On Friday I’ll officially earn the title of UH-60 Blackhawk maintainer (15T). It’s a pleasure to see the Blackhawk in DCS even if it is just a mod. We mostly use M models instead of L. The Mike models have 4 MFD’s in the cockpit instead of gauges but I’ve practiced maintenance on several Lima models. Is amazing how well the cockpit is modeled. Thanks for showing off this mod Cap.
Cool!
Congratulations.
Glad to hear it Grim Reaper
I like your profile, nugget
I've got twelve years as a 15T. 12 as a technician and 12 as a crew chief. Idk if you're guard or active, but strive to get your a&p. And don't be afraid of big jobs. I specialize now in major repairs compared to being new doing inspections.
When we did this (air to air refueling), helicopters, KC130 flaps 50%, 105 knots. About 5 knots above stall/given weight. Tell the mod makers to model flaps out on the tanker for more realism at slow speeds. Great video. I too am not a helo pilot. A tanker pilot.
thx
Cap’s lucky to get the tanker actually tanking, but I will take a look at it ;)
Dcs is getting better by the day.
Massive kudos to the developers… unreal the amount of details. Ty for showing it in your channel
Pleasure
Another great vid guys. I’m a UH60 guy and It’s amazing how accurate everything is. Awesome job by the developers.
Ever since the days of CFS3, I have been blown away by the dedication and professionalism of the MOD community. It really shows how much can be achieved by people who are motivated by things other than profit! They made that game 10 times better than what it was originally and the same can be said for IL-2 1946 and no doubt countless other titles in all kinds of genres. As a financially poor person (relatively speaking) I am so grateful for their efforts and the hundreds of hours of top quality sim experiences I have been able to enjoy thanks to their work. It is good to see them getting some attention and praise on your channel.
What a great time it is to be alive (for DCS players)! Thank you for this wonderful gift and all the work you're putting into it, DCS modding community
Awesome. The internal modelling in particular really wowed me. Well done Modders and thanks GR for bringing my attention to these Mods. Really hope they keep your door movement noises 9:16 too 😁 Very well done all.
This exciting that my Blackhawk has finally come out. I have over 500hours as crew chief and inspector on them. Looks like they have done a great job on their first release.
My dad was a pilot for one! Last one he flew was the Mike Variant! So this is a treat!
Sir Lancelot, the only Knight of the Blackhawk with a large lance, a very large lance! Know imagine this with a 30mm cannon, or some Hellfire and rockets 😃 Amazing work from the devs 😎
Man...this looks FANTASTIC!! This mod...a couple machine/gatling guns in the gunner spots...a couple buddies gunning...THAT sounds like a PARTY!!
This brings back memories. It isn't the exact heli I worked on, I was on the SH-60B, but it's close enough for the nostalgia to hit hard.
cool
You guys are hilarious! Hey tips for HAR (not AAR): Always stare at the wing of the tanker. Glance down at the drogue but don't let your eyes set on it. BTW, the drogue for HAR is about twice the size of the one in DCS. Its a low speed drogue. Also, when you cross over in a helo, you go over the tanker and not under it like a fixed wing. Great stuff guys.
"Oh, I almost had it in... IT'S SO HARD!!"

Great! I hope to see this used a LOT :) Thanks GR
Nice video and HELL OF A MOD!
superb video, thank you guys!!!
Wow this is amazing I can’t wait to fly it
Extendable rod, you can get in the back.... this has to be Cap's new favorite toy 😅

Looks amazing, great work devs of this mod...another to download 👍...by the way, I'm struggling to remember ever wishing another man get their probe in as much as whilst watching cap tickle the hole with his probe. Another first thanks to Cap and GR...that sounded better in my head...🤭
Amazing that this is a free mod! Kind of makes me feel a bit like the A-4, bit of a shame it's not an official module!
They got the sound right
Papaaa papaaaa, thank you, nice tutorial.
WOW!!!!!! Awesome. Thank you
This is a great, long awaited mod. As it is at first release is really good and I eagerly be following the development and improvements. One thing that is missing in DCS helicopters is a rescue winch, so you can hover over a downed pilot, lower a line with a hook and lift the victim without landing.... I don't know how difficult that would be to simulate...? But good luck to the people who put this together and well done.
You can simulate it in the mission editor with a trigger zone and using conditions. You can even add weight to the aircraft to simulate the line being loaded like slingloading. You have to add slight collective every iteration to maintain the same height (if taking on multiple passengers). You can set the conditions to do the opposite to simulate fast roping or lowering someone on the winch too.
