mic choices...front, rear or the camera's built in mic. However when I plug in the TRS wireless mic receiver, it automatically switches to the wireless mic. So if just plug a standard TRRS mic in to the mic plug on the media mod, it will grey out but that mic will not be active. I have not tried it but if you want to plug a standard mic in to the media mod, you may want to try a TRRS to TRS adapter. I hope this has helped at least a little.

Yes the Ulanzi is bigger and yes you need the mic adapter but you can change the battery without removing the cage, you can charge without removing the cage, its so much better than the media mod.
Yes, you will need a microphone. The creators edition does not include an external mic. There are microphones built into the media mod. But ideally, you’re going to get better sound with a good third-party microphone.

The medium is the same for all three versions, 9, 10 and 11. It is the exact same model. Most likely if you’re searching just the labeling hasn’t been updated on it because the 11 did not exist yet. But one labeled for hero 9 or 10 will work perfectly with your 11.

Why do only certain audio cables work with the GOPRO HERO 6 Black ? I have the GoPro Microphone adapter and only a cable with two 'indents' will carry audio? The system is so baffling.
Not a GoPro brand microphone but you have to use the GoPro microphone adapter or the media mod. You cannot plug a microphone directly into it and third-party microphone adapters. Do not work.
I've been having some issues with my media mod not recording audio while charging. Any insight into that? I'm using the media mod, USB C charger connected to external battery, and a Sony wireless mic receiver plugged into the audio jack.
I tried hooking up a movo vxr10 to media mod. All I get is static. I tried hooking up another mic and the same thing until I signaled power to the mic. I reached out to GoPro an 2 months later with support and a new media mod, no solution. Any help?
It really depends on what you’re doing. Myself I like to record at 60 FPS when possible just so I can slow the footage down by half if needed. Primarily I filming a wide field of view. And I keep stabilization at the maximum.
I tried with two adaptor, also firmware updated, still external mic is not getting connection, Preferences- mod- only visible with media mod.. I want it also with adaptor.. but not getting success
And most easy way to record good sound from your setup is to record sound only with DJI transmitter-mic (they both have 8gb memory inside) and after in post production synchronize it very easy. And you don’t need to connect some cables and use these plastic boxes which takes so much time to connect and looks weird. Just don’t forget to press button on the mic and check red light indicator to be shure recording is going on! That’s how I use GoPro 11 and DJI Mic together. Super easy, fast and I even have 2 ways of sound - 1st from DJI Mic, 2nd from GoPro camera for spare 👌
The cost of the GoPro adapter is a lot, but that’s only the start of it. It’s the size that makes a difference too I don’t want a heavy cable to get a mic, nor a media mod. Even though I have both the adapter and media mod I still don’t have a perfect solution.
Hey Sean another random question regarding Lumafusion. When I export a video that let’s say is 4 minutes long, it’s exporting it as like a 20 min+ video… And so all I get is a video that plays my footage etc and then when it ends it just keeps rolling with a black screen for minutes. Reasoning behind that? Is there a setting i’m missing? Appreciate your time and help.
This has happened to me before and the reason it happened was because there was a army 1 frame clip that was way at the end of my timeline which I had to delete and it exported normally.
@@TUFFBASS It appears to be just my first video. New to Lumafusion so what should I look for regarding that army 1 frame clip? Thanks for your help btw
As mentioned by another poster, I would check the timeline zoom in and see if there’s any random clips or something that got placed near the end. The other thing you can do is just create a whole new project and copy the footage in and see if that fixes the problem
I’m not sure I have never tried that, I don’t see why it wouldn’t. Depending on how much air flow is in the helmet you still may have to use the wind muff on the transmitter
Double check to make sure you’re using the right type of cable. There are TRS, and TRRS cables. With road cables you don’t wanna use one that has a gray end. That is for smart phones, and will not work with a Gopro. Other than that, I’m not sure what else to suggest.
Is there any way that you can recommend what job we should get so that we can afford a $329 DJI Mic? ... Actually, any wireless mic will do. Even my $50 mic.
I Found that Sennheiser Makes a Waterproof Mic for the Hero 4 But It Does not Say if that Mic will work on The Hero 11 They Also Do Not Say if They Make other Waterproof Mics for Go Pro. Is there Any Other Companies You know of that Makes a Waterproof Mic For GoPro hero 11 ?
Question for anyone. I am 76 and new to video editing. (Scary) I started with Open Shot, but then moved to Davinci Resolve and it has more than I can keep up with, so far at least. Yesterday, I found a CD for Photo Shop Elements and Premier Elements, which I bought a year ago and forgot about. Is this Photo Shop easier to learn than Davinci Resolve. I would prefer to avoid the time it would take me to figure that out. 🙃 Thanks...
Being upper lazy here but it just occurred to me. Has anyone tried attaching the DJI Mic receiver direct to the USB c port on the mic adapter instead of using the 3.5 mm? Just wondered if that would work.