Great Vid Guys..... nice job.
Bah bahhhh bah bahhhh!! Haha, thanks for the great video mate!
It's very funny seeing cap trying to air refuel the hawk😹. It is one of the most difficult tings unlike a fighter jet.
someone in my discord just posted about this, go to youtube to check it out and this video is literally the first recommended video. These algorithms are way too good.
oooh gun pods on the winglets pleeeeeaaassse! :D This looks so amazing!
@10:58 I was at Ft. Rucker continuing my PME (Professional Military Education) when I got an opportunity to play around in the actual UH-60 simulators that are used for actual training by Blackhawk Pilots. I was escorted by one (some CW4 friend I met while at class). He gave me a quick run down on what I needed to do to fly these birds. It was tough as hell to keep it stable and fly. I crashed a few times. I asked him how a modern helicopter could be so difficult to fly. That's when he told me he purposely didn't show me SAS controls. Using those would stabilize the bird really well where it would be a lot easier to fly. That dude was a jerk LOL.
This looks fucking awesome, can't wait to try it out in game
looks awesome we should all donate !
Been watching for about a year if I ever get a better computer to play dcs ill definitely have to get this
WOW....great explanation Cap
thx
Cap, almost forgot. The helo drogue is almost twice the size of the high speed drogue. 105 knots to 120 knots max. That and some flaps will make the mod so much more realistic. Have to say, this is easier to fly than I thought. Thank goodness. Cheers.
The sound of this mod got my attention right off. I have over 1000 hours in HH-60gs and the sound is very acurate..
1500 hrs and I agree. First thing I noticed.
Wow cool!
Same here. Just as I remember.
Ok, so I really can't wait until this is polished off. They got almost all the controls spot on. I was a Blackhawk CE in the Army. The one major control issue I saw was the pedal didn't automatically adjust for collective input. The UH-60 has a mechanical mixer that will input tail rotor control to keep the aircraft stable during landing and takeoff. Sikorsky was a literal genius when it came to helicopter mechanics. There are so many things that bring back both good and angry moments in my career with these birds. I really can't wait to see if they put in autorotation procedures.
Ok. So this is actually in the sim. I noticed just the opposite where I didn't have to put any pedal input on takeoff and it confused the hell out of me so I took to the comments to see if this was a thing. Maybe check if SAS is on?
Can confirm autorotation is a thing in this bird. Haven't tried it but I hear it's very difficult as it should be for a bird of it's size.
@@guidaguida2 this makes me feel really good. Kinda bad at the same time. I might have missed SAS
@@guidaguida2 but the mixer is built in to the flight controls system. So SAS doesn’t have anything to do with it. It’s a mechanical mixer.
Fun video Cap! -ApocalypseRider
its a really good mod so far.
Idk if was already working 2 years ago, but now, on the version 1.4 of the UH-60L mod, you need to change the "Air source heat/start engine" to "APU" before start the engines and after you've let the blades spin enough on idle you can change the source to engine and turn off the APU, really cool video, thanks.
These free mods are ridiculously good
The UH-60 is my favorite helicopter.
Everything I design. If it needs an escape reason or protocols for helping the injured or bringing supplies. The UH-60 is always my go to helicopter.
I'm fairly new to watching the videos and didn't know DCS was even a thing until recently. Love the content and as someone who lives a few miles from the Sikorsky plant in Connecticut, I definitely love this mod. Any idea if the Mike model and related variants (like the USAF Whiskey) are in the works?
Way back in 2008, I got a flight in a Blackhawk. I was (am still am) in the Civil Air Patrol and was attending my basic cadet encampment back when I was 12. One day, we got up, went through the normal PT, breakfest, ect., and boarded a bus to Warfield Air National Guard Base (AKA Martin State Airport) and we flew around Baltimore for an hour. Nothing like a kid leaning half way out the door 1,500ft above Baltimore's Inner Harbor.
We also got flights in a C-130J and did a simulated airdrop during it.
Try sitting in the gunners window at 120 knots at 20 feet. Now that is a rush.
Would love to see you do the AH-64 next.
SO Exciting - I qualified as an SH-60B crewman (ASW SENSO/SAR Swimmer) in the Navy back in 1986... was also qualified to ground taxi the bird. Spent several hundred hours in the IP seat of the simulator - teaching my young pilots some of the tactical issues - when the real IP was lazy or busy... as a result: bagged a lot of simulator time FLYING missions. I got 150 hours in the real aircraft up front, and 2579 hours of flight time as SENSO before moving to the Viking. The Start-up was excellent - except for the missing ASW equipment, and the rotor-brake.
Now I dream of a SH-60B mod for those at-sea scenarios - send a pair of Seahawks out to snoop with the ESM, confirm with Radar,, and take out minor targets with the Hellfires.
At 21:50 I can imagine what Capt has in mind with that refueling boom.😃😃
As this mod is still getting updates, including crew setups, equipment, ect.... I wonder if the developers of this mod will consider making a coast guard search and rescue scenario in the middle of a really bad storm or hurricane? That would be one hell of a way to really see what this chopper can do.
Set fuel controls to cross feed, full fwd vs direct individual tank to engine.
thx
I tried doing the multicrew with my son's PC, doing everything you did but cold start. Had set both PCs to battery, GENs, and APU on, on both PCs. Then I did the networking bit. Although it showed connected on his PC, the switches I moved didn't show on his side. Any ideas?
This is amazing. If only the ah-6 mod can be completed like this...
agree
Its amazing in VR even though Hugey a must have a look at this
with my big willy out 💀😂 i love your tutorials cap!
That was a Super Cap sexy landing
Pushing 600 hours on H-60s, about half of that in Lima models. I look forward to picking this apart.
APU generator would not be on before starting the APU. Upon applying AC power from the APU, the stabalator would slew down between 34-42 degrees.
Tail switch would only need to be pressed locked if the guy who flew before you was a dipshit and he forgot to lock it. It absolutely would be locked.
Manual slew of the stabalator is prohibited except for maintenance flights, emergencies, and training with an instructor.
FPS is not optional lol.
First flight of the day you'd put the fuel system selectors to XFD (crossfeed) not DIR (direct).
Before hitting the starter button you'd better make sure the AIR SOURCE switch is to APU. Once you hit start you hold the button and wait for a rise in NG. About then you should see the blades start to slowly. Then when moving to idle you need to see a rise in oil pressure, TGT, and NP in 45 seconds, start drop between 52-65% NG, and TGT to not exceed 851 before hitting 63% NG.
All avionics would be set up before starting the engine. Not after.
Holy shit you did all that without the parking brake on? That's like, the 3rd thing in the checklist. You absolutely want the tail wheel locked and the parking brake set before starting engines. My own personal "dummy check" goes: 'tail wheel locked, parking brake set, spark (key in the ignition), fuel (system selectors to XFD/DCT as required), air (air source switch to APU or ENG as required).
Flight model looks wonky. You definitely need to add a bit of power to ground taxi.
If you want to do this per the checklist, hit me up my man. I gotchu.
Oh also, no regular-Army (non-SOAR) aircraft have the refueling probe.
Also HUD doesn't so much work during the day. I mean, I guess it does technically but wearing the goggles during the day would be...dangerous.
@@austinrothjr there is such a thing as day HUD. I've never used it, most units just throw them in a locker somewhere and dont touch it.
Thanks Sir!

Imagine if they do the pave low version! Super secret insertion!
Hey can someone help me out with this install? The UH60L module appears in the bottom of the DCS main screen but whenever I load into a mission theres no cockpit and I just sink into the earth. The downloaded folder is also in the Mods folder...not sure whats going wrong here.
Awesome clip mate, any chance you could do post on installing the ARMED VERSION? I cant seem to get it via the instructions
Thanks in advance
Why don’t they also make a mod for Z-20 along with this? I’m sure it won’t take much alteration.

So somehow I already have a mod folder within my DCS folder. I don’t have any mods downloaded for DCS. All of the planes that I have (purchased) are in the mods folder. I tried creating a second mods folder and installing this mod into it, however, it did not work. How can I get this mod otherwise? Do I need to delete all of the aircraft already in the mod folder? I’m not familiar with how all of this works and I do not want to corrupt my DCS game file.
The UH-60 Blackhawk is a beautiful helicopter, I want it to remain operational for many more decades, and never need to be replaced from the useless defiant x.
Why I always tilt to the right when I try to take off ?
I’ve been wondering and if anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it, can you move troops with a helicopter in dcs? Please if you see this let me know. Thanks
The external fuel tanks appear to me without the textures. What can be the cause?
“Imagine what I could lance?” Do I sense the beginnings of a new format for birds and bees?
lols
The file I instaled was in mod folder already I put into game but game said unauthorized
I keep falling through the ground on Cold and Dark. Anyone have a fix for this? Thank you!