I don't get it. At 30 seconds in you say "you do need to use gopro products to make a microphone work". And at 40 seconds you say "Amazon products won't work, you have to use the gopro brand." Then at 2:07 you say, "This is the Rode video micro, it works really well because it's not overly big."
I’m referring to a Microphone adapter, not the microphone itself. In order to use a microphone with a GoPro you have to use the GoPro branded microphone adapter for the Gopro Media mod. No other microphone adapter from other brands will work. However, once you have that you can use any microphone you choose.
They have shoe extensions. I think there’s never a reason for a microphone to be in the shot no matter how big it is. But nobody talks about extensions 🤷♂️
GoPro’s are too unreliable with their microphone inputs, and if you want any half decent audio (and take the guess work out of which audio input/microphone the GoPro will randomly select) I’d steer clear of GoPro cameras. I had the GoPro 10 with media mod and the microphone would rarely work because the GoPro would select any external microphone (sometimes front, sometimes back) except the microphone input I selected. After much back and forth discussion with 2 different GoPro representatives regarding the problem and providing evidence (I used the recommended Røde lapel microphone and ensured it was the correct jack), I sent the GoPro camera back and was sent a replacement several weeks later, but because the GoPro was so unreliable in maintaining the correct audio input, I can no longer be bothered using it as I don’t care to waste my time or footage. This is coming from a long time user having had the GoPro 7, 8, 9 and 10 and I’ve personally found they’ve have become more and more unreliable at each new release (as they rush to release a new model instead of fixing the problems with their existing models), to the point where you don’t know what you’re going to get until after you’ve filmed (expect plenty wasted footage with crackling or inaudible audio). In contrast I have a Insta360 One X2 which I use for snowboarding and it works perfectly every time.
After researching all of these cameras with stabilizers I decided to forgo finding a stabilizer camera and just duct tape my $50 Moto g Pure to my forehead and save hundreds of dollars.
Great video and go pro? THEY ARE LAME. I can take any external microphone and using a trs 3.5 to usb-c connect and use those microphones on my DJI OSMO ACTION 3. Another reason, I am annoyed with Go Pro and try not to use it unless I have to vs. my much more friendly DJI OSMO ACTION 3.
Check to make sure it’s a TRS Lavalier, and not a TRRS. You can tell by looking at the end if it has three sections and it’s TRS if it has four and it’s TRRS. TRRS will not work.

@@AirPhotography Hello Sir, just bought a hero 11 black. I want to record my motorcycle riding and I have huge wind noise problem. Which is best microphone to cancel the wind. I think I need to put mic in my helmet but I don't know which one to buy ?
Im running into issues when connecting an external adapter to the go pro and it not showing up under "media mods". A quick google search shows others are having this issue. I have a Saramonic Blink 500. Currently updating Go Pro firmware to see if that works.
Update. Firmware V 2.12 Did not
I am researching a helmet mic. I don't know why you didn't extend more about it but thanks anyway. And it's need adapter?? 49.00? Pretty bad for who wants to lead the "small cameras" business.
Why do only certain audio cables work with the GOPRO HERO 6 Black ? I have the GoPro Microphone adapter and only a cable with two 'indents' will carry audio? The system is so baffling.
Wait did I hear correctly, you have to use go pro brand microphone with the hero 11?
Not a GoPro brand microphone but you have to use the GoPro microphone adapter or the media mod. You cannot plug a microphone directly into it and third-party microphone adapters. Do not work.
@@AirPhotography gotcha thank you for the clarification
I've been having some issues with my media mod not recording audio while charging. Any insight into that?
I'm using the media mod, USB C charger connected to external battery, and a Sony wireless mic receiver plugged into the audio jack.
I have not experienced that myself. I’m not sure what the problem would be perhaps a loose connection inside?
@@AirPhotography hmmm possibly. It seems like a rather rare issue as I haven't found any one else talk about it. Thanks for the feedback though!
I tried hooking up a movo vxr10 to media mod. All I get is static. I tried hooking up another mic and the same thing until I signaled power to the mic. I reached out to GoPro an 2 months later with support and a new media mod, no solution. Any help?
THANK YOU , I was plugging my adaptor into my mic .
It just dont work like that lol.
Sir I am a travel vloger so what is the best setting in gopro 11 please
It really depends on what you’re doing. Myself I like to record at 60 FPS when possible just so I can slow the footage down by half if needed. Primarily I filming a wide field of view. And I keep stabilization at the maximum.
@AirPhotography thanks sir for replying
My GoPro 11 is not getting connection with adaptor mod, it's only connected with media mod only.. please tell me any solution
Are you running the latest firmware? Other than that I’m not quite sure what to tell. You should just work.
I tried with two adaptor, also firmware updated, still external mic is not getting connection,
Preferences- mod- only visible with media mod..