Hopefully, we will be able to mount .50 cal, 249B, and mini guns.
so ... how long until we can watch "black hawk down" as a DCS cinematic? Maybe with some operation flashpoint, or arma 3 thrown in for the non-flying parts? XD
I found that starting hot vs cold helps with the radios. AN ARC 164. I was not getting comms when doing the cold start. Even manually setting freqs. If I missed something on cold start I don’t know what it was. Yes, I set all the correct settings.
thx agree
ED should make this highly detailed mods available on their website. IMHO these type of mods are on par with the FC3 planes. Just offer them free of charge and include them in the Open Beta as an EA release. Nobody would get angry (not even RC :P )
Helicopters can loop, you need to put in reverse collective at the top of the loop so the blades go into negative pitch, so its like your pushing the helicopter away from the ground, its how Radio Control pilots fly model ones.
Not sure if joking, helicopter blades don't go into negative pitch when you drop collective...
how do you hover so well? I tried hovering and lets say it didnt end well
you un checked the "SPECIAL- VR MODE" ....in the new version..that is not included BUT, there is now " UNSPRUNG Cyclic Mode" so we want Need that Enabled ?..as no clue what it is/ does....thnx
CAP, Stabilator slew up is used for emergency only if the auto mode fails. It is a paddle on the cyclic similar to the fixed wing aircraft in game.
thxx
Does this mod require an additional payware module? I know the majority (if not all) of mods require Flaming Cliffs 3.
I'm looking to get into helo's in DCS but I'm not yet sure if I want to spend a lung and a kidney for something I'm not sure of if I'd enjoy it. If the UH-60 doesn't require another payware helo module I'll definitely check this one out.
How much will the top speed increase if you run the windshield wipers? I think it was at least 10 knots with the Hind?
+20 knots
where to download? google for about an hour just found skin of uh60a, no github link?
Late to the party, but this really looks good.
So, can it only be used in the Open Beta version of DCS?
Love to see a vid of a mission where f35s are providing a CAP on a Blackhawk mission where they rescue a down pilot.
With the blackhawk mod, would be interesting to see a reenactment of blackhawk down and then a "could ________ have stopped the mogadishu failure."
Recording tomorrow :)
Cap, do you have to have the UH-1 module pre-installed in DCS in order for the UH-60 module to work correctly?
Don't need anything as far as I know.
Thank you.
It's unplayable for me, must need another helo other than Ka50 or UH1
As far as I know the only conventional helicopter that could do a loop was the Original Westland Lynx, was also the fastest for a long time
The Turks looped a UH60 for an air show.
Cap is lunging at me with his probe extended. I don't know if I'm excited or frightened....or both! "IT'S SO HARD! IT'S SO HARD!"
lol
Does it have a dependency on a different aircraft or is it standalone
9:55 I’m imagining the design meeting where they suddenly realised they hadn’t added an Outside Air Temperature gauge, but had nowhere in the cockpit left to put it…
PLEASE start from the beginning how to get to that page on discord.
I might be rusty with my frequencies but AM freqs don't reach the UHF range. Parts of FM do but never with AM.
This mod is huge! UwU🥵 :3
where can I download the UH-60L for DCS? and for which version of DCS is this? would love to play it
Link in vid description
are there any update videos?
So this is a mod..? More like a full-fed module, good work to the developers.
Does radar altitude come on automatically?
I never get it with the cold start, I'm missing some detail.
I thought it was Auto on.
Love your videos. Any chance you could model the Air war and anti ship war of the Falklands conflict assuming the old HMS Ark Royal was there with her Gannets, Phantoms and Buccaneers vs what actually happens? Big thanks.
They have done some Falklands videos that should turn up in a search. Limitations were things like not having the right geography although that's going to change at some point when the official Falklands map is released. Many of the aircraft aren't available either so various substitutions had to be made, some being closer to the real historical aircraft than others.
@@trolleriffic thanks for that explanation, appreciate it.
Should be plenty in here, and more coming: ruclips.net/p/PL3kOAM2N1YJc9GA2Le4JCZF2ZSTL8RabZ
Hey Cap. The Operations Room just released a video about a kamikaze attack on a U.S. Destroyer. And it features VF-10 aka The Grim Reapers :). There's a potential re-enactment there.

Awesome thanks!
I watched it this morning and it's a really good video. The USS Laffey DD724 is the ship concerned. Alan M Sumner class. She survived multiple kamikaze attacks and hits off Okinawa. She's now a museum ship in Charleston, South Carolina. She was called "The Ship That Wouldn't Die."
hmmmm watching Cap try to loop it occurred to me that a Lynx would be awesome as a flyable mod in DCS.......