I want it also with adaptor.. but not getting success
Shame on GoPro. That media mod is just a piece of plastic and they want $100
You are right
True money grabbers
And most easy way to record good sound from your setup is to record sound only with DJI transmitter-mic (they both have 8gb memory inside) and after in post production synchronize it very easy. And you don’t need to connect some cables and use these plastic boxes which takes so much time to connect and looks weird. Just don’t forget to press button on the mic and check red light indicator to be shure recording is going on!
That’s how I use GoPro 11 and DJI Mic together. Super easy, fast and I even have 2 ways of sound - 1st from DJI Mic, 2nd from GoPro camera for spare 👌
Cool!
Is it happening in all your videos or just one?
This has happened to me before and the reason it happened was because there was a army 1 frame clip that was way at the end of my timeline which I had to delete and it exported normally.
@@TUFFBASS It appears to be just my first video. New to Lumafusion so what should I look for regarding that army 1 frame clip? Thanks for your help btw
As mentioned by another poster, I would check the timeline zoom in and see if there’s any random clips or something that got placed near the end. The other thing you can do is just create a whole new project and copy the footage in and see if that fixes the problem
Even when I connect my adapter to my purple panda mic it doesn’t show anything when I go into MODS it says N/A….. any tips?
great video
HI, if I use volta while its connected to gopro and charging, can i still connect mic like mke 200 to the gopro and use it?
Yes, but you have to be using the median mode and then you can plug in the volta and Microphone
@@AirPhotography thnx.. appreciate your reply 🙏
Thank you
You're welcome
Thank You!
Do you think that wireless mic would work well in a motorcycle helmet?
Also I don't see the wireless microphone on the Gopro page. Would you aim me in the right direction?
I’m not sure I have never tried that, I don’t see why it wouldn’t. Depending on how much air flow is in the helmet you still may have to use the wind muff on the transmitter
Just go on Amazon and do a search for DJI Mic. It’s not a go pro product. It’s a great microphone system.
@@AirPhotography Thank You
I have the same exact set up and the rode mic DOES NOT WORK WHEN PLUGGED IN
Double check to make sure you’re using the right type of cable. There are TRS, and TRRS cables. With road cables you don’t wanna use one that has a gray end. That is for smart phones, and will not work with a Gopro. Other than that, I’m not sure what else to suggest.
isn't all of these methods essentially make the GoPro no longer waterproof? Will you still be comfortable using any of them in a raining situation?
Even my old Sony FDR X3000 built in microphone port, it’s from 2017 products
yeah i had that camera, a good one but audio from external mics are oversaturated and clipping constantly, tried a zillion mics and gave up.
Is there any way that you can recommend what job we should get so that we can afford a $329 DJI Mic? ... Actually, any wireless mic will do. Even my $50 mic.
I Found that Sennheiser Makes a Waterproof Mic for the Hero 4 But It Does not Say if that Mic will work on The Hero 11
They Also Do Not Say if They Make other Waterproof Mics for Go Pro.
🙃 Thanks...
Yeah definitely have less time left 🫡🤣🤣. Joking though please don't get mad at me grandpa
I think as you have purchased Adobe you should learn on it. Resolve doesn't have all features in the free version
Being upper lazy here but it just occurred to me. Has anyone tried attaching the DJI Mic receiver direct to the USB c port on the mic adapter instead of using the 3.5 mm? Just wondered if that would work.
Nice 😃
I don't get it. At 30 seconds in you say "you do need to use gopro products to make a microphone work". And at 40 seconds you say "Amazon products won't work, you have to use the gopro brand." Then at 2:07 you say, "This is the Rode video micro, it works really well because it's not overly big."
I’m referring to a Microphone adapter, not the microphone itself. In order to use a microphone with a GoPro you have to use the GoPro branded microphone adapter for the Gopro Media mod. No other microphone adapter from other brands will work. However, once you have that you can use any microphone you choose.
epic video
Hello Sean how are you
I am great, thank you for asking, how are you?
G'day
Great video and go pro? THEY ARE LAME.
I can take any external microphone and using a trs 3.5 to usb-c connect and use those microphones on my DJI OSMO ACTION 3.
Another reason, I am annoyed with Go Pro and try not to use it unless I have to vs. my much more friendly DJI OSMO ACTION 3.
2023 and the GOPRO Hero 11 integrated mic doesn't work with webcamming....it's just wrong.
This really does go to show how overpriced and under achieving the gopro really is.
Get to the POINT !
Super helpful, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
great video
Thanks!
When I connect my lavalier Mic, it wont record sound even though it is on Standard mic... :/ What could be the issue?
Check to make sure it’s a TRS Lavalier, and not a TRRS. You can tell by looking at the end if it has three sections and it’s TRS if it has four and it’s TRRS. TRRS will not work.
